Only Murders in the Building (2021)
What a ride this has been.......
I started watching OMITB on a whim because I had nothing else to watch, but I wasn't expecting it to have such a grip over me in short time that I started to eagerly wait for it's new episode every week.
It starts off pretty slow and some might even find it cliche and boring in the beginning, but once I embraced how zany and colorful these characters are and what they could bring to the table in terms of storytelling from different points of views, I got hooked.
Even the finale did two things right that shows these days struggle with, it gave a satisfactory ending to a well-built story and successfully teased a new one for those interested without feeling forced or awkward.
But in the end this is my opinion, it's up to you if you want to give this a try.
Luca (2021)
A pretty surprising addition to the Pixar roster!
Although luca is not something that one would expect from pixar, that doesn't mean it wasn't good. This was a very different approach to how pixar usually does things. Most of the times these movies make you question your reality, mortality, and the nature of life itself. Luca does non of that and still comes out one of the best animated movies of the year.
There are a few flaws ofcourse there are ALWAYS going to BE flaws, but what the people at pixar has done is that they took the basics of a good and enjoyable kids movie and made into a finely crafted piece of entertainment. Luca didn't try to make you cry, or to make you question the system of reality, but instead what it did is that it simply entertained it's viewers. And as always with animation that makes real life look dull. Thanks for reading and do give it a chance.
Superman & Lois: Pilot (2021)
Good enough for a pilot!
These days our expectations by the CW series of shows has been lowered to a level that seeing basic competence feel like seeing the face of god.
I can't really judge series by one episode, but if they keep this up consistently we might get a good enough series to watch every week. I've divided my further review into categories:
1:effects/CGI- good enough that our brain doesn't tell us that something is wrong but certainly not at the level of say wandavision. Which is not a fair comparison (I know).
2:story and writing- doesn't bite off more than it can handle. Which is a good sign that the writers might know what to so with such a show. But I can't help but see some predictability to the plot (except for the Luther in a super Armour part) and I'm not saying that it needs to be this overly complex story structure. The problem is that; can the writers write acceptable teen drama? Because as we all know at CW teen drama can get a little out of hand and ruin the show for audience other than die hard fans.
But seeing as this is essentially a superman show I'll have some hope!
Ozark (2017)
Crime thriller at it's best!
This show gives no time to catch you breath.
By this point I've seen a lot of crime thrillers so I thought this could be a fun little run, you know, sit back watch and predict the plot. But that's the thing though there is no predicting the shenanigans this family does. I mean episode after episode they just shocked with every decision and the flawless acting just puts you in that state of mind as if your the one being hunted by Cartels.
Each character has such depth and nuance that their troubles just feel real and you can really feel the tension, fear and sense of danger. What the show's writers have done is nothing short of amazing and one must definitely watch it for experience to remember.
Ted Lasso (2020)
A Breath of Fresh Air!
Ted Lasso is one of those shows that make you feel good even if you're life is in mayhem.
When I watched the trailer I was not expecting it to make me laugh as much as it did. To be honest I started watching this with average expectations considering this year and the for the past few years actually, a lot of shows that said they were "comedy" weren't. But you can watch this show with the family and I guarantee a lot of fun.
I've also seen a few negative reviews, which I didn't understand. It's just a light hearted comedy, relax and enjoy.
The Two Popes (2019)
It will surprise you.
Honestly a pretty good movie, the execution was good, the cinematography although not something new was well executed and a good choice for such a story.
Going into this movie I had no clue about the religious aspect or the technicalities of selecting a new Pope (although I did know the smoke signal from the chimney...something from school) and the movie did a very good job of keeping a non Christian entertained and at the same time not feel like just another educational documentary. I was told that the movie is just talk and the acting is slow... But after watching it I was reconsidering the people I take advise from. Anthony Hopkins; always a pleasure to watch him mold himself into a character so well that you just can't help but wonder how is he so good. And ofcourse Jonathan Pryce... Where do I even begin. Beautiful acting. Just beautiful. For the entirity of the movie they had my attention, which is pretty difficult(considering I get hungry lot while watching movies).
Over all I'm just happy that I decided to watch this movie. Certainly a highlight of this year for me(I know the movie came out last year and I'm too late with this review but honestly I have other stuff to do too).
Boku no hîrô akademia: His Start (2020)
Felt it to my core!!
This episode makes for an epic finale as well as a beginning for the characters. When the episode ended I had goosbumps all over and there. I was sitting speechless, AGAIN!! How do they do this man, Horikoshi is one of the best writers to live in this century no doubt. And when One for All was passed to Deku officially and his body accepted it the moment hit home.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Rivalled Into The Spider-Verse...
This was the kind of movie which you go in to watch with a lot of expectations, and Far From Home delivers just that and more.
I used to think Tom Holland as a good choice for spider man but I felt a little something missing when I saw him in Homecoming(not that the movie wasn't still good)....But this time he truly made Spider Man his own much like what RDJ did with Iron Man. Everything was right, the emotions connected to the character, the teenage drama and struggle of Being the next Iron Man. Not to state the obvious but the effects were Endgame level.
This movie was not just another movie it was a proper send off to a great era. And the beginning of another. I literally screamed "Yaay" when I saw JJ Simons cursing Spider Man again, it just made Tom Holland's Spider Man now complete and perfect.
The Talos part in the end was just gold.
Aquaman (2018)
DCEU Is finally on the right track...
So first of all , this was a great movie.... Comic accurate, fun to watch and thank God properly directed.
As great it was it did have a few hiccups I won't say that the story was bad it was fun and exciting... But somethings felt rushed and forced (I won't name them but you'll get it). But it is definitely a must watch everything good about Aquaman was shown incredibly.
Overall amazing movie... Not perfect but definitely a step in the right direction.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Wow.... I don't even know how to react!!
Okay, I can only say I'm speechless.... I loved it and would definitely buy the Bluray.
Best marvel movie so far.. Beats every spider -man movie easily.
Arrow: Elseworlds, Part 2 (2018)
A bit of a let down!!
I actually loved the last crossover episode, and gave it 10/10. So naturally I started this episode with great expectations..... But ended up being disappointed.
For me the beginning was awesome and kinda funny. The references were overkill.... Like seriously lay down a bit I know we're in Gotham. Asylum scene was not as good as I thought it would be and Ruby Rose's Batwoman was a bit dull and out of character. The costume was great but the acting.... not so much. And does the secret language of Nora has to be connected to everything.... I mean why was it in the book of destiny that was just down right stupid and made no sense... Like at all.
But episode was saved by Oliver And Barry's dynamics. And that easter egg about John being Green Lantern on earth-90 was great.
Overall this episode was not the good as I expected but still pretty good.
Venom (2018)
Wait... This is a marvel movie?!
You can give it a try but it's not worth it.. At all.
So... I just finished watching this and... I won't say it's the worst I've ever seen but it's up there. Even Tom Hardy can't make this look good.
There's a lot of things wrong with this movie so here's a short list..
1.CGI is like on a cheap editing app
2. the background music in half of the fight sequences did not match
3. Dialogues were written by a ten year old.
4. Way.. Too many cliché scenes.
In short, I wasted 1 anda half hours of my life.
The Flash: Nora (2018)
WOW!!! Season 1 level premier....
This is the first descent Premier since the very first episode.
Every scene, I was on edge of my seat... All Characters finally have an easy going and good relationship....Jessica Parker Kennedy has done an amazing job at portraying Nora....Grant is as always just killing it with his effortless charm.
The new suit is just LIT 🔥🔥. I really enjoyed the part where Ralph starts to realize about time travel, the multiverse ("some sort of a manyverse if you may").
All in all this premier has me wanting more and I can't wait for the next episode.
Titans (2018)
Amazing!! Rises beyond expectations🔥🔥
Being a Hardcore DC fan I was a little skeptical after watching the trailer... But after watching the first 2 episodes I'm completely hooked. Everything and everyone is amazingly played the respective actors and actresses. Though I do think starfire could do better. I mean in the comics she has problem in speaking English let alone speak Russian.... Although I am curios how they will explain her knowing Russian.
I read a few other reviews (bad ones mostly) and I constantly found one issue in every one of them people keep saying that their not "teens" or "accurate"... First of all the show is called TITANS NOT "TEEN TITANS" so stop whining about how it ruined your favorite characters OK these are mature and realistic (so to speak) characters. You can read the Titans Comic (it has nothing to do with the show) which will give a pretty good perspective on how grown up these characters have gotten in the world of comics....'bout time someone showed it on tv.
Thank you for reading I suggest you at least watch the first episode yourself... This show is not one to miss.
Titans: Hawk and Dove (2018)
Continues to defy expectations!!!
Another amazing episode..... my regards to the creators. I don't understand the hate this show is getting. I mean grow up.... Not everything is going to be sweet and simple forever. These are not your regular crime fighting Titans. The way they have shown what toll it has taken on The Boy Wonder to fight beside Batman is just AMAZING.
The chemistry between Hawk and Dove is shown beautifully. And I have to admit I was not expecting the love triangle with Grayson and Dawn. All things considered I think Titans have a lot of potential.
