Hannibal (2001)
i really liked it!
When i found out that Hannibal Rising was being released, i decided to go back and watch the previous Lector films before it. All the other Lector films have the character in the background but with Hannibal the character finally gets his chance to shine.
Anthony Hopkins returns as Hannibal Lector, a part he made famous in the previous film Silence Of The Lambs. After escaping he is living under a different name in Italy but when his name is put onto the F.B.I 10 most wanted list, Clarice Starling is put on the case to track him down.
the acting in this film is brilliant all round. the cinematography is also good and the film is a very good insight of the way Lector likes to live his life.
I'm looking forward to the return of Hannibal lector on Friday
A Night in Casablanca (1946)
one of the best Marx brothers films made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i really enjoyed watching A Night In Casablanca. after a 5 year absence Groucho, Chico and Harpo return for more zany antics. Groucho plays Ronald Kornblow, the new manager of the hotel Casablanca. Harpo is Rusty, the main villains servant and Chico is well just Chico.
the film has many highlights such as the dance floor scene where the dance floor gets smaller and smaller, Groucho trying to have a romantic dinner but always being interrupted by Chico and the end flight on the plane which was very enjoyable to watch.
all in all it is better than the three Marx brothers film made at MGM before it (the big store,go west and at the circus) a must buy for all Marx brothers fans.
Swiss Miss (1938)
mouse traps!
being a fan of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy for as long as i can remember. i have seen all of their films from Lucky Dog up to the dire Atoll K and this is in my top five favourite Laurel and Hardy films of all time.
Stan and Ollie play mouse trap salesman who get riped off by a cheese salesman and must pay off their debt by working at a local hotel. there are many funny moments in this film including the fire scene (once you see this film you will know what i mean) but there are a lot of boring songs that spoil the comedy of Stan and Ollie but apart from that a classic piece of vintage comedy.
watch this and enjoy!
Doctor Who: The Parting of the Ways (2005)
"I just want to say that you were fantastic"
well this is an a excellent conclusion to the first of the new series of Doctor Who. Christopher Eccelston passes the Dr Who torch to the ever popular David Tennant in this war against the daleks.
the C.G.I is fantastic in this story (such as the attack on the tardis and the daleks leaving their ship to invade earth. Billie Piper is excellent as Rose Tyler and John Barrowman is brilliant as Captin Jack Harkness.
i could not have asked for a better end to such an excellent series and series two seems to be an even better series than this one and what i have seen of Doomsday and Army Of Ghosts it seems that the ending to series two will rival this episode.
The Legend of Zorro (2005)
The Legend of Zorro-DO NOT COMPARE TO MASK OF ZORRO!!
The Mask of Zorro is one of my most favourite films ever so when i knew that a sequel was being released i was looking forward to seeing the finished product. I finally got to see the film two weeks after it was released in the cinema so i sat down, ate my mates popcorn and enjoyed the film for what it is.
The first thing i did was turn off all known reality because being a Zorro film its not going to be very realistic and also forgot about the first film and enjoyed it.The action sequences come thick and fast and the acting is good from the two main leads.Zorro's son is just under the very annoying point but he is a very significant character in the film. Overall the film is a worthy sequel to The Mask of Zorro and i got a funny feeling that there will be The Son of Zorro coming to cinema screens very soon (hint:check deleted scenes on the DVD).
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
A good John Woo movie but not the best
The second film in a soon to be trilogy, Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt to save the world from a deadly virus. The narrative is the same in any action film (good guy triumphs over bad guy). The acting is quite good, the normal Tom Cruise superhero, a good turn by Thandie Newton as Nyah Hall and EXCELLENT acting from Dougray Scott as Sean Ambose the main villain of the film due to his mean attitude to everyone. The action is excellently derogated the Hong Kong MASTER of action John Woo. There is a shootout, short car chase, a motorbike chase and also lots of hand to hand fights, plus a Fantastic score by Hans Zimmer .This film is worth watching but if you are a fan of John Woo and you want to see a excellent film of his go towards his original Hong Kong films (The Killer is the best one). Better hurry up before the third comes out.
Doctor Who (2005)
the return of the tardis
The return of Doctor Who in 2005 was an excellent success. being off our t.v screens for nearly 16 years (apart from the 1996 TV movie). Christopher Eccelston being cast as the Doctor was a excellent idea from the BBC. the Doctor has a big background story and is referenced to in most of the episodes.
the Dalek episode was a major highlight in the series with excellent acting and a good script. the effects are excellent in the series ( a highlight being a spaceship crash in episode 4) and the regeneration into David Tennant in the last episode was a good surprise. The show has a future in David Tennant as shown in the Christmas special.
looking forward to series 2 in march 2006
