Dunki (2023)

Works in some parts. Expected more from a hirani movie

So I decided to go watch Dunki. This was the first big collaboration between SRK and Hirani and my expectations were very high. The movie worked in bits and pieces for me. First half, there was some good comedy but not as much as I expected. Hirani films have glorifying comedy and this one was a bit lower than his standards. I felt this movie was more of a red Chillies movie than a hirani film.

Let's speak about the movies storyline. The story was actually something which could've been shown in a better way but what bugged me was the little things about not being able to travel back to your own country after seeking asylum and also getting and England passport. That was a loophole and I don't know what type of research hirani did there. Another thing is Indians can fly to turkey without a visa so how the hell do they all decide to go through Dunki right from Indian instead of flying to turkey.

Now I will talk about the pros of the movie. The first half has some good comedy and especially that scene where they go for their IELTS examination. That was hilarious. Another scene was the court scene which was done so fabulously. The emotions were there at parts and hirani did a good job there with them. Vicky Kaushal did a really great job with his role and the supporting cast was really good. SRK in the second half was at peak with his acting and you can see this tool belt he has created for himself.

Now the cons. SRK's humor didn't work for me. The vfx SRK hid his expressions in the first half and it bugged me a lot. There should've been more humor. Nothing numbs bhai level in this movie. Had vidhu vinod chopra produced this film, the outcome would've been way different.

After seeing this collaboration, I am so glad that SRK didn't say yes to munna bhai because he wouldn't have fit into that role and showing SRK on the big screen is a huge task which hirani kind of lost the grip with in the first half.

I rate the movie a 6/10. It's a good one time watch and families will enjoy the film. I don't think it'll make as much money as Jawan or pathaan because those movies gave a much more commercial appeal. I'm predicting the movie to close between 245-300cr.

Animal (I) (2023)

Had it not been for Ranbir Kapoor, rating would've been much less

I went into this movie expecting a never seen before story. The story was simple and nothin more than that but Ranbir Kapoor.... God damn man he is the best actor in India right now. He pulled it off with such ease and elevated the movie on another level. It is a well shot movie in my opinion and vanga has made a great movie to showcase the acting skills of such a great talent. The 1st half of the movie is amazing and goes with such smoothness. I felt the movie dip a bit in the second half and that romance angle could've been out to the side. Bobby Deol was a game changer but really underutilized. He should've gotten more screen time and a better backstory. Anil Kapoor as well was amazing and did a great job with his given role. The movie won't bore you at all because Ranbir Kapoor is taking up almost all of the 3 hours in this movie and he makes you wanna sit there and admire his work in each frame. The violence in the movie is gritty but not as much as I expected it to be. But overall, a good movie with great acting and also, do not take your kids. You will regret it.

Leo (III) (2023)

If the action wasn't this good, I would give it 7 stars

I watched this recently on Netflix. I think this is one the most violent films of Indian cinema and what Loki did with this movie was actually quite commendable. Talal that Vijay as Leo was raw, cunning, and deadly. The pace of the movie was well done and the scale this was graded on was done right. The movie hits the right cords and almost everything. The action was choreographed so sleek that you could not tell if there is a stunt double or not. Talking about the story, the story was good but I think it lacked a bit of seniority at parts. The issue I had with this was that he tells everyone that he isn't Leo but one guy in the movie looks at a picture of Leo and says he isn't Leo and he can tell by the eyes. That's a plot hole right there which didn't digest really well with me. Other than that, if you are a fan of movies like John Wick, your going to have the time of your life watching this.

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)

Sits in 2nd place in spy universe

So I rewatched this movie last night. I recently watched Tiger 3 as well so I was like why not watch the previous ones. Although the first one is my favorite, this one sits in my heart as it was time where I was on the peak of exiting my teenhood and the last of the good old days.

So let me start with breaking down this one. I think this was a big boomer for me due to its execution. The movie stood out at each aspect and Zafar (director) Did amazing with tigers character here. He knew how to show him up on screen and light the screen in fire. Although the story of the movie is simple the execution was seamless and hooked the viewer to sit there and enjoy the ride. The action was much more grounded than Tiger 3 and you felt this sort of testimony on screen. My favorite part was the chemistry of Salman and Katrina that was even better than the first movie. These 2 looked amazing in this one. The cast all did really good in this one. In my personal opinion, this movie has the best music out of all the spy universes. Dil Diyan Gallan is still on repeat for me til this day. Overall, some might find this movie slow, but it was a breathe of fresh air for me when it came out as it wasn't trying to go over the top and I loved how it created the aura of what Salman khan once was. Tiger 3 was good but disappointed me a bit compared to the other 2 and I just wish I could go back to the days of TZH and relive it in theaters. I got one request Sallu Bhai, make good movies but also with good music like you did with TZH. It's a bummer we have to bear arijit Singh in every movie and it's getting too much of him now. Bring back Atif.

Tiger 3 (2023)

TIGER IS IN ULTRAMODE

So I just watched Tiger 3. Went in with many expectations for this movie as well. Well, I did find the movie to be very good their was a couple cons to it to.

Let's start with the good. To all the people saying their were no mass moments. First of all, it's not trying to be that. It is trying to be clever unlike what we saw in pathaan. I just kept seeing nonstop action in that movie which was forcefully put without a proper screenplay. Here I loved how the first half, it focused on building the characters and storytelling. If you've watched the Bourne series, mission impossible and bond films, you'll understand what they tried to do here. The second half was much more fast paced in regards to the editing but it gave you that dopamine thrust. The action pieces were amazing and although VFX still needed some work at parts, it was much better than pathaan. Seems like they took the feedback and worked a bit on it. Talking about performances, Emrasn Hashmi's character was not as good as it could be but he made it his own and acted it off really well. Salman Khan as Tiger was exactly what we've seen but I liked how he was trying to act in this one unlike the last couple lacklusters he's given. Katrina Kaif as Zoya was what I think should be the talk of the town. Almost all of her action scenes are done by her and she makes one hell of an action star. The other supporting cast was good and did they job well.

Now let's talk about the negatives. As I said vfx was a bit off at parts but I'll give it some leeway because this is a Bollywood movie and it isn't mounted on a $100m budget like Hollywood films. Tigers screen time in actions scenes was a bit less I felt. They gave him more interaction and witty moving instead which I don't mind but I felt they could've added a bit more of him. Talking about the big cameo in the movie, I loved watching the whole sequence but I feel the SRK should've kept it a bit more serious as the stakes were high. I am a Salman fan but I will say, Tiger Overshadows Pathaan anyway. It's like Salman was born to be Tiger.

So that my thoughts on the movie. I give it a 7.5 / 10 but I will say, the movie does not beat the first one. I believe Ek Tha Tiger was the best movie in this universe and will remain due to its intelligence in presenting a narrative one could only imagine. Do go and watch this one.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)

Tom Cruise doing what he does best

I have been a huge fan of the mission impossible series and this movie was a really nice addition. I will say, it's not as good as fallout but still very pleasant to see. The movie starts at a slow pace but kicks up in the latter half. The last 40 minutes were thrilling and had me at the edge of the seat. Tom cruise was doing what he's always been doing. The best thing in this movie for me was Hayley Atwell. She absolutely killed it with this movie but it was very weird for them to move on from Rebecca Ferguson. They shouldn't have killed her as it was a great character that was intact with Tom cruise. The other two characters benji and the other guy were sidelined which I thought was a missed opportunity. Overall the movie was a fun watch but could've been better.

John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)

PEAK OF ACTION DIRECTION

I have no words for this movie. It was a long one but one action sequence after the other. The way they coordinated all the stunts and tried to show donnie yen and keanu together was amazing. They have upped every single installment but this here was a different level. The story was your everyday story but the way it was showcased was the main powerhouse of the whole film. The car scene near the circle was something crazy in a different way as people have probably shot those types of sequence but to do it so practically like they did in this movie was absurd. I will say that just to milk this series, they should stop at 5 and call it a day or it will see the same fall as fast and furious.

Bhediya (2022)

How did this not make enough money

I recently just watched this after it released online. Considering this movie, I am surprise how a stupid movie like tu jhooti main makkar made more than this. This was amazing by Bollywood standards and I was impressed by the cgi. The vfx were much better than Pathaan. I wonder what company is behind the cgi. Talking about the story, it's something new from Bollywood in my opinion. The story of the wolf and how it turns up in the end is quite interesting. Talking about the performances, Varun Dhawan has been doing the same type of movies for sometime and this one was something much out of his comfort zone. I believe he nailed it with this movie. Kriti Sanon was actually the main aim of the storyline and you won't find out until the last 30 minutes why. In all honesty, watch it.

Fast X (2023)

Fast franchise has gotten the push it needed

Bringing mamoa into this movie was the biggest dub these people took. Although the movie was edgy at times, the last 30 minutes were chaotic. The cliffhanger and the the twist the pulled into the movie was amazing. Much much better than 9 in my opinion. I will say that the movie doesn't give much screen time to the others in this movie but there's a reason for it and I'm ok with that. They did tone down the craziness a bit and that was a good direction they took. I will say the tej and roman scenes didn't really work out for me in this movie and that they should give more screen time to my man Jason statham. Man's in the movie for like 5 minutes. All in all mamoa stole the whole show. The biggest spoiler I will give you is two people are back and one of them was something I never expected. Seems like vin diesel did this on purpose and he knew what he was doing. The Rock is back with a bang in the next movie. Also, we got gal gadot back and let me tell you this. Fast 11 is gonna blow up just because the rock has come back out of nowhere and we're about to see what happens with the rest of the team as they show in the end that the plane their in blows up and either their dead or they'll come alive again who knows.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

The charm of Animated Movies Still Exists

I was so relieved to see a animated picture targeted at family audiences after such a long time. The movie all in all was a such a charm. The way they showcased all the characters and the Easter eggs from the games such as Mario kart was a treat. Jack Black as Bowser was the best part in my opinion. He lived bowser. On the other hand Chris Pratt did great in the voiceover for Mario and I even forgot he was Chris Pratt for a bit and thought it was Mario the whole time. After watching this I will say that critics are rubbish and have forgotten how to rate a movie for the general audience that just want to go inside the theater and have a blast.

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

I witnessed the most speechless cinematic experience

First of all, I don't know how James Cameron has pulled this off with a movie that came out 13 years back. He blew away the first one with this and from here on out, it gets bigger and better. The water scenes will make your jaws drop. Only thing I was kind of skeptic about was the start as it was going too fast but the way it covers all it's grounds was crazy. The plot was really thin but who cares. It's a James Cameron cinematic bonanza and that's what matters. The 40 minute climax is one of the best action pieces I have seen in my life. The movie is something you wouldn't expect from the trailer as the narrative is based much differently. It's based more on jakes kids more than himself. I've heard this franchise will end in earth with the Navi going there and imagine just what Cameron will create with that plot. Take a bow Team Avatar. You are bringing a '' need hella guts'' movie and to be making this movie for so many years and putting in that dedication with the technology is something that isn't really seen anymore.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

TOM CRUISE YOU LEGEND!

This is one of the best theatrical experiences I've had and I'm so happy someone has taken the practical route rather than throwing everyone into a green screen. I watched the first one many times and I can't believe this just topped it by a huge margin. Tom Cruise will be written as the most passionate filmmaker in history. I mean to put a whole cast in a bunch of f-18 jets and act in a jet as well as film yourself is a huge deal. If this movie does not cross a billion then there is something wrong with taste that people have these days. So called marvel fans. This is what you call a cinematic experience. Not some cropped cgi scenes.

F9: The Fast Saga (2021)

Could've been much better but it is what it is

I am a hardcore fast and furious fan but this one seemed different to me then the rest of the movies. Felt like a tribute to the familia more than as a movie. I get they are ending the series and I will be honest I did enjoy this one but the excitement was kind of left out in this one. The adrenaline rush that you get watching these movies was a bit missing here. I think I really missed tej and Roman in the climax as they were in space and they should've been with the team on the ground fighting which would've been more fun. John cena did real good in the movie though and was actually watchable and applauded. The rest of the crew was alright and this time tej and Roman took the charm from the whole crew. They literally wasted Han. He could've done so much more to the movie and Mia was also wasted here. F8 in my opinion was a lot better and was more fun going and traditional to the franchise. Cipher escapes once again which has gotten me excited as I loved her in f8 and I know she has a lot more to go for in this saga and I can't wait for what comes next but please, don't rush the next one and please be cautious of not getting to the space stuff again as it was a big blunder and did not make the movie feel big. Overall the movie was fun to watch but it will not be one of my favorite fast and furious movie. I rank this A 6 out of all the fast movies I have watched.

Dil Bechara (2020)

I off the bat will tell you that the movie will feel good to you all because of the death of the actor. Sushant was a really deep soul who pulled off any character on screen and he does the same here. Although the handling of the remake didn't feel as satisfying to me, I still enjoyed the performances and AR Rahmans music which added a bit of a taste to the movies feel. All over, the movie is not as good as how people are saying but it is a watch all because of the Late SSR

Saaho (2019)

Big investment shown marvelous on the big screen

This movie is something that is supposed to be witnessed not talked about as a story and still I will hand it off to the writers that the twists and the settings have been thought of very good. I love the imagination of whoever is behind this. I thought Prabhas was going to look baddd but he took The movie on his shoulders from start to finish. You have no clue of the twists at all. The whole movie is behind a imagination to put a action sequence in the works and show the world how far Indian cinema has gone I will be honest the took ideas from movie and especially largo winch which pretty much was like this movie so I think they should've given credit to largo winch but still the movie Is worth a watch and especially on IMAX. I watched it 3 times in IMAX and I still don't get bored. Just made a home theater and watched it in Dolby atmos and gotta say that 4K image and audio quality is worked on very good

This movie was something I expected to be a big scale movie and it had not even 1%. This movie had the potential to bring a wave at the box office if it had a bigger budget with some next level cgi and trust me if they put more effort it would've been a action feast. Next thing is Sushant singh Rajput. He is a complete joke in the whole movie. He isn't an action star from any angle. Instead of him they should've brought Hrithik or even Salman. This movie could've became even better if the script was more worked on. I liked what they went for and the concept and all but this shouldve been a big scale movie set somewhere else rather than Delhi. This movie would've been a box office beast but anyways next time think before even starting on a movie Karan Johar. Movies are not redone once they start u have to finish it so make the right decisions

Thugs of Hindostan (2018)

It's actually not that bad

I think the critics are being too harsh with this movie. It's actually a fun watch with lots of fun and laughter keeping in. Amir Kahn is promising and I'd the funniest thing about the movie. Amitabh bachan just blew it up with the movie and proved that he still hasn't lost his acting skills. Fatima Sana sheikh was alright and Katrina Kaif had no reason whatsoever in the movie. The movie kind of lost its storyline and wasn't that good but the movie itself was not boring. In my opinion it was much better then race 3. Don't listen to the critics. If ur a big fan of Amitabh and Amir watch it and even if u wanna just have some fun and enjoy the movie go for it

Tum Bin II (2016)

This movie actually isn't bad at all

One thing. What's the problem with the critics. This movie made me feel in love with the characters and the music and the story it self. The pain they showed and the songs were just incredible. I loved how the cake jagjit singh alive even today. Aashim Gulati was a mixture of siddarth and karthuk aaryan but he did a good job but Aditya seal carried the movie on his shoulders and proved that he has a place in bollywood. He is one of the new talented actors I can say has a future in this industry. Neha Sharma was alright and looked pretty and all and the supporting cast did a fabulous job. I just didn't feel satisfied with the end. They could've showed more to make a happier ending. Over all the music and the movies concept makes the movie beautiful

Machine (II) (2017)

Only thing good was the songs and location

How can you make such a movie. Same story same plot. The twists were ok and the location and songs were fabulous but OMG. This is literally the worst movie Abbas Mastan have given till date. It's not boring but it's just the same thing over and over again. Mustafa was somewhat ok but he needs time to make himself and the rest were just their for playing around. This movie is not what I expected from the duo

Incredibles 2 (2018)

Wasn't the best but was good enough to make me fall in with the incredibles

The movie was good and all but it made me feel like I liked the 1st one better and whenbhaving that in mind I kept thinking the flaws that weren't in the first one. But overall I loved how they brought powers in the baby and introduced so many new characters. It's something I can watch over and over and not get bored of but if I choose between the 2 the first one was slightly better

Baazaar (2018)

Ooofff Saif is back in business

The real nawab of bollywood has made a movie with such perfection it's just hard to miss this one. Saif Ali khan just killed it with his role. His acting was so on point ur looking at him rather then anyone else on screen. Rohan Mehra definitely is a really good newbie and will make a lot of good movies with his acting skills. He doesn't look like a newbie in the movie and the acting he has done is flawless. Radhika Apte was the worst choice she shouldn't have been given this role at all. She honestly can't act. This role should've been given to someone like Aliaa bhatt because I will tell you you might think that's a bad decision but Aliaa bhatt has those acting skills to do that role. Chitangda singh was just okay but not much to say about her. Over all the story was really good and the way it talked about stocks and how they played this whole game throughly was worth watching. This movie isn't for everyone thought because it's about stocks and it looks like single screens will find it kind of boring. Over all the movie is really good and the only reason this movie met my expectations was because of Saif Ali Khan

Satyameva Jayate (2018)

People have made movies like this before too!!!

First of all this movie is similar to a lot of other movies. The 7 stars I gave is to the direction and how the cast has performed so well except for one person. That new girl. Omg it looked like they picked her off the street. She cannot act at all. I literally couldn't take it in at all. Manoj bajoayee and John Abraham killed it. When both of them came man to man it looked amazing. Both were actively adapting their roles. Dilbar was honestly the best song in the movie and was worth a watch. Other than that the movie was just average if you look it story wise but it's a masala entertainer and nothing boring. It is a one time watch and if you have some free spare time it won't do any harm

Baaghi 2 (2018)

Nicely made with inspiration from Rambo

I have to say Tiger Shroff is literally the Rambo of bollywood. Even Sylvester says that him self. The movie went by really good on a smooth ride which has lots of masala. He's shown as a one man army which is also what Rambo is. It also shows a fight in the end in a jungle with Asians and it reminded me about the 2nd Rambo movie where he fights in Thailand in a jungle. Here they adapted it and fixed it into a more traditional way where it shows that if they have Rambo then India has Tiger Shroff. No doubt he is the next big action star. The feat he has achieved in such a age is remarkable and the 3rd installment will for sure be a bigger biggie.
