Serena Williams isn’t opposed to a King Richard sequel.
In an interview with Insider, the tennis star mentioned how she’s interested in the story of her and her sister expanded upon in theaters. There’s definitely more to the story as Serena has her own journey to success that of course isn’t the same as from her sister’s.
“King Richard had a perfect ending with Venus on the tennis court. Venus goes in her direction, and I go in my direction,” Serena explained. “It’s two completely different stories.” However, reliving those moments of her life could prove difficult for Williams to watch.
“I had a rough journey,” she said. “I didn’t do well and then I did. It’s a lot of drama. It’s a telenovela.”

Exclusive: Peacock has put in development Pure, a one-hour drama based on Allen Salkin’s Vanity Fair article “The Runaway Vegan,” from Weimaraner Republic Pictures and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars), Pure chronicles the rise and fall of the relationship between Sarma Melngailis and Anthony Strangis, two people who fulfilled each other’s desires to live in a world that existed outside of reality — which ultimately destroyed them. A tragic, twisted love story, doomed from the start.
The title of the series likely comes from Pure Food and Wine, Melngailis’ upscale New York City raw food restaurant, which made her famous. But falling under the influence of Strangis, who promised her everything, from financial prosperity to immortality for her and her dog if she obeyed him, Melngailis siphoned 2 million off her businesses and the two went on the run until they were arrested at a motel...

“There are many iconic moments in their life, and I think we worked hard to try to find the moments we didn’t know,” said Baylin during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles award-season event. “Really what happened inside the house and not just the SportsCenter highlights of their life and career.”

You don’t get to 30 combined Grand Slam titles without a good start. Warner Bros.’ upcoming film “King Richard” tells the story of how Venus and Serena Williams got that start through their father, Richard, who is played by Will Smith in a new trailer released Wednesday.
The trailer opens with Richard arriving home to see that their family has gotten a call from a social worker, who has heard that his two daughters spend too much time on the court and doesn’t think they are focusing on their schoolwork. Richard passionately defends his family and his belief in his daughters that they will go far.
“I don’t mind you saying we go hard on these kids because we are!” he says. “That’s our job! To keep them off these streets!”
The film also stars Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as the teenage Venus and Serena, who...

Exclusive: Tony Goldwyn is taking over for Liev Schreiber in Warner Bros.’ King Richard which is set to return to production in Los Angeles next week after pausing due to the pandemic earlier this spring.
Goldwyn is stepping in to play the role of Paul Cohen, a noted tennis coach whose clients included John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Venus and Serena Williams. I understand that Schreiber had to depart King Richard given a scheduling conflict.

Company aiming for 15 annual Us releases by 2020.
Global Road Entertainment aims to amass a $1bn production war chest over the next three years as it targets 15 annual Us releases by 2020, eight or nine of which are anticipated to be developed and produced in-house.
The $1bn goal was announced to buyers at a private presentation in Berlin yesterday and it is understood the provenance of that funding could combine capital from Global Road owners Tang Media Partners (Tmp) and a cash raise.
The presentation at the Sony Center in Berlin on Thursday by president of worldwide theatrical marketing Jack Pan was accompanied by a sizzle reel of films by Global Road’s senior executive suite from their time at other studios, and hinted at the type of content CEO Rob Friedman wants to make.

This weekend, veteran producer Denise Di Novi saw her directorial debut, Warner Bros.’ “Unforgettable,” make an underwhelming box-office debut with an estimated $4.8 million for the weekend. For most women, that would be the kiss of death: Very few women get the chance to direct studio films, and underperformance means there won’t be an encore. That won’t be the case for Di Novi.

San Andreas‘ Brad Peyton is currently attached to direct while Weimaraner Republic Pictures partners and The Shallows producers Matti Leshem and Lynn Harris are set to produce along with Tripp Vinson and Jeff Fierson. Fall is the season for Oscar movies; cheap summer thrillers are long forgotten. However, it’s a good time to honor the sleeper success that is “The Shallows.” Today is the film’s DVD release, the final platform for a little $17 million movie that stars Blake Lively, a shark, and a coral reef, and grossed $116 million worldwide.
There’s a sophisticated intelligence behind this movie, manipulating suspense with unexpected twists. This does not happen very often. So what did the producers and the studio do right?
1. Target women.

Their goal: produce high-concept movies on modest budgets, aimed at the under-served women’s audience. Leshem brought Anthony Jawinski’s script for “The Shallows” to Harris.

Sony Pictures has set a November start of shooting date at the Gold Coast Studios in Queensland, Australia for Jaume Collet-Serra's new thriller "The Shallows".
The film will be eligible to make use of Australia's generous federal location spending offset scheme. While it looked back in March like Now You See Me’s Louis Leterrier would be diving into shark survival thriller In The Deep, it would seem he’s decided to stay on dry land for now. Instead, Deadline reports that Non-Stop/ Run All Night man Jaume Collet-Serra is interested in dipping his toes in the briny stuff instead. Anthony Jaswinski’s script sparked a lot of interest from the studios last autumn, and Sony was quick to snap it up. The fictional tale finds a surfer attacked by a shark at a lonely sea spot who ends up bleeding and marooned on a buoy in the ocean. Her main problem, besides the blood loss? The hungry creature is still gliding through the water around her, cutting her off from help. Producers Lynn Harris and Matti Leshem of freshly-formed Weimaraner Republic Pictures are behind the project they’re calling “127 Hours meets Jaws”.Collet-Serra,...
