It’s been a long road for the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer, but AMC has finally given the conclusion of the sci-fi series an official release date. It was previously reported that the final season of Snowpiercer wouldn’t arrive until 2025, but that date has been bumped up as it was announced today that the new season will premiere exclusively on AMC and AMC+ on July 21st at 9pm Et/Pt.
“We can’t wait to share the final season of this thrill ride of a series with this vibrant fan community and new viewers starting July 21 on AMC and AMC+, with plenty of time built in to catch up on previous seasons on a variety of on demand platforms and AMC+ before then,” said Courtney Thomasma, Executive Vice President of Streaming for AMC Networks. “Snowpiercer is an entertaining drama with a great cast and seeing how the...

Evidently the most successful outing of a Korean filmmaker in the West, at least in terms of box office success, “Snowpiercer” is based on the French climate fiction graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette. Featuring an all-star Hollywood cast that resulted in approximately 80 percent of the film being shot in English, and most of the shooting taking place in Prague, the production costs reached $40 million, making “Snowpiercer” the most expensive Korean production at the time. However, the film would go on to screen at a number of international festivals, winning a plethora of awards and eventually finding distribution all over the world, with its profit at the end of its run reaching the amount of $87 million worldwide.

It’s been over a year since the third season of Snowpiercer wrapped up on TNT but there’s still no word on when fans might get to see the fourth and final season. Due to cost-cutting measures, it was announced earlier this year that Snowpiercer season 4 wouldn’t be airing on TNT but that Tomorrow Studios would be shopping the series to another network.
While speaking with Deadline, Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein offered an update on the state of Snowpiercer. “We have Season 4 in the can, which hasn’t been seen yet,” Adelstein said. “We’re talking to a number of buyers about buying the first three seasons and also Season 4 which is probably our best season; we’re in the middle of that.” He added that they’re also searching for a new home for Let the Right One In, the former Showtime series that was canceled earlier this year.

The fourth and final season of Snowpiercer was set to debut on TNT, but that debut has been scrapped. Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. Discovery has axed Snowpiercer season 4, which is believed to be part of the tax write-offs for content at the company.
“We can confirm that TNT will not air season four of Snowpiercer,” a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors and crew who brought Snowpiercer’s extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong. We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. Jennifer Connelly will join Joel Edgerton in Dark Matter, Apple’s series adaptation of the Blake Crouch novel.
The nine-episode sci-fi series stars Joel Edgerton as Jason Desson, “a physicist, professor, and family man who – one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago – is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.” Jennifer Connelly will star alongside Joel Edgerton in Dark Matter as Daniela, Jason’s wife. Blake Crouch will serve as the showrunner and writer of Dark Matter and will also executive produce alongside Joel Edgerton. Jakob Verbruggen (Invasion) will direct the first three episodes of the series.

It’s easy (and mostly correct) to assume that the majority of superhero television is based on comics. But Hollywood loves existing IP, which means there are plenty of other series on TV right now based on comic books or graphic novels that have nothing to do with super powers or saving the day.
Comics are much more than caped crusaders — graphic novels run the same genre gamut as literary novels, from journalism to sci-fi and plenty in between. Below, we’ve rounded up a bunch of TV series that you might not have realized were based on comic books. Read on to find out where you can watch each show and, more importantly, where to find the graphic novels that inspired them.

Shortly after TNT gave the Snowpiercer series the greenlight, the showrunner Josh Friedman ended up leaving the show. As you'll see in a couple of tweets below, he says he did not leave over creative differences, he was removed because the network didn't feel like he would be compliant. As you might expect, he's not very happy with how things turned out.
I didn't "exit" over creative differences. TNT insisted that I be removed from show running duties because they didn't think I'd be compiant. Hopefully they found someone more to their liking.
— josh friedman (@Josh_Friedman) February 27, 2018
TNT has since hired a new showrunner though, and that showrunner is Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson. Sarah Aubrey, executive VP of originals at TNT had this to say in a statement:
"Graeme’s extensive background in the sci-fi genre coupled with his brilliant work behind Orphan Black made him the perfect choice for this series.

TNT has officially ordered a full season of the upcoming Snowpiercer series with Jennifer Connelly. I'm actually excited about this show. It's based on the French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette. Director Bong Joon-ho previously adapted it into a film, which turned out to be really freakin' good.
I'm not only a fan of the story, but I'm a fan of Jennifer Connelly, and it will be great to see her in a series like this. She will play a character named Melanie Cavill, "a First Class passenger who works as the Voice of the Train – responsible for making the daily announcements over its Pa system. Though many in her VIP position are dismissive of the lower class passengers, Melanie is curiously fascinated by them."
The story is set seven years after an apocalyptic ice age leaves Earth as a frozen wasteland,...

Jennifer Connelly has joined the cast of TNT's upcoming series adaptation of Snowpiercer. It's awesome that they managed to land an Oscar-winning actress, who has starred in films such as Dark City, Requiem For a Dream, A Beautiful Mind, Hulk, and she most recently starred in Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel.
The series is based on the French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette. It was previously adapted into a film by director Bong Joon-ho and it was pretty damn good.

Earlier this year is was announced that TNT would be developing a series adaption of Snowpiercer, which is based on the French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette.
I loved the movie that was directed by Bong Joon-ho. It had an amazing cast that included Chris Evans, John Hurt, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell and more. The series is currently in development, and the pilot episode is set to be helmed by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. They've also just started putting together their own cast starting with Hamilton star Daveed Diggs. He originated the roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson.

There are a multitude of reasons why any film may get unfairly overlooked. It could be a lack of marketing resources to provide a substantial push, or, due to a minuscule roll-out, not enough critics and audiences to be the champions it might require. It could simply be the timing of the picture itself; even in the world of studio filmmaking, some features take time to get their due. With an increasingly crowded marketplace, there are more reasons than ever that something might not find an audience and, as with last year, we’ve rounded up the releases that deserved more attention.
Note that all of the below films made less than $1 million at the domestic box office at the time of posting — VOD figures are not accounted for, as they normally aren’t made public — and are, for the most part, left out of most year-end conversations. Sadly, most...

TNT has announced that they have ordered a pilot for a series based on the property, and they've hired Josh Friedman to write the script. Friedman previously created the series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and has worked on movies such as War of the Worlds and some of the upcoming Avatar sequels.

Later this week, 2016 will cross the halfway mark, so now’s the time to take a look back at its first six months and round up our favorite films thus far. While the end of this year will bring personal favorites from all of our writers, think of the below 30 entries as a comprehensive rundown of what should be seen before heading into a promising fall line-up.
As a note, this feature is based solely on U.S. theatrical releases from 2016, with many currently widely available on home video, streaming platforms, or theatrically. Check them out below, as organized alphabetically, followed by honorable mentions and films to keep on your radar for the remaining summer months. One can also see the full list on Letterboxd.
10 Cloverfield Lane (Dan Trachtenberg)
Forget the Cloverfield connection. The actors who were in this film didn’t even know what the title was until moments before the first trailer dropped.

Legrand and Ekinci crafted this alternate steampunk version of Paris as something inspired by the artist’s work rather than born from it. Tardi in turn helped by drawing original work later brought to life by Desmares’ animation team. The whole is therefore a culmination of its six-year production schedule populated by multiple creative minds working in tandem throughout. It may look familiar, but it’s very much brand new.

It may be aimed towards children and have a horrendous voice over, but this little diddy looks like it might just be good. It's set in an alternate France with suspended cable cars, bowler hats, and lots of moustaches. Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer tickled everyone’s postapocalyptic happy place when it hit theaters recently (read our interview with the director). Based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette, the film is set on a massive train powered by a perpetual-motion engine that circles the globe. It's also the site of a violent class war. Think: 10th circle of Hell. The Verge reports that Japan’s Jr East railway company has commissioned a very Snowpiercer-esque train that will cost upwards of $50 million. The website states: The train will consist of five suites, one deluxe suite, two glass-walled observation cars, a dining car and lounge. The five normal suites will each have a private bathroom with a...

What would happen if, thanks to an attempt to stop global warming that went awry, our big blue marble were plunged into a new ice age? The result would be pretty much what you would expect: Humanity's survivors would find themselves trapped on a perpetually moving supertrain divided by strict us-vs.-them barriers (plebians in the back, patricians in the front), and the huddled masses would have to fight their way to the front, one bloody siege at a time.

Before “Snowpiercer” was a movie, it was a story. I'm not referring to the French graphic novel by Jacques Lob, Jean-Marc Rochett, and Benjamin Legrand on which this dystopian action thriller is based, but of course to the months-long public quarrels between director Bong Joon-ho and producer Harvey Weinstein over the final cut. Weinstein eventually backed down, agreeing to leave intact Bong's vision in return for a narrower distribution plan. Given the South Korean auteur's seeming victory of art over commerce (since it was widely reported that Weinstein wanted a less complicated version of the plot), it's reasonable to assume that.

A hit in South Korea and France, Snowpiercer is still awaiting release in the Us and UK. Here's why you should look forward to it...
For a while there, it looked as though South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer would never get an official English-language release at all. Late last year, it emerged that Bong's ambitious science fiction film had been picked up for release in English-speaking countries by The Weinstein Company. When the Weinsteins, true to form, voiced their desire to produce a shorter version of Snowpiercer, the director understandably dug his heels in and refused to budge.
For several months, Snowpiercer hung in limbo, even as its release in territories like South Korea and France saw great financial returns and rave reviews. But in February this year, it was announced that Snowpiercer would be coming out after all, and oddly, in...

The French comic series Snowpiercer originated in 1982 as Le Transperceneige, and is arriving for the first time in English courtesy of Titan Comics' two new volumes. The increasing interest in Jean-Marc Rochette, Benjamin Legrand and the late Jacques Lob's books - and almost certainly the move to finally translate them - is the result of South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's acclaimed film adaptation.
The setup of Snowpiercer is relatively straightforward. Following a cataclysm - rumoured to be man-made - which covered the globe in snow and ice, the rag-tag survivors of mankind have taken refuge on a luxury train designed to circumnavigate the globe, clinging to the warmth provided by the roaring engine that has become an object of worship for some.
The first volume, The Escape, centres around Proloff, a refugee from the rear of the train who seeks to find some sort of salvation in the front carriages.

Publishing house to launch book pitching event Shoot the Book at Cannes.
French publishing house Gallimard has launched a drive to ramp up its adaptation rights business both at home and abroad.
“We’re already very active but we want to becoming even more proactive in terms of presenting our catalogue to producers,” said Frédérique Massart, director of Gallimard’s audiovisual department, told ScreenDaily.
Recent adaptations from the Gallimard catalogue include Norwegian Joachim’s Trier’s Oslo, August 31st, based on Drieu La Rochelle’s tale of an ex-junkie Feu Follet, and Korean Bong Joon Ho’s post-apocalyptic ice age tale Snowpiercer, which was adapted from Jean-Marc Rochette and Benjamin Legrand’s graphic novel Transperceneige, originally published by Gallimard subsidiary Castermann.

Breeding some of the most provocative, absorbing of feature films, the dystopian genre has a duty to not only compel and entertain its audience, but to provide a relatively convincing hypothetical prediction, of how the human race would respond to such cataclysmic devastation within this theoretical environment, no matter how absurd it may seem. To strike the perfect balance between the two notions is certainly no easy task – but it is one Bong Joon-ho has triumphed in empathetically, with his latest endeavour Snowpiercer.
Set just 17 years into the future, a destructive Ice Age has wiped out the human race on earth, following a failed experiment to eradicate the dangers of global warming. However a leading engineer who feared such an outcome, designed an infallible train, that journeys around the globe consistently, using a perpetual-motion engine – and aboard this train are the only surviving members of the human race. After four years of waiting, it is time to finally experience Korean filmmaker Joon-ho Bong's first English language feature, a science fiction thriller set entirely on a train. The film is titled Snowpiercer and has been in the news recently over concerns that The Weinstein Company was editing a new version that would lose 20 minutes of scenes (apparently not any more). Snowpiercer just premiered at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival, where I finally caught up with it. And, as expected, I was totally and completely lost in the film. It's a masterpiece. I have been a long-standing outspoken fan of Joon-ho Bong and all his films (I interviewed him in 2010) but here he's at the top of his game, exceeding all expectations, delivering a sci-fi for the ages. Snowpiercer is an ambitious, original (though based on the graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob & Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette) story...

Let joy be unconfined! For months, there has been behind-the-scenes wrangling over Korean director Bong Joon-Ho's Snowpiercer, as Us and UK rights holder Harvey Weinstein apparently proposed to cut the film's two-and-a-half hour running time for its release here. Now, it seems, a deal has been reached and the film will arrive on these shores in all its uncut glory - although a UK release date remains to be set.The film is an adaptation of French comic Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob & Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette, and takes place in a world where a misguided attempt to end global warming has frozen the planet. The only remaining life is aboard the titular train, racing around the globe powered by a perpetual motion engine. An elite group live at the front of the train; the have-nots have fallen to the back, and they begin to revolt against their poor living conditions.

Today we're introducing Clickables as a little experiment. Sometimes it'll be short form news items, maybe some interesting or amusing video or something potentially a little less "written." We'll see how it goes, we look forward to your feedback. With all the controversy around "Snowpiercer" at the moment and the battle between director Bong Joon-Ho and Harvey Weinstein over the cut that will get released in many international territories (see the latest update here), it's easy to forget that the movie is a comic book adaptation. The apocalyptic film is based on the French graphic novel "Le Transperceneige" by Jacques Lob and Benjamin Legrand, and illustrated by Jean-Marc Rochette. Now, no matter what movie cut arrives, you'll at least get to the source material in English. Titan Comics will release an English translation in 2014 and here's the official press release along with a first look at the artwork and some sample pages.

There's yet another poster for Bong Joon Ho's Snowpiercer, showing Chris Evans, John Hurt and Jamie Bell. Set in a future where a failed experiment to stop global warming creates an ice age that kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train, but a revolution brews. Also in the cast, and featured in the previous character posters, are Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-ho, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer, Ewen Bremner and Ko Ah-sung. Joon-ho and Kelly Masterson wrote the screenplay based on Le Transperceneige by Jean-Marc Rochette, Benjamin Legrand and Jacques Lob .

Based on everything so far from Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer, the dystopian sci-fi drama is one we definitely want to see. But despite this HD release of a new international trailer, there’s still little indication when we might see the movie in the UK, or even Stateside despite a pickup by The Weinstein Company. For now, though, check out the latest promo, which has a little bit of new footage. Adapted by the director and Kelly Masterson from Benjamin Legrand and Jacuqes Lob’s graphic novel Le Transperceneige, Snowpiercer is set at a time after an experiment to reverse global warming has gone catastrophically, chillingly wrong. With much of the Earth’s climate ruined and the world wrapped in a shroud of snowy blizzards, surviving humans circle the globe in a massive train that wends its way through the gusts and flakes.A class system has developed, with the...

#12. Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer
Gist: Based on the French graphic novel by Benjamin Legrand and Jacques Lob, Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an ice age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train, but a revolution brews.
Prediction: The last three films to have Bong’s name stamped in the directors credit – The Host, Tokyo!, and Mother – have screened in Cannes, and this one will, too. While Bong has certainly earned an upgrade to a Competition slot, we wonder if this project is too much of a blockbuster to mind up there. Given its genre roots and scale, an Out of Competition or Midnight Screening slot might be the most likely scenario.

We’ve been intrigued by The Host (the monster movie, not the maligned Stephenie Meyer adaptation) director Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi dystopia Snowpiercer. He found a great idea, gathered a solid cast and began shooting last year. Now, finally, we’re getting a look at the movie via some viral marketing aimed at Korean audiences. Check out the “passports” for the various actors and their characters below. Snowpiercer, adapted from Benjamin Legrand and Jacques Lob’s graphic novel by the director, is set in a world that has been all but destroyed by a catastrophic attempt to curtail global warming. With almost the entire surface a frozen wasteland, the remaining human survivors are crowded on to the titular train, trying to survive. But despite the desperate situation, class divisions on the train are threatening a revolution, and the fallout might shatter what remains of humanity. The pics give the film a pleasingly grimy,...
