There are few actors who could make the receipt of a Facebook friend request feel as cataclysmic as Aldis Hodge does during the unexpected turning point of Tom Shadyac’s fact-based drama “Brian Banks.” As the eponymous lead, Hodge is tasked with carrying the weight of a story that seems too wild and strange to be real: a heartbreaking tale of false accusations and wrongful convictions that literally hinges on an odd olive branch extended via social media. Hodge sells it, just as he sells the rest of an otherwise chintzy film, a Lifetime movie-like drama that falls short of engaging with the many thorny issues it dramatizes.

The controversial film, based on a true story, is about a 16 year old football player who All-American high school football star who finds his life upended when he is wrongly convicted of a crime he didn’t commit, sent to prison after going through the broken legal system. Aldis Hodge stars as the titular Brian Banks, with a cast including Greg Kinnear, Melanie Liburd, Tiffany Dupont, Sherri Shepherd, Matt Battaglia, Xosha Roquemore, Dorian Missick, and Dean Denton. Tyler Perry’s most recent television project, “Too Close to Home,” received backlash for having a predominately white cast. The filmmaker is known for creating projects that feature African-American actors and the change made some of his fans criticize his TLC show on social media.
Now, Perry is responding to those who have questioned his casting decisions by saying, “That’s totally reverse racism, because it was coming from African-American people,” he told The Associated Press.
“I don’t know if it was because they thought I should only be giving jobs to black people. Well, I think that’s ridiculous,” Perry added. “If you look at the hundreds of black people I’ve given jobs to and even the ones I’ve made millionaires, people of color, I just think it’s unfair.”

They were startled to receive a distress signal from a supposedly decimated planet, but it was getting shot down by something on the surface of Dispater that really rattled the eclectic crew in the first issue of Roche Limit: Clandestiny. Taking place 75 years after the events of the five-issue Roche Limit series, this sequel storyline features new characters and fresh situations, but still retains the fantastic storytelling and gorgeous artwork of its predecessor. With Roche Limit: Clandestiny hitting comic shop shelves early next month, we caught up with writer Michael Moreci and artist Kyle Charles to discuss creating scares in space, returning to Dispater, the presence of androids, the possibility of a sixth issue in the Clandestiny story arc, and much more.
Your new comic book series, Roche Limit: Clandestiny, features a mind-bending mystery taking place 75 years after the events of the first Roche Limit story arc that wrapped up in February.

Universal Soldier began in 1992 before suffering from some tawdry sequels. Then John Hyams revived the franchise in spectacular fashion...
The Universal Soldier films are a strange case of life imitating art. Much like how series protagonist Luc Deveraux is killed in action then resurrected into something post-human, Universal was a pretty standard 90s action film which crashed and burned when it came to sequels, but became something unique and beautiful when it was reanimated for the straight to DVD market.
It’s a hushed secret among genre fans, but Universal Solder 3 and 4 (or possibly 5 and 6, it’s complicated) are some of the most remarkable action sci-fi films of the 21st century so far. Yes, really. I actually watched the series backwards when I first saw them, after being blown away by Universal Solder Day Of Reckoning and deciding to work my way back, and Roland Emmerich’s perfectly acceptable 1992 blockbuster...

I can't decide if this episode is rather run-of-the-mill because of the case, or because my attitude toward Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) is already ho-hum. Whatever the reason, mob bosses, Jane's usually trickery and Van pelt roaming about in the woods with the ghosts of her past didn't add up to a riveting episode. Lisbon (Robin Tunney) is worried about Van Pelt's coping skills when the necklace her ex-fiancé and Red John groupie, O'Laughlin (Eric Winter) gave her shows back up from evidence. Since Van Pelt has been playing "angry girl" all season since killing him, I'd say Lisbon's worry should have been more immanent a few months ago. Cho (Tim Kang), Jane (Simon Baker) and Van Pelt are sent out to the mountain home of the Gabriel Porchetto (Joaquim de Almeida), a Hispanic crime lord dying of kidney cancer. His sons were throwing a party, complete with womanly entertainment,...

What is this, “Thor” day? Not quite. And this is the real Thor, not to be confused with the, ahem, Uzi-packing “Almighty Thor”. Marvel Studios’ “Thor”, their first volley into the Summer schedule and the first of their huge slate of upcoming big-budget superhero movies doesn’t open until May 6th, but they’re already bringing out all the stops to promote it. The film has already screened for select critics around the world, and Marvel has now made themselves a commercial for “Thor” that parodies the cute as a button Darth Vader/Volkswagen Superbowl Spot. Check it out below. “Little Thor” — er, I mean, “Thor” — stars Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia, and is directed by KennethBranagh. Marvel has released a new clip from “Thor” that reveals your first look at Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Okay, so it’s basically some guy standing on some booth thing hanging in the sky while aiming down with a compound bow at Thor as he’s fighting a huge black dude. You can’t really see the mysterious man’s face or make out any kind of details in regards to his costume, and honestly, it could be anyone from Kenneth Branagh himself to actually Jeremy Renner up there, but from what we’ve read about Hawkeye’s cameo in the movie, this looks like a part of it. “Thor” stars Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, Matt Battaglia, and is due out May 6, 2011. IMDb.com is premiering six character posters for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor movie, which is set for release on May 6th 2011. The first two feature the characters Thor and Odin. The Thor poster is a variation of the poster already released, but Odin’s is something new. The posters will be released throughout the day, so look for more to come. The film has a pretty big cast which features Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas and Matt Battaglia. So anyone of these actors could be featured in the remaining four posters. More to come.

Chris Hemsworth's Thor doesn't look very happy on this Thor poster. Will Kenneth Branagh's Thor be something akin to Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight? Dark, brooding heroes facing dark, evil forces? If so, I'm all for it. In addition to Hemsworth, Branagh's Thor's cast include Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and Oscar nominee Natalie Portman (perhaps an Oscar winner as well by the time Thor comes out?). Various supporting roles have gone to the likes of Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgård, Rene Russo, Ray Stevenson, Idris Elba, Colm Feore, Matt Battaglia, Oscar nominee Adriana Barraza, and Tom Hiddleston. Thor is scheduled to open on May 6, 2011.

Reshoots are pretty common in big-budget Hollywood movies, and doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong with a movie. It could just be that this or that needed a little tweaking; or perhaps something tested really well with audiences, and the filmmakers decide to give the audience more of that something. Either way, Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor” has gone back for reshoots, according to What’s Playing. According to the site, the scene (or scenes) in question apparently involves a large crowd, because casting calls have gone out for “Nordic”-looking men, women, and chiildren. “Thor” stars Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Clark Gregg, Colm Feore, Tadanobu Asano, Adriana Barraza, Joshua Dallas, and Matt Battaglia. It’ll be hammer time May 6, 2011.

The Los Angeles Times debuted a new high-resolution photo from the upcoming action adventure film Thor.
Photo depicts the Great Hall of Asgard with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) kneeling before Odin (Anthony Hopkins) on the throne, in the company of (on left) Frigga (Rene Russo) and Loki and (on right) the Warriors Three: Hogun (Tadanobu Asano), Fandral (Joshua Dallas) and the foot of Volstagg (Ray Stevenson). The other shows Odin speaking to his son Thor.
Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s...

Chris Hemsworth has the title role in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Thor, the fantasy-adventure written by Ashley Miller and Don Payne, and based on the Marvel comic books. In addition to Chris Hemsworth, the Thor cast includes Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Adriana Barraza, Colm Feore, and Matt Battaglia. I vaguely remember watching some of the Thor cartoons on television. But just vaguely. In the film version, Hemsworth (of Star Trek and brother of Liam Hemsworth, currently on the big screen with Miley Cyrus in The [...]...

As "Brothers" opens in domestic theaters Friday, actor-turned-producer Matt Battaglia is preparing to delve deeper into his new career, unveiling a slate of original and acquired feature projects -- including one with J.J. Abrams.
Battaglia has been an actor for two decades, chalking up appearances on such TV shows as "Baywatch," "Charmed" and "Queer as Folk" before branching into the financing side of producing. That is how he got involved as a co-producer on "Brothers," the Jim Sheridan-helmed war drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire.
