Films are available. Then they aren't. Entire film series can be accessed on one day, and then are nowhere to be found the next. The tides roll in, the tides recede. The sun rises, the sun sets. So it goes with streaming.
Thanks to the Writers Strike of 2023, and the revelation that exclusive in-studio streaming services aren't an entirely viable business model, it's become more important than ever to keep tabs on what might be available on notable services in any given week. Sadly, no streaming service purports to be a permanent archive of film and TV, and even the most deeply branded properties are now being shopped around outside of their home studios; to some, it may feel strange that "Merry Little Batman" debuted on Prime Video rather than the expected Warner Bros.-owned Max streaming service. It seems that the most logical way streaming services can move forward...

The Tony Awards may not have had any writers on Sunday night due to the ongoing strike, but host Ariana DeBose and some presenters had some pretty quick jokes off the cuff — including Denée Benton. She brought the house down when she referred to Florida governor Ron DeSantis as “the current Grand Wizard” in the state.
The moment came when Benton took the stage to present this year’s Excellence in Theatre Education Award from Carnegie Mellon University. The honor went to Jason Zembuch Young, who teaches at at South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida.
“And while I am certain that the current Grand Wizard — I’m sorry, excuse me, governor of my home state of Florida…” Benton prefaced.

David Lynch does not like talking about his movies. He’d prefer the work speak for itself, thank you very much. But in bending over backwards to avoid discussing what something might “mean,” or deflecting questions with humor and/or cryptic pronunciations, the Blue Velvet filmmaker occasionally drops a breadcrumb hint about what makes him creatively tick. An audience member at a Q&a once asked Lynch whether there was a connection between The Wizard of Oz and the movie he’d just screened, Mullholland Drive. His reply: “There’s...

Earlier this month, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announced a new album called PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation. Now, they’ve shared more details about the project, due out June 16th, and revealed its first single, “Gila Monster.”
To give you an idea of its meandering quality, PetroDragonic Apocalypse is a seven-track double album. Thematically, it’s about “humankind and it’s about planet Earth but it’s also about witches and dragons and shit,” as King Gizzard leader Stu Mackenzie puts it, while sonically, it recalls the thrash metal of 2019 fan favorite Infest The Rats’ Nest.
“When we made Rats’ Nest, it felt experimental,” Mackenzie said. “Like, ‘Here’s this music that some of us grew up on but we’d never had the guts or confidence to really play before, so let’s give...

Somewhere over the rainbow, two former college roommates battle it out as opposing witches.
The first footage for the highly anticipated “Wicked” movie musical debuted during 2023 CinemaCon. The footage was introduced by Universal chairman Donna Langley, who stressed that the footage on display was very much a work in progress and not “ready for the big screen.”
Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba, who later becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West due to bad P.R. Ariana Grande embodies Glinda, dubbed the Good Witch after the duo’s personal falling out. We got to see the first shots of Erivo all in green as Elphaba, but it also shows the early renderings of the Emerald City, the Yellow Brick Road, flying monkeys and a glimpse of Dorothy. If you were among those eagerly awaiting a look at Wicked film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in full witchy getup as Elphaba and Glinda, director Jon M. Chu has taken to Instagram to offer the first official images. We wouldn't say they're the clearest of pictures, but it's all part of teasing the two-part movie. Take a look:
Wicked, in case you weren't already aware, was originally drawn from Gregory Maguire's novel, which tells the untold story of Galinda and Elphaba, the witches from The Wizard Of Oz. The movie comes via the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and Academy Award winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz.
Erivo's Elphaba is the young witch who will go on to become the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, but who is seriously misunderstood. Grande, meanwhile, plays the ambitious, popular Glinda (changing her name slightly).
The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero,...

Dungeons & Dragons series: Drew Crevello joins the party as showrunner of the live-action adaptation
The Dungeons & Dragons series is gaining another party member in Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) as the showrunner of the live-action adaptation for Paramount+. Crevello will work closely with Rawson Marshall Thurber, who wrote the pilot script and will direct the first episode. The eight-episode series is a co-production between eOne and Paramount Pictures, with eOne leading the charge.
According to Deadline’s previous report, “Adapting Dungeons & Dragons for television has been a major focus for eOne under President of Global Television Michael Lombardo following the company’s 2019 acquisition by Hasbro. The live-action series has been tipped to be the studio’s largest-scope TV project ever, potentially launching a Dungeons & Dragons universe spanning multiple scripted and unscripted shows.”
Deadline would also like to remind us that Dungeons & Dragons is “a fantasy role-playing game franchise. Featuring humans, elves, orcs, and other fantastical creatures engaging in wars, treasure hunts, and campaigns,...

We’re just one week away from the March 31st theatrical release date of Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise – and just in case the positive reviews (there’s a bunch of them quoted in the final trailer) haven’t convinced someone to see the movie, Paramount is now using the Freaks and Geeks connection to try to lure in viewers. In the new ad that you can check out in the Twitter embed below, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves director John Francis Daley is reunited with Samm Levine and Martin Starr, his co-stars from the short-lived but beloved TV series Freaks and Geeks, which went off the air twenty-three years ago after just one season.

This article contains spoilers for "Shazam: Fury of the Gods."
Who bought Skittles from the concession stand prior to enjoying "Shazam: Fury of the Gods" in theaters this weekend? If you didn't, the movie itself attempts to brainwash us into buying Skittles — or at least buying them as a viable plot device.
On the one hand, it is admittedly funny when "Fury of the Gods" likens the rainbow-colored candy to ambrosia, the nectar of the gods. Steeped in both DC superhero mythology and pop Greek mythology, the movie builds up unicorns as a fearsome, misanthropic threat, only for the youngest member of the Shazamily, Darla Dudley (Faithe Herman), to entice one out of the darkness with Skittles. Having a cute kid sell the idea that Skittles hath charms to soothe the savage beast is an amusing flourish.

This post contains spoilers for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods."
Despite mixed reviews and a less-than-super opening weekend at the box office, "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is an enjoyable, largely guilt-free moviegoing experience for the better part of two hours. Things get bumpier toward the end, but this wouldn't be the first superhero film to suffer from third act problems. It's when the movie shoehorns in a certain cameo, tacking it on at the very end in the least elegant way possible, that it starts to feel like "Fury of the Gods" has gone a little off the rails.
The cameo was revealed by a TV spot days before the movie's release, leading director David F. Sandberg to tweet, "Well there's some big 'Shazam' spoilers out there now. If you want to go in fresh maybe don't be online or watch TV with ads." What's so egregious about said...

This post contains minor spoilers for The Flash movie.
Everyone talks about Batman, Spider-Man, and the X-Men when talking about the great rogues galleries in superhero comics. But the Flash belongs up there with the rest of them. Even before writer Geoff Johns made the Rogues into a sympathetic team of lovable losers during his early 2000s run, Captain Cold, the Pied Piper, and the Weather Wizard were among the most interesting baddies that cape comics had to offer.
So with Barry Allen set to make his big-screen solo (not really solo) movie debut in this year’s The Flash, fans were a little surprised to hear rumors that Dark Flash would be the primary villain, alongside Man of Steel bad guy General Zod. But thanks to a merchandising leak (via The Direct), we now have confirmation that Barry will indeed be fighting a much more intense version of himself in the Dark Flash.

Prepare for an earlier return to Oz.
“Wicked,” Universal’s big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, is landing in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024 — a month ahead of schedule. The movie was initially scheduled to open on Dec. 25, but the studio felt it would be better positioned around Thanksgiving compared to Christmas.
Though the release calendar will change over the next two years, there’s currently only a Disney Animation placeholder on the docket during Thanksgiving of 2024. By comparison, Christmastime is stacked with “Avatar 3” (a sequel to the third-highest grossing movie in history), as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
Jon M. Chu is directing “Wicked,” which has been split into two parts. For now, the second installment is set to release a year later on Dec. 25, 2025. (There aren’t any “Avatar” sequels planned for 2025… at the moment.)

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 12
The Simpsons season 34 episode 12 “My Life as a Vlog,” highlights the family’s addiction to clickbait, which could be seen as a grasp for relevancy in an Instagram world, but is really a ratings grab because YouTube is easier to satirize and monetize. It’s not quite the latest thing, but it’s not passe, and it’s more fun to navigate.
“My Life as a Vlog” resembles “Lisa the Boy Scout,” because it is pieced together by snippets of the interconnecting, but standalone, clips which propel the Simpson family into a viral sensation, so much so their ratings move the family to a much bigger house. But the installment is presented as a reality show, because it allows more recognizable reference points, and The Simpsons have not yet had their fill of milking the tropes. It’s obviously designed to irritate,...

It’s a race to the top as the contestants build tall, strong and stylish castles using only regular bricks. Medieval minifigures selected from a hat determine the theme of each team’s castle. The team that builds the tallest castle is safe from elimination. However, none of the castles are safe from the judges’ wrecking ball that ultimately decides the best execution of the challenge in the all-new “Wrecking Balls to the Walls” episode of “Lego Masters” airing Wednesday, Nov. 23 (9:02-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox.
In Season 3, Emmy nominee Will Arnett returns, guiding Lego enthusiasts through a brick blasting Season 3. With infinite possibilities and an unlimited supply of Lego bricks, teams of two compete against each other in all new brick-building challenges for a 100,000 cash prize, the ultimate Lego trophy and the grand title of Lego Masters. Brickmasters Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard return as judges.

After transforming into David Cronenberg’s Brundlefly, running from dinosaurs, and flirting with the “Lord of Thunder” in Thor: Ragnarok, Jeff Goldblum is riding a hot air balloon to the Land of Oz! Variety reports the meme-worthy is in final negotiations to play the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in Jon M. Chu’s theatrical adaptation of the musical Wicked.
The cast of Wicked includes Ariana Grande as Glinda, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, and Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero. The presentation is a two-part theatrical event, with films debuting in theaters on Christmas 2024 and 2025.
“As we prepared the production over the past year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it. As we tried to cut songs of trim characters, those decisions felt like fatal compromises to the source material that has...

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for the movie "Black Adam."
"Black Adam" has finally arrived in theaters after a 15-year roller coaster of development hell, but was it worth the wait? Critics are mixed — you can see what /Film's own Witney Seibold thought about the film in his "Black Adam" review — while audiences seem far more receptive to the newest DC Extended Universe entry. Both agree that Dwayne Johnson is great as the titular hero, combining subtle dry humor with the stoicism of an antihero straight out of a Sergio Leone Western. Johnson has called this film a labor of love, and his passion and enthusiasm explode on the screen. He's having a ball; by default, most audience members will, too.
In addition to Black Adam, it's exciting to see classic heroes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) make their big-screen debut.

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
The Rings of Power has turned out to be a show full of mysteries to solve. Sure, we know where things are inevitably headed — Dark Lord Sauron will rise in the dark land of Mordor and the Elves and Men of Middle-earth must work together to defeat him — but how we get there is the real story of the Amazon series.
How did Sauron manipulate the other races of Middle-earth into forging the Rings of Power? What does the Dwarves discovering mithril have to do with the future of the Elves? Who are the people who lived in the Southlands before it became Mordor? What was the life of a Hobbit like before they settled in the Shire? These are the questions the first season of The Rings of Power is interested in answering, all while creating...

This post contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode six
Six episodes in, the greatest strength of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been its relatively low stakes. Instead of focusing on universe-destroying villains found in the movies, or even the wayward gods and crime kingpins found in Moon Knight or Hawkeye, She-Hulk‘s most consistent antagonist has been Titania, a superpowered influencer who does evil for the likes. But in episode six, the show introduced a team who may be a driving force in Phase Five of the MCU.
At first glance, “Just Jen” follows the model set by previous She-Hulk episodes, splitting time between Jen contending with a bridezilla and Nikki and Mallory dealing with another legal case with a goofy superhero. But the B-plot also reveals the existence of a website called Intelligencia, which has greater implications for the rest of the MCU.
Intelligencia initially seems very...
