Emergence (2019)
All the best of Sci-Fi
I agree completely with all the positive reviews here-they are on point. I think I have a leg up with reviewing this past only the first few episodes but it just keeps getting better. I think anyone comparing this only to Stranger Things is a bit new to sci-fi; this show has all the elements with some reminders of x-files, millenium, escape to witch mountain and many others but still completely original. It does keep you guessing. I just love the cast-someone before mentioned the brown bear; a delightful surprise to me and just a great actor. I truly love that the sheriff is a woman who is not perfect in appearance and her personality is very normal. She is totally believable in the role and, imo, a really good actress. I thought the connection between her and the girl was most definitely there right from the first moment of meeting. If you are a sci-fi, thriller buff, this is a can't miss.
The Healing Powers of Dude (2020)
Perfect family show
Our family just loves this show! Both my adult kids can relate so much with this show in having had social anxiety throughout school and having to control it even now. Dude is the perfect help to bring an awareness to other kids and adults about social anxiety in the schools. Plus, we have a long haired chihuahua who is the kids' 'little brother' and friend with the exact same expressions and 'male' attitude as dude. It keeps my kids in the same room WITHOUT their cellphones in their face while we are watching this show. Just a great show all around for everyone.
Ai shang ge men (2015)
Hated when it ended
I agree with the other positive reviews here. Loved each and every character and the actors whom played them. Missing everything I dislike in most Taiwanese shows; there are no idiotic misunderstandings, no illogical overly dramatic reactions to pretty minor problems between characters and the lead female actress really did an excellent job in portraying this character without the extra overly emotional outbursts. Still had the sweet and cute moments with a gentle progression to this friendship turned love. Very rarely, I can find a show like this that I would end it and watch it again in a heartbeat.
I've always loved the interaction in Asian cultures between all genders as vs the more pronounced separation in this country when it comes to physical interaction. This is very progressive in any country for lgbt and the stygmas existing as a basic perception but this movie actually made it completely unimportant in only a way this culture can do.
My son is part of the lgbt group and has very strict comments when watching gender role movies but when he came in to see what I was watching, he had only positive things to say. I would add that this movie is not so much about the emphasis on lgbt and more simply about love.
Dramaworld (2016)
Loved it-can't wait for season 2
I also am an avid fan of Asian tv and movies. Honestly, I felt the show was just perfect, delightful and made me feel very connected with the premiss in familiar obvious tropes in all the Korean tv I have watched. The concept here is just brilliant in mixing the two cultures. I believe we have enough of a sense of humor in both countries to play with the underlying 'mockery' of the tropes for films in Korean shows and it honestly made me feel very warm in the connection.
I didn't understand some comments of the acting. I actually felt everyone did an amazing job at keeping it real but also light and humorous with a bit to play with on the exaggeration of some obvious tropes. Really loved the choice actress for Claire. I was a bit mixed at first on the leading man as he did seem a bit more wooden and struggling with the typical Korean leading man part but also think it could be a bit more difficult to find the perfect blend of humor and slight exaggeration to serious lead man acting and guess that may have been the challenge for him here. He did warm up later though and was a bit more connected. I do think there was a chemistry with leading characters coming mostly from the last few episodes.
I can't wait to see the next season please. Truly a delight and something I could watch again easily. Loved, loved the beginning on episode 8 :-).
