We’ve got a long wait ahead of us for season 13 of Doctor Who. The show already has a reputation for lengthy gaps between seasons and Coronavirus slamming the brakes on the British television industry means we’ll likely be waiting until mid to late 2021. Fortunately, it’s sounding like this year’s Christmas special, “Revolution of the Daleks” is still on track, as that’s already in post-production.
But Doctor Who fans will know that the show is far from limited to television screens. As such, this year’s big Doctor Who event, Time Lord Victorious, is getting a lot of attention. This will be an epic story involving three Doctors: the Eighth (Paul McGann), Ninth (Christopher Eccleston) and Tenth (David Tennant). The arc spans practically every form of media outside of TV, including novels, comics, audio dramas, video games and apparently, even escape rooms.

Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson have made their names with their impressions of the famous faces all around us - and now they're back to provide more familiar voices in ITV's new satirical, topical puppet show Newzoids.
But how is it different from the classic series Spitting Image? Who is the best political leader to impersonate? And why did Michael McIntyre freak out at his impression? Digital Spy sat down with Jon and Debra to find out the answers to all those questions and more...
So how is this not Spitting Image?
Jon: "It's got a 21st century feel to it. It's a different rack of characters which generates a different style of joke. It's faster, somehow. And it just sort of reflects the whole coalition, social media generation. Nowadays, the puppets have got more of a spikiness, more of an edgy exaggeration to them. And of course, the comedy...

It's been a whopping 30 years since Spitting Image first hit our screens on ITV in 1984. The satirical puppet show quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the 1980s and early 1990s.
I wasn't able to fully appreciate the series when it was first on TV. When I watched it in the early '90s as a child, I found it funny mainly because of the silly puppets, even if I didn't quite understand what was going on. But in retrospective viewings, it still holds up as a genuinely hilarious satire of politics, entertainment, sport and general UK culture of the era.
It's quite incredible to think that Spitting Image hasn't been on air since 1996. To put that into perspective, the Spice Girls had only just been unleashed, Tony Blair hadn't been elected yet, and Lorde had only just been born.

We met up with her to talk about how she's coping with fame, what her first conversation with Simon Cowell was like and her incredible duet with Nicole Scherzinger on the series final.
On life since winning The X Factor:

BBC Two’s The Science of Doctor Who was more of the former than the latter, but still an entertaining celebration of ideas…
Can you imagine Rufus Hound as a long line of disassociated atoms? Professor Brian Cox can. He can imagine lots of things: diagrams drawn from the perspective of a black hole (how does it hold the pen?), bits of card as “pieces of space-time”, and the concept of looping energy and matter around so that your future light cone touches your past light cone (I think I did that once in yoga).
Armed with just a candle, a blackboard, and a handful of TV’s most innocuous celebrities, Professor Cox set out to explore the science of Doctor Who. What, about the world of the Doctor, was really possible, and what was science-y bunkum? Could regeneration ever happen? Can something really be bigger on the inside?...

It’s going to be Time Lord overload for the next couple of months. In addition to the 50th-anniversary special “The Day of the Doctor” and the making-of docudrama “An Adventure in Space and Time,” the Doctor is going to be all over the BBC. From the BBC’s Doctor Who site:
BBC Two will broadcast a number of new commissions, focusing on telling the story behind the show. For one night only, Professor Brian Cox will take an audience of celebrity guests and members of the public on a journey into the wonderful universe of the Doctor, from the lecture hall of the Royal Institution of Great Britain (1x60mins). In just over two months, the BBC will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who with a one-off special, Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor, and the anticipation has naturally been buzzing for months around the special event.
The 75-minute episode will air on BBC One, BBC America, and around the world on November 23rd, and commemorating fifty years of what has grown to become a cultural landmark, as Steven Moffat describes it in the broadcaster’s full press release below.
As the programme draws ever clear, a new poster has been revealed for The Day of the Doctor, along with a slew of programming around the episode to celebrate the milestone.
The episode will be the penultimate to star the current Doctor, Matt Smith, who will be exiting the programme with the Christmas episode. Peter Capaldi was announced last month as his replacement, coming on board...

"Ooh sweet and juicy pears." "You might as well dunk your head in a bowl of sugar." "Coooooooooor!" Yup, you guessed it, John and Gregg are back with yet another series of MasterChef, full to the brim with shouting, innuendo and serious discussions about courgette flowers.
But do we still need MasterChef in a post-Bake Off world? Have Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood's cream buns and soggy bottoms made Gregg and John's buttery biscuit bases a thing of the past?
And has Gregg managed to take a break from browsing for young fillies on Twitter to get his gob in a chocolate pud?
MasterChef's secret weapon these days is its familiarity. John and Gregg's shout-offs about who should go home, the preposterous angry chefs in the professional kitchen round, the uplifting indie tunes for the final reveal, it's a bingo-style drinking game dream. And we know it's all...

Let's Dance for Sport Relief host Alex Jones has said that she is saddened by suggestions that Sir Bruce Forsyth is too old for Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the One Show presenter - who finished fifth in the 2011 series of Strictly - said that people should "bow down" to the 84-year-old light entertainment legend, rather than try to force him out.

The BBC has issued an apology to Eamonn Holmes about jokes concerning his weight on The Impressions Show. Holmes sent a letter of complaint to the broadcaster following a string of sketches about his eating habits on Jon Culshaw's comedy series. Culshaw's impersonation of the Belfast-born TV star included the character eating a sofa, a jockey and a vase of flowers as he used catchphrase "I was fierce hungry, so I was". A BBC spokesperson commented: "We guard the right to make a show that pokes fun at public figures and our aim was for the humour to be affectionate, celebrating the figures chosen." The BBC Radio 4 documentary The Doctor and Douglas was broadcast Friday morning.
The documentary is available worldwide on the BBC iPlayer for the next seven days.As a new generation of fans await the debut of the 11th incarnation of the Doctor, long-time fan Jon Culshaw travels back in time to look at the man who changed Doctor Who forever: Douglas Adams.
After years toiling for success as a writer, in 1978 Douglas' world turned upside down. Just weeks after the radio series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was commissioned, so was his first script for Doctor Who. The following year - just as Hitchhikers was taking off - he was offered the job as script editor, one of the most demanding jobs in television.
The scripts he wrote for Doctor Who - The Pirate Planet, City of Death and Shada - still stand as a benchmark for the series today.

Prison break
Jane Andrews
You know all those jokes about open prisons? Turns out they're all true. You can just walk out. Even if you're serving the final stretch of a 12-year prison sentence for murder.
Andrews, former personal assistant to the Duchess of York, became a guest of Her Majesty (insert lightly ironical joke here) when she killed her lover Thomas Cressman after he refused to marry her. She went on the run for three days before being arrested by police at a Premier Inn near the prison in Kent. They had been hot on her trail ever since they were called by a taxi driver who had recognised her. It looks like minicabs have just become the fourth emergency service.
