Elvis (2022)

A movie that moves you
1 July 2022
Baz Lurhmann hit it out of the park and landed this film somewhere on the craters of the moon. Elvis's life was bigger than what could be edited down to 2 hours and 39 minutes but I defy any filmmaker to do better than this. Academy Award should be pending, though these days I think they're bought and paid for so they don't matter but he deserves one for what appears to be the sheer labor of taking his vision and translating it to the screen. And I'll be honest, I didn't know who Austin Butler was but if he doesn't get an Oscar for his performance, there is no justice. I watched this man transform into Elvis before my eyes, to the point where I believe he was channeling the energy of the King. An extraordinary movie for anyone who grew up during the era of Elvis and a history lesson for those too young to remember him. 10/10.

Scooby Doo remake
25 February 2022
I adore the Aurora Teagarden movies but this truly played like a remake of a Scooby Doo cartoon. I expected someone's mask to get pulled off at the end to reveal the one who had been terrorizing everyone with the fake tricks. And thank goodness for Nick's rational psychologist take that educated us on the reality of things. That contrasted with the cartoonish portrayal of the paranormal investigators. This one did not hit it out of the park, it didn't even get to first base.

Having the daughters of the stars play their teenage selves was clever and worth tuning in for. Both young ladies were perfect. Even though this wasn't my favorite I still look forward to more of this series. Just hope the next one gets back to the former storyline.

Pleasantly surprised
25 January 2020
I'm glad I gave this a try. After the first few minutes of yelling at the screen for her to do this not that (!) the story settled in and held my attention. All the actors were believable and I was hoping the formula was going where I thought it was because, you know, revenge is sweet! I recommend this one as a good Saturday afternoon kick back and watch an entertaining tale.
