Universal has signed a two-year first-look film deal with Robert Kirkman's Skybound Entertainment. Kirkman, the prolific comic book writer and creator of popular AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead, founded the comic book publishing imprint in 2010. It's under the umbrella of Image Comics, of which Kirkman is a partner. All of Kirkman's own comic book creations, including The Walking Dead, The Astounding Wolf-Man, Outcast and Invincible, are under the Skybound label. The imprint also publishes outside work including Witch Doctor by writer Brandon Seifert and artist Lukas Ketner. Kirkman partnered with longtime collaborator, and fellow executive producer of The Walking Dead, David Alpert in the endeavor. “In high school I watched Army of Darkness pretty

Legendary Comics has announced adaptations of Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat and the upcoming Krampus.
The horror films will be adapted into two graphic novels by Fiona Staples, Mark Andreyko, Brandon Seifert and more.
Trick 'r Treat will be written by Andreyko with art by Staples, Zid, Stuart Sayger and Stephen Byrne.
It follows in the vein of the film with four more horror-themed tales.
Writer Seifert will be joined by artists Michael Montenat, Stuart Sayger, Maan House and Christian Dibari on Krampus.
It is inspired by the horror comedy about the ancient Christmas demon and his "maniacal holiday-themed henchmen".
Dougherty devised the stories for both books with Zach Shields and Todd Casey.
"I've been having way too much fun working with Legendary and the rest of my team bringing the ancient legend of Krampus to the big screen, and I look forward to expanding the film's dark Christmas mythology onto the comic page,...

The Fly: Outbreak #1
Writer: Brandon Seifert
Artist: Menton3
Publisher: Idw Entertainment
Price: $4
Description: Years ago, a scientist had a horrific accident when he tried to use his newly invented teleportation device and became a human/fly hybrid. Now his almost-human son continues to search for a cure for the mutated genes. But a breakthrough turns into a breakout, and anyone exposed risks turning into a monster as well…
Our Take: Writer Brandon Seifert did well with his Witch Doctor comic but his most recent title, The Harvester, hasn’t fared as well. I have to add that I read an interview with Seifert recently in which he admitted that he didn’t handle gore well. I’m definitely taken aback by this. The guy seems to be catering almost exclusively to the horror fandom, yet he hadn’t even seen Either of The Fly movies before working on this comic?...

One stalks the streets as trick-or-treaters ring doorbells and handfuls of candy are given away. Another visits naughty children's homes on Christmas Eve with the intention of gobbling the little terrors. Holiday creatures Sam and Krampus are celebrated and feared and are featured in the films of Michael Dougherty, the former in 2007's Trick ’r Treat (as well as the in-development Trick ’r Treat 2) and the latter in the upcoming Krampus. Looking to dive deeper into the rich worlds of these two holiday enforcers, the folks at Legendary Comics have announced Trick ’r Treat and Krampus graphic novels that are slated to hit comic shop shelves later this year:

The start of The Harvester plays out like a horror movie you’d catch at 2am on Wgn - you know, the one they show after Road House finishes. It has that same vibe, starting at some dive bar full of rapscallions that you know will either get sliced up, eaten, or if they are lucky, just die off-screen. True to form, that is pretty much what happens here, as an unkillable (at least at this point) urban myth comes to life and eviscerates a biker gang, and then disappears into the ground. While that setup might not shock anyone, that isn’t the most intriguing part of the character. That honor belongs to the man in grey, who acts as a harbinger of sorts to the Harvester’s appearances. Later in the book, you catch a glimpse...

Today sees the release of The Harvester #1, the first issue in a brand new series from Legendary Comics. It’s being written by Brandon Seifert, who should be no stranger to Daily Dead readers, as we’ve covered his work on the Witch Doctor and Hellraiser comic book series.
With The Harvester, Seifert tackles a new kind of hero that’s more like a supernatural urban legend than he is Superman. During our interview, I learned about how researching Bloody Mary helped with developing The Harvester, working with Eric Battle, and his plan for the character over the first ten issues:
In the first issue of The Harvester, you do a really great job of playing up the urban legend angle of the character. Can you talk about what went into creating your own urban legend with The Harvester?
Brandon Seifert: Most people view The Harvester as an urban legend.

If you read horror comics, then there’s a good chance that you know of Brandon Seifert’s work. Co-creator of both the Witch Doctor and Spirit of the Law series, Seifert’s unique storytelling has appeared on the paneled pages of big name titles like Doctor Who and Hellraiser: The Road Below, and soon readers can get acquainted with his latest dark adventure: The Harvester. Hitting shelves from Legendary Comics on February 11th, The Harvester combines supernatural elements with historical happenings, and we have an early look at Eric Battle’s cover art for the first issue.

There was a movie sequel to David Cronenberg’s incredible 1986 reinvention of The Fly, and now a comic book seeks to another sequel storyline. The Fly: Outbreak is from Idw, and writer Brandon Seifert (writer of Boom! Studios’ Hellraiser comics) and artist menton3. The comic series is an original story, seemingly not based on Fly sequel ideas Cronenberg was toying […]

David Cronenberg's 1986 creature feature classic "The Fly" is getting a comic book sequel.
Brandon Seifert ("Hellraiser," "Witch Doctor") is penning the five-issue miniseries entitled "The Fly: Outbreak" which follows the almost-human son of Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) who is trying to find a cure for his mutated genes.
He appears to discover a breakthrough, but it's one that anyone exposed to risks being turned into a monster as well. Artist menton3 ("Silent Hill," "Monocyte") will paint the interior and cover art.
It sounds as though the film will ignore the events of the actual film sequel, 1989's "The Fly II," which Cronenberg wasn't involved with. Renny Harlin developed another sequel called "Flies" which never filmed, while Cronenberg was said to be considering a sequel recently - one that was deemed "too radical" by the studio.

Like Jurassic Park would do years later, David Cronenberg’s The Fly showed that if you tamper too much with science, your experiments can destroy you. Later this month, we’ll see the release of a brand new Hellraiser comic book mini-series. This time, the series will go with an anthology format, giving us new tales in the Hellraiser universe from a variety of popular and upcoming writers. The first issue contains the start of a six-part serial written by Mark Miller and Ben Meares, where a group sets out to steal Pinhead’s pins, and I caught up with both of them for the latest installment of our Q&A series.
We’ve seen a number of limited Hellraiser comic book series from Boom! and Clive Barker. How did the idea for this anthology series come about? Was it something that you pitched to Clive?
Ben Meares: Hellraiser, in my mind, has always had a certain magic to it because the rules of the mythos can be applied to almost any kind of story.
Mark Miller: Right.

All of the macabre mayhem, gun blasts, katana sword slashes, and touching human drama that unfolds on AMC’s The Walking Dead would not be possible had Robert Kirkman not created such a riveting zombie-ridden world in The Walking Dead comic book series, packed with engaging stories brought to life by artist Charlie Adlard. What a year for horror comics! There's been so much to read. We've seen Hellboy wander around hell (after killing the devil). We've seen Rick Grimes and company struggle along against a demented foe in The Walking Dead. Hell, we've even seen Kiss fight off the martians from Mars Attacks (though we really wish we didn't). Now let's take a moment and look back on our favorite "single issues" from the past year. We don't mean a comic series as a whole - just the single comic book issue in and of itself. From one-shots to standout issues… it's time to hone in on our fanaticism!

Always a fan-favorite during the large comic and pop culture shows like San Diego or New York Comic Con’s and C2E2 is Marvel’s Cup O’ Joe panel featuring Marvel Comics Cco Joe Quesada. Quesada frequently hosts these panels alongside other Marvel creators as a way to announce new projects and create an interactive experience to share with fans. This past weekend’s Cup O’ Joe panel during New York Comic Con had the normal mix of announcements and talent, if not a little weak on the spectacle.
Last year’s panel at New York featured a surprise appearance by Clark Gregg, the actor who plays Agent Coulson on the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Surprises like this are what drive fans to these panels. Fans have an expectation of being a part of something, or being given an exclusive look into the future. Trailers for upcoming films,...

New comic book Wednesday has come and gone. The dust at your local comic shop has settled. An eerie silence descends as you finish reading your last superhero book of the week. Now it's time for something a little more sinister. Welcome to Bagged and Boarded: comic reviews of the sick, spooky, twisted and terrifying!
Morbius: The Living Vampire No. 8
Morbius has been tricked. He's been lied to, he's hurt people, and now Brownsville's about to pay for his mistakes. Or so it seems. A villain in a full face mask named The Rose has an Ultimate Nullifier, a sort of pocket device of great power, force, and destruction. He's just blown up part of Brownsville, and now Morbius has to overcome his own self-loathing and fight back.
Bag it or board it up? I'm from the generation, now not as young as we wish we were, that grew up watching the Spider-Man animated series.

With a healthy mix of Doctor Who and Lovecraft, Witch Doctor won over horror fans almost instantly when it made its debut in 2011. The latest miniseries recently wrapped up and I spoke with Brandon Seifert at Comic-Con to learn about the chances of an ongoing series, fan feedback, and his interest in a Witch Doctor TV series:
Were you and Skybound happy with the sales and reaction to Mal Practice. Are they interested in new issues?
Brandon Seifert: Yeah, Skybound is certainly happy with it. They’ve been asking me about when I’m going to write the next one. Right at this second, I’m doing a bunch of other work. I love Witch Doctor, but I’m not quite sure when I’ll have enough cleared off my plate that I can start working on it again.

Brandon Seifert is a writer who takes comic books to an interesting and very different place, as one of the more notable names in the horror genre of the medium.
His best-known work is "Witch Doctor" published by Skybound Entertainment, which likely isn't anything like what the name brings to mind. He sat down with Zap2it at Comic-Con 2013 to talk about that comic, as well as another he's working on called "Spirit of the Law."
"Witch Doctor" is a unique idea, crossing the medical drama standard with a healthy dose of monsters. "Sort of if Dr. House fought supernatural diseases like vampirism, demonic possession, stuff like that," Seifert says.
He's not kidding when he references "House," as even Seifert admits the main character, Dr. Vincent Morrow is a "brilliant jerk doctor." He "approaches the supernatural from a medical/scientific perspective and trying to figure out what's the causative agent of vampirism,...

If there was ever a mythology that seemed tailor-made for a horror film franchise, it’s the one Clive Barker created in his novella The Hellbound Heart. Barker must have thought so as well, as the film version, Hellraiser, marked his directing debut. Hellbound: Hellraiser II pushed beyond the original story, and despite a few problems it managed to recognize, and capitalize on, the promise contained in Barker’s original piece. Then came Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, and the wheels began to come off. As the series progressed to the fourth, fifth, and sixth films (and more after that, although I haven’t cared to keep track at this point), this rich and promising mythology got bent, scraped and bruised by a succession of hacks who turned in one direct-to-video disaster after another. It seemed that everyone who was getting money to make a Hellraiser movie was missing the...

The new issue of Witch Doctor will be released tomorrow and concludes the Mal Practice mini-series. If you’d like a sneak peek before the issue hits stores, we have a 6-page preview you can read right now. For those not familiar with Witch Doctor, it’s a medical horror series from Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment, written by Brandon Seifert, with art by Lukas Ketner:
“It’s a sick world. Literally — the universe is an organism, and the creatures of myth and folklore are invading parasites, preying on the native species and disrupting the ordered systems of the world.
It’s a sick world, and Dr. Vincent Morrow’s here to treat it. Headhunted into an exciting new career in the black arts after his excommunication from the medical community, Morrow serves the world with both hands — one in magic, one in medicine — as earth’s protector. Earth’s Witch Doctor.

Fans of Clive Barker have plenty to look forward to this year. He’s working with Brandon Seifert on the ongoing Hellraiser comic book series, and Boom! Studios just announced that he’ll be writing a brand new original comic book series, titled Next Testament:
“April 22, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA – This May, Boom! Studios is honored to be the home of the first original comic series created and written by Clive Barker himself – Clive Barker’S Next Testament. With interior art by Haemi Jang (Hellraiser: The Road Below) and covers by illustrator Goni Montes, the twelve issue comic event is a bold new exploration of religious themes as only Barker can deliver.
Julian Demond, captain of industry, has left behind everything to begin a walkabout — he believes he’s on a mission from God. While in the wasteland, he comes across a figure unlike any other, who calls himself Wick…and claims to be God.

Over the past few years, Mark Miller has established a close working relationship with Clive Barker: he’s the co-head of Barker’s production company, Seraphim Films; he served as assistant editor on Barker’s third Abarat novel, Absolute Midnight, and is editing the author’s eagerly-anticipated book The Scarlet Gospels; and he’s been instrumental in getting the director’s cut of Barker’s film Nightbreed in front of audiences.
On the comics front, Miller wrote several issues of the latest incarnation of Hellraiser for Boom! Even with this obviously busy schedule, Miller was kind enough to take a few moments to chat with FEARnet.com about the new series.
