Brother Marquis, the rapper and longtime member of hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, has died at 58.
His death was announced on 2 Live Crew’s Instagram account on Monday night. The post did not indicate a cause of death or where the rapper died.
Founded in 1984 in Riverside, CA, 2 Live Crew found its most famous line-up after moving to Miami, where in 1986 Brother Marquis (aka Mark Ross) joined Christopher Wong Won (Fresh Kid Ice), Luther Campbell (Luke Skyywalker); and David Hobbs (Mr. Mixx).
That line-up would see the group’s greatest fame and impact in the late 1980s and early-mid 1990s, perhaps reaching a peak with the 1989 album As Nasty as They Wanna Be, which drew praise from fans and critics but condemnation from commentators and law enforcement for its sexually explicit language.
In 1990, a Florida undercover police officer attended a club performance, prompting misdemeanor obscenity charges to be filed against the group.

Mark Ross, a rapper better known by his stage name Brother Marquis and a member of the influential and often controversial Miami hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, has died. He was 58.
The official 2 Live Crew Instagram account confirmed Ross’ death on Monday night, and the group’s longtime manager, DJ Debo, also confirmed the news to People Magazine. No details or cause of death were provided.
Alongside Luke Skyywalker (Luther Campbell), Fresh Kid Ice (Christopher Wong Won) and Mr. Mixx (David Hobbs), Ross formed the most well-known lineup of 2 Live Crew who broke out of the Florida rap scene to achieve national success in the 1980s and ’90s with a string of gold albums and became notorious for their overtly sexual songs such as “Me So Horny,” “We Want Some Pussy!,” “Throw the Dick,” and “Pop That Coochie.”

Brother Marquis, a member of the hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, has died at the age of 58.
2 Live Crew’s manager confirmed Brother Marquis’ death to TMZ on Monday, June 3rd. The cause of his death appears to be the result of natural causes, but details were not immediately known.
Born Mark Ross on April 4th, 1966, Marquis began rapping in his teenage years, eventually landing on the radar of 2 Live Crew’s Mr. Mixx in the ‘80s for his rap battle skills. After a position in the group opened, Mr. Mixx offered it to Marquis, who flew to Florida to join.
From there, the group — consisting of Mr. Mixx, Marquis, Fresh Kid Ice, and Uncle Luke (then known as Luke Skyywalker) — leaned into their humanistic sensibilities, and started gaining notoriety for raunchy, sexual songs, like “We Want Some Pussy” and “Throw the ‘D.’”

Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is getting as docuseries as he wanna be. Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is among the producers behind “Coach Luke,” which chronicles the one-time 2 Live Crew frontman as he became a entrepreneur and the head coach of the Edison Senior High School football team in Miami. Mandon Lovett directs the docuseries, which is exec produced by Smac Entertainment’s Constance Schwartz-Morini, Michael Strahan and FredAnthony Smith; Swirl Films’ Eric Tomosunas and Nikki Byles; and Brian Sher and Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. No outlet is yet attached.
Campbell, of course, is remembered for the popular late 1980s/early 1990s rap group 2 Live Crew — which managed to even hit the Billboard charts with song titles that Casey Kasem wouldn’t say out loud on his top 40 countdown. But 2 Live Crew’s lasting impact was its First Amendment fights, via Campbell and the group’s obscenity trials and Supreme Court parody cases.

Since hip-hop's inception, the culture has been a male-dominated space. Women have had to fight for their right to exist alongside their male peers, exercise autonomy over their bodies, and rap without restrictions. It's no secret that the culture of hip-hop is inherently fueled by misogyny and patriarchy; female rappers have been ostracized, while their male counterparts stand to gain. But in recent years, an influx of women rappers have emerged, ushering in a resurgence of sexually explicit lyrics that have jolted mainstream music, social media, and even politics. Yes, women in music have always talked about their sexual prowess; women rappers are simply continuing a long and strong tradition of Black women loudly reclaiming their own sexuality, most notably under the umbrella of "pussy rap."

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there was Star Wars… and only Star Wars. Oh, you could buy a novelization of George Lucas’ cosmic saga of good and evil, as well as a Marvel Comics’ adaptation of the film that kept the post-Death Star story going in… some very singular ways. (Pour one out for the giant green space-rabbit Jaxxon T. Tumperakki.) Eventually, there were toys — so, so many toys — as well as soundtrack albums, coffee-table books of concept art, and loads of other merchandise. But...

Mark Hamill is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" films, but even if you add up all of that character's screen time, the Jedi role is tiny compared to his voice work as the Joker in the DC/Warner Bros. Animation TV series and films. He's been cackling in the scariest (and hands-down best) way since 1992 when he was cast in the role for the Emmy Award-winning animated series "Batman: The Animated Series," which was created by Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski.
Since that time, we've heard him mess with Batman as the Clown Prince of Crime in animated films, "Superman: The Animated Series," "The New Batman Adventures," "Static Shock," "Birds of Prey," "Justice League Action," and so many others. Like the late, great Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman, Hamill has become synonymous with the role. So it's surprising to hear that Hamill almost said no...

The following article contains spoilers for the 1983 film "Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi."
Usually, I wouldn't put a spoiler warning about a film from 1983, but I have recently discovered people who have never seen the original three "Star Wars" films. Worrying about spoilers is a huge part of the social media era, whether it's people getting mad about plot points being posted the second a midnight film premiere lets out or someone mentioning the ending of a film from decades ago. However, it's not a new problem; it's just more widespread.
"Star Wars" is one of those franchises that is very secretive by design. There are huge plot twists, redefined relationships, big reveals, and character shifts that the filmmakers want you to experience while watching the film. I wholeheartedly agree as someone who had a certain brother/sister relationship from this franchise spoiled on the playground.

There are times when you look back at pop culture phenomena and can’t resist the urge to ask: Can you believe this actually happened? Tackling a notorious fiasco in one of the galaxy’s most popular franchises, Jeremy Coon and Steve Kozak’s amusing and exhaustive documentary ”A Disturbance in the Force” unpacks 1978’s “Star Wars Holiday Special.”
You don’t have to be an obsessive “Star Wars” fan to enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at how the special — which premiered Nov. 17, 1978 on CBS, and has never been re-run on any broadcast or cable outlet — came to exist. To be sure, the fans will appreciate it a lot more than casual viewers. But it’s also an irresistible hoot for anyone with fond memories of star-studded 1970s musical/variety TV specials — a specific type of highly popular general audience entertainment that, truth to tell, very often showcased more campy excess...

"The Mandalorian" is back with a third season on Disney+ after a two-year wait. One of the central storylines this season features Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) traveling to the ruined Mandalore to bathe in the Living Waters under the Mines of Mandalore. Why does he have to do this? Din has done something a certain sect of Mandalorians isn't supposed to; he has removed his helmet in front of others. This makes him an apostate to his group, though other Mandalorians like Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) scoff at him for doing so.
Din has removed his helmet a few times, most gut-wrenchingly when Grogu left with Luke Skywalker to continue his Jedi training. This helmet issue and the split within the Mandalorian ranks (both now and during their history) have been central themes of the show. Whether it will change or not will depend on where the story goes, what he learns while on Mandalore,...

This Scream 6 article contains spoilers.
Scream 6 has a killer opening sequence. Right from the jump, this slasher saga changes formula for the second time in a row under Radio Silence’s stewardship. In 2022, this meant “opening kill” victim Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) getting to live despite being stabbed a horrifying seven times (a twist that audiences and Paramount marketers are no doubt even more thankful about now).
In the 2023 iteration, filmmakers pivot the game again by staging an effective murder sequence that plays like a fiddle on the fears of any single person who’s used a dating app in the big city. Poor Laura (Samara Weaving) is a film studies professor who specializes in slasher movies, but when her adorkable Tinder date lures her from the safety of an anonymous cocktail bar into a barren alleyway, she learns her final lesson in the genre.
It’s brutal yet almost perfunctory.

(Welcome to The Movies That Made "Star Wars," a series where we explore the films and television properties that inspired George Lucas' iconic universe. In this edition: Peter Bogdonavich's masterpiece "Paper Moon.")
When you think of "The Mandalorian," the primary cinematic influence that comes to mind might be the Japanese classic series "Lone Wolf and Cub." The relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu is very reminiscent — at least in early seasons — of Itto Ogami and his toddler son Daigoro. The choice given to Grogu by Luke Skywalker, where he must choose between the way of the Jedi and the way of the Mandalorians, is a shot-for-shot recreation of the choice Ogami gives Daigoro in the films. He's to choose between a ball or the sword in "Lone Wolf and Cub," rather than a beskar shirt or a lightsaber. We talked about the influences of "Lone Wolf and Club" in a previous installment,...

On Nov. 17, 1978, Princess Leia sang these lyrics to the melody of John Williams’ Star Wars theme: “We celebrate a day of peace/A day of harmony/A day of joy we can all share/Together joyously.” It’s a rough moment in Star Wars history, and certainly, even the children of 1978 were uneasy about putting words to that iconic music. Chewbacca was wearing a red robe, Luke Skywalker had a haircut that didn’t make him seem like Luke at all, and Han Solo seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else. This was the ending of the Star Wars Holiday Special, a bizarre television event that was aired only once. And, when Star Wars blossomed into a lasting and serious cultural phenomenon, George Lucas tried to make it seem like it had never happened.

Mark Hamill has been voicing the role of The Joker for DC/Warner Bros. for over three decades. We may know him as Luke Skywalker from "Star Wars," but that maniacal laugh is unmistakable. Hamill's first Joker performance was in "Batman: The Animated Series" in 1992, and he's continued through "Mask of the Phantasm," "New Batman Adventures," "Superman: The Animated Series," "Batman Beyond," "Justice League," and "Justice League Unlimited." I heard him do it once in person, and I will freely admit it freaked me out ... in the best way.
It's the laugh that does it. There is something so unhinged yet so controlled about it, with such a variety of styles. Back in 1997, Hamill spoke about doing the Joker laugh in an interview with Animation World Magazine. He talked about how the laughing styles became a sort of vocabulary of emotions for the Clown Prince of Crime.

In a move that should light the internet ablaze, everyone's favorite Daddy, Pedro Pascal, just appeared on the popular talk show Hot Ones to eat spicy wings and talk about the incredible year he's having starring thanks to "The Last of Us" and "The Mandalorian." Early on in the interview (before the level of spice became too intense to bear), Pascal goes into detail about working with the intricate puppetry that helps to bring his newly adopted son, Grogu, to life.
When "The Empire Strikes Back" was filming, so much was riding on the Yoda puppet and Frank Oz to pull off the impossible task of creating a convincing performance. If Yoda failed to connect with audiences as the reclusive Jedi Master tasked with training Luke, the entire movie would've fallen apart right then and there. The Mandalorian sure knows how to leave us wanting more!
The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2 ended on an enormous cliffhanger, and I need to see what happens next.
The focus on Mandalore throughout the first few episodes of The Mandalorian Season 3 has been a welcome change of pace.
Din's journey thus far has been one of redemption, and he's willing to go to any lengths to get that feeling of fulfillment.
Adding Bo-Katan into the mix as someone who was supposed to rule but lost all of her power added a different viewpoint to the narrative.
Bo-Katan was very much against Din at the end of The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 1 and seemed intent on making sure he would never return again when she thought he was operating his ship back to her castle.
Katie Sackhoff is a phenomenal actress, and witnessing some of the events from Bo-Katan's view helped elevate the storytelling.

“The Mines of Mandalore” may be the most consequential episode of The Mandalorian released yet. No one expected Din and Grogu would get to the planet of the Mandalorians so soon after last week’s side quests, but season 3 decides to deliver the goods in its second episode, including a moment fans have been waiting for since Din received his new mission in The Book of Boba Fett.
Navigating Mandalore’s wastelands is anything but an easy task for our heroes, as they soon discover many dangers await them in what remains of Sundari. Along the way, the duo encounters many easter eggs and references to other parts of the Star Wars universe. Here are all the callbacks we spotted in “The Mines of Mandalore”…

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "The Mandalorian."
Last week, the internet absolutely lost its mind trying to decide how much time Grogu spent training with Jedi master, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Though nowhere near as controversial as the pro-Grogu vs anti-Grogu debate, it's definitely up there as one of the most hotly contested topics that "The Mandalorian" has sparked. It will no doubt rage on as the third season continues, especially as we get to see the former Jedi-in-training put his newly expanded skillset to use.
Once upon a time, Grogu's connection to the force was only used in dire circumstances... like force-choking potential enemies and stealing cookies! Now the little guy is capable of so much more: like stealing candy, spinning desk chairs, and escaping mortal danger in the depths of Mandalore. In "The Mandalorian," the evolution of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) from a by-the-book bounty hunter religiously devoted to his creed to a deeply protective adoptive father of the most sought-after Force-sensitive child in the galaxy is staggering. Din's lone-wolf lifestyle leaves little space for full-time parenting, but his endearingly genuine bond with Grogu over the course of time has led to Din assuming the role of a patient, loving father.
I mean, Din loves Grogu to the point that he is ready to part ways with the kid just so that he can be with his own kind, which fuels the events of the season 2 finale where Grogu departs with Luke Skywalker for Jedi training purposes. Although Din tries to ease back into his usual lone shenanigans, the man clearly misses Grogu and is visibly...

The season 3 premiere episode of "The Mandalorian" re-introduces warrior Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) back into the "Star Wars" fray, catching up with the dejected leader on the planet Kalevala where her sister, Satine, was born. Kalevala was a special place for Bo-Katan and all of House Kryze when they and the other Mandalorians were still thriving, before the Great Purge at the hands of the Galactic Empire.
When Din Djarin and Grogu visit Bo-Katan to ask for assistance in finding the Living Waters of Mandalore, she treats the castle on Kalevala as a source of reflection and pain, in much the same way that Darth Vader uses his Fortress on Mustafar to fuel his anger after his defeat by Obi-Wan Kenobi. A thrilling, risk-laden adventure has already begun with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu making their way to the ruins of a seemingly-cursed planet in "The Mines of Mandalore," the latest episode in the third season of the "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian." The season premiere saw Din embark on a series of video game fetch quests to be able to reach his goal: Bathing in the Living Waters beneath the mines of Mandalore to atone for the sin of straying from "the way."
The personal, almost-spiritual nature of this quest puts Mando in a unique position, and he is acutely aware of the dangers of such a reckless mission. By now, "Star Wars" fans have grown accustomed to seeing characters encounter fearsome creatures in the wild. Sometimes they're humanoid creatures, like the Tusken Raider who attacks Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars: A New Hope." Sometimes they're more like the mythical Yeti or Abominable Snowman, as we see with the Wampa that drags Luke back to its ice cave in "The Empire Strikes Back." Sometimes they're even domesticated, like the dungeon-dwelling Rancor that almost makes a meal out of Luke in "Return of the Jedi."
"The Mandalorian" has continued the long-held franchise tradition of having a protagonist — in this case, Din Djarin, voiced by Pedro Pascal — survive multiple run-ins with hostile space creatures. One of Din's earliest adventures saw him and his pint-sized companion, Grogu (then known only as the Child), taking on a big,...

Lightsabers have been a staple of the "Star Wars" franchise since Luke Skywalker saw one for the first time in the Tatooine cave of Obi-Wan Kenobi in "A New Hope." Over the decades, we've learned about the different styles of lightsabers, the Kyber crystals needed to create them, what the different colors might mean, and how to wield them. The Darksaber is a bit different than the rest, however. It was created by Tarre Vizsla a thousand years before "The Mandalorian" takes place. Tarre was the first to be both a Mandalorian and a Jedi, despite the fact that those two groups have a less-than-friendly history. The Jedi held it in their Temple until the Mandalorians freed it. Now their lore says the wielder of the Darksaber has the right to rule Mandalore, but only if they win it through combat.

Over the course of six films and three decades, Scream has quietly established itself as the sturdiest and most reliable of today’s horror franchises. It’s never had to reboot itself. It’s never had to awkwardly sweep its unloved sequels under the rug. Some instalments have certainly been better than others, but the series has only ever slightly stumbled over the years – it’s never dramatically self-combusted. That’s partly because the Scream formula is ideally tailored for endless repetition. All you need is a fresh batch of teenagers and a dose of self-awareness and, voilà, you’ve got yourself a Scream movie.
Scream VI, really, only ever achieves the bare minimum of those requirements. Yet it’s both wholly satisfying and ridiculously fun. Opting for a location switch à la Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, it sees the four core survivors of the last...

When Luke Skywalker took Grogu as his student in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, some fans feared the worst for the little green guy. Did Grogu joining Luke’s new Jedi academy mean he was at the temple when Ben Solo turned to the dark side and destroyed the school along with most of its students? Had the future master of the Knights of Ren killed Grogu before the start of the Sequel Trilogy?
Two years later, we’re a little less concerned for Grogu’s future in the Sequel era. Having left Luke’s academy in The Book of Boba Fett to rejoin Mando, it seems Grogu’s Jedi days will have long been over by the time Ben becomes Kylo Ren decades later. Who doesn't love a good action movie? The explosions, car chases, shootouts, special effects, and memorable one-liners! There's so much fun to be had from watching an action flick that holds nothing back. Budgets increased over the years, and the amount of mayhem depicted on the silver screen has increased at a commensurate rate. Stunts are more daring, and advancements in CGI only continue to amplify the destruction and carnage.
The overall popularity of action movies means that the genre will never go out of fashion. However, an interesting trend runs alongside the action genre -- and has for decades now: movies that blatantly rip them off. And no, I'm not talking about Hollywood's constant attempts to cash in on a blockbuster. I'm specifically referring to straight-up rip-offs that, despite "borrowing" more than a few elements from an action flick, also push the material in a weird new direction, often on shoestring budgets.

While The Mandalorian has already delivered so many adorable Grogu moments in season 3, the first episode, “The Apostate,” has also done a huge disservice to his story. The season 2 finale saw Grogu leave his adopted father to train with Luke Skywalker in an emotional cliffhanger, but the first episode of season 3 almost acts like this never happened.
Anyone who watched The Book of Boba Fett knows that Grogu abandoned his Jedi training in favor of exploring the galaxy with his space dad, but the many people who didn’t watch The Mandalorian spinoff series were left confused as to why and how the two got back together. We’ve argued many times that resolving The Mandalorian‘s most important conflict to date on another character’s show was a mistake, but instead of learning from...

Jenna Ortega has said she was “devastated” not to return to You in its fourth season.
The 20-year-old actor was unable to appear in the latest episodes of the hit Netflix serial killer drama due to her starring role in Wednesday.
In season two of You, released in 2019, Ortega played Ellie Alves, the 15-year-old sister of Delilah (Carmela Zumbado).
Series showrunner Sera Gamble recently revealed that she had wanted Ortega to return in season four, but the actor’s commitment to Wednesday posed too many scheduling problems.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega described her disappointment at being unable to reprise her You role.
“I was devastated,” she said. “It was easily one of my favorite sets that I’ve ever, ever been on. I was so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday.

One thing I love about "Star Trek" as a franchise is that it isn't afraid to let its actors age. For all the talk of advancing technology that opens up a new world of possibility, its heroes don't seem particularly interested in immortality. Instead, the original cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" reappears on "Star Trek: Picard" looking a bit older and wiser, even, hilariously, if they're non-human entities. The show itself is largely about age, retrospect, and the urge to have a do-over of one's most regretful moments, so it's only fitting that it let its performers gracefully but truthfully portray the passage of time.
In a few situations, though, it makes sense for "Star Trek: Picard" to go the "Star Wars" route, which is to say, digitally de-age its beloved cast for flashback purposes. In this case, episode three of the final season of "Star Trek: Picard...

Willem Dafoe reportedly made Emma Stone slap him 20 times on the set of And.
Both actors are set to appear in two new movies, Poor Things and And by The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos.
Poor Things is based on the 1992 novel of the same name. It’s about the story of a woman whose brain is replaced by that of her unborn child.
On the other hand, And centres around the story Belle Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist.

“Dafoe insisted that the move would look more genuine if he were actually being slapped, and then took the (staged) blow some 20 times,” wrote Susan Dominus in the piece.

The premiere came two years after the season two finale, which stunned Star Wars fans with the shock return of one of the franchise’s major characters, Luke Skywalker, played by a digitally de-aged Mark Hamill.

This article contains spoilers for the season 3 premiere of "The Mandalorian."
Chances are, observant fans will be able to find echoes of previous franchise installments hidden within nearly any modern "Star Wars" movie or show. "The Mandalorian" might represent the platonic ideal of this trend, especially since the recent season 3 premiere already seems to be gearing up for plenty of deep cuts, unexpected connections, and a general appreciation of all the things fans love about this series. But some parallels are a little more welcome than others, to say the least. And if one particular subplot introduced in "The Apostate," the season 3 opener, pans out the way it appears it might, well, fans are likely to receive some unwelcome flashbacks to one of the most maligned entries in the entire "Star Wars" canon.
So how much is too much when it comes to poetry and rhymes? Well, the line's probably...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Mandalorian” Season 3, Episode 1, “Chapter 17 – The Apostate.”]
Early in “The Mandalorian” Season 3 premiere, Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) marvels at the blue and white light of hyperspace. His tiny jaw drops. His oval eyes widen, and when he spots giant shadows flying alongside his comparably petite cruiser, he reaches out his three-fingered hand and holds it to the thin glass separating him from the cosmos. Perhaps he’s trying to feel the obscured entities with his budding powers… or maybe he’s just a bit overwhelmed by the vast universe all around him. So like any toddler overcome with emotions, he crawls into the lap of his father. And Daddy Din holds him snugly, as the two travelers doze off under the stars.
Din (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu’s relationship remains the guiding force of “The Mandalorian” in Season 3, as it should. Having fully embraced the father/son dynamic — during a different show,...

Spoilers follow for "The Bad Batch" Season 2 Episode 11 - "Metamorphosis."
As the Omega (Michelle Ang) and the Bad Batch (Dee Bradley Baker) comes back into the civilized galaxy after being stranded for the last two episodes, Cid tips them off about a downed ship that might have a great payoff if they salvage the cargo.
Angry with Cid for not retrieving them, they're reluctant to take the gig. But when she offers to split the proceeds with them 50/50, it's enough for them to take the job, though they make rumblings that it might be their last for Cid. They investigate the crash site and find an alien creature there. That was the cargo. Unfortunately, it's eaten the crew. Tech and Omega investigate the ship for more information while Wrecker and Hunter try to stop the beast, though their blasters are ineffective against it. Things go from bad to worse when...

When Luke Skywalker showed up in the season two finale of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, it was perhaps the biggest bombshell the series had ever dropped. It was also, arguably, a sign that the series might have lost its way. For one thing, it separated Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu with no obvious way to bring them back together. More drastically, it seemed to pull both characters closer to the Skywalker-centric core of the Star Wars universe, when previously they’d seemed content enough exploring their own little corner of the galaxy.
The mild surprise of season three, then, is how little actually seems to have changed. Though the Din and Grogu’s new quest suggests more dramatic or more unpredictable twists could be on the horizon, in the first two episodes sent to critics, of an eight-episode season, The Mandalorian‘s core pleasures remain the same — namely, the...

Star Wars fans are issuing a warning to more casual viewers intending to watch The Mandalorian season three.
The spin-off returns on Wednesday (1 March) having last aired on Disney Plus in December 2020.
In the acclaimed season finale, Mando (Pedro Pascal) said his goodbyes to Grogu – also known unofficially as Baby Yoda – after handing him over to none other than Luke Skywalker, who, in a surprise twist, was played by a digitally de-aged Mark Hamill.
It was a moving scene, and one that ended a two-season arc depicting an unlikely friendship between the pair.
However, those Mandalorian fans who haven’t watched another Star Wars spin-off may be left quite confused upon sitting down to watch the premiere episode.
It will pick up following the events ofThe Book of Boba Fett, which reunited Mando and Grogu, meaning the events of The Mandalorian’s season two finale will have no pay-off for...

This Post Contains spoilers for this week’s episode of The Mandalorian, “The Apostate.”
A strange thing happens at the start of The Mandalorian Season Three. We open, of course, with a montage of events from previous seasons that will be relevant to what’s about to happen. So we are reminded of Ig-11’s sacrifice in the Season One finale, Greef Karga discussing the gentrification of Nevarro, and the purge of Mandalore. We also get a brief snippet of “The Return of the Mandalorian,” an episode of Book of...

"The Mandalorian" has finally returned with its third season after a lengthy wait, and the season premiere dives right into the heart of the action without missing a beat. Although a handy pre-episode recap brings the audience up to speed about the key highlights of season 2, those who skipped "The Book of Boba Fett" will be visibly confused with Grogu's reunion with our beloved bounty hunter, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). There is an undercurrent of well-meaning self-assurance in the latest season premiere, and for good reason, as the first episode, titled "The Apostate," plays out every beat that is quintessential "Star Wars," and manages to have a gala time with it. While employing every "Star Wars" cliché under the sun in a highly-anticipated show's season premiere might seem like a recipe for disaster, episode director Rick Famuyiwa succeeds in keeping things fresh and thrilling in a way that works in...

The mostly episodic “The Mandalorian” had, to this point, left it very vague how much time had passed for the adventures of Grogu and Din Djarin. But ahead of the show’s highly anticipated Season 3 premiere, creator Jon Favreau has provided some clarity on the show’s timeline — in a way that maybe raises more questions than it does answers.
In an interview for the podcast “Skytalkers” with his fellow executive producers Dave Filoni and Rick Famuyiwa as well as series star Katee Sackhoff, Favreau spoke about how long a time is covered in the first two seasons, which last aired in 2019 and 2020. According to Favreau, those two seasons — which begin five years after the events of the the third “Star Wars” movie “Return of the Jedi” — take place over “many years,” but did not clarify exactly how long a period that is.
Furthermore, he also claimed that two years...
