It’s probably both surprising and old news to long-time readers (because I write snooty reviews, and talk about ABC Family a fair amount), but I’m simply a huge fan of ABC Family. I can’t really say why, and it isn’t exactly that I’m the world’s biggest Pretty Little Liars fan (though I was Aria once), but there’s something about the network and the show’s it delivers that, fan of any particular title or no, makes me happy they exist.
Even shows like Melissa & Joey, which seem to shut me right out on paper, have won me over as not only some of the coolest shows on TV (given sufficient demographic caveats), but moreover as strong arguments that television isn’t just about rotting your brain (though who would think I would be on the wrong side of that argument?). Look no further...

ABC Family also has renewed veteran drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, whose star Shailene Woodley is hot off her starring role in The Descendants, for a fifth season to become the longest-running series ever on ABC Family, hitting the 100-episode mark. In other ABC Family news, Tori Spelling and Tia Mowry have been tapped to star in The Mistle-Tones, the holiday movie which will anchor the network’s next ‘25 Days of Christmas’ event. “This Summer, we’re excited to continue to expand our content across key genres adding...

Diane Haithman is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage. Updated: We may not have seen the last of The Nine Lives Of Chloe King on ABC Family. The network canceled the drama series about a girl with cat-like powers in September after one modestly rated season. But during this morning’s ABC Family executive session at TCA, the network’s president Michael Riley said that “we are on the verge of putting a (Chloe King) movie into development.” No details to announce on story, but the plan is “to capitalize on the storytelling that’s already been in place,” he said. Dan Berendsen (Hannah Montana: The Movie), who developed and executive produced the series, is on board to write the Chloe King movie. In talking about the series, Riley didn’t want to use the word canceled. “We didn’t cut it short — we never talk about canceling shows at ABC Family,...

Good news, "Make It or Break It" fans. We know you've been waiting patiently to hear whether the show would return or not, and ABC Family has finally announced their decision! The network has picked up the show for an eight-episode Season 3, which will see the gymnasts head for the Olympics.
Also on deck are more episodes of "The Lying Game," about twin sisters played by Alexandra Chando who swap places. The initial first season order of nine episodes has now been extended to 19, so look forward to the series continuing in 2012.
Though "The Nine Lives of Chloe King" has officially been axed, there are four pilots in development -- one of which, "Baby Daddy," is from "Nine Lives" executive producer Dan Berendsen.
"Bunheads," from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, is a go, about a Las Vegas showgirl who winds up working at a small-town dance school.

Update 11 Am: I have learned that, like Nine Lives, ABC Family’s new comedy State of Georgia also has been canceled. Previous: ABC Family news kept coming in dribs and drabs all day yesterday: The back-12 episode pickup for The Lying Game, the cancellation of The Nine Lives of Chloe King and the pickup of two new drama pilots, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s Strut and the technology-themed Intercept. This morning, the network made its official announcement, which includes the pickups for Lying Game, drama pilots Strut (now titled Bunheads) and Intercept, as well as the pickup of two comedy pilots — Baby Daddy, from Nine Lives creator Dan Berendsen, and Village People — and the renewal of gymnastics drama Make It or Break It, “in time to ignite Olympic fever,” as ABC Family president Michael Riley put it. The network’s breakout hit this past summer, Switched at Birth, has already been renewed for a second season.

Is Andy Reaser surprised by the fan reaction to Alek? Where might things go on season two? And what can we expect on the Monday night finale of The Nine Lives of Chloe King?
The show's writer/producer - he penned "Green Star" and "Heartbreaker" - was kind enough to sit for a revealing, exclusive Q&A with TV Fanatic this week. Those questions and answers are below...
Were you given any restrictions on how closely your story had to follow those set up in the books?
No. The books are certainly where everything started, but TV fiction and book fiction are very different animals. We knew from the beginning that we would have to sustain Chloe's story for much longer (hopefully) than things go in the books.
We also didn't want people to read the books and feel like they didn't have to watch the series, because they already...

The Liars focus in on Jason Dilaurentis -- in more ways than one -- in “Picture This,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, August 9th (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
Since Jason Dilaurentis came back to Rosewood, there have been a lot of questions about him. Spencer is determined to find out what Jason is hiding at his house and decides to finally get some answers.
With Emily in tow, Spencer makes her move – but are she and Emily ready to deal with what they find out? Aria, on the other hand, can’t seem to get Jason off her mind for a different reason. With Jason continuing to pop up in Aria’s life,...

All of the lies finally take a toll on one of the Liars with dangerous results in “Save The Date,” an all-new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, August 2 (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
Emily has been juggling a lot of secrets and lies lately, and with a surprise visit from her father before a big swim meet, the pressure gets to be too much for her - sending her to the hospital. But with the prospect of having to come clean to her father about Danby, Emily realizes she has bigger problems when “A” reveals his/her part in Emily's swim career.
While visiting Emily, Spencer and Aria take the opportunity to try and do more digging around about the cause of Alison's death and how the broken field hockey stick may play a part in the last few moments of their friend's life.

The Liars are ill at ease when they each have to confront complicated matters in “Surface Tension,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series, Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, July 26th (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
Its moving day for Emily, and with a new place to call home, she is feeling more like a guest than part of the family. Hanna is also feeling uneasy, but for her it is in regard to Caleb’s continued shady “business” dealings and his nonchalant attitude about it. And when Toby makes a surprising discovery, Spencer is thrown for a loop by the find and her father’s reaction to it.
With the girls already on edge, could they be sitting targets for “A’s” next move? Or does “A” have bigger plans for the four and is just making them wait?
Meanwhile, Aria is put in...
