Prey (2022)
I thought it was great!
I personally loved the movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and it was fantastic to see a more primitive version of the predator in action.
It greatly bothers me that people are writing this one off as 'woke' simply because it has a female protagonist. Folks are acting like she could neither be a hunter in her tribe, nor could she take on the predator and survive. I feel like they missed the entire point of the movie by shaking their head from side to side in denial the whole time.
Not only was the predator itself unprepared for what it was facing, but it was arrogant; seeing these people as some simple prey. This is supposed to be its first time on this planet, but it still held its own for the most part. By the time that final face off arrived, it was beaten, bloody and quite broken, not to mention, it couldn't see very well without the helmet. People are acting like it just killed folks left and right until the woman came along and arm wrestled it to death. She took advantage of the weaknesses she perceived, using her wits more than her skill as a fighter.
For me, this stands amongst the best of the predator franchise, and I truly wish that people would get over themselves enough to just enjoy something.
No, this is not a false 10/10. I have no agenda, I'm not connected with the studio or anything, I just know how to enjoy an action/sci-fi movie without picking apart every little thing.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Why are people being so hateful?
I truly don't understand it. Personally, I'm loving this show so far, and I can't see why so many are being so hateful towards it. Yes, I would have like this episode to be a bit longer, but even The Mandalorian had some shorter ones. If the story this episode told only needed to be this length, then so be it. If they had added in unnecessary filler to make it longer, people would've only complained about that too. I wish folks would understand that it's alright to just enjoy something for the entertainment value, rather than having to pick apart every little scene. Star Wars fans can be the most relentless there is, but I hope there are more of us out there that can just sit back and enjoy the escape from reality for a time. For me, seeing a far more dark and sinister Darth Vader, a broken and hurting Obi-Wan, and a young and adventurous Leia has been a blast so far. I've enjoyed all of the new characters also, and still don't understand the hatred towards them either. I grew up with Star Wars and these Disney shows have been quite the wonderful experience. I won't say I agree with every decision the writers have made, but that doesn't make any of them bad by any means. We complain when something is too predictable, but then whine when it doesn't go how we expected. Find a middle ground, people! Simply put: if you don't like it, don't watch it. There's no sense in fuming over your keyboard every week over something you don't enjoy.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
Not bad, but not Snake Eyes
Though I was unaware there was another character named Snake Eyes who had a perfectly normal, unburned face, talked a lot and couldn't fight very well, it wasn't a bad ninja action movie. I would love to see them do a movie featuring the other character named Snake Eyes some day, but this was enjoyable for what it was. Worth a watch at least.
The Education of Fredrick Fitzell (2020)
I thought it was brilliant!
I love movies like this. I see a lot of reviews claiming it was boring, or made no sense and various other slams. It is one you have to pay attention to. I often have a movie playing for background entertainment while I work on other things, but this one kept me glued to the screen. Dylan O'Brien is a heavily underrated actor, and this is another role that proves just how strong an actor he is. I think few could have pulled off this role, and he did a phenomenal job. I've always been fascinated by the idea of alternate timelines and choice drive dimensions, so this was right up my alley. Definitely a great movie for the existentialist. Please don't slam a movie because you didn't pay attention and got lost in the story. I can completely understand being confused by this one, if you don't pay attention, and this is one that is not for everyone. I plan to watch this again soon, and I hope to see more like this.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
This is DC!
I honestly do not have the words to describe how phenomenal this movie is. I will attempt to assemble some meager sentences to describe it, but it will not come close to how I felt watching this. This truly is the best live action DC project to date. Zack Snyder understands DC. I've never been much for the Marvel vs DC debate, because they are so different. I have love for both, but for very different reasons. This is dark, this is brutal, and this is DC. Allegations and such aside, I have no disrespect for Joss Whedon as a director. Firefly will always be among my favorite sci fi universes, and Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse will always have my love and respect, too. Unfortunately, Joss was not the right director for DC. It's a shame that the first Justice League had the issues it did, and it's also a shame that everyone points the finger at Joss for it. But now we have something so much more epic and brilliant than we could have hoped for. I am so grateful to all who were involved in bringing Zacks vision to light. I know the chances are slim, but I would love to see the Snyderverse continue. This is the DC live action universe I so desperately want to see more of. When a 4 hour movie leaves you wanting more, like immediately more, that is a sign of something special. Thank you so much, Zack! You have made this lifelong DC fan so happy. On a side note, Ben Affleck truly is the best Batman/Bruce Wayne to date. Cyborg, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Supes are all equally as perfectly cast. These actors embody their characters so perfectly. The cast, the effects, the story and soundtrack. Everything about this movie, in my opinion, was perfection. Such an experience!
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
I like it.
I'm not entirely sure why people are so negative about this one. I think, maybe, many seem to think every walking dead show has to be a carbon copy of the first. I think that's what went wrong with Fear the Walking Dead. It started as a show about the beginning of the end, but people whined and complained, so they made it a poor imitation of the original with less interesting characters. This one is something new. Yes, some familiar ground, as any movie or show about a zombie world would be, but I'm enjoying it. Is it as good as the original? Of course not. But that doesn't mean it's bad. It's like a good sequel to a great movie. It's never going to have that thing that hit you hard the first time around. I'm only on episode 3 of this one, but I've been sold since the first episode. I'm glad to see them going a bit of a different way with this. If we just keep copying the things that made the original great, what's the point? Just watch reruns. Admittedly, I am not one to take the time to make a review of something I don't care for. There's always plenty of people smashing even the best of things, so I'd rather just speak up when I've enjoyed something. Even more so when it's something that, to me, is being unjustly bashed. Give it a chance. Don't go in expecting to see The Walking Dead. Go in expecting to see a different story with different characters in the same world. Thanks for making it through my overly long winded review.
Supernatural: Inherit the Earth (2020)
I thought it was brilliant!
I will never understand why fans hate everything. I have followed this show since day one, and aside from an attempt at a spin off episode, Bloodlines or something, I don't entirely recall, I have loved every episode. Yeah, some were better than others, but that's the nature of shows. I am so sad to see this amazing show come to and end, but I do not think this will be the end of the Winchester brothers. Many shows do reunions and such, and very few shows go the distance Supernatural has. For this episode, though, I do not understand the complaints! Why is a happy ending a bad one!? I've hoped to see the brothers finally find peace. I was glued to the screen this whole season. In my opinion, they have went above and beyond with these final episodes. I do hope the next, and final episode closes the show well, and I have complete faith that it will. I doubt Jensen or Jared will ever read this particular review, but on the off chance, I want to thank you guys, and everyone who is a part of the show, for 15 brilliant years of an unforgettable and unique show. I will rewatch this for years to come and introduce my kids to the incredible world you created. There will never be a other like this, and I truly hope we have not seen the last of this universe. Until then, carry on....
Lovecraft Country: I Am. (2020)
Brilliant hour of sci-fi
So, I was pretty tough in this show over the course of the first few episodes. From the beginning, it's still held my interest, and kept me coming back week after week, but with the past three or so episodes, I find this has become a show that I genuinely look forward to every week. They've just been getting better and better, in my opinion. I was not prepared for how this one played out. It started off fairly run of the mill, but a little ways in, turned into just such a fantastic science fiction story. Some will still maintain that this isn't Lovecraft, but I don't think that's ever been the direction of the show. I've never read the books, but from what I've seen, this is more of an exploration into a dark chapter in history mixed with fantastic science fiction. I started this show somewhat cynical, and have become a genuine fan. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Lovecraft Country: Meet Me in Daegu (2020)
Brilliant episode!
This one was very unexpected. I was a little unnerved when the episode started. Seemed like such a major step away from the central characters and plot, but as the story unfolded, I was so impressed by it. The connection to Atticus, along with seeing more of his backstory, was incredibly well done. I hope we have not seen the last of the new characters from this episode. As always, the acting was phenomenal, but this will definitely remain one of my favorites from the season.
Lovecraft Country: A History of Violence (2020)
Loved this one!
I really enjoyed this episode. The sense of adventure through this one was thoroughly entertaining. The acting all around is still very strong, as it has been from the beginning. I've had my issues with the show here and there, but this episode really moved things in a great direction. I hope the story continues to keep the edge of the seat feeling of this excellent hour of television. This episode definitely renewed my interest in this show, just as I was beginning to question if I would continue watching. Looking forward to what comes next.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Most triumphant!
I truly loved every second! So great to see Bill and Ted back together again! The daughters were phenomenal too. I'm not going to ramble on too long or give away any plot points, but it was such an enjoyable movie. I loved the originals, and have watched them frequently over the years. I know some are complaining or claiming "woke" and such nonsense, but to me, this captured everything that made the original movies great. Thank you, so much, Keanu and Alex! You didn't do this for a paycheck, you didn't do this to make a massive success of a movie. You did this out of love for the characters and for the fans. You made this fans day. I haven't laughed out loud at a movie this much in some time. Samara and Brigette, you two need to make more movies together! Your on screen chemistry was just as excellent as your "parents". Please, be excellent to each other! And party on, dudes!
Lovecraft Country (2020)
I'm enjoying it, for the most part.
I'm enjoying the show. I do intend to continue watching, but I do wish it would focus a little less on how awful every single caucasian in the world is, and more on the story we're there to see. Not one single, remotely redeemable or even halfway decent white character can make things a bit repetitive. I'll be enjoying the fantasy and horror elements and then it takes a small time out to remind us that white people are bad. Like a commercial break or something. "This episode sponsored by every Caucasian is detestable! Now back to the show" I know this was a rough time period in America, but surely there was at least the chance of bumping into a white person once in a while that wasn't excited at the possibility of tormenting and killing African Americans. Still, I like the main cast and the story is interesting enough to look beyond the inherant hatred of all that is caucasian. It's so constant I just sort of take it in stride at this point. I expect the big finale to involve Cthulhu busting out in a white shirt and tie, listening to Rick Astley and chanting the N word, but that'll be fun to watch, at least.
Ink (2009)
Truly one of my favorite movies.
For the most part, as long as a movie or show entertains me, I'll give it a decent review. I'm one of the seven or so people who enjoyed both Justice League and Dawn of Justice. Many a mainstream movie does it for me, entertainment wise. I've seen a lot of movies from low to high budget, and I don't take lightly calling any movie among my favorites. Ink is one I would definitely call among my favorites.
It was one of those late night browsing through Amazon prime freebies what the hell kinda discoveries. The plot seemed interesting enough. Trailer looked decent. I was not prepared for how this movie pulled me in. I won't give away any plot points or even get into the story at all, but I will say check out the trailer and give it a shot.
Yes, it's low budget. Yes, some of the acting is dodgy here and there, but this has become one that I rewatch at least once a year. It's beautiful, haunting and just so well done, in my opinion. It's not for everyone. I won't deny that. It's not the normal format, not the usual set up, but that is one of it's many beauties. The score is so well done, also. To me, music can make a good movie into a great one, and this truly is a great one, for so many reasons. If you're in the mood for something different and don't mind the lack of the overproduced Hollywood touch, give this one a shot. To me, it is criminally underrated. Had I not stumbled to it, from no telling how long I was browsing, I may have never had the opportunity to see this wonderful movie. I really can't recommend Ink highly enough.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
I really enjoyed it!
I don't get the negativity. This was a fun movie. People can talk about agendas and all that good stuff, just because the main cast were female? I'm a guy, and I thought it was great. There was no "all men are awful" stuff, like some seem to think. I saw it as "these men are awful" bad people doing bad things. The "good guys" in this case, weren't exactly good either! Seriously, folks, this was just a fun movie. I saw no plots, no agendas. Just a crazy, chaotic, over the top movie, and I had a blast watching it. Not all movies are trying to make a point. Some are just good old entertainment. I hope more people will check this one out with an open mind. Just turn the old brainpan off, and enjoy.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
I loved it!
I can't understand the hateful reviews. I know it seems somewhat popular to condemn the new trilogy. I will say I agree with some of the negativity towards the last Jedi, but this one blew me away. I was glued to the screen from start to finish. It was dark, had lots of great action, and I found the ending to the saga quite beautiful. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I do believe some are swayed going in with many of the negativity. For me, this was the best chapter in the new trilogy. I hope people will give it a chance and decide for themselves. Between this and The Mandalorian, it has been a great year for Star Wars!
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
I don't understand the hate.
As another reviewer said, this was never going to be a happy ending. Yes, this was a hard episode to watch, but not in a bad way. Seeing the true nature come out, finally, was rough. Dany always had the madness inside her. Luckily, there was always a voice of reason to talk her off the ledge. Now, feeling betrayed, feeling the pain of loss, feeling everyone is plotting against her, the mad queen emerges. She has lost her way and her perspective and all she has left is her rage.
Many speak of the past seven seasons. The twists and turns. The in depth story telling. They're not wrong. But that's the thing. The story has been told. The characters have been given their stories. We're in the endgame now. This is when everything comes to a head. The final chapters are the culmination of the stories told. Yes, I would have loved to see what GRRM had in store, but I doubt he will ever finish writing the books. He introduced us to an amazing world, and for that I will always be grateful, but he made a boatload of money and just seems to have decided to retire from the world of GOT. It's a shame, but I am glad we are still able to get a resolution. If it went how people expected it to go, there would have been complaints of predictability. Again, I have enjoyed every bit of this ride and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. It has been a fatastic story, and I hate to see it end, but I look forward to seeing it. It makes me sad to think that folks are just so fueled to pick apart every little thing they don't care for, but those who assumed it would have a Disney princess ending have been watching a far different show.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Why do people endlessly focus on the negative?!
I see so many people complaining about this episode. I don't understand it. Saying "we waited 8 years for this!?" Really?! This was 80 minutes of nonstop insanity! Nonstop! People complained that the first two episodes of the season had too much dialog. Now they complain this one had too much action. What do you want?! Yes, the big bad dropped from one blow, but I never saw him as one who was a strong fighter. His power was in his control of the dead. Getting close to him was always the issue. "How did she get there without being spotted?"(paraphrasing) they showed that the dead couldn't hear her movements, but heard her blood drop. Yes. She's that good. Arya has been headed for this moment since episode one. Her journey led to this. Years of training and hardship led her here. Why are we ok arguing for realism in a story dipped in sorcery and fantasy. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I would never take that away, but come on people! This episode was phenomenal! I'm currently watching it for the third time, and still blown away by it. The internet is its loudest when it has something to complain about, but I hope, and believe that so many more people enjoyed this as much as I did. I'm so sad this story is coming to a close soon, but I'm so proud of everyone involved in this amazing show and what they have done these past eight seasons.
Hellboy (2019)
Don't believe the negative reviews
I'm a huge Del Toro and Ron Perlman fan. Yes, it would have been great to see their trilogy come to fruition, but it wasn't to be. It's a bummer, but is what it is. What we do have, now, is the opportunity to see a new trilogy happen. After watching this, I truly hope it happens.
Nobody can ever take away the great things that Perlman, Del Toro, and Doug Jones brought to the table, but David Harbour has brought his brilliant iteration of Hellboy in a big way. I thought he killed it! I enjoyed this movie from start to finish! There was not a full or draggy moment, not did it feel rushed. The CGI looked great, the practical effects we're beautiful and the acting from everyone was fantastic.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if some truly did not care for it, that is what it is, too. I feel like many crap on reboots because they feel it disrespects the originals they love. I don't see why both can't have their own merits. It's like the endless DC vs Marvel debate. Some insist only one or the other is worthy of their time. Again, I'm a big fan of both.
Seriously! This was such a fun movie. I hope the negativity does not hurt the chances for a sequel or a possible trilogy, because I want to see more. I feel like this is a great one for anyone who loves brutally violent battles, strangely relatable disfunctional characters, or just 2 hours of nonstop fun. I will be buying this when it hits DVD, and I hope than many many more will too.
Magnum P.I. (2018)
Give it a chance.
Ok. I'm a huge fan of the original show. I still watch reruns to this day, and will continue to. I read many of the existing reviews and decided to give the show a shot, regardless of all the negativity. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed it. No, the lead actor doesn't quite have the charisma of Tom Selleck, but who does? It's Tom mother freaking Selleck! Yes, Rick is taller, yes, Higgins is female. There are differences, and there should be. Otherwise, just watch reruns. I do. The thing is, all the characters, new Magnum included, capture the heart of the orignals, in a new age. The new actors will get their stride if they are given a chance to. This is a new age. A full on 80s formula show wouldn't work with today's audience, so adjustments are needed for any reboot. New ideas, stories, or actors are not stepping on the original. They are paying homage, while introducing a new generation to a fantastic character. Don't focus on the PC thing. Take the characters for what and who they are, not for what they were. You can enjoy the original and still enjoy the new. I made this account just to write this review because I truly feel, as a huge fan of the original, that this one deserves a chance. I love that we still have the Magnum narration and his "little voice". The new guy shows a lot of potential. Again, he's not Tom Selleck, but he very well could be Magnum P.I.
