“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

Once you've seen all of "M*A*S*H," it can be tough to rewatch some earlier season episodes. The Korean War-set sitcom was heartfelt and inspired from its first season to its last, but the earlier seasons also prominently featured some kinks the show would later work out. The worst of them? The initially one-note writing of Nurse Margaret Houlihan (Loretta Swit), whose nickname Hot Lips is a good indicator of how the show felt about her early on.
In the show's early days, Margaret alternated between appearing to be a shrill stick in the mud and an amorous "other woman" for sniveling jerk Frank Burns (Larry Linville). When she was subjected to sexual harassment at the hands of our heroes, she was the butt of the joke for taking it too personally, and audiences never got much sense of her inner self. As the series began establishing its...

Julius Wu, Dominic Bianchi and James Purdum‘s Family Guy season 22, episode 1: “Fertilized Megg” centers around one of the series’ main protagonists, Meg Griffin (voiced by Mila Kunis), agreeing to give birth to the surrogate child of the series’ LGBTQ couple, Bruce and Jeffrey (both voiced by Mike Henry).
After months of burdening her family with her needs, Meg eventually gives birth to Bruce and Jeffrey’s baby, whom they name Liza Judy Barbara. Upon worrying that they can’t handle the responsibility of raising a child, Bruce and Jeffrey allow Meg to take care of her for a few days, much to the dismay of her mother, Lois (voiced by Alex Borstein).
To this episode’s credit, the plot was executed well as it effectively showed the struggles of pregnancy while also ending with an insightful message of how a good parent can come from anywhere.

The adult animated comedy series "Family Guy" has been on our televisions since 1999 — the Seth MacFarlane-created show has 21 seasons under its belt at the time of this writing. The adventures of the Griffins, their talking baby and dog, and their neighbors are temporarily paused for the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes, but there is a lot to rewatch. The series stars the voices of MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mild Kunis, Mike Henry, Patrick Warburton, and Arif Zahir.
The show has lampooned pop culture many times in its quarter-of-a-century existence, but one of its crowning achievements is the "Star Wars" episode entitled "Blue Harvest." It was the premiere episode of season 6 and aired for the first time on September 23, 2007. Fox's Sunday night animation lineup is about to collide, if only for a moment. In a clip from this week's episode of "Family Guy," which was just released by Entertainment Weekly, Peter Griffin (Seth MacFarlane) ends up at Bob's Burgers restaurant, where he pulls up a stool alongside Homer Simpson. It's less a major crossover moment than a quick gag, but "Bob's Burgers" star H. John Benjamin does make a voiceover guest appearance as the chef we know and love from the ever-underrated wharf restaurant.
The scene, which you can watch now below or on the Animation Domination YouTube channel, starts with Peter Griffin instantly trying to find a way to extricate himself from the situation when his wife, Lois (Alex Borstein) starts describing a dream she had the night before. "Eh-heh," he says while backing away, first out of the house and then down the street before eventually backing...

Mike Henry, the rugged former football player-turned-actor, passed away on January 8, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, likely from his heavy physical contact during his years in the NFL playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and LA Rams. Although not a household name, Henry carved out an impressive career playing heroic roles, most notably Tarzan in three films from 1966 – 68. I remember stumbling across Tarzan And the Valley of Gold on network TV as a kid and being enthralled by this hulking, well-spoken Tarzan who wore a suit in one scene and the traditional loincloth in the next. Henry took over the role of Tarzan from Jock Mahoney Blessed with a chiseled physique that Weintraub crowed looked like it was “sculpted by Michelangelo”, Henry could easily handle the athletic demands of the coveted part.

This year, several white voice actors from animated series have decided to forego their roles as characters of color in order for them to be recast, in some cases, to actors of color. Here are some examples of shows where this happened, from “Big Mouth” to “The Simpsons.”
Hank Azaria as Apu and Carl on “The Simpsons”
Azaria confirmed to reporters at Winter TCA earlier this year that he will no longer do the voice of Indian American convenience-store proprietor Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on “The Simpsons.” Film producer Adi Shankar previously said that the show plans to drop the character altogether. Azaria also did the voice of Carl, who was voiced by by Alex Désert in its last season premiere.
Jenny Slate as Missy on “Big Mouth”
The comedian said that “Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people” when she gave up the role of Missy on the Netflix animated series.

Kevin Michael Richardson will be taking over the voice role of Dr. Hibbert on “The Simpsons,” replacing Harry Shearer, who portrayed the Black character since 1990.
Shearer voiced Dr. Hibbert on Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons,” titled “DiaryQueen,” for the final time. Next week’s episode “Wad Goals” will feature Kevin Michael Richardson in the role, a representative for 20th Television confirmed to Variety.
The recasting comes after “Simpsons” producers said in June 2020 that white actors will no longer play non-white characters. Prior to that, Hank Azaria voiced the Indian character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon for years, drawing backlash among fans and the South Asian community. Azaria stepped down from the role in January 2020, and he was also replaced by Black voice actor Alex Désert as Carl Carlson in a fall 2020 episode.
During the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, several other animated shows recast characters of color who had previously been voiced by white actors.

Arif Zahir knows he’s living a bit of a Cinderella story: The aspiring young actor has gone from impersonating the “Family Guy” character Cleveland Brown on YouTube to starring as the character’s voice actor starting next season.
“It doesn’t seem real,” said Zahir, who officially landed the gig last month, as “Family Guy” was renewed for its 19th and 20th seasons. “My mama almost had a heart attack when I told her!”
When the “Family Guy” producers first emailed Zahir about auditioning to take over as the voice of Cleveland Brown, the young YouTube star thought it was a joke. Zahir said he was convinced that “Family Guy” would retire the character after Mike Henry, who originated the role, stepped down in June. “The Simpsons” has found its new Carl Carlson.
In the season premiere of Fox’s long-running animated comedy, Carl is voiced by Alex Désert, who takes over the role from Hank Azaria. Fox said in June it would no longer have white actors voice people of color.
Azaria, who voices numerous characters for “The Simpsons” is stepping back from the role. Mike Henry made a similar decision when he stepped down as the voice of Cleveland Brown on “Family Guy.”
Azaria had voiced Carl, who is Black, since the show’s beginning. It is not clear if Désert will be the permanent voice for the character going forward. “We are very pleased to welcome Alex Désert, playing Carl in ‘The Simpsons’ season premiere,” the show said in a statement.

“The Simpsons” fans might notice at least one long-running character sounds a little different in Sunday’s Season 32 premiere.
In the episode, Carl Carlson — Homer Simpson’s nuclear plant co-worker, and best friend to Lenny Leonard — is now voiced by actor Alex Désert (“Better Things”). Désert replaces Hank Azaria in the role, at least for that episode.
The switch comes as “The Simpsons” producers confirmed earlier this summer that it would no longer have white actors voice non-white characters. Azaria had voiced Carl, who is Black, since the beginning of the show.
It’s unclear whether Désert is Carl’s permanent voice, and if he’ll be voicing other characters as well. Among other recurring characters the edict might impact include Dr. Julius Hibbert, who is seen in the episode, but doesn’t speak.
Désert also voices Swarm on Disney Xd’s “Spider-Man: Maximum Venom” and Mr. Bojenkins on Adult Swim...

Apple’s “Central Park” animated series is feeling more like a “Hamilton” reunion by the second.
Exactly a month after Kristen Bell announced she was stepping away from voicing the mixed-race character Molly, Apple has found her replacement in the form of “Hamilton” alumna and “Umbrella Academy” star Emmy Raver-Lampman.
She will become the show’s third prominent former “Hamilton” cast member, joining Leslie Odom Jr. (who plays Molly’s father Owen Tillerman) and Daveed Diggs (who voices the assistant to Stanley Tucci’s tyrannical Bitsy Brandenham).
The re-casting comes amid a racial reckoning in the animated space, which has seen multiple white actors stop voicing characters of color.

Actress Alison Brie has apologized for voicing Diane Nguyen, a Vietnamese American character on Netflix’s animated series BoJack Horseman. In an Instagram post, Brie reflected on the role – a highlight of her acting career – as a missed opportunity for Asian representation in American media.
“I now understand that people of color,” she writes, “should always voice people of color.” Her regret might have almost seemed superficial, were it not for the fact that Diane’s Asian heritage is an important part of her character. Indeed, given how one episode even sees her return to Vietnam to get ‘in touch’ with her roots, Brie now recognizes her performance as inauthentic, and indicative of the deeply-entrenched racial stigmas of Hollywood filmmaking.
“We missed a great opportunity to represent the Vietnamese-American community accurately and respectfully,” Brie goes on to say, “and for that I am truly sorry. I applaud all those who...

Alison Brie posted on Instagram Friday expressing regret over voicing the character of Diane Nguyen, a Vietnamese American writer on Netflix’s BoJack Horseman. In the statement, Brie says “We missed a great opportunity to represent the Vietnamese-American community accurately and respectfully.”
Brie’s decision follows a number of white actors announcing this week that they are stepping down from voicing their animated Poc characters, including Family Guy‘s Mike Henry, Central Park‘s Kristen Bell and Big Mouth‘s Jenny Slate.
Additionally, The Simpsons yesterday said that the show will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters. Hank Azaria has been the voice of the Black character Carlton Carlson. He also was known for voicing Apu, a character which has long been criticized for its stereotypical depiction of an Indian immigrant. Azaria announced in January that he would no longer play the character. Harry Shearer has voiced the Black character Dr.

News in a statement, "Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters." The controversy surrounding The Simpsons‘ Apu has really heated up in recent years. Though he’s often viewed as a beloved resident of Springfield, 2017 documentary The Problem With Apu brought up some serious questions about whether such a stereotypical Indian-American character should still be allowed on a celebrated TV show like The Simpsons. Since then, the producers have come under fire for failing to respond to the controversy. But that all changed several months ago.
Yes, in news that sent fans reeling, star Hank Azaria revealed that he won’t be voicing the Kwik-e-Mart proprietor any longer. But now, the series has gone one step further and announced that no longer will white actors be allowed to voice non-white characters. In a statement released earlier today, the producers said:

The Simpsons‘ new policy follows an announcement by Family Guy veteran Mike Henry earlier on Friday that he will no longer voice the black Cleveland Brown character on Fox’s long-running animated hit. Earlier this week, two white actors, Jenny Slate of Netflix’s animated series Big Mouth, and Kristen Bell of Central Park on Apple TV+, said that they will stop voicing the mixed-race characters in those shows.
Additionally, several live-action comedies, including Scrubs and 30 Rock, have pulled episodes featuring blackface from their streaming platforms, and amid a nation dealing with controversial depictions of race on TV and film.
