Top 10 Best Incarnations of Power Rangers

by SilentDues | created - 30 Mar 2013 | updated - 30 Mar 2013 | Public

This is more a nostalgic list of favorites for a show I grew up with in the 90s and got back into some during the 2000s. The inclusions here make up the only seasons of Power Rangers I choose to watch, since other than team-up episodes, I can't really get into any of the other seasons. Enjoy!

1. Power Rangers Time Force (2001)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Crime

The Time Force Power Rangers travel to the past to stop Ransik and his band of criminal mutants.

Stars: Jason Faunt, Kevin Kleinberg, Michael Copon, Erin Cahill

Votes: 2,837

Season 9 of the franchise!

Time Force explores a time travel story where four of the core Rangers come to our present from the distant future, opening the door to change history as they know it and unite two soul mates born millennia apart. Arguably the most mature season of Power Rangers and I'd dare say darkest, with the 2-part team-up & "Forever Red" from Wild Force serving as powerful codas, this season ranks as my #1 favorite!

2. Power Rangers DinoThunder (2004)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Family

A team of unlikely personalities join forces to help save the Earth from the scheming Mesogog, a dinosaur-like villain who wishes to destroy humankind.

Stars: James Napier Robertson, Kevin Duhaney, Emma Lahana, Jason David Frank

Votes: 3,691

Season 12 of the franchise!

My second-favorite, Dino Thunder brings us back the legendary character Tommy Oliver following his departure during the middle of Turbo and one-shot return in "Forever Red", now taking on the mantle of mentor for an all new team of teenage Rangers still in high school. Tommy has grown much along with Jason Frank's acting, while the new trio of Power Rangers make up for some the wittiest and best character interactions ever.

3. Power Rangers R.P.M. (2009)

TV-Y7 | 22 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy

The computer virus Venjix wants to attack and destroy Corinth, the only city on Earth to survive its massacre. With the help of advanced biotechnology, RPM Power Rangers must save humanity and defeat Venjix.

Stars: Eka Darville, Ari Boyland, Rose McIver, Milo Cawthorne

Votes: 2,035

Season 17 of the franchise!

Get in gear with what I'd argue as the darkest season either right behind or directly on par to Time Force, five new Rangers are selected by a tragic figure known as Dr. K in a post-apocalyptic alternate Earth to save it from the brink of ruin. A season with the most mature origin stories I've ever seen and brilliant writers during its first half, RPM is a must-see season that even Saban's later Super Samurai had a crossover with.

4. Power Rangers Zeo (1996–1997)

TV-Y7 | 21 min | Action, Adventure, Family

Tommy, Billy, Adam, Rocky, Kat and Tanya are turned back to their teenage forms thanks to the Zeo Crystal. The Command Center is gone but the crystal leads them to the new Power Chamber and all but Billy take on new Zeo powers.

Stars: Catherine Sutherland, Nakia Burrise, Steve Cardenas, Johnny Yong Bosch

Votes: 3,152

Season 4 of the franchise!

It's Morphin' Time... all over again as the Rangers from the Mighty Morphin' era return taking on all new powers in the aftermath to their Power Coins' destruction, with Tommy, Rocky, and Adam taking on new colors while Kat stays firmly in Pink position and we get an all new Yellow Ranger. Billy stays on as technical advisor, we eventually get original Red Ranger Jason back for his own all new color, all that and so many amazing things in Zeo.

5. Power Rangers in Space (1998–1999)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Family

The most evil forces in the universe, Rita and Zedd, Machine Empire and Divatox, have formed an alliance with the monarch of all evil, Dark Spectre.

Stars: Tracy Lynn Cruz, Patricia Ja Lee, Roger Velasco, Christopher Khayman Lee

Votes: 3,649

Season 6 of the franchise!

The culmination to Power Rangers' famed Zordon Era, the second team of Turbo Rangers return without one of their own as they meet the kind of Red Ranger they'll truly need to lead their team into the ventures of outer space. Everything comes full circle for T.J., Carlos, Ashley, and Cassie as they follow Andros through every trial they must endure in order to save Zordon from doom and the universe from every prior evil the team has ever faced.

6. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993–1996)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Family

A team of teenagers with attitude are recruited to save Angel Grove from the evil witch, Rita Repulsa, and later, Lord Zedd, Emperor of all he sees, and their horde of monsters.

Stars: David Yost, Richard Steven Horvitz, Ed Neil, Paul Schrier

Votes: 24,670

Seasons 1-3 of the franchise!

Where everything began with the Zordon Era's genesis, including a huge non-canon movie and culminating mini-series that ended it all with a BANG, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers features the original teams of Rangers as led by Jason and eventually Tommy through the very first tribulations of terror as brought on by the likes of Rita and Zedd. What more could you ask for than seeing how it all started... and a Pink Ranger like Kimberly~

7. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (1999–2000)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Family

In a strange galaxy far, far away, the evil Scorpius attacks an innocent planet. Five brave teenagers rush to defend it and discover that they have been chosen to be protectors of the universe.

Stars: Archie Kao, Reggie Rolle, Danny Slavin, Cerina Vincent

Votes: 2,720

Season 7 of the franchise!

Serving as both an epilogue to the incredible Zordon Era and a start to the show's all new formula of character/story changing per year with suits, Lost Galaxy continues the space exploration theme in an all new way. In Space may've started the more mature themes, but here is where you'll see characters actually die and the iconic team-ups truly start, while Lightspeed's 2-part "Trakeena's Revenge" serves as a nifty coda.

8. Power Rangers Turbo (1997–1998)

TV-Y7 | 30 min | Action, Adventure, Family

Divatox has begun her invasion on Earth and the Power Rangers trade in their Zeo crystal powers for Turbo technology powers to combat this new threat.

Stars: Blake Foster, Carol Hoyt, Donene Kistler, Ed Neil

Votes: 2,751

Season 5 of the franchise!

Sure this season had its serious flaws, the repetitive bomb-detonator plots during the remaining duration featuring our returning Zeo Rangers and the far more campy happenstances when the new team picks up from where they leave off, but it also has many charms I'd take over other seasons not listed here any day of the week. This is a must-see transition between the EPIC Zeo and in Space seasons, so shift into Turbo!

9. Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)

PG | 99 min | Action, Adventure, Family

35 Metascore

A space alien is threatening to bring destruction on Earth, and the Power Rangers are enhanced with turbo powers in order to prevent her plan.

Directors: Shuki Levy, David Winning | Stars: Jason David Frank, Catherine Sutherland, Hilary Shepard, Jon Simanton

Votes: 9,870 | Gross: $8.36M

My favorite of the two theatrical films, set decently enough between the Zeo and Turbo seasons.

The Turbo movie explores what leads our returning team of Zeo Rangers into choosing an all new kind of power to take on their most deadly enemy yet, along with the most unique of Blue Rangers to a fallen partner. On top of the non-suit returning roles of Jason and Kimberly, this story brings closure to one season and prologue to an all new one, things will never be the same!

10. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1995)

PG | 95 min | Action, Adventure, Family

40 Metascore

A giant egg is unearthed at a construction site and soon opened, releasing the terrible Ivan Ooze, who wreaks vengeance on Zordon for imprisoning him millennia ago. With Zordon dying and their powers lost, the Rangers head to a distant planet to find the mystic warrior Dulcea.

Director: Bryan Spicer | Stars: Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Jason David Frank

Votes: 30,004 | Gross: $38.19M

Okay it's non-canon, but it's definitely something I'd suggest to a first-timer looking for a simple-length and amazing looking glimpse into Power Rangers' first few seasons.

Here you got three of the originals with Billy and Kimberly led by Tommy's new White Ranger form, in addition to replacement Rangers Adam, Rocky, and Aisha as they take on a foe powerful enough to bring Rita and Zedd to their knees. Now more than ever, Zordon and the world need the Power Rangers!
