The ABC sitcom The Conners was renewed on May 2 for Season 7, which the network has announced will be the show's last.
That final season, which will wrap the series up with an abbreviated order of six episodes, will bring to a close a saga that began in 1988.
We first met the Conners that year on the first season of Roseanne, a long-running series on ABC that ran until 1997.
The series was created by the famous comedian Roseanne Barr, who also starred as a character named Roseanne.
More than 20 years later, Roseanne was revived, with the majority of the original cast, once again on ABC. The revival was a big ratings success that led to its immediate renewal for a second season.

Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter’s long-lost manuscript, The Silver Snarling Trumpet, has been set for publication. Out October 8th, the recently unearthed book will tell the band’s origin story.
The late Hunter — who co-wrote Grateful Dead songs like “Dark Star,” “Touch of Grey,” and “Box of Rain” — originally penned The Silver Snarling Trumpet: The Birth of the Grateful Dead — The Lost Manuscript of Robert Hunter in the early 1960s. At the time, he had just been introduced to Jerry Garcia and began chronicling the band’s early days in the Bay Area, including performances at Kepler’s Books and road trips through the countryside.

In 1973, Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia fulfilled a longtime dream when he formed the bluegrass supergroup known as Old & In the Way. For the rock & roller, circling back to his acoustic roots was more than just scratching a creative itch — it was a spiritual calling.
“It was something that was organic and fun,” Peter Rowan, singer, songwriter, and former Oitw guitarist, tells Rolling Stone. “And that evolved into playing [shows]. ‘Let’s take this outside.’”

Vampire Weekend have played around with a slightly “punky,” slightly “jammy”side project in their free time, band members Ezra Koenig, Chris Tomson, and Chris Baio told the New York Times.
According to Tomson, the extra-curriculars began as a way to blow off steam during the pandemic. “The world had stopped working and a lot of what we normally do was just not being done,” Tomson recalled. “There was something about just playing with no expectation — to just play with my two very close friends without an agenda.”

Baio added, “It’s very rare for people in a band of our size to be alone together. No engineer, no tour manager, nothing like that. It felt like being at the outset of the band again. And we did that for three years and change, whenever we were all in town.”

Essra Mohawk, who recorded a dozen albums and saw Cyndi Lauper’s cover of her “Change of Heart” hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, died on Dec. 11 at her home in Nashville from cancer. She was 75.
A dreamy singer who described herself as a flower child, Mohawk never quite broke through to stardom. But she carved out a long career nonetheless in a highly fertile music era, performing with Frank Zappa and Jerry Garcia, among others.
She was scheduled to perform at the original Woodstock festival, but her driver took a wrong turn on the way.
“We got there in time to see the last verse of the last song of the last act of the first night, and then the stage went dark before we got to it from the parking lot,” she recalled in a 2009 video interview.

Hollywood actor Jonah Hill was seen in Los Angeles with acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese recently. The actor and director were seen together leaving a Brentwood restaurant after dining together.
After leaving the restaurant, Martin, 80, walked directly to a private car and was driven away, reports Mirror.co.uk.
Jonah, 39, spent some time talking to a group of friends outside the restaurant before crossing the street and walking to his car. Jonah was wearing a white shirt under a yellow and purple long-sleeved flannel.
As per Mirror.co.uk, the shirt was tucked into olive coloured pants which were fastened with a brown belt. He finished his look off with white slip-on trainers and aviator-style glasses.
The ‘21 Jump Street’ star looked almost unrecognisable with a shaved head and full beard and moustache. Jonah underwent a dramatic weight loss over the past few years and recently hired a personal trainer and nutritionist.

Reigning chaos agent John Mayer has finally fulfilled an internet prophesy spawned nearly ten full years ago: he transitioned from Grateful Dead‘s “Dark Star” into “Your Body Is a Wonderland.” In 2015, the musician stepped into the Jerry Garcia role as Grateful Dead offshoot Dead and Company’s touring guitarist, and in the process inadvertently birthed the ultimate “What If” about the collision of their catalogs.

Santana comes across pretty well, if clearly in charge of his image, but Rudy Valdez’s film feels a bit like a Wikipedia entry with added pictures
For those only passingly interested in the subject, this resolutely adequate portrait of guitarist Carlos Santana is the cinematic equivalent of a well-written and factchecked Wikipedia page but with loads more pictures and film clips. Hardcore fans may feel better served by the deep dive into Santana’s childhood and youth in Mexico, followed by his breakthrough into the San Francisco psychedelic music scene, and then on to that career-making performance at Woodstock in 1969. Forgive me if you have heard this one before, but Santana supposedly dropped acid given to him by Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead, expecting he would have hours to come down before his band, named after him, had to go on and play. Instead, they were called on stage soon after.

Jann Wenner, who co-founded Rolling Stone magazine and also was a co-founder of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has been removed from the hall’s board of directors after making comments that were seen as disparaging toward Black and female musicians. He apologized within hours.
“Jann Wenner has been removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” the hall said Saturday, a day after Wenner’s comments were published in a New York Times interview.
Wenner created a firestorm doing publicity for his new book “The Masters,” which features interviews with musicians Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townshend and U2’s Bono — all white and male.

Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner has offered his apologies after saying that black and female musicians ‘aren’t articulate enough’ to be added to his book. The apology came on September 15 night, a few hours after the music writer was removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s board of directors.
In an interview with The New York Times — which was published online the night before, to promote his new book, ‘The Masters’; Wenner said he didn’t include interviews with Black and female musicians in his book because they aren’t “articulate” enough.
Following this, he issued a ‘wholehearted’ apology for his comments, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“In my interview with The New York Times, I made comments that diminished the contributions, genius, and impact of Black and women artists and I apologise wholeheartedly for those remarks,” he said in a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rolling Stone Founder Jann Wenner Apologizes For “Badly Chosen Words” About Black & Female Musicians
Just hours after he was removed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation board of directors, Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner issued an apology for saying he chose interviews with a pantheon of white male musicians who he dubs the “philosophers of rock” because Black and female musicians were not “articulate at that level.”
Late Saturday, the publisher of Wenner’s book Masters issued the following statement from Wenner: “In my interview with The New York Times I made comments that diminished the contributions, genius and impact of Black and women artists and I apologize wholeheartedly for those remarks.”
He continued, “The Masters is a collection of interviews I’ve done over the years that seemed to me to best represent an idea of rock ’n’ roll’s impact on my world; they were not meant to represent the whole of music and its diverse and important originators...

Controversial interview remarks by Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner have led to his removal from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation board of directors.
The board administrates the selections for the Hall of Fame museum. The vote to remove Wenner had just one dissenter, reportedly Bruce Springsteen manager Jon Landau.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s goal is “to promote Roll & Roll music as a cultural aspect of modern life and society.” It is separate from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. Wenner is a cofounder of the Foundation, which was started in 1983.

Jann Wenner, the publishing icon who co-founded Rolling Stone and led the magazine for five decades, has a new book out this month titled The Masters. In the Little Brown and Company release, Wenner revisits lengthy interviews conducted during his Rolling Stone days with a selection of rock titans including Bono, Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and Pete Townshend.
To promote The Masters, Wenner sat for a lengthy interview of his own with The New York Times’ David Marchese (a onetime online editor at Rolling Stone), during which he opened up on how he zeroed in on those particular rockers for the book, many of whom are or were close friends. The book does not include any interviews with Black or female musicians, and Wenner’s explanation as to why is now catching heat online.

To say Jann Wenner hasn’t always had the cleanest reputation would be an understatement, but it seems he’s still finding new ways to dig his own grave. The Rolling Stone co-founder spoke to The New York Times about his upcoming book The Masters, which compiles interviews with seven musicians who are all white men: Bono, Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, and Pete Townshend. Wenner justified the lack of diversity by arguing that Black and female artists “just didn’t articulate at the level” of their white male peers.
In the introduction to The Masters, Wenner notes that Black performers were not part of his “zeitgeist” — a stance he doubled-down on in the Times interview: “When I was referring to the zeitgeist, I was referring to Black performers, not to the female performers, Ok? Just to get that accurate,” he quipped.

“Carlos” has one of the best openings I’ve ever seen — or heard — in a music documentary. We hear Carlos Santana, waxing philosophical and wise (as he’s prone to do). Intercut with his words, at throbbing intervals of about 20 seconds (and at top volume), are the iconic organ-and-bass notes — Bom Bom!…Bom Bom! — that open “Oye Como Va,” the 1971 hit by Santana. I’ll confess that “Oye Como Va” is one of those classic-rock radio staples I feel like I’ve heard more times in my life than I ever need to. (Sort of like “Moondance” and “Tempted” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”) Yet “Carlos,” instead of assaulting you with the song, severs those four notes from it (Bom Bom!…Bom Bom!) and blows them up into a piece of pop art, like a Warhol sound painting. It asks us to hear the magic of what Carlos Santana...

Darkside are keeping the momentum of their 2021 reunion going with their upcoming Live at Spiral House EP, arriving this Friday, June 9th. The surprise announcement arrives today alongside a mini-documentary about the sessions.
The seven-track Live at Spiral House is billed as “a loose and playful collection of jams” that Darkside’s Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington — along with drummer and longtime collaborator Tlacael Esparza — recorded at Los Angeles’ Spiral House studio last summer.
“When we decided to get the band back together with Tlac, we knew we needed a space where we could explore what that meant,” Jaar says in a press release. “After a couple of months of rehearsals, we started inviting friends and family to the space and many of these recordings share the fun and cozy spirit of that time.”
Harrington adds: “I probably played every Jerry Garcia riff I know in every key over the course of Spiral House.

In development since 2016, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon finally has its world premiere this week at the Cannes Film Festival. While there will be much to discuss post-premiere, not to mention endless interviews in what will be a nearly year-long awards run, the director and cast have now given their first major interview about the David Grann adaptation with Deadline.
The conversation is full of fascinating insights, including the precise details of how Leonardo DiCaprio pushed to add more complexity to the story. “Ernest [DiCaprio] and Mollie [Lilly Gladstone] really represented how twisted and complex some of this stuff was, culturally,” the actor said. “A lot of Osage women were marrying white men who really came to prey on them, to take over their headrights and seize their oil money. And yet, at the same time, what struck me was one scene in the initial draft we had, the real testimony of Ernest and Mollie,...

Country singer Jamey Johnson and saxophone player Dave McMurray have combined their talents for a new cover of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter’s “To Lay Me Down” that’s out now. The song appears on McMurray’s upcoming album Grateful Deadication 2, a tribute album that reimagines the work of the Grateful Dead.
The track opens with some celestial sax runs and percussion, but quickly shifts to a subdued arrangement of acoustic guitar and piano for Johnson’s tender delivery of the verses. McMurray accents the tune with some soulful...

John Goodman was last nominated for an Emmy way back in 2010 when he earned a Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actor bid for “You Don’t Know Jack.”; he lost that race to David Strathairn (“Temple Grandin”). The TV vet could be about to make a return to the Emmys for the first time in a lucky 13 years thanks to his ongoing role in the “Roseanne” sequel series “The Conners.”
“The Conners” follows the titular working-class family struggling through day-to-day life in Illinois after the sudden death of the original show’s title character Roseanne (Roseanne Barr). Goodman plays Dan Conner, who was the husband to Roseanne and the father to their four children: Darlene (Sara Gilbert), Becky (Lecy Goranson), DJ (Michael Fishman), and Jerry Garcia (who was retconned in “The Conners”).
As Dan, Goodman exudes the warm, everyman charm he has long had a high currency in throughout his career.

It’s been a turbulent few years for John Mulaney, the former SNL writer and ace stand-up comic. In December 2020, Mulaney’s pals — Seth Meyers, Bill Hader, and Fred Armisen among them — staged an intervention, prompting the comic to check into a rehab facility for addiction to alcohol, cocaine, and prescription drugs. He left two months later, and in May 2021, announced that he would be separating from his wife of nearly seven years, Annamarie Tendler, who’d been such a fixture in his stand-up sets and social media channels that...

When Dead & Company returns to the road this summer for the band’s final tour, it will be without original Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzman.
Dead & Co., which sprang from the ashes of psychedelic rock legends the Grateful Dead, has been one of the most successful touring acts of the past few years, featuring Kreutzman alongside original Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, with guitarist John Mayer taking over lead guitar and vocals that were originally contributed by Jerry Garcia, who died in 1995 at age 53.
On Saturday, April 22, the band issued a statement via social media to reveal that Kreutzman had dropped out of the tour.
“Dear Deadheads,” the statement began.

Logan Ledger has a new album of original material coming later this year, but in a bit of spontaneity the California singer-songwriter puts his own spin on a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Ripple.”
A track off the Dead’s 1970 American Beauty album, “Ripple” was written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter; Garcia handled vocals on the recording. Here, Ledger remains faithful to the original, with producer Shooter Jennings creating a warm, easygoing soundscape.
“I’ve long been a fan of the songs of Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter.

Your 4/20 present has arrived: It’s The Grateful Dead, who’ve now officially joined TikTok.
According to a press release, The Grateful Dead’s TikTok account “will serve as an outlet to celebrate the decades of music, generations of community, and endless array of creativity that has woven the band and its fans into every new era of the world’s counterculture and consciousness.” We estimate that good chunk of Deadheads are probably too old to use TikTok, but we digress.
The band’s first post on the platform is 30-second video compiling archival concert footage, candid scenes from Shakedown Street, handmade artwork, and more throughout the decades, from their beginnings in the late 1960s to their final shows in 1995 just days before founding member Jerry Garcia’s death.
Soundtracked by a remastered 1969 live recording of their song “St. Stephen” at San Francisco’s Fillmore West, the clip begins with...

Bob Dylan’s Rough and Rowdy Ways tour has stuck with a remarkably consistent setlist since it kicked off in November 2021. The show is heavy on tunes from Rough and Rowdy Ways, extremely light on hits, and features just a tiny smattering of Sixties tunes, including “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” “To Be Alone With You,” and “Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine.”

In a competitive situation, Apple Original Films has nabbed “Outcome,” the new dark comedy directed by Jonah Hill, which is in talks to star Keanu Reeves and Hill. The movie will be produced by Apple Studios.
Reeves plays Reef, a damaged Hollywood star who goes on a long journey of the soul after he is confronted with a mysterious video clip from his past. The script was written by Hill and Ezra Woods and produced by Hill and Matt Dines under their Strong Baby banner. This will be Hill’s second narrative feature after “Mid90s,” which he made for A24 and Scott Rudin.
Last year, Netflix released Hill’s documentary feature “Stutz,” about the life and work of Dr. Phil Stutz, Hill’s therapist. Hill’s last two on-screen performances were also for Netflix – he appeared in Kenya Barris’ somewhat controversial “You People” earlier this year and in 2021 co-starred in...

Are you ready for deadpan line readings, symmetrical cinematography, yellow typography, and whimsy? Wes Anderson and a cast of a thousand stars are here for you.

Jason Schwartzman is back in the lead of an Anderson picture (he made his debut in 1998’s “Rushmore”) opposite Scarlett Johansson, making her first appearance in Wesworld. Gilmore Girls created a town full of memorable characters in Stars Hollow. Decades later, many of those supporting characters are getting their due in revisits. David Gruber Allen played Stars Hollow’s Second Troubadour in four episodes. For his debut, Allen wanted Second Troubadour to cover a Grateful Dead song on Gilmore Girls. That song was in turn a cover itself, but legalities prevented it.

Farewell to Tom Verlaine, for some of us the greatest American rock guitarist not named “Hendrix.” Verlaine, who died Saturday at 73, could hit cosmic heights that no other guitar virtuoso could reach. He made his bones in the 1970s with Television, the garage band who created a new kind of psychedelic sublime in the Cbgb punk scene. Television made two of the Seventies’ best guitar albums, Marquee Moon and Adventure, until they fell apart, just as they were hitting their musical peak. But the music Verlaine got out of his...

Jonah Hill and Lauren London are meeting the in-laws in You People, the upcoming comedy from writer-director Kenya Barris.
Hill, who wrote the script with Barris, stars as Ezra, a man desperate for a relationship, who finds the woman of his dreams in London’s Amira. However, the problem comes when Ezra decides to propose, and has to face Amira’s parents, Akbar (Eddie Murphy) and Fatima (Nia Long).
“So you wanna marry my daughter?” Akbar asks menacingly in the trailer. “Well, Ezra, you can try.”
Things don’t go much better when Amira goes to meet Ezra’s try-hard mom, Shelley, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and casually racist dad, Arnold, played by David Duchovny.
