Alta mar (2019)
Why do I love this?
Let's be clear, I am someone who is into non-fiction and can't stand fiction, but this got me hooked. It is not just the beautiful costumes, the great lighting and amazing personalities. This show is so well written and interesting, it made me doubt my rigourous abjection of fiction. It is Downtown Abbey meets Lobe Boat meets Agatha Christie. Great fun
Death to 2020 (2020)
Absurdism we need
It is a great lookback on 2020. It targets the right and the left and it is actually a great reminder of a lot of crazy things we have experienced this year. I love the unbiased attacks on everything and no matter who you support, this is a quick reminder of all weakness on either side. This year has not been a good year for whatever class, creed, race or whatever you come from. The fact that the mockumentary is unbiased is a breath of fresh air. I only gave it 8 stars because it focused to much on the Anglo-American side. Only problem is it wasn't that funny, but much thought-provoking, which is also a good thing, but it is advertised as a comedy
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)
Don't get the other reviews
I am feeling kinda at a loss here. I've watched this movie and didn't get it. It was boring from the beginning to the end. Why are people giving this movie such high marks? Nothing in this movie spoke to me, it was narratively sad. Perhaps it was well acted or good cinematography? But story-wise.. Nah. Like I said, I don't get the other reviews..
Green Book (2018)
Thank you
This is a movie of this time. It is funny, heartwarming, sad and hard. It touches on the racial problems of this time, but with a smile and hope. It is what all movies at this weird and disturbing moment in movie history should be like. I gave it a 8/10 simply because it shoulde be revisited in the future. Story is great. Thank you
IO (2019)
Worst movie ever?
After watching this tragedy, I keep on thinking if it is the worst movie ever. It probably isn't, because there are way worse movies out there. But I wasn't prepared for this ridiculous scenario, this is just bullocks.
Holmes & Watson (2018)
Travesty
It's a travesty, I love Will Ferrel, but this is just awful
The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden (2013)
Liked it but those accents..
I liked it, but those accents really put me of. As being fluent in German and English this was irritating. Let them tell the story in either English or German. Not this.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Quirky fun with flaws
This series isn't the greatest thing on television today, but it deserves praise. The first season of Homeland was better, but that was an already tested storyline.
Jack Ryan is played by John Krasinski, who is loveable, quirky and fun. As a Doctor in Economics he is not believable, but as a CIA-agent with a moral compass, he works quite well.
The story in itself is unnecessary complicated and lacks credibility and suspense.
If have a feeling a great opportunity has been missed. This is a series that could really bring something new, but it didn't. It stayed on the level of 24 and Homeland, great shows, but outdated.
And why did that drone-pilot go to Syria??
WALL·E (2008)
Creating a new genre, simple as that!
Of course, since toy story we have seen a gradual increase in excellence when it concerns animated films with Ratatouille as its culminating last masterpiece. But this.. this is extraordinary. First of all, aside from the somewhat disappointing story, it is masterfully made and done with so much skill that it sends a thrill through your spine. It is new, it is fresh and it has never been done, such quality in an animated film.
Nonetheless, the main achievement of this film and its legacy will be just that. It has opened up a new genre in which everything is possible and in which this performance, will fast be superseded by better story lines and characters that will not only exist based on cuteness but also on strong story lines. I cant wait to see what the future will bring in animated films. But if this is a glimpse of that future, then I know that we all will be in for some beautiful and mind-blowing treats.
Thank you Pixar
