This is a list I have tried to make before but accidentally left. So I'm planning on resurrecting it for a, hopefully, most triumphant return. Everyday I will post a classic film which I deem to be a masterpiece. So please, stay tuned and behold as the list slowly grows.

1. Casablanca (1942)

PG | 102 min | Drama, Romance, War

100 Metascore

A cynical expatriate American cafe owner struggles to decide whether or not to help his former lover and her fugitive husband escape the Nazis in French Morocco.

Director: Michael Curtiz | Stars: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains

Votes: 606,276 | Gross: $1.02M

I decided to open with the inaugural film in my previous attempt of this list. When the phrase 'Classic Hollywood' appears, the mind recollects one image, that of Rick and Elsa - Bogart and Bergman - staring into each others eyes in the films climactic ending. The ending often scrutinised and debated over is truly the most beautiful and brilliant ever committed to celluloid. As we watch the plane fly off leaving poor Rick behind in Casablanca the audience craves for Elsa to stay, for the plane to turn around. This moment is cinema at its most perfect. Timeless
