The Power of the Dog (2021)
Odd
This is another classic example of cinema's embodiment of the emperor's new clothes. There's a story line there somewhere I'm sure. The movie drags on and on with no clear meaning. Every character seems to be ever so slightly depressed. I forced myself to watch it until the end telling myself, "it won an Oscar so it must be good", I wish I hadn't.
The Unforgivable (2021)
A Masterpiece
It's hard not review this movie without giving away some of the plot. This isn't usually my kind of movie, but holy cr*p this has made a mark on me. So we'll written, Sandra Bullock does such an amazing job. Emotional, thought provoking, just superb. If this movie does not get any awards then this isn't a fair world.
Film critics who don't like this movie, you don't know what you're talking about.
Gemini Man (2019)
Don't take notice of the bad reviews
This was one of the few occasions I didn't read the IMDb reviews before I decided to watch a film, and I'm glad I didn't. I was entertained from start to finish. There was a good mix of action and drama, I liked the characters and thought the acting was satisfactory.
An interesting idea that was well executed.
The Lighthouse (2019)
Anticlimax
The Lighthouse is film's embodiment of the emperor's new clothes. The acting was good I suppose but the film is rather pointless. If you fancy watching a couple of nut jobs go on a bender and urinate and crap in pots then this film is definitely for you.
Tenet (2020)
I wanted to like it.
This is my kind of movie, which is weird because after watching it I wished I hadn't.
Absurd backwardness that is difficult to follow due to muffled voices and other sound related issues.
A waste of time.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Oh dear
A prime example of the following statement:
"A cinematic embodiment of the emperor's New clothes".
Winter's Bone (2010)
Overrated.
This is one of those films that has lots of really good reviews, so I watch it thinking it's going to be brilliant, but come the end I can't help thinking I've wasted an entire evening.
It's not rubbish, but it's not entertaining.
MOOP (2019)
Probably not worth watching
I believe this film to be cinema's embodiment of the emperor's New clothes.
Donnie Darko (2001)
It's a Marmite
You'll either love this or you'll hate it. If you like a film with a clear and definitive ending then this is not for you. I've lost count of how many times I've watched this film. Each time I watch it I get drawn in. The characters, the dialogue, the sound track, the atmosphere is all thought provoking. After each time I've watched this film I've thought that I have understood what I have just seen, but then after an hour or so of contemplation I start to unpick my ideas which I believe is exactly what the makers of Donnie Darko set out to achieve.
Only watch this if you have an open mind.
Time Trap (2017)
Bloody brilliant
If you like time travel and sci-fi you love this. This will be one movie i won't forget. The ending is superb.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Thought Provoking
I can only assume that those who have given this movie a bad review, either did not understand it or are not imaginative or open minded enough appreciate it. If you are up for a thought provoking sci-fi thriller with touch of time travel thrown in then this film should please you some what.
IO (2019)
I was drawn in
I really do not understand all the bad reviews. I was drawn in. I found the idea of the planet slowly becoming toxic quite original and unlike many other movies set in a post apocalyptic world. I felt Sarah Margaret Qualley played the main character well. I also liked that Sam Walden never gave up hope.
