Coherence (2013)
Brilliant Movie, could be a play, if you like that sort of thing like me.
I haven't written a review in ages but I feel this deserves one.
I like to take gambles on movies with promise and it usually pays off - this one certainly did!
I'm no nerd but I like a bit of sci-fi. I also like movies with a small cast and a small set - maybe I am a nerd. ..or I just have good taste.
If you have a bit of intelligence and 20 minutes patience - you will be rewarded. It takes that time to be introduced to the characters and the scenario - alright? Alright.
The acting is pretty spot-on, considering I didn't recognize anyone. (Upon inspection this isn't a bunch of new actors, it has the dude from Homeland and a dude from Buffy.)
Without spoiling much it ends up tapping in to the 'alternate reality' or 'multiple reality' game - which is cool. It starts off being quite amusing for the viewer but escalates nicely in to a dramatic conclusion.
All I can say is watch it. I am looking forward to watching it again - it's gone straight in my 'watch again pile' which isn't very large.
I wish more movies were like this. Well done everyone.
(My honest review would be a 9, but it deserves a 10 here for the sake of it.)
Observe and Report (2009)
Just... bad... really bad.
I don't review many things, only the exceptionally good and the exceptionally poor. Usually the latter.
I'm not sure why i'm bothering to waste my time writing this, I guess it was that bad that something COMPELS me to do so.
I put this movie on with Low Expectations in the first place.. and I got high.. and I still thought it was terrible.
I loved Pineapple Express & 40 year old virgin, but Seth Rogan isn't funny, charismatic or varied enough to be a leading role. His character in this is loath-able. Which works if you're David Brent, but not here. You hate him, and you don't even enjoy hating him. He's not a funny a-hole, or a bumbling a-hole, just an a-hole-a-hole.
There's humour peppered around.. but none of it is enough to make you laugh. I think I LOL'ed once, probably at Danny McBride because he is genuinely funny "AY RICO.." need I say more.
Everything else is just unbelievable, which is fine if it's FUNNY.. But shooting a naked guy in the torso from point blank range is just DARK... I like dark.. but not when i'm watching a comedy.
This film was f-ing atrocious. Jeeze.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
First time i've wanted to walk out of a cinema.
And I did.. for about 20 minutes. My bathroom break was far more entertaining. If it wasn't for my lady friend (she fell asleep) who wanted to watch it. I've not read the books. I don't want to. I watched the first movie, did nothing for me. And this? This? RUBBISH... someone has to say it... absolute rubbish. How can it make so much money, be so popular, have great actors & still be a pile of rubbish? There is nothing to help an outsider.. nothing to help you understand what's going on. I don't think there IS much going on. I just think it's rubbish... "wands on high" .. laughable.
The only redeeming factor was a couple of attractive girls on screen.
I was an hour in and I was just wishing, wishing for time to pass, it was 12:20 and I was begging for 2:30..
I thought I might enjoy it, quality production, special effects. Sorry, but its just plain rubbish, I don't understand it.
Happy to be out of the cinema and not watching it.
Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys (2008)
it's gonna rain horsec*cks tonight..
I can't agree less with the guy who gave this one star. For me.. the camera crew part was the worst part.. a let down for me as it was unrealistic. It's the downside to how the show has changed. I.E movie-quality camera angles and production. That said... TPB has also evolved in great ways. Randy is even sweatier. Lahey is brilliant in this special, amazing. I don't wanna be negative, some moments felt a little forced, but it was written well. Little things. Ricky isn't as great as usual.. which is a shame. He looks too clean now. Bubbles has some of the best lines. Good to see most of the entire cast in one episode. This was funny as hell.. I had to rewind parts and laugh again. If they made one of these every few months instead of a series i'd be happy. It's nearly a movie in its own right.
Watch it, enjoy it, support it... the world needs this show.
Shrooms (2007)
piece of crap.
I've seen some bad horror movies this year. This one takes the cake as it was actually advertised on TV and put in the cinema here. And that's offensive. At least other rubbish horrors are modest. These must be desperate times if we're putting 2 year old pieces of sh*t in the cinema.
Acting.. not the worst.. but annoying. All the characters were annoying. They said goofy things about 'shrooms' which was embarrassing, and they seemed to hate each other which is weird - why would you go on holiday with people you hate?..
No decent deaths.. at least let there be some gore.. All the deaths took place off camera.. what's the point? Cheap.
Too much reliance on scary music/sounds, Pointless use of scary faces zooming into the camera while making a scary noise. including faces that had nothing to do with the story, they were just there, to make girls jump. Lame. Lame. Insulting.
I was expecting it to be bad, and it really was. Don't bother unless you get mild enjoyment out of hating things that deserve to be hated.
