Sacha Baron Cohen's improvisational prank film "Brüno" is a conceptual mess that's satisfying as a lowball, turn-your-brain-off snot comedy, but deeply problematic as social commentary. It's this last aspect, unfortunately, that made 2006's "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" (and the character's original TV incarnation) an object of debate. Did Borat's interactions with prototypical dumb-ass Americans, and his stoking of anti-Semitic tendencies, critique the Arab world's cultural prejudice and expose the country's latent prejudice and paranoia, or merely invite smug liberal laughter and an unearned sense of cultural superiority? Was Borat a Rorschach test, or an admittedly mesmerizing comedian's clever way of indulging stereotypes while pretending to challenge them? And in total, was the movie a stinging critique of a fat, happy nation engaged in two distant wars against countries filled with Borat-types, or just a put-on faking relevance, the movie...

This summer, two movies will receive tons of uncomfortable laughs at the expense of babies. I've not seen Brüno, but its hilarious child cruelty might be outdone by Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover.
That movie comes out in a couple weeks, but we have to wait a full month and then some for Brüno, which is another one of Sacha Baron Cohen's twisted social experiments. There's plenty of baby insanity in the new Green Band (safe for work) trailer, and if you haven't seen the unrated Red Band trailer, this one is a little more tame - obviously - but it's still just as funny.
Especially when he goes on The Richard Bey Show. So check out the trailer:...

In his neverending attempt to prove to the world that comedy that is as subtle as a hammer to the face can make big bucks at the box office, Sacha Baron Cohen is back with “Bruno”, which sees the Brit playing a gay fashionista from Austria who journeys to the U.S. to make fun of us homophobic and repressed people. Cause, you know, we’re homophobic and repressed like that. Poster for “Bruno” below. Oh, how I miss the days when comedy meant talking out of your butt or styling your hair with man glue instead of a one-trick gag like, “Look, I’m really, really gay! It’s comedy gold!” Sigh. The mockudrama will star Cohen and a cavalcade of unsuspecting doofuses in Alice Evans, Trishelle Cannatella, Sandra Seeling, Candice Cunningham, Ben Youcef, Richard Bey, and Ron Paul. Larry Charles, who helmed Cohen’s 2006 hit “Borat”, returns to helm this one.

Call me crazy, but I think Sacha Baron Cohen’s new character in the movie “Bruno” might be gay. It’s all very subtle, mind you, and you really have to dig deep and read between the lines, but that’s just the feeling I get. Anyways, in the mockumentary, Bruno is an Austrian fashionista (I think that means he’s really into fashion) who makes his way to America. How he ends up making fun of rednecks out hunting, or somehow lying his way into the U.S. Army will probably make sense once you see the movie. Or not. Eh, new pics from “Bruno” below. Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Alice Evans, Trishelle Cannatella, Sandra Seeling, Candice Cunningham, Ben Youcef, Richard Bey, Ron Paul, and directed by Larry Charles. Bruno and his hot pants invade July 10.
