Malang
Starring Aditya Roy Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemu
Directed by Mohit Suri
Not quite as noire-ish as Alfred Hitchcock would have liked it to be, and yet dark enough to qualify as a dishy thriller, Mohit Suri’s Malang has enough moments of anxiety and despair to keep lovers of suspense thrillers perked up till the very end.
This is the kind of yarn that feeds on the suspense genre and nourishes its strong antecedents by giving it a forward push. Mohit Suri has never shied away from looking at the dark side of the human heart. In Malang, he juxtaposes the discovery of love with the exploration of evil in a seesaw of hope and mayhem that simply, or maybe not so simply, keeps us riveted.
Yes, there is an element of trying-to-be-clever and look-how-smart-my-narrative-is that tends to show up unannounced, for instance the lengthy fight that opens the film.

A dark romantic thriller sprinkled with de noir feel and psycho thriller effect. Bloodily frenetic and captivatingly intense, Mohit Suri is back to his groove with Malang.

Oh dear. Where to begin with the film, Rascals. Sometimes the level that our writers go to recreate a hit can be baffling. Ok, so we have the amazingly talented Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt as the Rascals in question. And yes you are expected to leave your brain at home but this is nowhere near what you would expect from them or director David Dhawan. This is one of those films that regardless of what or whom you see on screen, your brain and possibly your whole being will object. Expecting a comprehensive story would be naive but it isn’t too much to ask for some funny and innovative proceedings, is it? Apparently so.
So if you are prepared to take the plunge after seeing the trailer, there really isn’t much more to it. Bhagat Bhosle [Ajay Devgn] and Chetan Chohan [Sanjay Dutt] are your typical con men that incidentally pull one of the same guy,...

Sajid Khan returns after the success of Heyy Baby, a spilt milkfood and soiled diaper soiree that did manage to tickle your funny bone with its infant histrionics. With Housefull, he doesn't stray much and tries to create a similar riot of hilarious episodes, centred around two couples -- Akshay Kumar-Deepika Padukone and Riteish Deshmukh-Lara Dutta.
Trouble lies not so much with the couples as with their relatives: Lara's estranged Pappa, Boman Irani and Deepika's angry brother, Arjun Rampal. Can the boys manage to win their beloved's parivar walas? Not an easy task, specially when both are losers of sorts and don't have the mandatory big house, big money, big lifestyle....
The film begins on a funny note, with Akshay trying to seek refuge from his bad luck by moving in with his best buddy, Riteish and his wife, Lara. A vacuum cleaner turned awry and...

Do I really need to tell you how achingly, appallingly bad '8x10 Tasveer' is?
Director Nagesh Kukunoor is officially the Francis Ford Coppola of Bollywood - both the honchos started off with a stunning offbeat film (Hyderabad Blues/The Rain People) then fleshed out outright masterpieces (Teen Deewaren, Dor, Iqbal/ Godfather 1&2, The Conversation) and finally burned out with a big budget flick (Bombay to Bankok/Apocalypse Now).
Although 'Apocalypse Now' is still considered a masterpiece by many, Coppola never recovered from it's torturous shoot and has since delivered stinkers. Nagesh Kukunoor isn't quite far behind.
'8x10 Tasveer' is a below average thriller packaged as a glossy commodity. The film is so overblown and underwhelming, you'd wish you suffered from the Hero's curse of tapping into the mind of Mr. Kukunoor to figure out what he was thinking five minutes before he began writing the screenplay.
