Too drawn out and mediocre acting
29 June 2023
Story is not interesting enough for a series. Could have made one good movie. Dialogue is really simple. Not in a 'The Wire' kind of way, but childish. The returning religious theme is not very credible and to be honest very annoying. The mother must be one of the most aggravating and unbelievable characters in all the the 'Power' universe. Can't stand the woman and I'm not sure this was intentional. Meech is obviously not a trained actor. It would very much surprise me if we'll ever see him acting again. All in all, a very underwhelming series with only cliches and below par acting. Kanaan remains my favourite in the Power Universe.

So conflicted
14 June 2023
I really don't know exactly how I feel about these series. Acting is stellar, so is cinematography. Story is intriguing but really starts to drag after a few seasons. To be honest I will keep watching for as long as Nell Tiger Free has a part. She's terrific and carries the whole show. Not to say the others are not delivering. There is no bad acting. The house is as much a persona as any of the actors. Shyamalan has really outdone himself in atmosphere and awkward dialogue. However, how long can you keep an audience captivated without a plot? Servant makes Twin Peaks like a easy to follow bedtime story.

Best series from the Power Universe
9 April 2023
Think I like these series the most from all the Power Universe series. Like one long good gangster movie. Great acting. Great story and dialogues. It's a lot more about personal relationships instead of unbelievable schemes and cartoon Serbian gangsters. Love the voiceover from 50 Cent. Keep thinking how this kid turns into the Kanan from Power gives this an extra layer. Cinematography is awesome. Raising Kanan feels real, maybe thanks to the input of some autobiographical elements from 50 Cent. Jukebox is a terrific and natural way to include LGBTQIA's. Must admit I've only seen season one so far, so I hope they keep this up or otherwise stop while they're a head.

Lip runs a restaurant now? Decent, but trying too hard
6 October 2022
Okay series. Nicely filmed, good actors. Trying too hard to be gritty in my opinion. The screaming and cursing gets tiresome real fast. I understand that it is to give us an idea of the stress and chaos in the kitchen of a deli. A couple of unsympathetic characters. Not very realistic, which is a problem if you're trying to make a series in this style. Main character Carmy reminds me too much of Lip from Shameless. I loved Lip, but I hope that Jeremy Allen White can do more than this. However I will watch all episodes and it's still a lot better than most series. Made me very hungry for a sandwich even if I didn't really need the peek behind the curtains. Pretty cool soundtrack also.

Read the book first to know better what to expect
5 September 2022
This is a terrific adaptation of the book. Viewers should read the book first to get a better idea of what to expect from the movie.

Max is not a spoiled brat, but a kid dealing with heavy emotions. When he puts on his wolf suit, he can channel this emotions by becoming very naughty. He crosses boundaries and therefore gets send to bed without dinner.

The fact that many viewers can't stand Max seems to me a job well done by the director. Children are supposed to be a little shocked when they see how naughty Max behaves. That won't happen when he takes a cookie from the jar.

I love animals and won't harm them. But people that are shocked to see a child chasing a dog in a world where children shoot up schools, seems a little strange in my European eyes.

His fantasy travel to The Things is how he deals with his regret. It's not supposed to be 'logical' or 'linear', as children fantasies seldom are. As a viewer you're invited to come along for the ride, but it can't resonate with everybody.

The Things are scary at first, that's the point. My 3 year old finds only some of them scary in the book. Nothing wrong with being a little scared, this happens every day.

I love this adaptation and the fact that the late great James Gandolfini have his voice to a character. It's visually spectacular and an emotional rollercoaster.
