Directorial duo Kit & Arran, whose darkly comedic satire “King Baby” premieres at International Film Festival Rotterdam, are lining up two further film projects, “How Dare You” and “Jericho,” the directors, whose full names are Kit Redstone and Arran Shearing, tell Variety.
Selected for the Bright Future section and initially developed as a play, “King Baby” sees a King and a Servant (Graham Dickson and Neil Chinneck) living alone in the ruins of a castle. When their daily routine is disturbed by a Queen, they start succumbing to their worst instincts. Even though she is a wooden mannequin.
Variety debuts the trailer here:
The film was produced by Franck Priot, Ye Shu, the directors and Marc Petey for Ghosts City and Chimples Pictures.
“We felt there was something deliciously promising about this stripped-down world,” says Kit. But despite its comedic set-up, “King Baby” quickly turns more disturbing, exploring “different nuances of patriarchal brutality.

Film industry relations between China and Europe have been kept alive throughout the coronavirus outbreak by Bridging The Dragon, an informal trade organization now in its sixth year.
After its regular event held during the Berlin film festival in February, further seminars, presentations and mixers should have taken place in Cannes in May and in Beijing in November. Travel restrictions and the cancelation of in-person film festivals and markets put paid to those ideas.
Knowledge-sharing, Btd’s core concern, can be achieved online as millions of students around the world have learned. And re-conceiving the organization’s autumn event as a virtual conference, not only allowed the connections to be kept intact, but even to be expanded. A delegation of New Zealand producers joined the virtual event for the first time with some participating in another first, informal coaching sessions.

It’s not just the UK movie business that is suffering from draconian budget cuts because of the global financial crisis. Europe has an enormous hangover, too. And other European film industries are also suffering as EU governments scramble to reduce their debt mountains: France France's cinema unions say the French Senate finance committee's plan will have "catastrophic consequences" for French film and TV funding. That's because France's government wants to divert €128 million ($175 million) of revenue away from state film agency Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animee (Cnc) into its own coffers. This won't actually be a cut in Cnc funding, just limiting next year's funding increase to a 7.6% improvement on this year's €575 million ($800 million) budget. The Cnc is funded through a levy on cinema admissions – which are estimated to hit 210 million this year, the best for 20 years -- as well as a levy on DVD sales,...

From "Gossip Girl" to the "Material Girl" to Woody Allen and Martin Scorsese, Paris' streets have been sparkling with Tinseltown star power during what typically are slow summer months in the French capital.

France's 20% tax rebate for foreign productions, capped at €4 million, has sparked a filming frenzy in Paris with such major directors as Clint Eastwood, Christopher Nolan, Woody Allen and Scorsese plus U.S. studios including Paramount and Universal taking advantage of both the country's technical savvy and the lower cost of shooting.
