Veteran film executive Paul Davidson has acquired the remake rights to “Electric Dreams,” the 1984 film written and produced by Rusty Lemorande.
Davidson — who previously ran The Orchard and Idw Entertainment — struck the deal with Lemorande, who retained the rights to the film after its release nearly four decades ago. Brian T. Arnold, whose script “In the End” appeared on the 2021 Black List and is being produced by Sister, will pen the new movie.
In a statement, Davidson described the original “Electric Dreams” as “an iconic film that left a deep imprint on me from the first time I saw it.” He adds: “Released in what is clearly one of the best decades for film ever, it remains a classic that feels especially prescient today. Joining forces with Brian and Rusty is immensely exciting.”

Justin Simien directed Haunted Mansion for Disney based on the theme park’s attraction of the same name. The filmmaker is now opening up about another Disneyland attraction he would like to adapt into a film and it’s Michael Jackson’s Captain Eo.
“Captain Eo, let’s go,” Simien told Screen Rant during Comic-Con. “Listen, I know it is out of commission, okay? I know that’s not technically a ride, but I am ready. I need some singing and I need some dancing and I need some jerry curl juice in outer space immediately.”
Captain Eo was 3D science fiction short film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and it starred Jackson. George Lucas, Rusty Lemorande and Coppola wrote the script of the short that also starred Anjelica Huston and Dick Shawn.

Netflix has set a third installment of Joe Berlinger’s “Conversations With a Killer” docuseries, this one focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Variety has learned exclusively.
Titled “Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes,” the three-part series will launch Oct. 7 on the streamer.
Here is the official description for “Conversations With a Killer” season 3, per Netflix:
When Milwaukee police entered the apartment of 31-year-old Jeffrey Dahmer in July of 1991, they uncovered the grisly personal museum of a serial killer: a freezer full of human heads, skulls, bones and other remains in various states of decomposition and display. Dahmer quickly confessed to 16 murders in Wisconsin over the previous four years, plus one more in Ohio in 1978, as well as unimaginable acts of necrophilia and cannibalism. The discovery shocked the nation and stunned the local community, who were incensed that such a depraved killer had been allowed to operate within their city for so long.

Director and documentarian Mark Hartley scores both a film history and comedy success with this ‘wild, untold’ account of the 1980s film studio that was both revered and despised by everyone who had contact with it. The ‘cast list’ of interviewees is encyclopedic, everybody has a strong opinion, and some of them don’t need four-letter words to describe their experience!

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I can often spend hours upon hours trawling through iTunes looking for new movies to buy… Usually I’ll randomly come across a title I haven’t seen in years and use the “Cast & Crew” links to make my way down the rabbit hole to the more obscure side of Apple’s digital movie service.
Now whilst many will decry that iTunes is a terrible VOD service due to Apple’s desire to lock its audience to their platforms, if you have an Apple TV or iPad be aware – there are some truly obscure films hidden away in the depths of the vast collection of movies. Some of which have been made available in the UK for the first time since VHS and a Lot that have been added to the service in their original uncut form!

Anyone who has participated in interviews for documentaries knows that their views can be distorted by the editing process. Rusty Lemorande, who was a production executive on the hit 1980 comedy Caddyshack, participated in an A&E network documentary about the making of the film. He is now suing the network and production company for editing his comments to make it appear as though he was spying on cast and crew members during production of the film. For more click here...

"Caddyshack" production executive Rusty Lemorande is suing A&E Television Networks and Pangolin Pictures for $6 million, claiming that he was unfairly depicted as a "spy" in a documentary about the making of the 1980 golf comedy, according to AdWeek. Lemorande alleges in papers filed on Monday in New York State Supreme Court -- documents obtained by AdWeek, Forbes and several other outlets -- that the documentary "Caddyshack: The Inside Story," tarnished his reputation and damaged his ability to work in Hollywood. At issue is an interview quote from Lemorande in the 2009...

Hollywood producer Rusty Lemorande has filed a $6 million (£4 million) lawsuit against the filmmakers of a documentary about comedy classic Caddyshack, amid allegations of defamation.
Lemorande has hit out at Pangolin Pictures bosses for depicting him as an onset spy in Caddyshack: The Inside Story, suggesting he was hired by movie executives to report on the behaviour of the golf film's stars, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield and Chevy Chase.
In legal papers, Lemorande claims an interview he granted to documentary makers was heavily edited to make it appear as if he was a 23-year-old snitch for chiefs at the Jon Peters Organization, which financed the 1980 film with Orion Pictures.
Lemorande's lawyer, Alexander Shapiro, says, "They really wanted to get the juicy stuff out of him. When they didn't get the answers they wanted, they manufactured a fiction to make him look like a spy."
The producer is suing for damages, claiming the documentary, which aired on the A&E Biography Channel in 2009, tainted his reputation and cost him future jobs in Hollywood, reports the New York Daily News.

Paris -- U.S. screenwriters John Brian King, Cynthia Riddle, Rusty Lemorande and Danielle Wolff will put on their best French accents on Thursday when they head to Royaumont Abbey for a six-week residency program hosted by the Ile de France Film Commission and the Sacem's Franco-American Cultural Fund.
Founded in 2006, the annual "Autumn Stories" program hosts four U.S. scribes from the Writers Guild of America while they complete a France-based feature film project. The writers, selected by the WGA, will work on their scripts, meet other French industry professionals, scout locations and enjoy lunches and dinners in Royaumont and in nearby Paris.
King's "Hotel Stendhal" follows two American girls in Paris for vacation whose lives are changed forever, Lemorande's "The Magic Man" follows a magician from the U.S. to France during the age of illusionist Eugene-Robert Houdin, Riddle's "Curtains" focuses on the friendship and rivalry between Sarah Bernhardt...

A visit to her father's grave gave Barbra Streisand the courage to direct 1983 movie Yentl.
In the newly-released Yentl DVD package, the singer/actress reveals she wasn't convinced she should be the one to direct the film, and held meetings with filmmakers like the late Claude Berri with a view to hiring someone else to direct her.
But then she visited her father's grave for the first time.
She reveals, "When I came home my brother sent me the picture of my arm around the tombstone. And I think it was (producer) Rusty Lemorande who said, ‘Oh, my God. Look at the picture.”
In the photo, the tombstone next to her father’s was for a person named Anshel, the name Streisand's Yentl character takes when she becomes a man.
She adds, "That was the sign - 'I have to direct it.'"...
