Sherlock Is Up for Unsolved Murders

O. J. Simpson was acquitted from all the charges against him from a murder trial that often called as Trial of the Century. The victims were Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman on June 12, 1994. She had been stabbed multiple times in the head and neck, but had few defensive wounds on her hands, the murder than slit her throat, her larynx could be seen through the gaping wound in her neck, her head remained barely attached to the body. While Goldman lay nearby, he had been stabbed multiple times in the body and neck.

Though O. J. Simpson was arrested in 2007 for unrelated crimes, no other else was brought to justice for these double murders, so the identity of the killer is still unsolved until now.

Stretching from 3 April 1888 to 13 February 1891, eleven separate brutal murders around the Whitechapel district of London, the victims were female prostitutes. The victims mostly suffer from deep slash wounds to the throat, followed by extensive abdominal and genital-area mutilation, the removal of internal organs, and progressive facial mutilations.

The horror behind these murders brought extensive newspaper coverage. Media called him/her as Jack the Ripper. More than 100 years later to this day, still no one able to identify this serial killer.

Zodiac Killer is a serial killer who operated in Northern California from at least the late 1960s to the early 1970s. This serial killer known for his craved media attention and seemed to enjoy taunting police with cryptic notes and clues as he left a trail of death behind him. Although the Zodiac claimed to have committed 37 murders in letters to the newspapers, investigators agree on only seven confirmed victims, two of whom survived. He shot and stab his victims seemingly at random.

To this day, no suspects have been confirmed in the case and it's still an open case.

On morning of January 15, 1947, Elizabeth Short was found on the west side of South Norton Avenue, midway between Coliseum Street and West 39th Street in Leimert Park, Los Angeles naked and severed into two pieces at the waist and drained of blood, leaving her skin a pallid white. Short's face had been slashed from the corners of her mouth to her ears, creating an effect known as the "Glasgow smile". She had several cuts on her thigh and breasts, where entire portions of flesh had been sliced away.

She was later known posthumously as the "Black Dahlia", as newspapers of the period often nicknamed particularly lurid crimes; the term may have originated from a film noir murder mystery, The Blue Dahlia, released in April 1946.

LAPD began an extensive investigation that produced over 150 suspects, but yielded no arrests. The case remain unsolved murder until now.

Lesane Parish Crooks known as stage name as "Tupac Shakur or 2Pac" and Christopher George Latore Wallace known as "The Notorious B.I.G." or "Biggie Smalls", both were highly successful American hip hop artist, singer, songwriter and actor. They were fatally shot by unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting six months apart. 2Pac was fatally shot on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas and six months later on March 9, 1997 The Notorious B.I.G. died in LA.

While there is no concrete connection between the two murders, they both known as rival at the time and there is allegation that The Notorious B.I.G. was involved in 2Pac murder before he was also fatally shot as 2Pac did.

Investigations were made to each case but later went cold. Both the case remains officially unsolved.

A lengthy handwritten ransom note was found in the house of John Ramsey and Patricia "Patsy" Ramsey December 25, 1996 in Boulder, Colorado. The note demanded US$118,000 in exchange of their daughter. John later found JonBenét Patricia Ramsey body, his daughter in the basement of their house about seven hours after she had been reported missing. She sustained a broken skull from a blow to the head and had been strangled; a garrote was found tied around her neck. Her death was ruled a homicide.

There is no main suspect other than the child parents' John and Patsy. The note and appearance of the child's body had been staged by her parents in order to cover up the crime. However, the DA determined that there was insufficient evidence to pursue a successful indictment. The case is still open until now.

On December 19, 1959, the entire Walker family was brutally murdered in their home in Osprey, Florida. Twenty-four-year-old Christine Walker was raped before being shot to death, while Christine’s husband Cliff, 25, and their children, three-year-old Jimmie and one-year-old Debbie, were all shot to death.

Clues found during the investigation included a bloody cowboy boot and a fingerprint on the handle of the bathtub faucet. Despite these clues, and despite upward of 500 suspects over the years, the case could not be solved.

About a month before the Walker family slaying occurred, the Clutter family were killed in their Holcomb, Kansas home by Perry Smith and Richard “Dick” Hickock. The Clutter case bore eerie similarities to the Walker case: both were quadruple homicides, with both parents and two children slaughtered (the Clutter’s other children escaped the violence because they were not home at the time). The slaying of the Clutter family inspired Truman Capote’s groundbreaking book, In Cold Blood.

Just north of Munich lay the Hinterkaifeck farm, located between Ingolstadt and Schrobenheusen, which has become infamous as the scene of one of the most gruesome and puzzling unsolved crimes in German history. On the evening of March 31, 1922, the six inhabitants of the farm were killed with a mattock. The six victims were: Andreas Gruber (63) and Cäzilia Gruber (72); their widowed daughter Viktoria Gabriel (35); Viktoria's children, Cäzilia (7) and Josef (2); and the maid, Maria Baumgartner (44). The murder weapon was a pick axe.

After the murders, after all six residents of the farm were dead, smoke continued to come from the chimney. Someone apparently continued to feed the cattle and to eat the food in the kitchen. The bodies were discovered four days after the murders, when seven-year-old Cazilia failed to show up at school.

More than 100 suspects were questioned over the years and decades–as late as 1986–but no arrests were ever made. In 2007, investigators reexamined the scene with modern equipment, but, again, turned up nothing.

On March 18, 1990, 13 works of art were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in the early hours. Men disguised as policemen tied up two night guards at the museum before taking off with 13 pieces of art. Among them was The Concert, one of only 34 known paintings by Johannes Vermeer and thought to be the most valuable unrecovered painting in the world, as of 2015, it was valued at US$250 million. Also missing is The Storm on the Sea of Galilee, Rembrandt's only seascape.

The FBI has valued the haul at $500 million, and no arrests have been made and no works have been recovered until now.

Lizzie Andrew Borden was acquitted of the murders of her father Andrew Borden and stepmother Abby Borden. The murder happened in August 4, 1892, around 9:00 am Abby struck on the side of the head with an axe which cut her just above the ear, Her killer then struck her multiple times, delivering 17 more direct hits to the back of her head, killing her. Later around 11:00 am Andrew Borden took a nap after returned from his morning walk struck 10 or 11 times with a hatchet-like weapon. One of his eyeballs had been split cleanly in two, suggesting that he had been asleep when attacked.

The case received widespread newspaper coverage throughout the United States. Borden and her association with the murders has remained a topic in American popular culture mythology into the 21st century. The police never charged anyone else with the murders.

On the evening of Monday on 20 January 1931, in Liverpool, William Herbert Wallace found his wife Julia Wallace had been brutally beaten to death in their sitting room. Wallace arrested two weeks later charged with murder and found guilty after an hour's deliberation by the Liverpool jury, and sentenced to death.

But the verdict was overturned on appeal in May 1931. The Court of Criminal Appeal quashed the verdict on the grounds that it was "not supported by the weight of the evidence", the first such instance in British legal history. Wallace walked free and no other person was charged with the murder and it remains officially unsolved.

The case, with its strange background, has long been the subject of speculation and has generated many books, being regarded internationally as a classic murder mystery.

The Hammersmith nude murders was a series of six murders in London, England, in 1964 and 1965. The victims, all prostitutes, were found undressed in or near the River Thames, leading the press to nickname the killer Jack the Stripper (a reference to "Jack the Ripper").

Despite intense media interest and one of the biggest manhunts in Scotland Yard's history the case is unsolved.

On the evening of 3 May 2007, 3 years old Madeleine Beth McCann disappeared from her bed in a holiday apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region of Portugal. Madeleine was on holiday from the UK with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann; her two-year-old twin siblings; and a group of family friends and their children.

There is no significant suspect and motive around the case. In September 2007, Portuguese police came to believe that Madeleine had died in an accident in the apartment and that her parents had covered it up but status was lifted when Portugal's attorney general archived the case in July 2008 for lack of evidence.

Despite intense investigations by private detectives, UK's Police, German and Portugal, her whereabouts remain unknown until now. The media described the disappearance as "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history".

On the night of December 26th, 1898, Michael Murphy and his two younger sisters, Norah and Theresa “Ellen”, were slaughtered as they traveled back from Gatton in southeastern Australia. They were later found by their brother-in-law William M'Neill the next morning by following the road for the crooked tracks of his sulky, Michael borrowed his one-horse sulky cart take his sisters to a dance at the Divisional Board Hall in Gatton.

The scene was grisly and decidedly strange. Michael and Ellen lay back-to-back within a few feet of one another, while Norah lay nearby on a neatly spread rug soaked in blood. Forming a triangle, the sulky faced south from Michael and Norah. All three had their legs carefully arranged with the feet pointing to the west, one of the many odd details that remain a mystery.

This signature behaviour has never been repeated in Australian crime. Their murders prompted a massive investigation, yet the crime remains unsolved to this day.
