1. Slow West (2015)
R | 84 min | Action, Adventure, Drama
A young Scottish man travels across America in pursuit of the woman he loves, attracting the attention of an outlaw who is willing to serve as a guide.
Director: John Maclean | Stars: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Caren Pistorius, Aorere Paki, Jeffrey Thomas
Votes: 47,979 | Gross: $0.23M
Slow and unique foreign western with some good black humor thrown in. Comparisons are being made to the Coens, Jarmusch, and Wes Anderson but I think it stands well enough on its own. If you did like Meek's Cutoff, Dead Man, True Grit, The Salvation, Appaloosa, The Assassination of Jesse James, The Dark Valley, Bad Company, Eagle's Wing and other atypical westerns there's a good chance you'll enjoy this.

2. Inhabit: A Permaculture Perspective (2015)

Director: Costa Boutsikaris | Stars: Lisa Depiano, Charles Eisenstein, Ben Falk, Andrew Faust
Votes: 114
Surveys many different folks putting permaculture into practice around the USA. It doesn't really go into much detail but was made primarily to be inspiring to the novice and expert alike. Of note is Mark Shepard's farm which is reserved for last. I wish they would've covered Ben Falk's home a bit more but don't be surprised if you one day see a documentary strictly dedicated to his work alone. There is already a stand alone DVD on Mark Shepard's farm. These films along with The Permaculture Orchard, Holistic Orcharding, the Sepp Holzer documentaries, and others are the most important films being released today. Way more important than all of the other crap I cover on IMDB.

3. Maggie (I) (2015)
PG-13 | 95 min | Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi
A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.
Director: Henry Hobson | Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin, Joely Richardson, Laura Cayouette
Votes: 46,728 | Gross: $0.19M
Slower paced (apparently too slow for idiots looking for another action movie) tale about a family coming to terms with a member who was bitten during a zombie like outbreak. Hard to say if society is on the verge of recovery or collapse. This is a very grey film which relies on drama rather than horror to carry the story. Arnold takes on a minimal role which I'm sure is the kind he's always wanted ever since he decided to become a serious actor. Great cinematography and score.

4. Chappie (2015)
R | 120 min | Action, Crime, Drama

Director: Neill Blomkamp | Stars: Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver
Votes: 269,768 | Gross: $31.57M
I'm not sure what he was aiming for so I don't know if they ruined the film... but I do hate Die Antwood. That said, the effects are state of the art and Zimmer's score is great. The issues of AI have always been disturbing to me and it was odd how they were "tackled" in this film. 30 years from now this will be considered a cult classic... like the many strange 80s sci-fi films out there.
6.9/10
5. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
R | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.
Director: George Miller | Stars: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz
Votes: 1,087,027 | Gross: $154.06M
A little weak in the story department and a lot weak in the dumb feminist undertones but hey, this guy makes movies about talking pigs... Very convincing as a post-apocalyptic culture/world and more believable than the other Mad Max films in that respect. The action is top of the line and unlike anything ever made before.
7.6/10
6. Kung Fury (2015)
TV-14 | 31 min | Short, Action, Comedy

Director: David Sandberg | Stars: David Sandberg, Jorma Taccone, Steven Chew, Leopold Nilsson
Votes: 62,442
All the best things about the 80s (except thrash metal) tied together into one ridiculous non-stop intentional cheese fest.
7.5/10

A (more or less) all around solid revenge film from out of nowhere.
7.09/10
8. Jurassic World (2015)
PG-13 | 124 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
A new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.
Director: Colin Trevorrow | Stars: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Judy Greer
Votes: 679,657 | Gross: $652.27M
Probably the best of the JP sequels. You get action, dinosaurs, suspense, dinosaurs, a little humor, and even some dinosaurs. It may not be scientifically accurate but the only reason people watch this stuff is because they want to be chased and eaten by dinosaurs. Life just isn't as exciting as it used to be... Also, this is put together pretty well. The director isn't really your typical blockbuster kind of guy.... until now.
7.2/10
9. Ex Machina (2014)
R | 108 min | Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in synthetic intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a highly advanced humanoid A.I.
Director: Alex Garland | Stars: Alicia Vikander, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Sonoya Mizuno
Votes: 590,014 | Gross: $25.44M
Extremely solid AI film which surpasses Spielberg's interpretation of Kubrick's Artificial Intelligence. Speaking of Kubrick, this is heavily influenced by his work. Weird in all the right ways. Very tense and damn near seamless film making here.
9.4/10
10. The Boy (I) (2015)
Not Rated | 111 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller
An intimate portrait of a 9-year-old sociopath's growing fascination with death.
Director: Craig William Macneill | Stars: David Morse, Jared Breeze, Rainn Wilson, Bill Sage
Votes: 5,746
A little slow and flat at times but still better than most films of this type that'll show up this year. Not quite horror, more of a dark character study which will apparently be the 1st film in a trilogy about a serial killer. Main problems are that it could've been a bit darker and more suspenseful but the acting was mostly alright, same for the story. I expect this director to perfect his craft in the years to come, look out.
6.91/10
11. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
PG-13 | 141 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

Director: Joss Whedon | Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth
Votes: 922,190 | Gross: $459.01M
Top of the line CGI. If you enjoyed the comics you'd probably enjoy this. Give in. Pretending you don't like it doesn't make you an intellectual. Films covering so called "important" topics or those which try to teach "life lessons" are about as absolutely meaningless as the standard superhero movie.
7.7/10
