An interesting voyage down the rabbit hole
3 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
In the true style of Matrix-level storytelling, a very interesting tale about the human consciousness is played out, questioning every aspect of reality and the world (we) live in. This film incorporates information from both scientific minds and abstract thinkers. This film is not designed to reposition yourself in your life, but rather, to realize that there is more to the world around us, than we get to see in our daily lives, caught up in the turmoil of the world around us. A young woman struggles to find reasoning and logic in her life, struggling with a past that troubles her, and a present that seems like less than she planned for. Throughout her journey, the principals of quantum physics that are applied to analysis on a subatomic level are applied to every-day life. Some ideas are sound principals in quantum physics, others are merely theory. Abstract thought is also brought into play as an excellent way to balance the movie. Trying to examine life and its hardships through the eyes of quantum physics is virtually impossible when tackling such tough issues as love and pain. Those elements are discussed both by the model of the brain and training thought, and from the viewpoint of the filmmakers.

If you go into this movie expecting a sound explanation on why life is - then you may be a bit disappointed. If you are watching because you want an interesting play on quantum physics, then you may also be disappointed. But, if you liked movies such as the Matrix and "Existenz" for their ability to twist the story in such a way as to give you a new and fresh perspective on 'possibility', then you may very well enjoy this movie. To help out, I am a person of the mind frame that I love hearing contrasting views, contradicting arguments, and enjoy slower movies such as the DaVinci Code and National Treasure, because they present a possibility that is fun and exciting. What the bleep do we know offers one set of viewpoints on quantum physics, a biased view of organized religion and ties in very compelling thoughts to further expand its views.

If you're in the video store, I recommend this movie for a night when you're relaxed physically, but feeling mentally restless and need a good challenge.

Depends on your taste

Personally, I love Milla. Even in this, she's still Milla. She's hot, she's fit and she handles the 'tough' role well. I hold the director responsible for bringing it all together. Personally, I didn't 'dislike' this movie. It reminds me of Doom. With the right budget, the right director and time, it could have been the best film of the year. Otherwise, it will leave you feeling like something's been left out. What I liked was the fact I went for a cheesy, mass-action, campy, comic-book/video game movie. I expected fighting, explosions, gratuitous scenes with some nudity and a minimal plot. No, this isn't plot intensive like Silent Hill. (Again, an underlying feature that could have been better handled). So, if you're like me, and you enjoy seeing Milla do her thang, faceless soldiers being under mass slaughter and needless, gratuitous violence, then this is the film for you. Of course, I look for this type of movie only once per year. Just as a break from everything else. The quota has been filled!
