FBI Season 6 can best be summed up in two words: Treading water.
Collins Dictionary defines treading water as "to be in an unsatisfactory situation where you are not progressing, but are just continuing doing the same things."
Ok, so maybe that definition is a little harsh when it comes to describing the latest FBI season.
Its powers-that-be did give viewers a dash or two of character development. Not the average amount they would have received from an entire season, but some.
Questions about the impact of those changes in the characters' lives will have to wait for the next complete season to be answered.
Yet ever present were those "ripped-from-the-headlines" storylines for which Dick Wolf is renowned.
The terrorists, the possibility of Armageddon, and the tense takes on terrible threats remained front and center. If anything, this procedural became even more procedural, if that's possible.

[This story contains spoilers from the May 23 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “I Carry Your Heart.”]
Caterina Scorsone and Kevin McKidd may not have been part of the original cast of Grey’s Anatomy. But in the last 15 years, between Grey’s and its two spinoffs, Private Practice and Station 19, Scorsone and McKidd have both logged enough hours in the O.R. to become two of the longest-lasting actors of the venerable ABC medical drama, which was recently renewed for a record-extending 21st season. (In the Grey’s universe, McKidd has played Dr. Owen Hunt in over 350 episodes; Scorsone has played Dr. Amelia Shepherd in over 280.)
At this point, the characters and the fictional world they live in feel as real to the audience as the actors who play them. While Grey’s began as a soapy romantic drama that followed the lives of surgeons at a Seattle teaching hospital, the show has indubitably become a cultural touchstone — and, in turn,...

This was a much-overdue showcase for Oa that finally addressed the effects of his time with the Army in Afghanistan.
Not surprisingly, a case involving several Taliban on FBI Season 6 Episode 11 stirred things up for him.
And, frankly, you can never go wrong with a guest turn by Kate Burton portraying a weaselly politician.
It wasn't readily apparent why the FBI even got called in on an abduction of a random guy from his apartment building.
It must have been because NYPD discovered his boss was Leo Grant, the world's third-richest man, and they didn't want the inevitable pressure from above. Or maybe they passed it off because Tyler had wealthy parents, which would also lead to outside interference.
Oa was just relieved to get a call about any case so he would have an excuse not to explain the most painful time in his life to Gemma.

After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, and the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek shifts his focus over to the works of John Carpenter with the latest episode in his The Best Scene video series. The Carpenter classic Lance is looking at with this one is the 1986 action extravaganza Big Trouble in Little China (watch it Here) – a movie that’s so good, he couldn’t pick just one “best scene”. Billy Porter wrote the song “Always Be My Man” before he even knew about the film “Our Son,” let alone knew he would star in it, too. The multi-talented performer had wanted to pen a piece with collaborators Joe Killington and Conor Reeves about “the complexity of a relationship,” especially because he was living through a moment in which he was “fighting” with his now ex-husband. When the script for Bill Oliver’s film came his way soon after, the actor felt “the song was the law of attraction for me to receive this moment.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
The desire to write a song for a film in which he also stars is one Porter has felt for a very long time. “I’ve been doing movies since 1999. I’ve been trying to get a song in a movie that I’m in since then. I have been completely dismissed for decades,...

Movies about the financial markets inevitably have the same problem. It simply isn’t that visually compelling watching people stare at their computers or phones and muttering expletives. Adam McKay’s The Big Short managed to avoid the pitfall thanks to its truly memorable characters and such stylistic flourishes as having Margot Robbie explain complicated financial concepts directly to the camera while lounging in a bathtub.
Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money, about the 2021 GameStop stock phenomenon fueled by individual investors driven by social media, doesn’t prove quite as successful. Nonetheless, the film receiving its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival proves entertaining enough, thanks to its canny screenplay relating the story as a Frank Capra-style battle between the little people and the rich bigwigs hoisted by their own petards, and the fun performances by a terrific ensemble.

The official trailer for Sony’s “Dumb Money” has dropped, shedding light on how a group of amateur investors artificially increased the stock value of GameStop, the popular video game retailer.
The short squeeze occurred in January 2021 after Reddit users on a page called “Wall Street Bets” united to catalyze a market explosion. As a result, significant hedge funds and independent short sellers incurred devastating financial loss.
Based on author Ben Mezrich’s “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” similarly centers around the Reddit users behind the phenomenon with actors Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan and Pete Davidson in lead roles.
The star-studded cast also includes Nick Offerman, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Dane DeHaan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Clancy Brown, Anthony Ramos, Kate Burton, Christina Brucato, Deniz Akdeniz, Talia Ryder, Myha’la Herrold, Larry Owens and Rushi Kota.

Joseph L. Mankiewicz’ “Cleopatra,” which opened in New York on June 12, 1963 and in Los Angeles a week later, was not a flop. In fact, the 243-minute film was a box office champ making $26 million at the box office, $6 million more than the Cinerama epic “How the West was Won.” But being the most expensive movie of its time — the budget ended up being around $44 million which would be around $429.5 million in 2023 — it took a long time to recoup its staggering costs. The film was such a drain on Twentieth Century Fox, the studio ended up having to sell nearly 300 acres of its backlot. That acreage was transformed into Century City.
The budgets started to soar when the original production with Elizabeth Taylor, who asked for and received $1 million for her services, Peter Finch as Julius Caesar, Stephen Boyd as Marc Antony and veteran filmmaker Rouben Mamoulian as director, stopped production...

Does it count as representational progress when a drama about the fissures that destroy a gay marriage and the ensuing fight for primary custody of the couple’s child is just as bland as any heteronormative version of that sad story?
Bill Oliver’s Our Son boasts solid lead performances from Luke Evans and Billy Porter as the dads whose life together has hit a wall, plus a capable supporting cast stacked with talented theater actors. The movie is tasteful and restrained and sensitively handled at every step. But unless you count one of the men finding post-breakup sexual distraction wrapped around a slinky club kid named Solo (Isaac Powell), there’s too little here to distinguish the film from endless other broken-family dramas that have gone before.
There’s even less to put it on a level with standouts like Kramer vs. Kramer, The Squid and the Whale or Marriage Story.

Dr. Maggie Pierce treated her last patient at Grey Sloan Memorial Thursday, after nine seasons as a core member of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast.
For Kelly McCreary, the actress behind the talented cardiothoracic surgeon and Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister, the ABC medical drama’s two-hour farewell gave her the perfect vehicle to honor Maggie’s journey, and to close a major chapter in her own life and career.
“It meant a lot to me,” McCreary told TheWrap about the episodes. “When I spoke to Krista [Vernoff, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ showrunner and executive producer], after she agreed to let Maggie go, I said it’d be very nice to be able to have scenes that feel like closure with all of the characters that have meant something to Maggie … my homies, my family that I’ve been doing this with for such a long time.”

[This story contains spoilers from the April 13 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “Shadow of Your Love/Mama Who Bore Me.”]
After nine seasons of playing Dr. Maggie Pierce, Kelly McCreary has said farewell to Grey’s Anatomy.
The April 13 episode — a double hour with “Shadow of Your Love/Mama Who Bore Me” — brought Maggie’s arc to a crossroad after weeks of marital tension with husband Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) as the brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon found herself in a professional crisis: Stay and work on her marriage or accept the once-in-a-lifetime offer at the Heart Center of Chicago?
To help Maggie make her decision, Grey’s Anatomy invoked Maggie’s lineage. The half-sister to Meredith Grey shares a birth mother with Ellen Pompeo’s titular character, Ellis Grey (Kate Burton). The late world-famous surgeon has always loomed large over both of her now also world-famous surgeon daughters, and McCreary says Ellis’ role in Maggie’s life has been the North Star...

The stage adaptation of “Room,” one of the most anticipated new plays of the spring Broadway season, is postponed indefinitely. The show was scheduled to begin performances on April 3, 2023 at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Rehearsals have ceased as the operation has shut down as of Thursday, March 16 2023.
The news must be particularly devastating for lead Adrienne Warren. The Tony-winner (“Tina: The Tina Turner Musical”) was widely predicted to receive another nomination for her turn as Ma. The role won Brie Larson an Oscar for the movie adaptation. Warren sat in fourth place in the Lead Actress in a Play category in Gold Derby’s combined odds.
Unless the Tony Administration Committee rules that any of the spring contenders will compete in a category contrary to their billing, Warren’s absence means there are just six women contending for a nomination. That is the lowest number of contenders a race...

The Broadway production of Room has been postponed indefinitely.
The production, which was in rehearsals with Adrienne Warren as the lead, will not go forward following a “shortfall in capitalization” and the withdrawal of a lead producer, the production said Thursday. The production, which was scheduled to begin performances April 3 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, was shuttered as of Thursday.
“In the midst of our rehearsals we were informed by one of our lead producers that due to personal reasons, they did not intend to fulfill their obligations to the production. Since being notified, the rest of the producing team has exhausted all possible avenues to keep the show on track, but the narrow timeline and economic shortfall created by this series of events has proven to be insurmountable,” producer Hunter Arnold said in the press release. “We are incredibly disappointed not to be able to open this remarkable...

Since Grey’s Anatomy first premiered in 2005, it has aired 19 seasons, 406 episodes, and birthed 3 spinoffs. Naturally the show has had to adapt as cast members come and go throughout the years. This sometimes makes it hard to recall what exactly went on in season 1. Although who can forget Addison Montgomery (then Shepherd) saying the iconic line, “I’m Addison Shepherd … and you must be the woman who’s been screwing my husband.”
With every new intern class that Grey’s introduces viewers to, it always throws in a few Easter eggs to remind fans what made them fall in love with the show in the first place. However, it seems season 19 wanted to take this even further. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 launches a soft reboot that allows the series to ground itself in its season 1 roots. Mark Boal’s new Apple TV+ drama Echo 3 will put to the test whether viewers are willing to stick with their militaristic revenge stories if they come packaged with some nuance and characterization. Based on the Israeli format When Heroes Fly, Echo 3 has all the fetishistic shots of weapons and arbitrarily featured American flags one could ever want, and the body count rises steadily. But those things are accompanied by artier touches, whether it’s blades of grass swaying in the wind, attempts to delve superficially into the political realities of contemporary South America or just action scenes that unfold with a deliberate — right on the edge of “slow” — pace.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 18 finale of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.
The promo for the Season 18 finale of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy asked the question “Will she stay or go?” After a dramatic and emotional two-hour finale, we got our answer — Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is staying in Seattle’s Grey Sloan and not moving to Minnesota, at least for now.
But she is one of just handful of doctors still working at the hospital by the end of the finale, which marked the return of Jesse Williams’ Jackson and Sarah Drew’s April and, fittingly for being the series’ milestone 400th episode, featured a lot of flashbacks to the early seasons with the show’s original residents, Meredith, Christina, Izzie, Alex and George.

The two-part Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 finale shook up the Grey Sloan power structure more than any other of the medical drama’s episodes! Yes, these 399th and 400th installments of the ABC series — Episode 18, “Out for Blood,” and Episode 19, “You Are the Blood” — had enough promotions and resignations to keep the hospital Hr staff working overtime. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the two-part Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 finale, “Out for Blood” and “You Are the Blood.”] The two-parter starts with a classic Grey’s nightmare: Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) being tormented by nightmares of her mom, Ellis (Kate Burton), haranguing her in the ER. Suffice it to say, Mer has a rough morning, and she’s not the only one. Winston (Anthony Hill) is still hung up on his brother scamming both him and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) out of thousands of dollars, even though Maggie just wants him to drop it. The doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital are teaming up for reproductive justice. On May 19, Shonda Rhimes posted an Instagram video of the "Grey's Anatomy" cast spreading awareness for safe sex. Following the leaked Supreme Court draft threatening to upend Roe v. Wade, countless celebrities are using their platforms to stand up for reproductive rights, so of course our favorite onscreen doctors had to get in on the important conversation. In a partnership with Bedsider, an online birth-control support network for women between the ages of 18 and 29, the familiar faces spliced their advice about effective contraception. Online health clinics are vital in a time when reproductive rights could vary greatly by state.
Together, Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Kim Raver, Kelly McCreary, Caterina Scorsone, Kevin McKidd, and Kate Burton amplified Bedsider's mission and made it clear that knowing your rights can be just as important as fighting for them.

Exclusive: Japril will be back on Grey’s Anatomy. Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew are set to reprise their roles as Jackson and April in the Season 18 finale of the ABC medical drama, which airs May 26.
Williams departed Grey’s Anatomy last spring after 12 seasons. His character Jackson Avery’s exit was revealed in the May 6 episode, “Look Up Child,” which also featured Grey’s alumna Drew, who returned as April Kepner to help give Jackson a proper sendoff by reuniting one of the show’s most popular couples, “Japril.” Jackson visited his ex to tell her that he was moving to Boston to take over the family foundation. April agreed to follow him there so he can be close to their daughter, while dropping a bombshell of her own that she recently had separated from her husband — giving fans hope that Japril might be back on. They slowed things down for us and focused on the sister trio.
We also got a better insight into characters like Kai and Nick during Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 12. But what does our round table think about the hour?
Join Jasmin Pettie, Joshua Johnson, and Meaghan Frey as they discuss it.
Do you enjoy it when they slow things down like this and focus on a few characters outside the hospital?
Jasmin: It depends on the characters. If they're focusing on characters I love or find super interesting, I'm all for it. If they focus on characters, I don't care for or storylines I don't find interesting, then I find these kinds of episodes boring.
This episode was a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the dual storylines of Maggie reading the letter Zola found from Ellis and Winston looking after the kids and talking to Zola about her birth mother.

Did you enjoy an hour that focused on the sister trio?
They slowed things down for Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 12, focusing on Mer and Amelia's relationships in Minnesota with Nick and Kai. Meanwhile, a fever-ridden Maggie had dreams about Ellis after finding a letter.
And you guys, Kate Burton is such a masterclass, and she and Kelly McCreary were superb.
On the one hand, the tone of Maggie's storyline contrasted with all the sexy, romantic times that Amelia and Mer had in Minnesota. However, not only was there an undercurrent of parenthood that connected all the storylines, but Maggie's arc was long overdue.
It's truly a wonder that it took this long for the series to delve into Maggie's feelings about Ellis and learn more details about why Ellis gave her up. And on a show that loves to bring back ghosts from the past, it's shocking that it took...

And Maggie… poor Maggie had to ponder whether she could stand to read an entire letter from her late mother being as Ellis as ever Ellis was. How’d it all shake out? Read on; the answers are below…
