In 2006, Camilla Belle starred as Jill Johnson in When a Stranger Calls, an American psychological horror film directed by Simon West and written by Jake Wade Wall.

The first twenty minutes of the 1979 horror film When a Stranger Calls (watch it Here) really creeped out movie-goers. It stuck in their heads, earning the movie cult classic status. The rest of the running time, viewers don’t often remember so clearly. So when Screen Gems gave the greenlight to a remake, they decided to expand those first twenty minutes to feature length, stretching out the thrills and suspense for as long as possible. It was a clever idea that was brought to the screen in an entertaining way. And if you haven’t seen the When a Stranger Calls remake, this is the best horror movie you never saw. (You can watch that one Here.)
To properly tell the story of this 2006 release, we first have to rewind thirty years. That’s when college friends Fred Walton and Steve Feke sat down to write the script for a...

Delays are bound to happen when making movies, but something was clearly wrong when Amusement was postponed not once but twice in 2008. It wasn’t long before John Simpson’s American directorial debut was removed from the theatrical schedule altogether and then later dropped on DVD that following year. Although going from the big-screen to direct-to-video is an undeserved fate in some cases, this movie’s new destination was understandable. The unfavorable feedback from an early test screening — the word “disastrous” was tossed around — forced Warner Bros to salvage the potential flop now on its hands. Nevertheless, the negative consensus hasn’t stopped Amusement from amassing a small fan base over the years; its followers focus on this panned movie’s few merits rather than its many shortcomings.
At first, Amusement looks to be an anthology; this horror movie’s first three acts are well defined and almost function as standalone short features.

Next year, Blumhouse belatedly delivers Halloween Kills, the second part in their trilogy of Michael Myers movies. 2018’s Halloween was the first installment in the original series – we’re not counting the Rob Zombie remake and its sequel – since 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection. But, once upon a time, there was another film in the franchise that was supposed to be made in the middle – Halloween: The Missing Years.
The brainchild of screenwriter Jake Wade Wall, this would’ve been the next movie after Resurrection but, chronologically, it’d be a prequel. Wall’s idea was to fill in the blanks of the killer’s life, both in terms of his childhood and exploring what exactly happened to him during the events of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, which is unique for being the only Halloween pic that Michael’s not in and Wall’s film would have explained why.

At the turn of the 21st Century, the trend for remaking horror classics really kicked into high gear, and at this stage, every recognizable property under the sun has been remade at least once. In recent years, though, the focus has shifted to ignoring continuity and instead making a direct sequel to the beloved original, which is an approach that worked wonders for David Gordon Green’s Halloween.
Not only did it score the best reviews the franchise had seen in 40 years, but it also blew the box office total of every previous installment out of the water, and Michael Myers is now back in a big way. Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake and the sequel did decent business, but they were soon swept under the rug and quickly forgotten about after any plans for a third entry were abandoned.

Exclusive: It was an explosive and controversial story when it was published in 1948 and still remains so to this day. Shirley Jackson’s classic short story The Lottery, which centers on violence, inhumanity and judgment in a small New England town, is being adapted — for the first time — as a feature film by a producing team led by Kennedy/Marshall at Paramount Pictures. Jake Wade Wall (The Hitcher) is writing the screenplay and author Jackson’s son Laurence Hyman (who runs the estate) is an executive producer on the project.
Frank Marshall, a veteran filmmaker who has, in recent years, produced such features as Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, Jason Bourne and Sully, will produce along with Zero Gravity’s Christine Holder, Andrew Wilson and Mark Holder. Andy Raymer is the exec for the project at Kennedy/Marshall and Liz Raposo and Jon Gonda are sheparding the development at Paramount.

A remake of Adrian Lyne’s Jacob’s Ladder has been brewing over in Hollywood for a few years now, and today, Variety reports that Ld Entertainment have found their lead in Michael Ealy.
Described as more of a reboot of the 1990 film than a straight remake, the project boasts a script from Alison Rosenzweig and Jeff Buhler, who rewrote Jake Wade Wall’s original draft, and has David Rosenthal behind the camera.
Plot details are scarce at this point, but Variety’s report mentions that it will be a “modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” That doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on, but apparently the producers are hoping to “contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions.”

Michael Ealy has joined the cast of the remake of Adrian Lyne's 1990 supernatural thriller "Jacob's Ladder" for Ld Entertainment.
Tim Robbins starred in the original as a Vietnam veteran whose experiences prior to and during the war result in strange flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations that haunt him.
David M. Rosenthal ("The Perfect Guy") directs the new take which has been penned by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp. Jake Wade Wall sold the pitch for this new version which sounds like a distinct change in tone and is described as a "modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers".
Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Jennifer Monroe, Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta will produce with filming to begin mid-May.

We all remember the controversy that surrounded the production of Cabin Fever 2, where director Ti West was met with overwhelming studio-interference, to the point that he tried to have his name removed from the project. I don’t have the second film, but there is no denying that it is “bad”. Still, though it had a somewhat entertaining quality, even if it was a bastardized version of what it was originally intended. After that, there was always talk of a new sequel, and even a reboot, and now that a sequel has actually been produced, it seems as though, instead of making a film that connections to Patient Zero, like they originally intended, they’re going with a reboot of the series instead. Nevertheless, Patient Zero exists, so how does it stack up against the first two films? Well, it is definitely better than Spring Fever, but there is a catch.

When Cabin Fever came out in 2002, it was a sensation among fans of freaky frights. The film packed more than a little punch with its own version of the karate kid, a leg shaving scene that set disposable razor sales back for a year, and a German Shepherd who made Cujo look like a lapdog.
Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever left a legacy hard to live up to, but of course a dumbed-down sequel was released. It was directed by Roth’s Bff Ti West, but one would never guess that after the studio heads got hold of it in the editing room and butchered it.
Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Sinister Cinemas and Raven Banner Entertainment. Director: Kaare Andrews. Writer: Jake Wade Wall. Cast: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton and Jillian Murray. Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero was originally developed as a prequel. This film would be the first in the franchise, followed by Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002) and Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). Later, the script was reworked and the film is the second sequel in the franchise. And really, this is a standalone film as this title has only the loosest connections with the previous two films. This second sequel uses several standard indie horror features, which will be recognizable to most fans. However, actor Sean Astin as Porter offers a few deadly surprises along the way. Also, a few slower moments threaten to derail the momentum of the film,...

In all fairness, director Kaare Andrews could have shown colonoscopy footage for an hour and a half and it still would have entertained viewers longer than Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever managed to – but our ambitious auteur goes above and beyond by delivering a sequel more in line with Roth’s original cult phenomenon. Sure, Rider Strong doesn’t drop in for another “explosive” cameo, but back once again is Roth’s flesh-eating virus, and this time it’s ready for the big leagues. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is a puss-ridden, grotesque, splattery bit of biological horror, and while it lacks the indie charms that wooed franchise fans initially, Andrews’ pseudo-reboot could be the start of something nasty – rivaling Roth’s signature brand of stomach-turning visual horrors.
Since ruining a friendly vacation and eating through a prom, officials are still struggling to contain the hungry virus causing so much devastation.

Although it has little to nothing to do with the original “Cabin Fever” or the Ti West-directed sequel, someone felt the need to incorporate this nasty little virus-oriented thriller into the series. While “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” could easily be a standalone feature, they’re using the “Cabin Fever” name to hook in unsuspecting horror nerds. Okay, okay. I’m probably picking on “Patient Zero” a little too hard. The movie is actually quite disturbing and thoroughly entertaining, especially for a low-budget sequel. The girl-on-girl fight scene at the end of the movie is truly something to behold, especially if you love really good gore. Director Kaare Andrews and writer Jake Wade Wall’s flick probably looks great on the big screen. Image Entertainment recently snapped up North American distribution rights to the flick. If all goes according to plan, then “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” should arrive in a few theaters this summer.

Let's just get it out of the way from the beginning: it'd be really hard to make a worse Cabin Fever (2002) sequel than Cabin Fever 2 (2009). Arguably the only weak movie in Ti West's filmography (and he's not a big fan of it himself), Cabin Fever 2 was the victim of endless studio tinkering, release delays, and really sloppy post-production decisions. The sequel has gone on to earn a small but vocal fanbase, however, and Eli Roth's original squirm-fest continues to bring in new horror geeks all the time. So surely there's some gas left in this franchise's tank, right?
Shockingly... yes! That's not to say that the slow-starting, frequently predictable Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero is some sort of miniature classic, but if you liked Part 1 and you struggled through Part 2, you'll certainly find a few meaty morsels of splatter-laden lunacy in Part 3. Plus it has some of those...

I distinctly remember the hype surrounding the release of the original Cabin Fever movie – written and directed by then newcomer Eli Roth, the film was touted as a new breed of horror, made for genre fans by a genre fan. I also remember when the film was eventually released there was somewhat of a backlash, after all it wasn’t much more than a mix of backwoods horror and “melt movie”. But the film did well enough to warrant a sequel which, after wrangles between director Ti West (House of the Devil) and the films producers – who re-edited the film to such an extent that West disowned the movie, was released in 2009. Kaare Andrews directed the movie and this is said to be the first of two upcoming Cabin Fever sequels, with the next movie being titled Cabin Fever: Outbreak. In Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, a “bachelor party cruise in the Caribbean unexpectedly runs ashore on a medical-research island”. Somehow a deadly virus is unleashed and, as you can probably guess, things won’t turn out well for most of the survivors.

I'm not sure how well a remake of Jacob's Ladder would work, given the fact that so much of the experience is reliant on the twist at the end, but that's not stopping Hollywood from having a go at it. They're calling it an homage, rather than a remake, and a director has just been tapped to helm the project.
Read on for the skinny!
As per The Wrap, James Foley has signed on to direct the so-called homage. Foley was the director of 1992's Glengarry Glen Ross and he has recently directed episodes of Netflix's "House of Cards" and NBC's "Hannibal."
Mickey Liddell and Ld Entertainment’s Jennifer Monroe are producing the project with Michael Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig. Jeff Buhler, who wrote the Clive Barker adaptation The Midnight Meat Train, is penning a script building upon an earlier draft by Jake Wade Wall, the scribe behind the 2006 remake of When a Stranger Calls.

The new take on Jacob's Ladder recruits an interesting director to steer it, as James Foley is appointed to the project...
When we've been talking about the remake/reboot/whatever of RoboCop, our thoughts have been the same. Nobody really wants a new take on a film that was damn near perfect, but if you're going to have one, appointing Elite Squad director Jose Padilha to direct it gets us interested.
A few months ago, the news broke that a second take on Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder was on its way through the Hollywood sausage making machine. And it turns out that this is a project that's very much active. The project reported on earlier this year as a remake of Adrian Lyne's 1990 cult hit Jacob's Ladder , TheWrap today reports that the untitled film , now said to be more of an homage, has found a director in "House of Cards" helmer James Foley. The original film starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran living in New York City named Jacob Singer. Haunted by his past, Singer begins a descent into madness that threatens to blend reality and delusion with the threat of a Dante-inspired damnation. The new take on the property is said to reexamine the themes of the original against a contemporary backdrop. A Jacob's Ladder remake has been put into development.
Ld Entertainment will finance the project and has hired Jeff Buhler to write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is said to be an "homage" rather than a straight adaptation of the 1990 psychological horror.
The original centred around Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran whose life is consumed by strange and terrifying visions.
Buhler is best known for writing the movie adaptation of Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train.
Jake Wade Wall, who worked on the 2006 remake of When a Stranger Calls, provided the first draft of the script.

Not the most obvious choice for a remake, a new version of Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder is in the works...
Well, the remakes keep coming, but every now and then, there's one that just feels a little more unexpected than most. In this case, it's the news that director Adrian Lyne's 1990 movie Jacob's Ladder has been picked up for a new take.
The new version of the film has Jeff Buhler, of The Midnight Meat Train, attached to write the script. As it turns out, this one's been in the works for a while, and Jake Wade Wall, who wrote When A Stranger Calls, has also taken a stab at it. As things stand, there's no director in place, but as we hear more, we'll let you know. The plan, as we understand it, is for it to be more of a 'homage' than a straight remake.
