Congressman Steve Scalise was welcomed with a roaring standing ovation at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. where he threw out the ceremonial first pitch, four months after he was shot and nearly killed on a baseball field.
Before Game 1 of the National League Division Series between the Nationals and Chicago Cubs on Friday, the Louisiana Congressman used a walker and crutch to position himself in front of the pitcher’s mound as he threw the baseball to U.S. Capitol Police officer David Bailey, who was also injured during the June shooting.

The maestro of mules comes across as a modest, giggly sweetheart in a film that handles his achievements with the seriousness they deserve
‘Never take yourself seriously, or you’re finished,” says shoe designer extraordinaire Manolo Blahnik in this documentary about the maestro himself. But the best thing about this bijou, perfectly proportioned fashion doc (a sub-genre in its own right these days) is that, for all its zippy graphics and jaunty music, it actually takes Blahnik seriously, and rightly so. Sure, there are plenty of headshots of famous fashionistas, from Vogue’s Anna Wintour and André Leon Talley to Rihanna and Karlie Kloss, hymning the perfection of his pumps, mules and kitten heels, but there’s also a proper appreciation of his craftsmanship, skill and depth of historical knowledge.
Blahnik is one of the last great hands-on designers who carves heels himself and sculpts the lasts (3D shoe templates) himself.

Picture the 1970s in your head, and chances are a Mick Rock image has come to mind. David Bowie managing to be the sexiest man alive despite a red mullet, a business suit and a saxophone? That’s Mick Rock. Topless Iggy Pop bending over backwards in a moment of rock ’n’ roll abandonment? Mick Rock. Debbie Harry looking like the girl next door (if you live next door to CBGBs circa 1974)? That too was done by certain Mr Michael David Rock. Yes, Rock is his real last name.
With that sort of pedigree, ‘Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock’, a new documentary on Rock’s life, would have probably got four stars if it had just been a few of those pictures on the big screen alongside a few anecdotes about doing drugs with David Bowie. However, director Barney Clay (husband of Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs...

The Queen, 90, who broke the record as the longest-reigning British monarch in September 2015, is now passing another milestone: She’s the first to have a 65th anniversary — aka the sapphire anniversary — on the throne.
So it is fitting that Buckingham Palace celebrated the milestone by re-releasing a portrait taken by British photographer David Bailey where the monarch is wearing a suite of sapphire jewels she received as a wedding day gift from her father, King George VI, in 1947.

A review of the final "Mad Men" season premiere coming up just as soon as I try your veal... "That's not a coincidence! It's a sign!" -Ken "Of what?" -Don "The life not lived." -Ken A handsome man in a grey suit once asked, "But what is happiness? It's a moment before you need more happiness." And at a moment in time when that man and many of the people he worked with seem to have acquired a boatload of professional happiness — or, at least, money — a ghost danced in front of him and sang about how the best things in life are free. And as "Mad Men" returns from its last hiatus, having carried its characters out of the 1960s altogether, "Severance" is a reminder of how elusive happiness is for everyone, and how the life not lived seems at once far more appealing and impossible to actually explore.

However, many riders have struggled to make the transition with any great success. This had led to a constant comparison between American and World Championship competition, and one that can only be made at the Motocross des Nations, an annual one day event.
This has once again been highlighted by recent high profile moves, including Ryan Villopoto’s decision to contest the 2015 Mxgp series. For the first time in years a top American rider is making the decision to pit himself against the world’s best Gp riders.
We see riders move to the States regularly, looking to the more glamorous Supercross and Nationals series’, following childhood dreams of riding the tracks that legend’s such as Rick Johnson, David Bailey and Bob Hannah made their name on.

Looking gorgeous for a long night on the town, Kate Moss attended the David Bailey: Bailey's Stardust viewing at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Monday (February 3).
The British supermodel sported a black top, black pants, and a long gray coat as she later headed to the Groucho club for an after-party and then to the Dorchester Hotel.
At the gallery, the 40-year-old beauty posed in front of an iconic black and white headshot of herself with tousled hair.
Speaking to The Independent about Kate Moss and model Jean Shrimpton, Mr. Bailey shared, "There are many more beautiful girls. But they’ve got this universal, democratic appeal. It’s like Dietrich and Garbo in movies, they’ve just got this thing that makes them stand out."...

Macho and egotistical John Huston dominates Anjelica's vividly written, fascinating memoir
Anjelica Huston's first starring screen role – directed by her father John – was in 1969's A Walk with Love and Death. The only review she quotes in her memoir is John Simon's: "There is a perfectly blank, supremely inept performance by Huston's daughter Anjelica, who has the face of an exhausted gnu, the voice of an unstrung tennis racket, and a figure of no discernible shape."
No preening luvvie, this one. And pace the crass Mr Simon (reviewing her looks rather than her acting) we know Huston is, or became, a good actor. Her performance in The Witches gave my little sister nightmares not for weeks, but years. It turns out that she can also really write. What's more, she has a story to tell.
Huston grew up in an atmosphere of immense privilege and occasional emotional deprivation. This involving memoir falls,...

His flicks "12 Years a Slave" and "The Counselor" are currently in theaters, and during promotions Michael Fassbender scored the cover of Elle UK's December 2013 issue.
While rocking a few poses for the David Bailey-shot spread, the "X-Men: First Class" hunk chatted about his childhood.
Check out a few highlights from Mr. Fassbender's Q&A session below. For more, be sure to visit Elle UK!
On his younger looks:
"I've never really thought of myself as good looking. I think of myself as, you know, alright. I used to be have bad acne as a teenager, so all of this is a bonus now, the fact that I don't have pimples any more. And my hair was also, you know, unfortunate. I had really long hair. I mean, I tied it back most of the time, but I had all these frizzy bits coming off the top. I'm not oblivious to it.

Would you believe that Michael Fassbender never thought of himself as good-looking? Yeah, us either. The brooding actor takes an artistic turn on the cover of Elle UK's December issue, channeling his signature bad-boy attitude in the photos shot by iconic UK photographer David Bailey. In the accompanying sit-down, Michael - whose films The Counselor and 12 Years a Slave are both in theaters now - opened up about being a bit of an ugly ducking growing up, revealing that he had "bad acne" and "unfortunate" hair. He also talked about being accosted by women since becoming famous and revealed whether or not he was asked to strip during his days in drama school. The full interview appears in the December issue of Elle UK - which is on sale Oct. 30 - and is also available as a digital edition; you can see some of Michael's standout quotes below now. On...

Photographer and film-maker who took some of the last shots of Marilyn Monroe
In the summer of 1962 Bert Stern, who has died aged 83, took more than 2,500 photographs of Marilyn Monroe over three sessions held in a Los Angeles hotel. The images captured Monroe in a sometimes pensive but mostly playful mood as she posed nude, variously covered by bedsheets, a chinchilla coat, a stripy Vera Neumann scarf and a pair of chiffon roses. Despite their air of carefree humour, the portraits are inescapably wistful because – along with George Barris's subsequent pictures of Monroe at Santa Monica beach – they are among the last photographs taken of the star. She was found dead at her home several weeks later.
The shoot was for Vogue, which had Stern on a contract that required him to fill 100 fashion pages a year and afforded him an additional 10 pages for personal projects. Stern proposed Monroe as a subject,...

If there is such a thing as the truth of style, Diana Vreeland is the pope of the concept.
On Friday, March 15, at New York's French Institute Alliance Française as part of their Fashion Talks 2013 series, Lisa Immordino Vreeland, director of the documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, spoke about the style icon's discovery of Lauren Bacall, and looked at her early influence on the careers of Twiggy, Penelope Tree, and Anjelica Huston in startling images shot by the 20th century's most distinguished photographers, such as Richard Avedon and David Bailey.
Immordino Vreeland gave context to some of Vreeland's famous quotes: "The best thing about London is Paris," should be seen in combination with her close friendship to Coco Chanel, who was at her fittings. "Three fittings for a nightgown - and I'm not that deformed," she quipped.

Photographer celebrated for his informal portraits of artists, actors and musicians
David Farrell, who has died aged 93, was known primarily for his photographic portraits of the most prominent artists, actors, authors and, particularly, musicians of his time. These ranged from classical performers such as Yehudi Menuhin, Ravi Shankar and Jacqueline du Pré to Louis Armstrong, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. He would take his portable darkroom with him to filming locations, where he photographed Albert Finney, Julie Christie, Laurence Olivier and Ralph Richardson, among others. His main body of work dates from the mid-1950s to the 1980s, by which time he was working primarily in cinema, but he continued with his photography well into the digital age.
Taking Henri Cartier-Bresson's "humanitarian" photography as his model, Farrell specialised in taking portraits in informal situations – he preferred to photograph artists at home or in the studio, rather than in...

Helter Skelter
Directed by Mika Ninagawa
Written by Kyoko Okazaki & Arisa Kaneko
Starring Erica Sawajiri, Angelababy, Kiko Mizuhara, Kaori Momi, Shinobu Terajima
Kyoko Okazaki’s manga Helter Skelter, published by Shoudensha in 2003 was an award winning satire of those particularly kaleidoscopic and ceramic coated dimensions of contemporary Japanese celebrity culture, alongside its elitist associated fashion businesses and boutiques. When second time director Mika Ninagawa was announced as the maestro of the film adaption the fans must have gone wild, as it’s difficult to imagine a more perfect marriage of clothes horse to glamorous kimono, as Ninagawa is one of the finest fashion photographers in Japan, an oriental mesh of David Bailey and Anne Leibowitz, who would be ideally empowered with her unique position within the goldfish bowl of the industry to luminously ridicule its shortcomings and distorted practices. The project was further enhanced with the casting of Erika Sawajiri...

Syfy's 13th Day of Halloween proves dreadfully unlucky for the partygoers and sorority pledges in tonight's original movie, American Horror House. Morgan Fairchild and Alessandra Torresani co-star in this ghostly tale directed by Darin Scott (Femme Fatales, Dark House).
Last week screen icon Morgan Fairchild spoke with reporters about her wide-ranging career, this film and what it was like making it.
She began by revealing her fandom for these kinds of films, which was the primarily reason she agreed to play Ms. Margot here. "I must confess I’m quite a devotee of the Syfy movie channel. I watch Syfy movies on the weekends. I’ve always enjoyed these kinds of fun movies. Even when I'm not at home, my boyfriend knows to record their new nine o'clock movies for me every Saturday. I like monsters and ghosts and I’m a big vampire fan. I loved Dracula and Frankenstein and all of that.

The first-time director on bringing the life of her relative Diana Vreeland, 20th-century fashion superstar, to the big screen
It was while researching a film on her husband's grandmother that Lisa Immordino Vreeland came across the older woman's diaries, held in the New York Public Library.
"At certain periods, she was talking about the need to stand out," Immordino Vreeland recalls. "She would write, aged 12: 'I need to be original.' She knew she had to do something special."

As the editor in chief of Vogue for much of the 1960s, she reinvigorated the fashion world by celebrating uniqueness rather than generic beauty. London, July 13: Legendary photographer David Bailey thinks singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham is a "smart" dresser although he is not a fan of her huge high-heeled shoes.
Bailey says he admires the clothes Victoria wears.
"I think she looks very smart and she dresses a lot better than lots of people like that. I'm not mad about the shoes she wears. They look like they hurt a bit - if you were told you had to.
