While attending McM London Comic Con back in May we went to as many panels as possible. We got to check out the creators of a Scottish based web series called Cops and Monsters, who were kicking off there crowdfund that weekend. Monkey Tennis Podcast were recording a live show. Reflecting on the launch of Homefront: The Revolution, Deep Silver Marketing Director Paul Nicholls conceded that the sequel was “less of a success” than the publisher had anticipated, and attributes much of that to a poorly timed release.
Homefront: The Revolution emerged from a tortured four-year development back in May, during which time the open-world sequel was heavily criticized for its drab environments and forgettable story, not to mention the scores of technical issues that reared their head soon after launch. Developer Dambuster, who inherited The Revolution from Crytek UK following financial woes, addressed those glitches and bugs head-on but for many, the damage was already done.
It’s for this reason that Nicholls believes Deep Silver has “learnt some big lessons” from Homefront: The Revolution, not just in terms of quality but also how timing can impact a game’s staying power, for better or worse.
“We have learnt some big lessons from Homefront.

Sheridan Smith stars alongside actor Paul Nicholls in the one-off 90-minute drama.
The drama is based on the real-life experiences of Lisa Lynch, who published a book about her battle with breast cancer.
Smith stars as Lynch, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 33 after assisting in the casting of the actress.
"Her zest for life was infectious," said Smith. "I was moved and inspired by her courage and bravery. I couldn't help but love her. That's why I want to tell her story.
"I'm so sad that Lisa won't get to see the finished drama, having been so involved in the development of it. I'm honoured and humbled that she wanted me to play her on screen, and I hope that I will make her proud."
The first pictures of Smith playing Lynch were released earlier this month.

Law and Order: UK is British television's most underrated crime drama.
Returning to ITV tonight for its eighth series, the popular procedural remains a hit with viewers - having consistently pulled in 5-6m viewers since it launched in 2009 - yet receives only passing attention from critics and rarely attracts any major awards recognition.
Law and Order: UK is now ITV's old stalwart - a reliable performer guaranteed to bring in an audience and exactly the sort of safe bet the channel could bank on to fill a gap in 2013 when its supernatural series Eternal Law, expected to be a long-runner, failed to secure a second series.
But why isn't the show held in higher esteem? It's possible that the Law & Order mantle is as much a blessing as a curse. It delivers brand recognition, yet ties to the now-departed Us series might lead some to dismiss the...

It was only recently that the trials and tribulations of an elderly, British couple attempting to reignite their marriage in France was explored, in Roger Michell’s Paris-set Le Week-end. Now director Virginia Gilbert’s presents her feature film debut A Long Way From Home, following similar themes yet doing so in the tranquil, pacifying setting of Nimes in the South of France. It’s these very surroundings which marks the key difference between the two movies, as this is without that sharp wit and anarchic ambiance, and instead is a more pensive, slow-burning take on this intriguing narrative.
Beginning much as it intends to carry on, A Long Way From Home is somewhat sparse in dialogue in the opening quarter of an hour, marking the sign of an assured, confident filmmaker. The couple in question are the retired Joseph (James Fox) and Brenda (Brenda Fricker), with the former evidently at a loss,...

★★☆☆☆Opening to a glorious, sun-dappled French townscape before setting the tone of things to come with a clumsy, crossword led allusion to Joanna Hogg's vaguely comparable upper middle-class drama Archipelago (2011), debut director Virginia Gilbert's existential exploration of expat life, A Long Way from Home (2013), actually has far more in common with Roger Michell's Le Week-End (2013). Here, James Fox and Brenda Fricker are the sniping British couple growing old uncomfortably, whose lives are complicated by the introduction of a young, holidaying couple, played by Natalie Dormer and Paul Nicholls.

First-time director Virginia Gilbert does lovely things with the Provençal light, but her tale of English expats lacks Joanna Hogg's savage honesty
Presumably first-time writer-director Virginia Gilbert (daughter of Brian Gilbert, Wilde) was aiming to make something oblique and fragile about Brits abroad, in the style of Joanna Hogg (Unrelated, Archipelago). She even hired Hogg's cinematographer, Ed Rutherford. But this slight, conventional tale has nothing of Hogg's rigorous formalism or savage honesty. James Fox and Brenda Fricker play one of those middle-class English couples who've retired to France and act all proprietorial about the place even though, in Brenda's case, they barely speak the language. Their marriage has been becalmed by routine, so when Fox meets feline-featured Natalie Dormer, he offers, with a little too much chivalry, to show her and her jerk of a boyfriend (Paul Nicholls) around Nîmes. Rutherford does lovely things with the Provençal light, but...

Stars: James Fox, Brenda Fricker, Natalie Dormer, Paul Nicholls | Written and Directed by Virginia Gilbert
Review by Andrew MacArthur of Cinehouse
Virginia Gilbert directs A Long Way from Home, a graceful dramatic feature based on her own short story of the same. Gilbert provides us with a rich palette of fascinating characters and breathtaking locations in this often touching and hugely charming tale of desire in old age.
Long married couple Joseph (Fox) and Brenda (Fricker) have retired to the French town of Nimes and live quiet, routine lives. However, Joseph is becoming restless in the banality of this routine – something that is challenged by the arrival of vibrant young couple, Suzanne (Dormer) and Mark (Nicholls).
Gilbert’s feature is a graceful look at desire in old age – seen through Joseph’s gradual infatuation by the young Suzanne. However, this is a desire for an emotional connection and sense of...

The weather might finally be starting to perk up, but is it really worth going outside if you're going to miss out on some great telly? No, is the answer.
Tube Talk won't rest until we've convinced all of you to slip off your slip-on summer shoes and slob in the front of the telly, and what better way is there to do that than share goss on great shows like Parks and Recreation and Law & Order: UK in our weekly Q&A?
I've seen the adverts for the new series of Law & Order: UK - when's it on?
Oh yes, you've not got long to wait now until the famous Dun DUNs! Bradley Walsh will be taking a break from laughing about Fanny Chmelar with 'The Governess' and flexing his acting muscles once again in the seventh series of Law & Order: UK, which returns Sunday, July 14 at 9pm on ITV.

Any news on if Sarah Chalke's new comedy show How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) will be aired in the UK?
It's not entirely outside the realms of possibility for Chalke's new show - which sees the Scrubs star play a single mother forced to move back in with her parents - to be picked up by a UK broadcaster, but we'd say it's pretty darn unlikely.
Having aired just six episodes in the Us, the show has already been canned by ABC - it'll probably finish out its 13-episode run,...

Paul Nicholls has reportedly quit ITV drama Law & Order: UK.
The former EastEnders actor will leave the show midway through its upcoming seventh series as Junior Detective Sergeant Samuel 'Sam' Casey, according to The Sun.
Nicholls's character will depart in a dramatic storyline in the drama's sixth episode when the show returns later this year.
"There are no plans for him to return," an insider said.
A spokesman for Law & Order: UK confirmed that the actor would leave the production in the spring.
"Due to other work commitments, Paul Nicholls was only ever available to film the first six episodes of Law & Order: UK series seven," the spokesman explained.
Nicholls joined Law & Order: UK soon after being axed from the BBC's Waterloo Road due to alleged "erratic behaviour".
Law & Order: UK was renewed for a seventh series by ITV back in August.

Deep Silver revealed a new UK exclusive special edition of Dead Island Riptide today dubbed the Zombie Bait Edition. Where the North American Rigor Mortis Edition of the game contained a bunch of mundane items that fans voted for (zombie hula girl bobble-head, zombie-arm bottle opener, and a branded keychain), the Zombie Bait Edition kicks things up several notches… and not in a way that anyone would have ever voted for.
Alongside a special Steelbook edition of Dead Island Riptide, some artwork cards, and a pack of exclusive in-game weapon mods, the Zombie Bait Edition has as its center-piece a 31cm tall extremely bloody female torso dressed in a UK Union Jack bikini top and bottom.
