Istanbul, June 11 (Ians) Star striker Erling Haaland believes Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League triumph cemented Pep Guardiolas reputation as one of the great managers and he described City boss as the ‘best coach in world football’.
With a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan, thanks to Rodrigo’s strike midway through the second half, City were crowned European champions for the first time on Saturday night and they also secured the Treble, with Guardiola becoming the first men’s manager in history to achieve the feat on more than one occasion.
Guardiola has won 14 major trophies since joining the club in 2016. A collection comprising five Premier League titles, two Fa Cups, four League Cups, one Champions League and two Community Shields.
“It’s such a big game, the pressure is unbelievable, you all know that. To work with Pep is really special. We have a good relationship and he’s helped me a lot.

London, May 4 (Ians) Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke the Premier League scoring record in a single season on Wednesday in his side’s 3-0 win at home to West Ham United, which takes them back to the top of the Premier League.
Haaland scored his 35th league goal of the campaign to beat the record, jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, after a pass from Jack Grealish put his side 2-0 ahead in the 70th minute of the game. City needed to win to go back to the top after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
West Ham offered stern resistance in a close first half, but coach David Moyes will have been disappointed at the defenders that allowed a fit-again Nathan Ake to nod City ahead in the 50th minute from a Riyad Mahrez cross, reports Xinhua.

With every passing year, the release of FIFA feels more and more like an event. Soccer’s real-life stars line up to talk about their in-game rating, to inspect their Fut cards and to emphasize their love of the brand. All the time, the line is being blurred between the sport we enact on our screens, and the real sport itself.
In FIFA 18, that’s never more evident than in the return of The Journey, the story of eighteen-year-old sensation Alex Hunter, now in his second season of professional football. Over the course of six chapters, EA unrolls the red carpet for its famous supporting cast who are faithfully motion-captured for their starring bow. From Ronaldo to Muller to Griezmann and a certain Gunners legend, the A-listers join Alex on a globetrotting adventure that feels like a big high-five to soccer itself.

It was the look that launched a thousand memes. "Game of Thrones" Season 6, Episode 4, had several memorable moments, including the reunion of two Stark kids. But it was the first meeting of two characters that really set the Internet ablaze, and it all started when Brienne the Beauty rode to Castle Black, and Tormund Giantsbane -- who often boasted of bedding a she-bear -- got a look at his new crush:

Watford star Odion Ighalo has hinted that he would find it very difficult to resist a transfer to Manchester if they were to submit a bid, according to reports.
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker is a boyhood fan of the Red Devils and has caught the attention of several top clubs following his impressive form in the Premier League.
No official bid has been submitted just yet, but United will surely be hoping to bolster a forward line that has found goals hard to come by throughout the first half of the season.
Ighalo said: “I don’t think I will be moving but I’m not sure I’d say no if United called. They were my team growing up. I loved watching Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke on TV.
“They were my idols and playing at Old Trafford has always been a dream.”

Newcastle United supporters adore their No 9s. Players such as Hughie Gallagher, Jackie Milburn, Wyn Davies, Malcolm MacDonald, Andy Cole and, of course, Alan Shearer have adorned the iconic black-and-white jersey down the years, receiving the affection of the St James’ Park crowd as they hammered in goal upon goal.
To the supporters on the terraces at St James’ Park the player who has been given the responsibility of wearing the No 9 out on the field is not merely parading around in just another shirt – he is carrying the hopes and dreams of the Toon faithful.
For some, the number has proved a burden that has lain heavy on their back. Obafemi Martins, for example, simply could not live up to the huge weight of expectation that comes with the No 9 shirt on Tyneside.
But what about Papiss Cisse? The 30-year-old Senegalese international arrived at Newcastle...

Newcastle United are undoubtedly a big club, even in spite of their recent inability to win, well, pretty much anything of note.
Naturally, playing at a big club brings with it some serious pressure, especially for younger players arriving with hefty price tags around their still tender necks. Another case where players have seemed to struggle at St James’ Park is upon coming in from abroad, usually where they’ve been playing in front of significantly inferior crowds at an arguably inferior standard. After all, the Premier League has been — and often still is — regarded as the elite platform in world football.
A proud club with a strong tradition of bringing through (and bringing in) great talent, put simply, Newcastle expects. With the likes of Alan Shearer, Andy Cole and Gary Speed all gracing the club within the last couple of decades — real warriors and fantastic...

Great football teams would be nothing without partnerships: Nottingham Forest and Derby had Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, England had Shearer and Sheringham and Manchester United had Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke. These are the pairings on which success was built, and it seems that working within football – with its brotherly bonds and comradeship in battle – is the perfect environment to encourage even closer relationships than working ones.
Sometimes players click together on the pitch in a way that makes them two perfect halves of one identity – like England’s Sas – and others the pair get closer still, their friendships emerging beyond the limits of shared dressing rooms and celebratory high fives.
More often than not, these bromances are a thing of beauty, and in most cases they are hugely successful on the pitch, which is why commentators and fans fall over themselves...

Over the years, players and managers alike have been called crazy for signing for Newcastle United, particularly when the club’s star wasn’t in the ascendancy – as if earning your wages at a massive club with major support and huge potential is anything other than an appealing opportunity – and it seems some of those accusations were well placed and wholly justified.
They say that it takes a few loose screws to be a goalkeeper, but on reflection that’s probably just the attempted deflection techniques of even more unhinged outfield players with their own issues. After all, given how many players are legitimately labelled “crazy” (and not in the actual medical manner,) it seems somewhat unfair to say it’s just the custodians who need to be kept an eye on.

The stars came out in force at St. James’ Park last night as almost 51,000 fans paid tribute to one of Newcastle United’s loyalist servants.
Some of the biggest celebrities in the Magpies’ history turned out for Steve Harper’s testimonial, and faced an AC Milan side packed with legends of their own.
Celebrated names such as Alan Shearer, Faustino Asprilla and David Ginola all donned the black and white shirt one more time to mark 20 years of service from the goalkeeper.
And the Italians weren’t short of household names themselves, with Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio all featuring on an emotional night on Tyneside.
The game itself, which ended goalless, was settled by a penalty shootout that saw the Rossoneri’s old boys triumph. But the outcome was of little importance on a evening that saw all proceeds handed to local charities.

Six years ago Fernando Torres landed in England as a highly-rated £20 million striker off the back of scoring regularly for Atlético Madrid for five successive seasons in La Liga.
24 months earlier Rafa Benítez had guided the Reds to a surprise Champions League victory, defeating AC Milan on penalties in the final, but had failed to build on this success in the league.
At the end of the 2006-07 season Liverpool had finished 3rd in the Premier League but some 21 points behind champions Manchester United.

Well, here we go again. Silly season is almost upon us. The new television deal struck by the Premier League with BskyB and British Telecom is worth a barely believable £3.018 Billion over the next three seasons. An incredible 70% increase on the current deal.
Added into the mix, Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho are newly installed head coaches at perennial heavy spenders – Man City and Chelsea respectively. Both bosses will want to put a personal stamp on their respective squads but perhaps the most intriguing events will unfold at Old Trafford where the post Sir Alex Ferguson era begins.
Much has been speculated regarding who the current Premier League champions are going to sign, with a plethora of midfielders and a select few defenders linked in recent months. Since the announcement of David Moyes, it has been widely assumed that Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines would follow suit from the Toffees.

As we approach the business end of the season Sir Alex Ferguson and his team are once again hunting for a historical treble season. With United’s closest rivals seemingly too distracted by in-house bickering it looks in all likelihood that come May the premier league crown will reside in the already cramped trophy cabinet of Old Trafford. And with a slender away goal advantage against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champion’s League, this United team could go all the way to righting the wrongs of the previous Wembley Champion’s League final against Barcelona in 2011.
With this in mind, it’s only fair that we decide whether the current squad is better than the triumphant ’99 squad of Schmeichel, Keane and Beckham et al. Ferguson himself said as much recently, so here are five reasons why WhatCulture! thinks he’s right.

Things that spring to mind when you think about Newcastle: Newcastle Brown Ale, the Tyne Bridge, Hadrian’s Wall and Geordie Shore. As for football? Well, without a major honour since 1969, it’s no real surprise they have been stuck in a rut for decades. Though don’t let that statistic fool you, as the Magpies have contested some of the greatest Premier League games in history, including the 4-3 loss to Liverpool or the incredible 4-4 draw with Arsenal.
And there have been highlights despite the lack of silverware: their days under Kevin Keegan put Newcastle back on the footballing map, and their Champions League antics under the late Sir Bobby Robson put them on the map across Europe. Who can forget Craig Bellamy’s 92nd minute winner against Feyenoord?
We forget they’ve had legends such as Jackie Milburn and Hughie Gallacher, or more recent, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

A 9ft bronze statue of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been unveiled outside Old Trafford, to celebrate his 26 years at the club.
The honour is the second of its kind bestowed upon the club’s most successful manager, a year after the North Stand of the stadium was renamed “The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand”.
Former United players who have contributed to Ferguson’s phenomenal haul of silverware down the years were present, with Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Edwin van der Sar, Peter Schmeichel and Gary and Phill Neville all in attendance, whilst David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and FIFA President Sepp Blatter sent pre-recorded messages.
Beckham, part of the famous 1999 Treble Winning United side, said:
