DC/Dox has unveiled the lineup for its second annual edition, which takes place in Washington, D.C., from June 13-16. The documentary festival will kick things off with “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” the Warner Bros. Discovery film that premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
The second edition of the fest includes 51 features and 47 shorts from 17 countries. That’s up from last year’s state of 31 features and 21 shorts from eight countries. This year’s lineup is made of 60% of filmmakers identifying as women or non-binary. Films will screen at venues including Smithsonian’s Museum of American History, the Burke Theatre at the U.S. Navy Memorial, and the National Archives.
“The films on the 2024 slate highlight the remarkable breadth and depth of documentary storytelling today,” says DC/Dox co-founder and festival director Sky Sitney. “From filmmakers around the world, these works recalibrate the past through archival footage, immerse themselves...

You might think Madonna‘s first album is simply overloaded with some of the Material Girls‘ best pop songs. According to the album’s producer, you’d be wrong! He said the album actually contains prophecies. Here’s what one musician had to say about the Queen of Pop.
Madonna’s producer wanted to challenge her on her 1st album
Reggie Lucas was a producer who worked with Roberta Flack and Miles Davis. He also served as the producer on Madonna’s self-titled debut album. During a 2013 interview with The Atlantic, Lucas discussed working with the Queen of Pop. “As a producer, you understood that your first job was to support people to achieve that end,” he said. “You challenged the artist just enough to bring out the best in them and introduce them to audiences that they normally wouldn’t be introduced to.

At the very moment Taylormania was hitting preposterous heights, threatening to turn the artist at its center into an untouchable icon, it turns out that the real Taylor Swift was spending her time between glittery three-hour concerts making some of her most fearless art. The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology is stuffed with the rawest, angriest, and most unguarded songs of Swift’s career – quite the opposite of the ingratiating, focus-grouped inoffensiveness that a skeptic might expect from an artist at her current level of visibility.

Padma Lakshmi’s post-Top Chef career may veer further into comedy, as the popular former host of the hit reality competition show shops around a comedy series script and continues to host her stand-up comedy night in Brooklyn.
In a wide-ranging and revealing New Yorker profile, out on Tuesday, Lakshmi tells writer Helen Rosner that the series was developed with Bridesmaids and Spy director Paul Feig, adding that it is a “hard comedy,” but declining to share its title or more about the show’s pitch. Lakshmi plans to produce and star in the series, she told the magazine.
Lakshmi has managed to become a household name, or at least an icon of the sensual potential of food, over her two decades as host of Bravo’s Top Chef. She exited the reality competition series in 2023 after 19 seasons, she said, “after much soul searching.” Kristen Kish filled her shoes...

Michael Jackson‘s stardom began with the release of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It took a lot to record that song and Jackson learned from the experience. The song also became the first of four No. 1 singles by The Jackson 5.
What the producer of The Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’ said to Michael Jackson
Berry Gordy was the founder of Motown. He also served as one of the producers of The Jackson 5’s first (and perhaps most popular) single: “I Want You Back. Before Dorothy’s mother passed away, she had a favorite saying, as Aunt Em reminds her grieving niece in the opening scene of The Wiz: “The hard stuff is there to let you know just how good you got it.” And while that’s a curious mantra to undergird a production of a Broadway musical, there’s something to it in the latest revival.

Barbra Streisand has recorded a new song, “Love Will Survive,” to serve as the end-title theme for “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” a six-part, Holocaust-themedseries that premieres on Peacock in the U.S. and Sky in other territories on May 2.
The song will come out globally via her longtime label, Columbia Records, on April 25.
It’s Streisand’s first-ever song pegged for a television series. Although she has released a series of archival recordings in recent years, “Love Will Survive” marks her first release of new and original material since her “Walls” album in 2018.
Said Streisand in a statement: “Because of the rise in antisemitism around the world today, I wanted to sing ‘Love Will Survive’ in the context of this series, as a way of remembering the 6 million souls who were lost less than 80 years ago. And also to say that even in the darkest of times, the power of love can triumph and endure.

Gwen Stefani has coached many talented competitors on the reality competition series The Voice. But a point was made that The Voice hasn’t really launched the careers of its top winners like other similar reality shows. Stefani offered her own theory as to why that was the case.
Why Gwen Stefani felt ‘The Voice’ rarely produced stars Gwen Stefani | Casey Durkin/Getty Images
Like American Idol, The Voice gave aspiring singers a chance at superstardom. But there were a few key differences between American Idol and The Voice other than their judging practices. American Idol contestants and winners had a history of achieving great success in the music industry, from Kelly Clarkson to Jennifer Hudson.
But winners on The Voice haven’t really reached the same heights that their American Idol counterparts have. This pattern was noticed, not only by fans of the series, but by industry professionals as well.

When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

Earlier this year, Mariah Carey sent her creative team to search for one significant piece of tour memorabilia. It had been nearly two decades since she last saw it: the glowing “Mimi” sign that lit up the stage during her Adventures of Mimi tour in 2006. Each night, the lighting structure would descend from above the stage as Carey — shimmering in a black, menswear-inspired co-ord — launched into “Shake It Off,” one of the most successful singles from The Emancipation of Mimi, released on April 12, 2005. The sign was a reference to both...

On Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé mixes R&b, country, and some hard-hitting guitars, among many other elements, and as the artist herself is well aware, there used to be a name for that kind of American melange: rock & roll. She slyly acknowledges that fact with two Chuck Berry moments on the album, including a segment of “Maybellene,” his first hit, in which a Black genius helped invent rock & roll via revved-up country.
So, there’s an argument that Cowboy Carter — which the artist has made clear is a “Beyoncé album” rather...

Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey does not like to read anything about herself as she treats it like a “coping mechanism” for her global fame.
“I would say it’s writing. It’s prayer. It’s like these little things that can take you from possibly being in a really bad mood to just being in a better place immediately. And just really being thankful for all scenarios, all the moments that come our way,” she told people.com.
“I don’t read anything written about me. That’s one of my coping mechanisms. It’s taking a bath.”
When it comes to taking a bath, Carey doesn’t really like it when someone else runs her one because they will often get things wrong, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
The singer said: “If someone is kind enough to say ‘Ok, I know you’re probably going to want to get inside and go in the bath,...

I'll never forget the day a doctor told me that I had bipolar disorder. Although I was smart and well-versed enough to know, cognitively, that Alex Forrest in "Fatal Attraction" was a problematic example of how a person living with bipolar disorder behaves, I couldn't shake the immediate fear in my soul that this diagnosis meant that I was going to be just like her. Still sexy as hell, obviously, but also the type of person who would stalk a one-night stand, kill their family pet, and pour acid on their car. Fortunately, in the years since my diagnosis, a slew of celebrities have been open about their own diagnoses. Carrie Fisher's memoir "Wishful Drinking" is arguably the highest-profile example, but Mariah Carey, David Harbour, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Linda Hamilton, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and legendary Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson have all spoken candidly about how bipolar disorder impacts their lives.

Ever since the raids on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ homes in California and Florida a name that’s been coming up a lot is Jay-Z. Part of that has to do with fellow rapper 50 Cent who has been trolling both men on social media following the news.
In one Instagram post, 50 put up an image of Jay’s face on the side of a milk carton with the word “Missing” written above the photo and captioned it: “Anybody seen Jay Lol” with several laughing emojis and “Puff said … ain’t answering his phone. Lol.” Then in another post, the “In da Club” artist shared a pic of the “99 Problems” rapper waving to a camera and wrote: “Here is Jay-Z last reported seen waving at Puffy jet” with an airplane emoji.
While there have been several lawsuits brought against Diddy recently alleging sexual assault and abuse spanning over three decades, Jay-Z has not been accused in those.

Gwen Stefani became a famous and accomplished artist in her own right. But even after her huge success, she still had aspirations of becoming another popular singer in one specific way.
Why Gwen Stefani was inspired by Mariah Carey Mariah Carey | Momodu Mansaray/WireImage
Carey has a long list of popular songs and records to her name. But perhaps one of Carey’s most famous songs is “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The record came out in 1994, and has been a staple in pop culture ever since. The Holiday themed song originally came about after Carey asked herself a simple question.
“I was working on it by myself … on this little Casio keyboard and writing down words and thinking about, ‘What do I think of at Christmas? What do I love? What do I want? What do I dream of?’ And that’s what started it,” Carey once told ABC.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

The season of the very first sign of the zodiac is here, and that’s exactly why being a leader comes so easy for Aries folks.
And that’s no joke, Aries really don’t know what else to be but a boss, CEO or innovator, because they’d rather play by their own rules. They march to the beat of their own drum and rarely ever need anyone to play backup instrumentals. Their charm, playful personality and great sense of humor make up for their impulsiveness and sometimes hot-temper, and there’s absolutely no other sign who will keep it all the way real with you like an Aries does, even if it’s something you don’t want to hear. They tell it like it is, as dishonesty goes against their entire m.o.

When Jimmy Fallon began his run as host of The Tonight Show, his memorable opening bit included an array of stars and celebrities—Robert De Niro, Tina Fey, Mariah Carey, Kim Kardashian, a pre-disgrace Rudy Guiliani, Mike Tyson, Lady Gaga, and more—planting 100 dollar bills on his desk,, each allegedly paying off their bets that Jimmy would never be the host of television’s franchise late-night show.
So do they each owe him a thousand now?
As of last month, it’s been ten years since Fallon took over—from Jay Leno—the chair behind the desk at The Tonight Show, bringing it back to its birthplace, New York City. In that decade: a lot of laughs, sketches, impressions, games, music performances, guests. Highs and lows, a pandemic here, a writers’ strike there; millions of views on YouTube and other sites; the usual complement of the thrills and spills and...

Joseph Kahn primarily works as a music video director, having collaborated with the likes of Taylor Swift, Backstreet Boys, Rob Zombie, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, U2, Aerosmith, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Maroon 5, Shakira, and many more – but he has also made a few feature films over the years. He made his feature debut with the 2004 action comedy Torque, and has followed that up with the comedy Bodied and the horror film Detention – which we’ve covered for both Awfully Good and Best Horror Movie You Never Saw. Now, Variety reports that Kahn is making a creature feature called Ick, and Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) have signed on to star in the film.
Ick is coming our way from Interstellar Entertainment and producer Steven Schneider. The film aims to “evoke the timeless creature features of the 1980s with an ambitious arsenal of scares and comedy.

Alyssa Raghu is throwing her hat back into the American Idol ring, hoping that a third time will be the charm. The singer, who previously competed in Season 16 (2018) and Season 17 (2019), made a special appearance on Sunday in support of her roommate — and ended up auditioning for a third shot at victory herself.
Raghu’s friend, 20-year-old Julia Davo, auditioned with a vibrato-heavy performance of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” that left the judges feeling a little shaky. They essentially told Davo the same thing they once told Raghu, that she should come back after she’s given her voice some time to grow.

A PR expert says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will stay “relevant” if they become interviewers after years of being interviewees. Not by releasing more royal family content. Instead, by having conversations with celebrities. (The Duchess of Sussex has already had some practice on Archetypes.) But it’s something else entirely that could take the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to a new level.
Interviewing celebrities would keep the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ‘relevant’
Speaking to The Mirror, PR expert Ryan McCormick shared how interviewing celebrities could help the couple stay “relevant.”
“If Meghan and Harry did a show where they interview celebrities or other globally respected individuals, it would immediately keep them relevant,” he said.
“For the foreseeable future, I would not recommend they ruffle any more feathers in the royal family,” he added. “A period of calm and quiet will suit them well.”
