John Leguizamo said during an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM radio show that it was “difficult” working with Patrick Swayze on their 1995 movie “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.” The cult classic starred Leguizamo, Swayze and Wesley Snipes as three drag queens whose road trip across America to attend a competition in Hollywood is upended when their car breaks down.
“Rest in peace, I love him. He was just neurotic and I’m not … you know, I’m neurotic too but, I don’t know. He was just … it was difficult working with him,” Leguizamo said of Swayze. “Just neurotic, I think maybe a tiny bit insecure. The 49th Chaplin Award Gala saw dozens of stars take to the red carpet to honor Jeff Bridges. The annual fundraiser benefits the Lincoln Center’s nonprofit sector, which supports student programs, film festivals, and movie series. Bridges received the iconic Chaplin Award as his former co-stars Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Sharon Stone, Chris Pine, and Rosie Perez applauded him. Many supporters couldn’t help but notice the latter actor. Perez turns 60 this year and still looks amazing.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. I was a reluctant actor at first. It took many...

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about the sacrifices she’s made as a mother of two children.
During an interview for Today With Hoda & Jenna, Zanna Roberts Rassi mentioned that Paltrow’s mother, actress Blythe Danner, “gave up some incredible roles” to raise her family, and was wondering if the actress-turned-wellness guru has done the same.
“There were a lot,” admitted the Oscar winner, who shares her daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 18, with ex-husband Chris Martin. She is currently married to Brad Falchuk.
“I mean it’s funny because it didn’t feel like a sacrifice to me at the time, but if I look back at it through a cultural lens, I think like, wow, if people know that I didn’t do this movie or that movie, they’d be quite shocked,” she added.

The classic sitcom series "M*A*S*H" was incredibly ahead of its time, managing to get quite a bit of mature material past network censors. Sometimes that material had to deal with the anti-war nature of the series and the difficult conditions the characters found themselves in, and sometimes that material was just bawdy. Seriously, there are a lot of sex jokes in "M*A*S*H" and quite a few people are knocking combat boots, but originally there was going to be even more sex, and more adultery. There's already an awful lot of adultery on "M*A*S*H," with several major characters cheating on their spouses, but the original plan would have taken that up several notches.
The adultery in "M*A*S*H" has a complicated legacy — the early seasons are a bit more laid-back with the characters' morals and there's quite a bit of marital infidelity, while...

One of television's greatest cads is Army surgeon Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, played by Alan Alda, on the classic sitcom series M*A*S*H. He's almost always hooking up with one nurse or another, but in one special episode, audiences got to see what happened when a woman truly captured his heart. In the season 4 episode "The More I See You," a nurse named Carlye ends up working in the Mash 4077 unit, and Hawkeye recognized her as the only woman (at that point) he had ever loved. She broke his heart and might even explain why he has such a negative view of marriage and even monogamy throughout the series, and their reunion is as chaotic as you might expect.
Carlye is played by actor Blythe Danner in the episode, and she's absolutely fantastic. She manages to feel totally at home in the world of "M*A*S*H...

In 1964 Barbra Streisand became a star when she opened the original Broadway production of “Funny Girl” as real-life actress, singer and comedian Fanny Brice. Despite rave reviews, she ended up losing the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical to Carol Channing for “Hello, Dolly!” But in 1968 Babs made her motion picture debut in a film adaptation of “Funny Girl” directed by William Wyler, reprising her role as Fanny. She went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress (famously in a tie with Katharine Hepburn for “The Lion in Winter”). In 1970 Eileen Heckart was Tony nominated for her featured performance as Mrs. Baker in “Butterflies are Free,” but lost to her co-star Blythe Danner. But in 1972 Heckart reprised her role in a film adaptation, which won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Just when she thought she was out, someone could pull her back in…maybe. Gwyneth Paltrow revealed during a recent Entertainment Tonight interview (via Entertainment Weekly) that, while she’s not keen on returning to screens any time soon, there’s one A-lister who could convince the Goop CEO and Oscar winner to act again: her pal Robert Downey Jr.
“It would be very hard for me to do any acting right at the moment, just because of my job,” said Paltrow, who’s plenty busy launching a more accessible fleet of her A-class Goop products at Target and Amazon. “But, I guess Robert Downey Jr. could probably always get me back.”
She added, laughing, “You know, to some degree.”
Paltrow has already said she’s long done with Marvel and playing “Iron Man” favorite Pepper Potts, revealing on the “Goop Podcast” when asked by Scarlett Johansson if she was finished with the franchise,...

Gwyneth Paltrow is addressing the “nepo baby” debate.
The whole debate all started last year when New York Magazine released an article about the tons of celebs that have parents, siblings, or other relatives in Hollywood and pointed out that it seemingly makes it easier for them to have access to opportunities that other people did not have.
If you didn’t know, Gwyneth, 51, is technically a “nepo baby” herself with her mom being two-time Emmy winning actress Blythe Danner and her late father Bruce Paltrow was a TV director.
In a new interview, Gwyneth called out all of the criticism surrounding the debate.

“Now there’s this whole nepo baby culture, and there’s this judgment that exists around kids of famous people,” Gwyneth shared in her interview with The Guardian. “But there’s nothing wrong with doing or wanting to do what your parents do.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has not taken too kindly to the “nepo kid” tag and has bashed people for giving her this moniker, saying there is nothing wrong in someone following in their parent’s footsteps. Gwyneth Paltrow's name has become synonymous with both Hollywood's A-list and the contemporary wellness industry, but did you know that she's actually a nepo baby? Paltrow's mother is Blythe Danner, who starred in "Meet the Parents" and "Will & Grace," among many other well-known projects. Her father, Bruce Paltrow, was a director and producer who happened to also be best friends with Steven Spielberg. Paltrow, to her credit, has seemingly wholeheartedly embraced the nepo-baby title; when InStyle posted a photo of Hailey Bieber wearing her "nepo baby" T-shirt, Paltrow wittily commented "I might need a few of these."
Her parents first met while working on a Broadway show in 1969, per People. They tied the knot in 1970 and welcomed Paltrow in 1972 and her brother Jake in 1975. Paltrow, of course, went on to follow in her mother's footsteps, becoming a megastar and later launching her company Goop. She also was married...

Adapted from the 2015 novel by Katherine Center, Netflix’s “Happiness for Beginners” largely takes place in the wilderness, where different kinds of people are forced to bond while braving the elements as they hike the Appalachian Trail. Led by “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “The Office” alum Ellie Kemper, the gaggle of goofballs provides laughs of all kinds as well as some heartfelt moments.
Zealous camp guide Bennett (Ben Cook) keeps everything interesting, especially when he scolds Helen (Kemper) for her careless mistakes on the hike and praises Jake (Luke Grimes) for all of his perfect moves in setting up and taking down camp. Nico Santos and Gus Birney even more humor to this romantic comedy story.
Here’s who plays who in “Happiness for Beginners”:
Helen (Ellie Kemper)
Ellie Kemper portrays Helen, who wants to start over after she divorces her husband. She experienced infidelity and a miscarriage during their marriage.

From the beginning, Helen’s plan to be the best hiker is tested and she finds more than just herself in the wilderness.

Vicky Wight’s “Happiness for Beginners” asks a question that it answers with more authority than just about any other film I’ve ever seen: Can something still be considered a Hallmark movie if it was made by Netflix? Legally, not so much. In every other sense, however, there’s no longer even a shred of doubt.
A flat and glossy film about a newly divorced woman who decides to walk the pain away on the Appalachian Trail (a two-week excursion that finds her tripping over tree trunks and falling for a hunky ex-doctor who looks like the human manifestation of a Home Depot), this veritable “Eat, Pray, Hike” leaves no trace of originality or dramatic consequence. The advantages it has over the likes of “We Wish You a Married Christmas” and “Royally Ever After” are twofold: A likable cast, and dignified source material.

Sitcom star Ellie Kemper gets the chance to subvert her usually chipper screen persona in “Happiness for Beginners,” writer-director Vicky Wright’s third feature and — following 2020’s Leslie Bibb starrer “The Lost Husband” — her second adaptation of a Katherine Center novel. Kemper plays dour divorcee Helen, who as the film opens is about to head off on a group hiking vacation, in the hope that it might snap her out of her post-split blues. Unbeknownst to Helen, her brother’s hunky doctor friend Jake (Luke Grimes) has booked himself onto the same trip, for reasons that are crystal-clear to the audience from the moment an exasperated Helen tells him, “God, you’re so annoying!”
We can tell immediately that we are operating under the jurisdiction of romantic comedy rules from the fact that Helen does not find Jake appearing unannounced on her trip — with only a thinly sketched excuse for...

"If you like him, just tell him." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a romantic comedy "adventure" called Happiness For Beginners, made by an Irish filmmaker named Vicky Wright. Netflix will release the film streaming starting at the end of July, if anyone needs something light and fun for an emotional boost nowadays. Helen has always lived her life as far from the edge as possible. Newly divorced, she joins a quirky group of strangers on a survival course for the "Adventure of a Lifetime" with the hope of learning how to live - and love - again. She discovers through this experience that sometimes, you have to get really lost in order to find yourself. Happiness For Beginners stars Ellie Kemper, Luke Grimes, Nico Santos, Blythe Danner, Ben Cook, Shayvawn Webster, Esteban Benito, Gus Birney, and Julia Shiplett. This looks nicely easy going & uplifting to watch, especially with Kemper brightening up every frame.

Nine years after he won his fourth and final acting Emmy for playing Walter White on “Breaking Bad,” Bryan Cranston has a solid shot at triumphing in the corresponding Best Drama Guest Actor category for reprising the role on the prequel series “Better Call Saul” on AMC. In fact, he has three chances to win at least his fifth acting Emmy this year since he could also earn notices for Best Movie/Limited Actor for Paramount Plus’ “Jerry and Marge Go Large” and for Best Drama Actor for Showtime’s “Your Honor.” If all three nominations come to fruition, he will be only the fourth person and second man to ever compete for three acting Emmys at once.

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t salty about her Pepper Potts hiatus.
Paltrow opened up about possibly returning to the MCU following the events of “Avengers: Endgame” during which Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), her onscreen husband, died defeating Thanos.
During “The Goop Podcast,” fellow Marvel actress Scarlett Johansson, who played Black Widow in the franchise, asked if Paltrow is done with the MCU as a whole.
“I think so,” Paltrow said. “I mean, I didn’t die so they can always ask me.”
Johansson replied, “I think you may come back at some point,” to which Paltrow asked, “Really? A 64-year-old Pepper Potts? How great.”
Back in 2019 ahead of “Endgame,” Paltrow announced the installment would be her last Marvel film.
“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” Paltrow told Variety. “I feel very lucky that I did it because I actually got talked into it.

Netflix has released the first official photos from the upcoming film adaptation of Katherine Center’s bestselling novel Happiness for Beginners. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Ellie Kemper and Yellowstone‘s Luke Grimes star in the comedy premiering on July 27, 2023.

Describing her attraction to the project, Kemper told Netflix’s Tudum she believed it “was such a well-told story of one woman’s experience in getting to know herself better.” Kemper added, “I was immediately excited about the prospect of playing a woman whose outlook on life, when we first meet her, isn’t so sunny. We Americans are fascinated with food and the people who prepare and serve it. A quick glance at all of the reality cooking/competition shows on television will confirm this. You’ve got everything from “Master Chef” to “Iron Chef” to “Next Level Chef” to “Chef’s Table,” “Chopped,” “The Great British Bake-Off” and “The American Barbecue Showdown,” for starters. But the legacy of scripted TV shows about cooking and restaurant-ing isn’t nearly as epic, which is why FX on Hulu’s “The Bear” was such a revelation when it launched last summer.
“The Bear” introduced up to the pressure-cooker life inside an Italian beef sandwich shop in Chicago. It captured the visceral, adrenalin-pumping chaos of the food industry in a way nothing had before, showing us just how unglamorous and dangerous (and yet colorful and compelling) a kitchen can be. After just eight episodes, it’s already probably the...

In an interview with People magazine, the Meet The Parents actor and mother of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Paltrow, revealed that she was diagnosed in 2018 with adenoid cystic carcinoma, an oral cancer that usually develops in the salivary glands. “I remember I looked up at heaven and said to Bruce, ‘Are you lonely up there?'” she says in the interview. “It’s a sneaky disease. But I’m fine and dandy now. And I’m lucky to be alive.”
