As with many good animes, the writer does not shy away from jarring contrasts. Consistently disturbing, frequently sweet. The show has action but is not ABOUT the action. It's main themes are just how human are the girls they are training as assassin? And how should their handlers treat them? The answers to the second question which the individual handlers come up with is invariably influenced by their different opinions on the first.

Soul Eater Not!
(2014)
Mostly fluff

I know it says Not right in the title but they really mean it... and they set themselves up for failure by making it more slice of life than the action and world building Soul Eater had. It is an ok show, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if my expectations had been more correct.
Nice fluff

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

I am no horror fan

I am no horror fan, but this has some major redeeming features in my view. I like the diverse supporting cast: non-binary kid (or trans... they don't explicitly say yet but I am guessing nb) and a bad-ass black girl who fights for her rights. The fantasy adventure aspect wad balanced well with the horror, which did not cross the line in either gore (just off camera) or despair. The script is reasonably well written if you don't mind when camp is played up on occasion. I will probably check out the next season when it is out.
The Other Guys

Watch this one on Netflix just for the first chase scene with Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. The scene lasts 2-3 minutes and got all the stars I gave the movie. It is unbearably bad besides that one epic scene.
