I loved the movie!
22 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't expect too much from this one, although I'm hugest Diane's fan, but I thought it sort of "Mama's boy". It was a very pleasant surprise, that it was really NICE movie!! It's a shame, that it hadn't wide release!!!!! First of all, Diane's playing my own mother first part of the movie, and I laughed hysterically!! Marylinn is eccentric and crazy, but it's not Diane Keaton's own craziness and eccentricity. She invented some really hilarious behavioral mannerisms, so it really makes you laugh hard. Second part of movie Diane's playing me 30 years later from now, and that's why I cried... It was my own speech on Helen Cooper funeral: "I spend all my life, trying to please anybody and be whomever they expect me to be, but just not REAL ME. And for what? I prefer to stay alone now, than be surrounded by the strangers, who pretend to be my family" (not exact quotation, but it just exactly ABOUT MY OWN LIFE, people... It makes me think seriously, do I want to find myself in the same miserable condition at 60,like Marylinn Cooper?.. Liv Tyler is a sweetheart and Dax Shepard is REALLY GOOD too. My husband laughed at the scene, where manager in carpet-store teaches Noah how to sell carpets behind the old lady. And also, I'm sorry, but the moment of Helen Cooper death is Hilarious!!!! So, the movie is really worth watching! I truly loved it! Thank you, creators!

well, according to the fact that Kazakhstan is my Motherland..I'm so angry on these guys, who made this rubbish!!! They deeply offend Kazakh people, by this "view"...I don't even tell that they didn't use Kazakh language!!!!! They used language they probably made up!!! They used names on the map - which they type just collection of letters, which means NOTHING!!! It's so unprofessional!!! It's so rude!! I'm extra-angry!! ALL I have to say - it has NOTHING IN COMMON with life in Kazakhstan!!! Not that it's ideal or so, it has own problems and yes, there are country-side with poor life-style, but they're not that silly and ugly...I just deeply hate this movie..

Warning: Spoilers
Well, first of all, about idea. I remember that Diane Keaton told in one of the interviews that she did this movie, because she couldn't get why guys shot their teachers and classmates in school Columbine (if I recall it right). So, my dear Diane, may I ask - what the hell you surprised of??? IMO, it's clear like a day - FREEDOM. Just too much of freedom, which USA are so proud of and which is great, but also has A PRICE to pay for. I don't tell that USSR, China and all totalitarist countries are great, they're suck at many points, but WE HAVEN'T THIS!!! No any case!!! Because we don't give our kids so much freedom. Just look at this movie from the start - you see lots of guys who walking over the school absolutely free, have NO ANY rules or limitations, they can pass lessons, they can do everything they want, teachers don't pay attention on discipline in classes, they can drive cars (which were bought for money, they didn't earn!), they can spend money on buying drugs and guns (also, money which they didn't earn) - just like example, in Ukraine or in Russia, you CAN'T buy a gun - you will go to prison for it, it's all highly serious! and school-boy, buying a gun, like a pizza, sorry - it's UNBELIEVABLE here!! r u kidding?? , parents have absolutely no connect to kids, obviously, because they "respect" kid's freedom or so? This is a whole world of absurd... silly talks without any sense, empty days without any control under... that all - is the cause of it. And I should say, the same thing caused 11th of September for USA. People, who think that they are free to do anything, that came into their mind, and they grow-up with that philosophy, they feel like Lords on this planet.. Too much of unlimited freedom for people, who aren't ready for responsibility for it - that is the problem.

About how movie is made. It looks like a documentary and I like it so much. Without any narrator or any text behind the frame, give you an opportunity to think and to guess by yourself, as Diane said in Charlie Rose Show. Well, this is a great method for smart people like Diane, but geeee, for those kids, who are in high schools and live those characters life - if they would understand something??? So as their parents.. I don't think so.. People, who are too depraved by unlimited freedom, who don't feel need to learn, to think, to (excuse me, all Americans - don't get me wrong, plz!) even learn other languages /"why? if whole world speak English?"/, they just feel themselves like Lords and certainly, they like it.. So this HBO (!!!) movie seems to me like a silent whisper in the desert of poor Gus van Sant and Diane Keaton, who are too smart for this life-philosophy... That's what I feel about it. I like their intention so much - to up this problem, but.. seems like it was too weak try, you know...I'm sure, that this movie was more event in Europe then in USA...and it didn't MADE to think the aimed audience... To made think THEM, you better show "The Departed", and that's for what I deeply respect Scorcese and Oscar for them as a best picture in this year!

the movie is just GREAT!
11 October 2006
Hey, WHOLE thing is just fabulous!!! I really appreciate the idea, the plot of eternal choice between ideas and feelings, human valuables and political views.. I think cast and directing are just amazing!!!! Why the hell Diane Keaton is too old?? Are you crazy? Are you go insane?? SHE'S PERFECT in that role so as in ALL her roles!!! She is highly believable as a woman, who wanted just to date with a gye and then found herself in that terrible adventure, without any right answer on question - what is wrong and what is right. She was like ship, which lost course and she tried to orientate on her feelings and that was so hard, because she understood both sides of fight and couldn't stand from..OMG, every woman could understand this.. I really love this movie, although it's too hard to re-watch it.
