Bulletproof (1996)
Weird film
This film has a really weird mixture of genres - toilet humour and action in one. It doesn't really pull it off - it should have stuck to one genre. The best thing I can say about the movie is that the dog in it is cute.
The most disturbing sequence is in the middle of the film when Moses (Sandler) and Carter (Wayans) decide to stop off at a hunting lodge/motel. I'm not quite sure what the point of this sequence is - it just seems gratuitous in the extreme. The proprietor of the hunting lodge ("Charlie") is a very nerdy looking guy. For some reason, Moses starts a conversation with Charlie about porno, jacking off, homosexual sex, sex in a threesome... Charlie's photo of his "wife" appears to be Charlie dressed in drag. There is no reason for this really juvenile dialogue and scene. Anyway, the whole scene seems to be directed to the moment when a naked Moses ends up with Carter's gun up his butt and Charlie sees them through the window. It all reeks of school boy humour about homosexuality - horrified and titillated all at the same time - which I don't find funny at all.
I have a friend who is always raving about Adam Sandler movies. This is the first one I've seen - after this, I'm not sure I want to see any more.
BTW, this is my husband's account - he's seen Happy Gilmore, and he tells me it's quite good - maybe I should give Sandler just one more chance.

Cabin Fever (2002)
Comedy/Horror with Great Randomness
I actually found Cabin Fever quite amusing after I realised it wasn't going to be a scary horror movie. I guess it is occasionally frightening, in that way you expect from this genre, in semi-darkened scenes with that eerie music. It does remind me of the "Evil Dead" movies in terms of over-the-top gore, but I was still hoping for more of that somehow. Similar premise to the first Evil Dead movie too, in a way - a bunch of college kids go stay in a cabin in the woods somewhere remote and bad stuff begins to happen.
I was expecting to be blown away by it and so was initially disappointed, but on coming back to it - to particular amusing scenes - I get dragged back into watching it, it's somehow very addictive. I've forced a few people to watch a couple of my favourite parts of this movie, and they've generally cringed and laughed and probably wondered what the attraction is... It is very stupid at times, but that's becoming a plus for me.
I really like the occasional random stuff and the strange dialogue at times. The characters might not have been very well developed, but they work well enough for me in this film. And there are moments of shocking gore, which is really what I was after in the first place. It seems to have been very well made - well much greater quality than Evil Dead #1 and Bad Taste - which was all I was hoping for. I'd give it 6.5 if I could.
