With all the questions surrounding the next James Bond, Pierce Brosnan has given all of the two cents that he could. He’s dusted off inquiries and given his advice to the possible next actor, straight from his own experience of filling in the tux of the famous Ian Fleming 007 agent. While rumors still run rampant about Aaron Taylor-Johnson being courted for the role, no announcement has been made. However, Brosnan did give his approval of him for the role, saying, “I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”
Brosnan himself is set to pick up a new dossier outlining his next mission. According to Deadline, the former MI6 agent has signed on to be in the new romantic thriller A Spy’s Guide to Survival, which comes from Uri Singer’s Passage Pictures. A Spy’s Guide to...

With so many detective stories littering media of all types, it takes a fresh spin to break through the noise and legacy of the concept. And though older people solving murders is hardly the newest idea, TV host/author Richard Osman has certainly found one that works with his The Thursday Night Murder Club book series. Having sold the rights to Steven Spielberg back in 2020 when the first book hit big, the film version is now trundling out of the development phase with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Sir Benjamin of the mighty land of Kingsley aboard to star.
The books feature the four members of the titular society, who decide to fill their otherwise tranquil lives in a peaceful retirement village with a little more fun, meeting weekly to discuss unsolved crimes.

Richard Osman’s best-selling murder mystery novel The Thursday Murder Club is being adapted into a film by writer-director Chris Columbus, with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley to star.
For a while there, Richard Osman was more widely known in the UK as the clever chap with the laptop on TV quiz show Pointless. In 2020, though, Osman published his debut novel, The Thursday Murder Club, a mystery thriller considered to be such hot property that Amblin Entertainment – Steven Spielberg’s production company – snapped up the rights before it was even on shelves.
It’s now reported that Chris Columbus, of Mrs Doubtfire and Harry Potter fame, is to write and direct the adaptation for Amblin. According to Deadline, the film has already attracted an impressive cast, with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren (pictured) and Ben Kingsley announced so far.

Back in 2020, it was announced that Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker would be following that film up by taking the helm of The Thursday Murder Club, an adaptation of the debut novel by Richard Osman (creator and co-presenter of the BBC quiz show Pointless), for Amblin. Given that Parker’s involvement was announced just days before the pandemic lockdowns, it’s not surprising to hear that iteration of the project didn’t hold together… but The Thursday Murder Club is still moving forward. Home Alone and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus is now attached to direct the film, and Variety reports that Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye), Helen Mirren (The Queen), and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) are being eyed for three of the four the lead roles!

Image created by “Shutterstock.AI” The 1984 classic Gremlins is a movie that never gets old! Steven Spielberg produced it, Joe Dante directed…and Chris Columbus who wrote Home Alone and directed first Harry Potter movie? He wrote Gremlins too! Talk about a talented crew. Zach Galligan – the main guy in Gremlins – was recently at a Gremlins Comic-Con Northeast 2024 panel, and he shared a hilarious story. When he first saw the finished movie with his co-star, Phoebe Cates, he was a little confused. He was expecting a dark, action-heavy film, but Gremlins ended up being way more zany and fun. In 2002, Robin Williams and Al Pacino shared screen space in Christopher Nolan’s psychological thriller Insomnia. Compared to Nolan’s famed works, this film remained a very underrated one, but became a cult classic over the years. More significantly, it saw Williams in a completely different avatar as a scheming killer, which was a far cry from his comedic turns.

The casting of the two Oscar winners who were diametrically different in their styles and methods may have seemed like a risky proposition when it came to their working relationship on set. But the Mrs Doubtfire star tapped into his trademark witty humor to break the ice with Pacino in hilarious fashion.

Update: At CinemaCon, Universal confirmed they’ll be releasing Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in Fall 2025.
The original article follows:
The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So of course they’re developing a sequel, even if one hasn’t been officially announced yet. Five Nights at Freddy’s star Josh Hutcherson already said back in January that they were “nailing down the story” and hoping to get into production as soon as possible. CinemaCon attendees Wednesday got a first look at Focus Features’ second film with Robert Eggers, Nosferatu, a dark and gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her which causes untold horror in its wake.
Introducing the footage, Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said, “This ain’t your father’s Nosferatu” and promised it will give “new meaning to the term Christmas feast when we open on December 25.”
In the footage, we see the terror and hysteria rampant in the village as various townsfolk shriek, “He is coming” after the young woman calls to him seemingly in a nighttime trance. “My dreams grow darker,” she says, and asks Willem Dafoe’s Professor Von Franz, “Does evil come from within us, or from beyond?”

Bill Skarsgård has become undead bloodsucker Count Orlok for the big screen.
Skarsgård leads Robert Eggers’ long-awaited “Nosferatu,” a reimagining of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 film. Skarsgård plays the titular villain, with Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, the source of Orlok’s obsession. As Orlok tries to seduce her soul, Ellen’s husband Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) fights to save his wife from turning to the dark side.
Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said the film “definitely ain’t your father’s ‘Nosferatu,’ and [Eggers] will definitely bring new meaning to the phrase ‘Christmas feast.’”
The footage Focus premiered at CinemaCon (though not released online today) was as daring and intense as any film Eggers has made, complete with some chilling black and white sequences, a man biting the head off a pigeon, streets teeming with rats, and rooms engulfed in flames, not to mention a truly deafening, bone chilling score.

Turn on the security cameras, because Freddy Fazbear is on the loose again. “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” one of 2023’s most unexpected box-office sensation, is getting a sequel from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.
Jim Orr, Universal Pictures President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution, announced the news on Wednesday, during the company’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas. No other news about the film — such as a release window, creative team, or cast — was unveiled.
The announcement comes six months after “Five Nights at Freddy’s” became a hit at the October box office, where it grossed $297.2 million on a mere $20 million budget. A sequel film was probably greenlit by Act 3 of the first one.

Robin Williams’ Mrs. Doubtfire is one of the most iconic family-comedy features ever. The 1993 film was a massive hit amongst critics and audiences. According to director Chris Columbus, he also planned the sequel to the 1993 classic, and the late Williams even agreed to return to it. However, Columbus soon dropped the idea of the sequel after Williams tragically passed away in 2014.
Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire
Over the years, Hollywood has seen several director-actor duos who get attached after working on a project. Mrs. Doubtfire was such a project for Chris Columbus and Robin Williams. The Harry Potter director revealed that they became close friends after the film and spent almost every weekend together having fun. He cannot even imagine a sequel without the late actor.

It is absolutely wild to think that Robin Williams got passed over for the part of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series because he wasn’t British! Now, while David Thewlis undoubtedly did justice to the character, one can’t help but wonder what kind of magic Williams could have brought to the role. Because one can never accept Williams to be a wrong choice for anything! The Harry Potter crew really missed out on something special with that one silly rule.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995) Robin Williams Was Denied the Role of Remus Lupin Because He Wasn’t British
Robin Williams, known for his extensive Hollywood career and a string of iconic roles, is often regarded as one of the few actors universally loved in the industry. Many would assume that Williams could land any role he desires.
However, that wasn’t the case when he wanted to enter the Harry Potter series.

There’s nothing IndieWire loves more than directors talking about their favorite movies. So, of course, we took notice when, in late 2023, Turner Classic Movies started looping in directors to share their favorites from TCM’s lineup each month: Steven Spielberg’s TCM picks kicked things off, then Martin Scorsese waxed rhapsodic about “Madonna of the Seven Moons,” and Guillermo del Toro gushed about the greatness of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Suspicion.”
Now Chris Columbus is sharing his own TCM picks, along with some especially insightful anecdotes. Watch the video above.
Columbus starts off sharing his love of “Singin’ in the Rain”: “An amazing, almost flawless movie. You can say that about very few movies. I showed ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ to my 16-month-old granddaughter who was absolutely absorbed in the musical numbers. Moreso than any Disney animated films. I go back to it once or twice a year.

I showed ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ to my 16-month-old granddaughter who was absolutely absorbed in the musical numbers. Moreso than any Disney animated films. I go back to it once or twice a year.

Prepare to board the train to Hogwarts as the Harry Potter live-action series reboot may have zeroed in on its showrunner, as this recent report alludes. Previously, several names were being thrown into the mix, and it was believed Succession writer Francesca Gardiner was shortlisted as one of the finalists who’d be in the running to snag the role of the upcoming show’s creative leader.
This latest scoop, though, affirms that Warner Bros. may have settled on a clear winner to spearhead the adaptation, and it could indeed be Gardiner.

The world of Harry Potter, bursting with magic and adventure, has enchanted readers and moviegoers for years. While the eight films brought the books to life, the series had four different directors, each with their take on the story.
A still from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two films, established a magical and lighthearted tone that many fans loved. He was replaced by Alfonso Cuarón for the third movie, by Mike Newell in the fourth movie, and finally, David Yates took over for the final half of the epic story. However, many fans still wonder what could have been if Columbus remained at the helm for the entire series.

Harry Potter is one of the most significant franchises across various mediums, encompassing books, movies, and games. The series features a diverse cast of characters, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and many others. Daniel Radcliffe took on the challenging role of Harry Potter in the film series, showcasing his talent at a young age. With that said, Millie Bobby Brown decimated Daniel Radcliffe in just one line after he gave her tons of compliments.

When J.K. Rowling’s vision of Harry Potter was realized on the big screen in 2001, a very passionate fan was helming the film. Chris Columbus, who already made a mark in Hollywood with Home Alone, impressed Rowling and Warner Bros. and secured the directing gig. However, the passion quickly turned into dread after the filming became exhaustive for the director who couldn’t see his young children due to the tight schedules.

Los Angeles, Feb 15 (Ians) Actress Kate Hudson has revealed that her appearance in ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’, which released in 1992, still pays her residuals, even if she’s only earning a dime.
Kate was speaking on her podcast Sibling Revelry, hosted with her brother, Oliver Hudson, reports deadline.com.
During a conversation on her podcast, Kate discussed her credits with Joey Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence, and Andy Lawrence.
“I still get residuals from ‘Home Alone 2’ because I sang in the chorus,” Kate said, referencing the scene where Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McAllister ruins a school Christmas pageant.
“I’m in that chorus, and then I get 10 cents every once in a while.”
Joey Lawrence knows the feeling.
“Sometimes I’ll get, like, 2 cents and I’m like, ‘Wait. Doesn’t the envelope and paper cost more?’”
The Christmas comedy film is directed by Chris Columbus.

We all know the three rules of mogwai: don’t expose it to sunlight, don’t get it wet and don’t feed it after midnight. While that third point is up for debate as to its interpretation, one thing that isn’t is the desire for a third Gremlins movie – at least to its original star, Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer in both the 1984 movie and its 1990 sequel, The New Batch. With animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai proving to be a hit, maybe Galligan is right in his call for Gremlins 3.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Galligan said that the studio must have a plan for the Gremlins franchise if they have invested more time and money into Secrets of the Mogwai. “I can’t really figure out why Warner Bros. would do two seasons – not one, but two seasons – of the animated series, and spend a lot of money on it,...

John Hughes was the patron saint of adolescents who found great success with a series of hit comedies, most of them centering around the plight of teenagers. Yet how many of those titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films as both a writer and director, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1950, Hughes first came to the attention of Hollywood as a writer after penning “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983) and “Mr. Mom” (1983). That financially successful one-two punch landed him his first directing gig: “Sixteen Candles” (1984). A tender coming-of-age story about a teenage girl (Molly Ringwald) suffering one indignity after another on her sweet sixteen firmly established him as the premiere helmer of adolescent comedies, leading to “The Breakfast Club” (1985), “Weird Science” (1985), and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986).
Yet Hughes also excelled at entertainments outside the classroom, including the road trip farce “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” (1987), starring...

Focus Features had landed the worldwide rights to Sean Wang’s feature directorial debut Dídi, which won the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film is set in 2008 in the San Francisco Bay Area and, according to the film’s logline, follows an “impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy learns what his family can’t teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love your mom.”
Izaac Wang (Good Boys) stars in the film, alongside Joan Chen, Shirley Chen and Chang Li Hu. The film was also awarded the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast.
THR‘s Sundance review of the film reads: “The film is a very solid entry in the annals of coming-of-age films, reminiscent of Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade in both its affection for its young characters and its willingness to meet them on their own terms.

“Dìdi,” a coming-of-age drama that won the U.S. dramatic audience award at Sundance, has sold to Focus Features. The semi-autobiographical film was written, produced and directed by Sean Wang in his feature debut.
The film follows a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy in the throes of an awkward adolescence, as he enjoys the last month of summer before high school begins. He experiences the pangs of first love, becomes friends with some skaters (after promising to make videos of them), fights with his older sister and gets a hard-earned understanding of his mom. It is set in 2008, when MySpace was still a thing and TikTok had yet to explode.
Wang says he hopes that audiences will be able to see a version of themselves in the film, which stars Izaac Wang as the filmmaker’s cinematic alter-ego and Joan Chen (“The Last Emperor”) as his onscreen mother.

The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.
Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

Columbus continued: “Trump said Ok. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’ So we agreed to put him in the movie,...

Speaking to Business Insider, he acknowledged that the moment was a hit but added that Donald “did bully his way into the movie.”

There was no bullying involved in the Donald Trump cameo in 1992’s Home Alone 2, says the former president, responding to claims by the film’s director, Chris Columbus, that he “bullied” his way into the picture.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” Trump said on social media on Wednesday. “That cameo helped make the movie a success. But if they felt bullied, or didn’t want me, why did they put me in, and keep me there for over 30 years?”
Trump said he was begged to appear, but was “very busy” at the time and “didn’t want to do it.” But the filmmakers were “persistent,” so he agreed.
Trump has been accused of applying a quid pro quo for the filming at his Plaza Hotel.
“Like most locations in New York City, you just pay a fee and you are allowed to shoot in that location,” said Columbus.

Donald Trump criticized “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” director Chris Columbus on Wednesday for claiming in an interview that Trump bullied his way into the 1992 sequel.
On Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, the former U.S. president said that Columbus and the production team were “begging me to make a cameo appearance in ‘Home Alone 2.'”
“They rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which I owned at the time. I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent,” Trump wrote. “I agreed, and the rest is history! That little cameo took off like a rocket, and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time. People call me whenever it is aired.”
