Now this sounds right up Jason Bateman’s alley. Deadline reports that Jason Bateman is set to star in and direct a series adaptation of David Gauvey Herbert’s Esquire magazine article Daddy Ball for Netflix and Aggregate.
Daddy Ball deals with dad-on-dad youth sports rivalries, but on the Long Island Inferno, two fathers, both with complicated pasts, took it all too far. There were claims of stalking, corrupt cops, and mob connections. Neither man was ever the same. Daddy Ball, which will be retitled for the series, has the potential to be exactly the type of dark comedy that Jason Bateman excels at.
Related Interview: Kate Beckinsale and Ken Jeong Talk Fool’s Paradise
Here’s Deadline’s description of the article: “Determined not to follow in his detached father’s footsteps, Bobby Sanfilippo found himself doing quite the opposite with his son. He became entangled in an epic...

Exclusive: Netflix and Aggregate prevailed in a bidding war to secure rights to writer David Gauvey Herbert’s 2021 Esquire magazine article “Daddy Ball.” They will find a new title, but the source material will be developed as an eight-episode limited series that Ozark‘s Jason Bateman will both star in and direct. Bateman, Michael Costigan and Roxie Rodriguez will be co-executive producers for Aggregate. David Herbert and David Klawans will also EP the dark comedy limited series.
There were eight offers on the table, but Netflix won it in an outright buy for an undisclosed number commensurate with the demand. It will be developed on a fast track.

The first European deals for cop and canine drama “Hudson & Rex” are rolling in ahead of the show getting its official international premiere at MipTV in Cannes. The show is the English-language remake of a Europe-originated procedural about a detective and his German Shepherd sidekick, Rex. Even if your mind isn’t eagerly anticipating “the big game,” Hallmark’s newest romantic comedy, Love on the Sidelines, is all about giving love a sporting chance. In Saturday night’s charming flick, Laurel Welk (The Walking Dead’s Emily Kinney) is an out-of-work fashion designer who lands a job as a personal assistant to superstar quarterback Danny Holland (John Reardon of Syfy’s Continuum). Supernatural has been on a bit of a roll these past few weeks; the episodes have been introducing strong new aspects to the already established mythology of the past eight years and it has landed in a satisfying way, managing to make the show feel fresh again. But eventually we’ll have to get back to the story of Crowley, Kevin and the tablets that have – for me at least – dragged Season 8 down. My hope is the new stuff will be woven in with the old in a way that allows both to shine like I know they can. If the recent casting of Brooke Langton and John Reardon are any indication, things might just be going that way.
As reported by TVLine, Langton (Melrose Place) and Reardon (Continuum) are guest starring in the same episode, airing Feb. 27. Langton will be playing Hayley, a single mom looking for the cure...

Tron Review
The indelible world of the software engineer and the incoherency of their digital workplace to the laymen is interlaced within a tale of one engineer’ desire to retrieve intellectual property that he can’t prove he ever owned.
Sliding between video game, a computer mainframe, and the real world, Tron seeks to balance its three universes in one narrative. The film both succeeds and fails at this. The editing of a few of the transitions are not as smooth as they could be and the terminology used will disengaged some viewers as they will not know what is being referred to.

No living organism, be they man, beast, or plant, should ever be asked to watch this. Comedy is subjective; everyone has a different range of humor that elicits laughter. That said, this still requires the presence of comedy in some shape or form. Some films achieve it unintentionally, like anything starring Steven Seagall or super-low budget horror films with utterly absurd premises. Unintentional comedies are a thing of beauty; conversely unintentional non-comedies should be avoided at all costs. Perhaps the best example of this accidentally unfunny genre is the spoof film as it has existed since the success of the first two entries in the Scary Movie franchise. Usually, the feckless Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg were to blame for the piss-poor comedy, but in the case of Scary Movie 4, the culprits are Craig Mazin, Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft – which makes its crimes against film even more egregious,...
