J.J. Abrams' 2015 blockbuster "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was the "Tiny Toon Adventures" of the "Star Wars" universe. Like "Tiny Toons," it takes place in the same universe as the property that inspired it, and the older characters still exist in that universe, but the story focuses on younger, "junior" counterparts -- direct analogs -- to each of the known legacy characters. Just as Bugs Bunny was reflected in Babs Bunny and Buster Bunny, so too was Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) reflected in Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega). Just as Daffy Duck became Plucky, so too did Han Solo (Harrison Ford) become Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Just as the Roadrunner became Little Beeper, so too did R2-D2 become Bb-8. In the same fashion, Yoda (Franz Oz), the gnome-like sage from "The Empire Strikes Back," was translated into Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o).

Baby Yoda is the happiness we need in 2020, which is probably why it was a no brainer for Lucasfilm to put everyone’s favorite green alien on their annual holiday card.
The art was tweeted by Lucasfilm publicist Chris Argyropoulos and features Mando and Baby Yoda — or Grogu or The Child … whatever you want to call him — on a sleigh decked out with holiday lights.
Grogu even has a little Santa hat as he joyfully rides through the snow. It’s pretty darn adorable and elicits the perfect amount of holiday cheer.

“Chewie, we’re home.” Who didn’t get goosebumps when they first saw Han Solo’s introductory scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Having Harrison Ford step back onto the Millennium Falcon for the first time in 30 years was the perfect way to bring back the iconic smuggler. But earlier on in the movie’s development, an alternate entrance for Han was entertained. And some newly revealed concept art gives us a look at how things could have gone down.
Digital artist Christian Alzmann has shared a piece he created for Episode VII which depicts Han in a cantina in some corner of the galaxy, drinking his alien bar-buddies under the table. “Early concept for how we might have met Han in Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Alzmann wrote in his caption. “Out-Drinking everyone at a cantina.”

Disney+ has a massive hit on its hands with The Mandalorian, and one of the reasons for that is the character known as The Child, aka Baby Yoda, as nearly everyone calls him.
The doll-like Baby Yoda is a member of the same alien species as Yoda from the Star Wars franchise, and he’s on the run in the series. He’s also going to be a major driver of merchandise for Disney, which has a plush toy available and an animatronic version coming soon.
But way before any of that came to be, there were several designs of Baby Yoda bandied about. The various designs that were under consideration were revealed as part of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a documentary series on Disney+ that takes a behind the scenes look at what went into the making of the hit series, including the creation of Baby Yoda.

Kylo Ren had possession of Darth Vader’s helmet throughout the Sequel Trilogy, with the iconic headgear acting as a symbol of how much the corrupted Ben Solo idolized his grandfather. One pretty big question around it was never answered, though: how the heck did Kylo get hold of it in the first place? It’s unlikely to be a family heirloom Leia passed down to him as a kid, but this newly unveiled concept art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens may finally provide an explanation.
As shared by Lucasfilm art director Christian Alzmann on his Instagram page, the gorgeous art captures Luke Skywalker holding his father’s helmet in his hands. “Very early concept art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Alzmann wrote in his caption. “Trying different ideas.”

Over on Instagram, Star Wars concept artist Christian Alzmann has been in the the habit lately of sharing artwork from the Sequel Trilogy’s early years of development, one recent highlight being this intriguing set of designs for the villain eventually known as Kylo Ren.
If you thought that 2015’s The Force Awakens already borrowed too heavily from A New Hope, then you’ll probably think it’s for the best that none of these outfits were used in the final film. Granted, it’s an important element of Ben Solo’s character that he wants to be just like his grandfather Darth Vader, but all five of these “Jedi Killer” designs take that idolization to a whole other level.
Of course, the eventual outfit worn by Kylo was also pretty Vader-esque, but with a few unique touches that at least ensured the casual fan wouldn’t literally mistake him for his Original Trilogy predecessor.

As the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker looms closer, concept artist Christian Alzmann has taken to Instagram with a relic from the Sequel Trilogy’s early years of development.
The newly shared concept art reveals an unused design for Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. And while the outfit certainly seems in line with the eventual characterization of Ben Solo as a Darth Vader wannabe, Alzmann’s post also rightly observes that the getup has a little more “bounty hunter flare” to it than the costume ultimately used in the films.
It feels like an eternity ago that Star Wars fans were touting the heavily circulated theory that the mysterious masked villain from the Force Awakens trailer was actually Luke Skywalker in disguise. Of course, the film itself would eventually shut down this and other speculation, before The Last Jedi found plenty more ways to subvert popular expectations a couple of years later.

Kylo Ren has a lot of merits as a villain, with his anger issues, insecurities and complexity making him a fascinating antagonist. However, scary he ain’t. This original unused concept art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens though gives us a glimpse at an alternate version of the First Order big bad who looks like he’s crawled right out of your nightmares.
Design supervisor Christian Alzmann shared his artwork on Instagram recently, revealing that it depicts a “very early Jedi Killer/Kylo concept.” He went on to explain that it “wasn’t used in #StarWars: #TheForceAwakens but ended up being the inspiration for the Fifth Brother in #StarWarsRebels.”
The shape of The Force Awakens changed a lot during its pre-production process, with the villain of the piece undergoing a significant overhaul as things developed. Originally, the idea was for him to be a mysterious figure known as Jedi Killer,...

“Chewie… we’re home.” So says Han Solo in what quickly became one of the most frequently quoted lines of Star Wars: The Force Awakens both before and since the film’s release. But while Han’s boarding of the Millennium Falcon remains among the most nostalgic moments in a film that’s hardly lacking in that department, some newly shared concept art shows us how the smuggler could’ve been introduced in a very different manner.
The image comes courtesy of Lucasfilm artist Christian Alzmann, who explained via Instagram that the artwork shows how we might’ve met Han in The Force Awakens, adding that the scene would’ve featured Solo “Out-drinking everyone at a cantina.” Sure enough, Harrison Ford’s character is sat between two aliens who are out for the count, though the man himself doesn’t look in the best state, either.

A small but vocal contingent of fans disliked the recent Star Wars film The Last Jedi. They had many reasons for this, which I generally don’t agree with, but a major complaint was the film's treatment of their Hero, Luke Skywalker. This complaint I can sort of understand. I mean, I still don’t agree, but I get that if you grew up idolizing Luke Skywalker, it is disappointing to find out he grew up to be, well, a disappointment.
Most of the blame for this has been laid at the feet of Rian Johnson, the writer and director of The Last Jedi, who happens to be one of my five favorite directors currently working, so.... However, Johnson has recently been vindicated (Of Nothing! in my very humble opinion) by a piece of concept art. A piece of really old concept art. I mean, kind of old. It's not...

It’s pretty clear by now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi were the products of two different visions, with Rian Johnson’s sequel taking the saga on a divisive path after J.J. Abrams’ trilogy-starter played things relatively safe. Nonetheless, the internet has a habit of going a little overboard in its narratives, and while Johnson gets a lot of flak for his surprising depiction of later-years Luke, a new Twitter thread makes the case that the filmmaker’s plan for the character wasn’t that drastic a diversion from what Abrams had in mind.
Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak opened his thread with some old concept art, dated 2013, which shows off a bearded Luke Skywalker that’s not too far removed from Mark Hamill’s appearance from The Force Awakens. Accompanying this photo is a quote from design supervisor Christian Alzmann:...

By far one of the coolest moments in the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was seeing the Millennium Falcon back in action. Every glimpse we’ve since had of that iconic spaceship has been amazing though, and now a new official image from the highly anticipated movie gives us a great look at it taking down a Tie Fighter!
Talking to Wired, Christian Alzmann, senior art director at Industrial Light and Magic, had this to say about bring the Millennium Falcon to life on the big screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens:
“The big change on the Falcon is that radar dish, because it was knocked off in Return of the Jedi through some of Lando’s close-quarters flying. As far as the rest of the Falcon goes, we had a whole crew that went up to the archives and saw the original five-foot model from Empire.

As most of you already know, a lot of the designs for Star Wars Rebels came from a lot of unused concept art from the original trilogy created by Ralph McQuarrie. The talent behind the animated series is also looking at new unused concept art that was done for Star Wars: The Force Awakens for inspiration on developing certain characters for Rebels.
A recent episode of Star Wars Rebels featured a character that was actually based on a character that originally designed for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie. Today we have a piece of concept art of that character that was created by Industrial Light & Magic senior art director Christian Alzmann, who also helped design Bb-8.
The character goes by the name of the Fifth Brother, who was one of the Inquisitors sent out by the Emperor and Darth Vader to help stop the rebellion against the Empire before the events of A New Hope.

Alongside human components like relative newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has one more new star in the making. Abrams has been a passionate advocate of practical effects wherever possible on the film, with Bb-8 a prime example of the model work and engineering wizardry that's been championed over and above CG animation this time out.The droid began life as a quick Abrams sketch. As you know, I'm a sucker for some cool lookin' concept art. And some of the stuff that has come out of McG's upcoming film Terminator Salvation has been particularly breathtaking. In addition to the awesome concept art that we posted, then removed back in November that showed off some of the new man-killing machines, we now have some very cool art -- drawn by Ilm artist Christian Alzmann and visual effects art director Warren Fu -- which shows off some of post-apocalyptic San Francisco. There is also a shot of a cool flying thingy known as the Transporter, a shot of a human trying to break into some sort of SkyNet facility and oh yeah, one of those kick-ass Harvester things that looks like an evil Transformer. It is all very cool, as you will see below. Terminator Salvation is due out in theaters on May 21, 2009. Photos courtesy of The Sarah Connor Society.

There's a new batch of concept art for Terminator Salvation, which comes our way from the Russian site Kinopoisk. Ilm's Christian Alzmann and Warren Fu are the artists responsible for these new images, and they reflect a whole new scope for the series.
In the past, Terminator has been a grounded sci-fi series, but now they're putting the sky in SkyNet with some new machines covering the skies in post-apocalyptic America. Of course, we've only seen that war-ravaged landscape in bits and pieces in the previous films, but now that the action has moved into the future, McG and the effects team needed to work with a whole new arsenal of visuals.
The result is new weapons and bigger machines.

A fresh new batch of concept art from Terminator Salvation was discovered on the Sarah Connor Society blog (via SlashFilm) this weekend.
