Exclusive: The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant has reacted to news that the show is coming back in the U.S., joking that it could all be based on Zoom following the pandemic.
Merchant was the creative force behind the UK Office alongside Ricky Gervais and will be an executive producer on the untitled new Peacock series from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman.
It will be set in the same universe as The Office and will star Domhnall Gleeson (Ex-Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). Production begins in July.
Speaking to Deadline on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet, Merchant said he didn’t know much about the new series. “They just make us sign bits of paperwork to say they can do it and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“I like the idea … that it’s within the universe of The Office, but not necessarily in the same office.

It's officially official: We are returning to the "Office" universe. Yes, we say universe because NBC's beloved sitcom isn't being revived or rebooted. Rather, the powers that be have opted to craft a spin-off of sorts set in the same world as the American version of "The Office," albeit centered on a new cast of characters in a new location. Per a press release, the series is set to begin filming in July for an eventual release on the streaming service Peacock, and the first plot details have been revealed.
The currently untitled "Office" spin-off hails from Greg Daniels, who officially came on board to develop the project last year. He also adapted the original British "Office" series for American television. Daniels is working alongside "Nathan for You" co-creator Michael Koman. The show has been ordered to series at Peacock and is being described as "a new mockumentary series...

Upload starring Robbie Amell will have one more season to delve into its virtual reality afterlife world. Prime Video’s officially given the sci-fi comedy an order for a fourth and final season.
“When I conceived Upload many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards,” said series creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer Greg Daniels (The Office). “Jen Salke and Vernon Sanders have been our Angels and they deserve 5 stars.”
In addition to Amell as Nathan, season three starred Andy Allo as Nora, Kevin Bigley as Luke, Allegra Edwards as Ingrid, Zainab Johnson as Aleesha, and Owen Daniels as A.I. Guy. Howard Klein and Jeff Blitz serve as executive producers.

Prime Video has announced an October 20 premiere date for Season 3 of its sci-fi comedy series Upload, starring Robbie Amell and Andy Allo. The streamer also unveiled some first-look images of the upcoming eight-episode season (see above and below). Two episodes will debut weekly on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Created by Emmy-winning writer Greg Daniels, Upload is set in a technologically advanced future where holographic phones, self-driving vehicles, AI assistance and 3D food printers are the norm. And, forget about dying – instead, you’ll be “uploaded” to a virtual reality afterlife and enjoy all the comforts of a world-class resort. Provided you can afford it.

Well, this is some exciting TV news.
Prime Video has announced Upload Season 3 will finally premiere Friday, October 20, 2023.
In a shift from the rollout strategy the first two seasons used, two episodes will be available weekly.
That means you'll have to wait a month longer if you plan on binging, but seriously, more shows should adopt the weekly strategy.
The binge is good at the time, but then the conversation is over in one fell swoop.
There's plenty of fun in store for fans of the hit comedy series.
"On Upload Season Three, we pick back up with Nora and freshly downloaded Nathan as they navigate their relationship, while racing to stop the mysterious conspiracy that threatens to destroy millions of lives," the logline teases.
"Can they shut down Freeyond, and finally have a real life together? Or is it just a matter of time until Nathan's head explodes?"
"Meanwhile,...

Deadline reports that the Max streaming service has confirmed they’ve ordered season 2 of Velma, an animated show that’s intended for adult viewers even though it also happens to be a prequel to the kid-friendly classic Scooby-Doo. Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project and The Office provides the voice of popular cartoon character Velma Dinkley in the series, which first started streaming back in January.
Developed by showrunner Charlie Grandy, Velma tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. An original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.
Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy executive produce the show alongside Howard Klein and Sam Register. Velma is produced by Warner Bros. Animation.
