Produced by The Jim Henson Company, the animated series stars Golden Globe nominee Beanie Feldstein as Harriet, a fiercely independent and adventurous 11-year-old girl, alongside Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch as Ole Golly, Harriet’s larger-than-life, no-nonsense nanny.
“Harriet the Spy” follows the outspoken and perpetually curious 11-year-old Harriet M Welsch. More than anything, Harriet wants to be a writer, and in order to be a good writer, she’ll need to know everything. And to know everything means she’ll need to spy … on everyone! This season, follow Harriet as she navigates letting go, growing up, and celebrating the gift of today.

In 1964 author Louise Fitzhugh introduced readers to an 11-year-old wannabe spy named Harriet M. Welch. Despite the success of the books, pop culture certainly took its time monetizing Fitzhugh’s character, with Nickelodeon only bringing Harriet to the big screen in 1996 with a more up-to-date sensibility. Now, Apple TV+ has returned to Fitzhugh’s character, and her illustrated aesthetic with their new animated series, “Harriet the Spy.”
With just five episodes in its debut season, and another five set to come out next spring, writer Will McRobb’s series isn’t so much a standard television adaptation of Fitzhugh’s novel as it is individual standalone stories. The look and feel is similar to other animated Apple fare, particularly Apple TV+’s “The Snoopy Show.” Harriet (voiced by Beanie Feldstein) lives in an indeterminate time — where cell phones don’t exist and pay phones are still a thing — with her mother,...

Get your magnifying glasses and spy notebooks ready because “Harriet the Spy” is back. Apple TV+ has greenlit a new animated series based on the tween spy created in 1964 by author Louise Fitzhugh. “Booksmart” star Beanie Feldstein will be the fiercely independent Harriet, while Jane Lynch will provide the voice for her stalwart nanny ‘Ole Golly.’

For many kids, there’s something special about Halloween. There’s a magical property to picking out a costume, dressing up, and going door-to-door asking for candy. Halloween lets children express themselves and be whomever they want to be, whether that’s a superhero, a unicorn, or Abe Lincoln. That magic fades as puberty and teenagerhood beckon, but there’s a lot of nostalgia associated with the spooky holiday.
The spirit of Halloween is perfectly captured in the 2010 video game “Costume Quest,” developed by San Francisco-based studio Double Fine Productions and published by the now-defunct Thq. The role-playing game used cutesy graphics and a classic turn-based combat system to tell a story about becoming something different on Halloween, with kids quite literally becoming their costumes to fight monsters.

We look back fondly at the innate weirdness of Nickelodeon's 90s show The Adventures Of Pete And Pete...
At some point in the early 1990s – I forget the exact year, but research tells me it must have been somewhere around late 1993 or early 1994 – something unbearably exciting happened in our suburb of Merseyside. What if Calvin and Hobbes weren’t a duo comprised of a young boy and his toy tiger, but rather of a young boy and his pet snake? That’s the premise Nickelodeon’s new animated offering, Sanjay and Craig, which is uniting actors from top shows like 30 Rock, Arrested Development and Breaking Bad.
Sanjay and Craig is produced by the same creators of another animated jaunt, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. If you remember than one, than you’ll also remember that it wasn’t only kids who found it amusing. Likewise, Sanjay and Craig hopes to woo young adults and “their young nieces and nephews,” also, reported EW.

Nickelodeon TV series "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" ran from 1993 to 1996 and won the hearts and minds of late Gen-Xers with its charmingly surreal take on childhood and guest stars like Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, Chris Elliott, Janeane Garofalo, Debbie Harry, LL Cool J and Patty Hearst. Created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi, the show developed a considerable cult following over the years since its run ended, leading to cast and crew reunions taking place in New York and L.A. in 2011 and 2012 and once again last month as part of Sf Sketchfest in honor of the show's 20th anniversary. But is it possible that all this nostalgia comes at an unseen and dark cost? Funny or Die came up with the following spoof video featuring Michael C. Maronna (Big Pete Wrigley), Danny Tamberelli (Little Pete Wrigley), Toby Huss (Artie, the Strongest Man in the World) and Rick Gomez...

Some time around 1993 at a Nickelodeon research center in New Jersey, Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb were forced to sit behind a sheet of mirrored glass and observe a dozen kids watch their new half-hour TV show "The Adventures of Pete & Pete." Viscardi and McRobb urged the group’s rumpled outlier to proclaim his love, save their show, for the love of God say anything. If you were a kid who grew up during the '90s, chances are you were probably watching either MTV or Nickelodeon to get your fix of entertainment for the day. And if you watched Nickelodeon, you were probably a fan of “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” the oddball series featuring two brothers both named Pete and their sometimes surreal adventures growing up in the suburb of Wellsville. Created by Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi -- who were working in the promo department at the still-fledgling network -- 'Pete & Pete' had begun as a series of shorts in 1989 before becoming a regular series several years later. But this wasn’t just any kids program. Not only did it feature an 8-year-old with a tattoo of a topless mermaid named Petunia and a personal superhero wildly gesticulating in skin tight pants but featured recurring guest stars, including Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop,...

There's a reason why a certain generation looks back on "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" with a vast fondness and nostalgia that reaches almost mythic proportions: the show was all about looking back on childhood with a vast fondness and nostalgia in mythic proportions.
For the first time since the show ended in 1996, the cast and creative crew behind the early Nickelodeon cult hit reunited for a panel to look back on their now iconic work. Both Petes -- older TV brother Mike Maronna and the younger, stranger TV brother Danny Tamberelli -- were in attendance on Saturday at La's Cinefamily, as were creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi and a host of other cast members.
As McRobb told the audience, the show's unique perspective is what made it such a unique success. In seeking to make each episode "funny, sad, strange or beautiful," the show connected in a way...

Thomas the Tank Engine, who first appeared in The Railway Series books back in 1946, is going to be appearing in a live-action film for the first time, under Shane Acker, director of the Tim Burton-produced 2009 film, 9, Deadline report.
Thomas and his friends have been on our television screens since way back in 1984, and are still running today, and they’ve been the top-selling toys for pre-school children on both sides of the Atlantic for a decade.
Naturally, giving the director’s job to Acker will come as quite a bit of a surprise to some, given that his first feature film was set in a post-apocalyptic world. Acker himself, however, has said that he plans to open up the film’s audience to appeal to an older age as well, and has said how becoming a father has opened up his eyes to new possibilities in his filmmaking career:

The Thomas the Tank Engine movie is moving along the track with 9 director Shane Acker signing on to helm. Unlike the PBS TV show, Thomas the Tank Engine will be a live-action film driven by Weta Workshop, the special effect company behind Lord of the Rings and the effects in Avatar. The film has lots of credibility behind it. The script comes from Alvin and the Chipmunks writers Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb and Shrek the Third writer Josh Klausner. Charlotte's Web's Julia Pistor will produce. Currently, the film doesn't have a studio home other than the folks who make the TV show, Hit Entertainment.

Shane Acker made his feature directorial debut in 2009 with 9, which was the culmination of years of work that began with the short film of the same title, released in 2005. The former Weta animator (he worked on The Return of the King) didn't get the best reception with 9, but it certainly has fans, thanks in part to some excellent character designs. Now he's back with a very different sort of movie. We don't have a title for the film yet, but it takes place in Sodor, which readers with young children will be able to identify as the home of Thomas the Tank Engine. Deadline [1] says that Weta and Mattel are working on the film, with a script by Chris Viscardi & Will McRobb and Josh Klausner. Shane Acker seems like a weird choice; 9 was a much darker film than anything set in Sotor will have to be. The director says he...

Shane Acker, who helmed the 2009 animated feature "9", is set to direct a live action theatrical film adaptation of "Thomas the Tank Engine" for Hit Entertainment reports Deadline.
The story revolves around a pre-teen boy who has drifted apart from his father. The son is introduced into Sodor, the island of talking trains where Thomas is among a litany of characters It's a place his father visited as a child but can't remember. From that comes a "bonding experience" says Acker.
The movie aims to launch a line of older-skewing movies and toys that will try and refocus the 65 year old brand out of the pre-school market and into slightly older territory.
Chris Viscardi, Will McRobb and Josh Klausner penned the script while Weta Workshop and Mattel's entertainment properties design team have joined the creative team.

All aboard! Hit Entertainment has hired Shane Acker to direct a live-action film based on the cartoon and toys of Thomas the Tank Engine. The film’s setting will be based in Sodor, an island of talking trains. Thomas will be the main character for the film. Acker’s last film was with the 2009’s animation film “9,” which starred Elijah Wood, Jennifer Connelly and Crispen Glover. It was also his directorial debut. The film cost $33 million and only grossed over $31 million domestically in 2009. Thomas the Tank Engine was based on The Railway Series books written by Reverend W. Awdry and his son, Christopher. It eventually evolved into a television series in 1984. The toy line is one of the best selling preschool toys in the United States and United Kingdom. “I’m a recent father, with a 20-month old daughter,” said Acker to Deadline. “We lead such busy lives in Hollywood,...

Hey Sandy! --"Hey Sandy," Polaris If you were in school in the mid-1990s, you may remember those lyrics -- including the impossible-to-understand third line -- as the theme song to one of the strangest shows in the history of Nickelodeon: "The Adventures of Pete & Pete." It was a suburban story about the life of two redheaded brothers, both named Pete. The show was a mixture of surrealist humor, rock music, offbeat cameos, and a deeply compassionate look at growing up. It still might be the best show Nickeleodeon ever aired. I recently spoke to co-creator Will McRobb about the show, and the musical sensibility that informed it. Facts of interest: Based on the book by Kate Dicamillo.
The plot: Despereaux is a coureagous little mouse who is ordered to enter the scary Ratland, where he embarks on an adventure to save an entire kingdom.
Our thoughts: I found it nearly impossible to sit through “The Tale of Despereaux” without repeatedly checking the time. The big-screen adaptation of Kate Dicamillo’s beloved book could and should have been an energetic and touching family adventure, but instead, it’s nothing but a lifeless, simplistic bore that falls flat both in terms of story and characters.

The plot: Despereaux is a coureagous little mouse who is ordered to enter the scary Ratland, where he embarks on an adventure to save an entire kingdom.

The big-screen adaptation of Kate Dicamillo’s beloved book could and should have been an energetic and touching family adventure, but instead, it’s nothing but a lifeless, simplistic bore that falls flat both in terms of story and characters.

Directors Sam Fell (“Flushed Away”) and Rob Stevenhagen (His credits include “Wallace & Gromit:...
