Former President Bill Clinton is debuting a new video today in which he reflects on the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, warning of the threat that toxic political discourse has on democracy.
The video is part of an “Explainer-in-Chief” series that Clinton is doing with Attn:, the Candle Media division that publishes content fusing entertainment and topical issues.
The bombing, which killed 168 people, took place 29 years ago today. “For every president there are certain days in your presidency you will never forget,” Clinton says in the video. “April 19, 1995, the day of the largest domestic terrorist attack in U.S. history is one of those days for me.”
“In the aftermath of the Oklahoma city bombing, I knew that we had a responsibility to do everything we could to ensure that something like this would never happen again,” Clinton says. “But perhaps an even greater responsibility was to urge people...

The 1995 Oklahoma City bombing remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history. HBO’s new documentary An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th doesn’t just revisit this horrific event but methodically details its origins in white male grievance and entitlement.
Director Mark Levin, producer Daphne Pinkerson, and executive producer Katie Couric deliver a compelling journalistic study that connects the dots between right-wing domestic terror attacks over the past 40 years. The result is tragically relevant, as the hatred behind the Oklahoma City bombing also fueled the Pittsburgh Tree of Life shooting in 2018 and the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. Footage of a young Merrick Garland discussing the case reinforces the point, making the madness feel wearily cyclical. He prosecuted Timothy McVeigh and later oversaw the prosecution of January 6 insurrectionists as attorney general.

Daveed Diggs is detailing why a former “Twister” sequel idea was shut down.
The “Blindspotting” co-creator and “Little Mermaid” and “Hamilton” actor was set to co-write a “Twister” follow-up with original 1996 star Helen Hunt directing. The project was revealed in June 2021, with Hunt saying an unnamed studio “wouldn’t do” a sequel featuring “all Black and brown storm chasers.”
“We could barely get a meeting,” Hunt said in 2021. “And this is in June of 2020 when it was all about diversity.”
Now, Diggs is sharing his side.
“Oh man, I’m not going to get into it mostly because I’m probably going to misremember things,” Diggs told Insider. “But all I’ll say is there was an opportunity where we were talking about that, and it didn’t happen, and the reasons that it didn’t happen are potentially shady. But shady in the way that we know the industry is shady.

Plot: This topical series focuses on the fallout of the Waco disaster: the trials of the surviving members of the Brand Davidian sect, which forces them to explore their own complicity in supporting a young Vernon Howell’s ascent to become their prophet David Koresh; the birth of the militia movement and more specifically a critical look at what happens when a marginalized population, disenfranchised by the federal government gives rise to homegrown terrorist, Timothy McVeigh.
Review: Back in 2018, Showtime’s six-episode series Waco recreated the tragic siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Texas by the FBI. With a stellar cast led by Michael Shannon as FBI negotiator Gary Noesner and Taylor Kitsch as Branch Davidian cult leader David Koresh, Waco was met with positive yet mixed reviews. Many felt the workmanlike drama was too sympathetic towards Koresh and his followers but praised Kitsch’s performance and that of the ensemble cast.

At first, the tragedy that is explored in the Netflix documentary Waco: America Apocalypse might seem far removed from the Oklahoma City bombing. The former involved a religious cult known as the Branch Davidians, while the latter involved an act of domestic terrorism. Still, there are surprising connections between the two that were briefly touched on in Waco: American Apocalypse.

Waco: American Apocalypse explores the 51-day standoff in which Atf and FBI agents attempted to siege a religious compound that belonged to the Branch Davidians. When the Atf initially tried to raid the compound, a gunfight ensued, resulting in the deaths of four Atf agents and six Branch Davidians. The 51-day standoff ended when the Branch Davidians compound caught fire,...

Before Michael Shannon returns as villain, General Zod, in The Flash, he makes a return to deal with the embolden domestic terrorists in the follow-up show to Showtime’s six-part mini-series, Waco. The new chapters in the story follow the events in the wake of the siege at Mount Carmel. The focus centers around the trials of the surviving members of the Branch Davidians and anger from the public who felt the feds had gone a little too far. Collider has the report on the new trailer that’s been released days after the teaser on the new series.
Set to a cover of “Losing My Religion,” the footage kicks off with Noesner explaining how Waco has only united civil war-minded domestic terrorists and other individuals who lack faith in the American government and justice system. The result is a rise in further incidents and more animosity toward the FBI in particular.

“What do you think of firing squads?”
That’s the question Donald Trump repeatedly asked some close associates in the run-up to the 2024 presidential campaign, three people familiar with the situation tell Rolling Stone.
It’s not an idle inquiry: The former president, if re-elected, is still committed to expanding the use of the federal death penalty and bringing back banned methods of execution, the sources say. He has even, one of the sources recounts, mused about televising footage of executions, including showing condemned prisoners in the final moments of their lives.

ABC News said it placed one of its senior executives on administrative leave after a Huffington Post report detailed alleged complaints about her behavior lodged by staffers to the human-resources department.
Barbara Fedida joined ABC News for a second stint when Ben Sherwood, the former president of the division, brought her aboard in 2011 as senior vice president for talent and business. As part of that role, she had a strong influence in determining who ABC News hired and the career paths of many of the news operation’s journalists and correspondents. She has over the years been seen by staffers as an aide to the unit’s top managers, acting as a lieutenant of sorts to Sherwood and other senior ABC News executives. She currently reports to ABC News President James Goldston.

The deadly events that unfolded at the 1993 Waco siege have left an indelible mark on American history. Back in 2018, Paramount Network released Waco, a miniseries portrayal of the tragedy that went down at the infamous Mount Carmel compound where the Branch Davidian religious group lived. Starring Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, Julia Garner, and more, the show has now picked up traction as it landed in Netflix feeds. To see how faithfully the series portrays reality, read on to learn about the true story of the 51-day standoff between the FBI and Branch Davidians that culminated in a fatal fire.
To set the background, let's begin with an overview of the Branch Davidians. The group started as an offshoot of the Seventh-Day Adventists in the 1930s. Settling in the Mount Carmel Center in Waco, TX, the Branch Davidians believed that there was going to be a second coming of Christ, as well as an imminent apocalypse.

If Watchmen season 2 ever happens on HBO, these are the stories we'd like to see explored.
This article contains Watchmen spoilers.
HBO’s Watchmen was a perfect season of TV. Nine episodes, with hardly a wasted moment, that answered every single question they had set out to by the time the credits rolled on the final hour. It took almost 35 years to get a true Watchmen sequel or an adaptation worthy of the name, but Damon Lindelof, Nicole Kassell, and an incredibly talented team of writers, directors, and actors made it happen. If this is all we ever get, it would be enough.
But the hell with that, we all know you want to see Watchmen season 2 as badly as we do. Maybe it’s a mistake, but there’s just enough out there to make us believe that in the event that HBO decides that Watchmen...

The true origin of Laurie Blake's Dr. Manhattan dildo on Watchmen has been revealed by HBO.
Long before the HBO TV series, or before Zack Snyder put Jon Osterman on the silver screen, no discussion of Watchmen could possibly be considered complete without someone making a joke about Dr. Manhattan’s enormous, glowing, blue penis and his predilection for nudity. Doctor Manhattan is nude through most of the pages he appears on in Watchmen, the vast majority of the time in a non-sexual context, and that atomic powered dong is always there, as much a part of the book’s timeless iconography as the Comedian’s badge or Rorschach’s mask. It took three episodes, but HBO’s Watchmen did finally show us Dr. Manhattan’s dick, although in the form of an astounding sex toy brandished by Jean Smart’s FBI Agent Laurie Blake in...

HBO's Watchmen continues to hint at the final fate of Nite Owl. We explain what it all means.
This article contains spoilers for Watchmen episode 3 and the book.
Watchmen episode 3, “She was Killed by Space Junk,” introduced two major characters from the original book in the form of Jean Smart’s FBI Agent Laurie Blake and Jeremy Irons’ Adrian Veidt (formerly known as the heroic Ozymandias). Ok, we’re cheating a little bit here since Veidt has been present since the very first episode and everybody watching knew who Irons was playing anyway, but this is the first time they’ve bothered to confirm his actual identity. But two others loom large over the proceedings, even in their absence. The first is Doctor Manhattan, who has at least shown up on a TV screen from time to time on the show. But the other is Dan Dreiberg,...

Conservatives absolutely love to hate Colin Kaepernick, and a recent controversy centering around Fourth of July-themed Nike sneakers proved to be no exception. On Monday evening, Nike announced it would be pulling a new edition of Fourth of July-themed sneakers featuring the original United States flag as designed by Betsy Ross, with 13 stars in a circle. According to the Wall Street Journal, the reason why Nike pulled the shoe was because Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who has served as a spokesperson for Nike, objected to the use of the flag,...

Explosive devices and/or suspicious packages were sent to a number of major Democratic Party-linked figures this week, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, philanthropist and financier George Soros, former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-ca), and former CIA chief John Brennan.
The offices of the San Diego Union-Tribune were also evacuated after “suspicious packages” were found, and a device was removed from the Time Warner center in Manhattan, home to CNN.
Early news stories drew immediate connections to aggressive and irresponsible rhetoric from the right, including from President Trump.

The lawyers for Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Ford both have strong Hillary Clinton connections. It's interesting ... Kavanaugh's lawyer, Beth Wilkinson, is a high-powered, Washington D.C. lawyer who represented multiple top Clinton aides involved in the FBI email investigation during the campaign. She's also a long-time Democratic booster, and is married to CNN contributor David Gregory. As for Dr. Ford ... her lawyer, Debra Katz, was a campaign fundraiser for Clinton during her 2016 Presidential campaign.

Crime television is all around us. Almost every network dives into the flavor of the week in an attempt to capitalize on crimes past and present and draw in viewers with their offerings.
In Defense Of is doing something different.
Where most shows focus solely on the criminals, the cases, the law enforcement, or the prosecution of the case, In Defense Of is bringing to light what it takes to ensure all of those protected by the U.S. Constitution receive what they are due: the right to counsel as guaranteed in the Sixth Amendment.
The attorneys who defend what can often be the ugliest and most evil of us don't always find themselves hailed by the media, but In Defense Of is a limited series on Oxygen showcasing their success with particular cases, their challenges with the same, and much more.

Michael Moore begged a federal judge to dismiss a libel lawsuit against him on Friday insisting the prosecution's complaints about his 2002 movie Bowling For Columbine "range from the frivolous to the silly". Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols' brother James filed the lawsuit, because he believes Moore's documentary implied he was an accomplice in the tragic 1995 attack, which left 168 people dead. James also accuses Moore of incorrectly stating he had been arrested in connection with the bombing, when he was only held as a material witness. His brother received two life sentences and Timothy McVeigh was executed in 2001 for planning the bombing. But Moore's lawyer Herschel Fink told the court Moore's statements in the movie are constitutionally protected, because they are based on documents from court and because James became a public figure by writing a book and giving press interviews. Fink argued, "Nichols' complaint is the perfect storm of libel suits. The claims against him range from the frivolous to the silly. When you see a Michael Moore film, you know it's opinion. And it's protected." But James' lawyer Kenneth McIntyre countered, "Moore offered half-truths" in the film. Moore was unable to attend the hearing, because he was launching the Traverse City Film Festival in his home state of Michigan.

Filmmaker Robert Greenwald is planning a feature film titled Bud & Bill that will explore the unlikely friendship between the father of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and the father of one of the victims in the April 1995 attack. Greenwald and his producing partner Alys Shanti have tapped scribe Donald Martin to write the script for the feature project, and Martin has met with the two men -- Bill McVeigh and Bud Welch -- to discuss their relationship, which began during the course of Timothy McVeigh's trial. The younger McVeigh was sentenced to death after a jury found him guilty on 11 counts related to the bombing, which took the lives of 168 people, including Welch's daughter, Julie Welch. He was executed on June 11, 2001.
FX is developing an original film exploring a possible Middle Eastern terrorist link to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. The film would be based on the book The Third Terrorist, by Jayna Davis, a former reporter for an NBC-affiliated station in Oklahoma City. The producer is Rob Scheidlinger (SportsNight). In Terrorist, Davis investigates the connection between convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh and a group of Iraqi expatriates living in Oklahoma City in 1995. However, the FBI has not lent credence to her findings. "The film asks, why did everyone ignore what this woman was saying again and again?" Scheidlinger said. Scheidlinger also is attached to an original biopic about 1940s-era gangster Mickey Cohen in development at TNT. Robert Towne (Chinatown) is attached to produce and potentially direct.
