It was reported last month that Kathryn Bigelow had dropped out of directing an adaptation of the apocalyptic David Koepp novel “Aurora” for Netflix as new film chief Dan Lin was starting his role. But one of Lin’s first green lights will reportedly be a different Bigelow film with a similarly apocalyptic bent.
According to a report in Puck, “The Hurt Locker” director Bigelow has been tapped to direct a thriller about the White House’s real-time response efforts to an incoming ballistic missile attack on American soil. The script for the film is written by Noah Oppenheim, and the project is expected to be formally announced when Netflix hosts its Upfronts presentation to advertisers next week.
Puck also reported that despite the green light, Bigelow was “visibly annoyed” in regards to notes from Lin asking for the film to cut its budget and length. The report adds that...

Putting one’s heart and soul into their art is nothing new, Martin Scorsese being one of the many to find solace in that. It takes a great amount of dedication to bring out the best that a movie and script can provide. Penning it down and then executing the idea is a process that makes the film personal on its own. However, there are times when those personal films include an actual touch of the filmmakers.

With time, the director came to learn the art of filmmaking. One that takes patience, resilience, and a great amount of understanding. Especially taking into consideration how pieces of oneself get left behind as souvenirs for the film, making them exceptional. However, sometimes that can also make such movies impossible to come to.

Martin Scorsese (who may or may not be making a Frank Sinatra biopic soon) is our greatest living filmmaker. I don't think that's a controversial or even hyperbolic statement; it's just true. The man lives and breathes cinema, and he has one masterpiece after another to his name. But it all started with "Mean Streets." To be clear: "Mean Streets" was not Scorsese's first feature film. His debut film was 1967's "Who's That Knocking at My Door," which began as a student film before Scorsese reworked it into a feature. He followed that up in 1972 with "Boxcar Bertha," a crime flick produced by legendary B-movie auteur Roger Corman.
It was "Boxcar Bertha" that would lead directly to "Mean Streets." The story goes that when Scorsese's friend, mentor, and fellow director John Cassavetes saw "Boxcar Bertha," he told Scorsese: "You've just spent a year of your life making a piece of sh*t.

Actor Robert De Niro once more criticized former President Donald Trump. The famed actor, 80, spoke on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour and publicly slammed Trump. Since Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, De Niro has been outspoken about his negative views on Trump.
In the interview, De Niro warned people about Trump’s potential return to the White House if he wins this year’s election. He referred to Trump as “a sick person,” “narcissistic,” a “monster” and a “stupid bully.” However, in the same segment, De Niro stated he was “tired of calling [Trump] names.”
De Niro then drew comparisons between Adolf Hilter, Benito Mussolini and Trump. “Historically, from what I see, even in Nazi Germany, they had it with Hitler. They don’t take him seriously. He looks like a clown. Acts like a clown. Mussolini. Same thing. These guys, I don’t know why they look like clowns.”

Harrison Ford is famous mostly thanks to his “good guy” iconic roles — remembering Indiana Jones and Han Solo will already be enough to confirm it. And he wouldn’t even have had a thought of taking up some radically different role if at some point it hadn’t come to his potential work with legendary Martin Scorsese who’d wanted to see Ford in his 1991’s thriller Cape Fear.
Scorsese, in his turn, became prominent to the world public and got everyone’s accolades (and still does) for his dark-themed, often criminal thrillers that never miss their chance to show some quite explicit violence — the opposite to what Harrison Ford was usually up to.
Cape Fear already existed before Martin Scorsese — the initial film was released in 1962 and is still considered to be one of the best psychological thrillers in cinema history. The plot follows Max Cady, a man that...

In a video that circulated on X Wednesday, Robert De Niro can be seen yelling at a crowd while Jesse Plemons looks on from the sidelines. The video, taken by an unknown outlooker, was reposted by several pro-Israel accounts that subtitled De Niro’s dialogue and began circulating it, claiming that De Niro was shouting at pro-Palestinian protestors and referring to the Israel-Hamas War that started Oct. 7.
But the veteran actor was actually rehearsing a new Netflix show on location, his representative Stan Rosenfield confirmed. “What was seen was erroneous reports of Robert De Niro supposedly yelling at a group of anti-Israeli protesters,” Rosenfield said.

Jeff Bridges isn’t like other leading men. So goes the tale for over 50 years and 70 films. Where other actors of his generation—Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson—brought volume and bravado, Bridges excelled in the shadows. A charming pretty boy turned weary and soulful iconoclast, his characters have never been showy. As The Dude in “The Big Lebowski” or Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart,” he’s moved into his roles and lived in them—“enough,” as one critic wrote as early as 1973, “to make a picture worth seeing.”
“I’m not sure what to make of all that,” Bridges told Variety at Film at Lincoln Center Monday evening, where the actor received the prestigious Chaplin Award. “It’s shocking for myself to think about how many films I’ve done,” he said. “Each film is like a little lifetime. Throughout the 2010s, Jeremy Renner’s career was mostly dictated by his stint in the MCU as Hawkeye, overshadowing some of his most acclaimed performances outside the cinematic giant. Fortunately, thanks to Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown, which marked the actor’s small screen debut, the Mission: Impossible star was once again able to put his acting chops to the display.
While fans and critics stand on opposite poles regarding the verdict on the overall show’s quality, one thing everyone can agree on is Renner’s brilliance as Mike McLusky. Co-creator Hugh Dillon even went as far as to compare Renner’s performance with one of Robert De Niro’s most iconic roles to date, which is another reason to get excited for season 3.

In ‘Mirzapur’, Ali’s character of Guddu is on a heavy protein diet considering he is a body builder, and the best source of protein for him are the eggs. His character climbs up the ranks of the...

Martin Scorsese is regarded as one of the finest filmmakers of the New Hollywood era, with five of his movies being included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Scorsese’s movies are described as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, which, back in the 1970s and 1980s, had an Italian-American influence and an upbringing in New York.
Filmmakers’s trademarks include extensive use of slow motion and freeze frames, graphic depictions of extreme violence, and liberal use of profanity. Scorsese, with his years of experience, garnered attention after he commented about how he does not consider Marvel movies to be cinema. But a screenwriter who has closely worked with the filmmaker on various projects disagrees with him.

In moviemaking, directors manage the extreme stuff. Matt Reeves, who made The Batman, etched some rough memories as well. He nearly said no to Warner Bros.’ Batman offer due to the film War from the Planets of the Apes.

Christopher Nolan’s take on DC’s superhero flick The Dark Knight undoubtedly changed pop culture’s understanding of Batman to such an extent that no other Batman movie could match his level. But it seems that Matt Reeves finally broke Nolan’s record with his darker and more serious Caped Crusader film The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson.

Steven Spielberg was filled with doubts when he was approached to direct Schindler’s List. Spielberg didn’t consider himself mature enough to make a film on the Holocaust, however, he was unwilling to let the opportunity slide. Martin Scorsese was in the running to direct the film at one point. However, Spielberg decided to offer Scorsese a chance to direct the 1991 remake of Cape Fear and decided to helm the Liam Neeson-led film himself.

Hollywood is proof that talent has no age bar, and 10-year-old Connor Esterson is a testament to that. The 5th grader who made his presence felt on screen in Spy Kids: Armageddon has now turned his attention to writing. Esterson has been in talks with bigwigs in the writing fraternity, namely Nick Vallelonga and George Gallo, to pitch a screenplay featuring a young boy’s relationship with a gangster.

It’s been inferred since last year that Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming Jesus film would take an aslant approach to the greatest story ever told. Put simply and enigmatically by the man himself: “I don’t know what it’s going to be, exactly. I don’t know what you’d call it. It wouldn’t be a straight narrative. But there would be staged scenes. And I’d be in it.”
After furthers confirmations and intimations of what the film, an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s A Life of Jesus, will constitute, Father Antonio Spadaro––with whom Scorsese conversed for a series of interviews that form the recently published Italian book Dialoghi sulla fede (Dialogues on Faith)––has given Variety a close view of its intentions. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Footloose, the iconic ’80s movie which starred Kevin Bacon as a teenager who attempts to overturn a ban on dancing in a small town. Footloose was shot at Payson High School in Utah, and the students have been campaigning on social media to get Kevin Bacon to visit the school on prom day. And you’d better believe he’ll be there.
The actor announced to the Today Show that he will be returning to Payson High School for prom. “I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” Bacon said. “I’ve been amazing at the work that all of you have been putting into this, with the musical and the flash mobs and the re-creations.“

One of the funniest moments at the recent Academy Awards ceremony occurred when Best Supporting Actress nominee Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”) and Best Supporting Actor nominee Ryan Gosling (“Barbie”) appeared together to pay a special tribute to the talented stunt performers who are so often overlooked for their indelible contributions to the motion picture industry. Blunt and Gosling traded barbs over their “Barbenheimer” feud — the result of their films competing against each other at the box office as well as the entire awards season. If their chemistry suggested anything, it’s that moviegoers are in for a real treat when their upcoming film “The Fall Guy” drops into theaters in May.

When it was released back in 1995, Michael Mann’s film Heat became a global hit. This action thriller starring acting legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, as well as then-upcoming actor Val Kilmer, was one of the biggest films of the decade and has become a pillar of the genre. Although Mann had already been an established director by then, Heat further cemented his place in the history of cinema, making him one of the most important creators in the history.
Mann had a relatively long “dry streak” after 2009’s Public Enemies (Blackhat is basically a forgotten movie), to use this term, before last year’s Ferrari was released to solid reviews, with praise directed at Driver’s performance. His return to the spotlight also reignited rumors about a possible sequel to Heat, something that Hollywood has been gossiping about for some time, with Heat 2 becoming a more palpable possibility at the time.

While the versatile filmmaker Martin Scorsese has helmed various genres, the gangster drama is the one that put him on the map, starting with the Harvey Keitel and Robert De Niro starrer Mean Streets. The film’s success led to him being the master of the genre with films like Casino and The Irishman.
However, before he became the master of the genre, he was reportedly apprehensive about following through on one of his best films, Goodfellas. Scorsese was reportedly hesitant to tackle the genre again after Mean Streets and reportedly went to The Godfather star Marlon Brando, who surprisingly advised against pursuing it.

No one ever said loving people is easy. Each person comes with their own set of challenges and unpredictabilities. If you’re willing to go the distance for someone you love, the rewards can be worth every moment of frustration, heartache, and pain. Today, Bleecker Street debuted a trailer for the studio’s comedic family drama, Ezra, a touching story about fathers and sons going above and beyond the call of duty to find balance in a world designed to judge and persecute.

Bobby Cannavale Is a Stand-up Comic with an Autistic Son, a Road Trip, and a Dream in ‘Ezra’ Trailer
Bobby Cannavale has been passed over at the Comedy Cellar, but if he doesn’t get his act together — and we don’t mean his stand-up act — life itself will pass him by.
Bleecker Street released the trailer for its upcoming feature film “Ezra” on Wednesday, March 13, which in addition to Cannavale stars Rose Byrne, Vera Farmiga, Whoopi Goldberg, Rainn Wilson, Tony Goldwyn, and newcomer William A. Fitzgerald, and Robert De Niro. Pretty good cast there.
“Ezra” follows Max Bernal (Cannavale), a stand-up comedian living with his father (De Niro) while struggling to co-parent his autistic son Ezra (Fitzgerald) with ex-wife (Rose Byrne). Cannavale is broke — the living with dad part probably gave that away — and “still not over” Byrne.
Max gets his potential big break when invited to do a late-night set for Jimmy Kimmel. (Unclear if it’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in the “Ezra” Cinematic Universe.) One problem:...

Bleecker Street has released a first-look trailer for their new family comedy/drama “Ezra,” which will be released in theaters on May 31. Featuring Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, and Oscar-winner Robert De Niro, the trio star as three adults from the same family with wildly differing opinions about what’s best for one precious neurodivergent little boy, the titular Ezra. Cannavale and De Niro previously worked together in the Martin Scorsese gangster pic “The Irishman.”
This project will be much more lighthearted than the previous one; however, it still has dramatic aspects.
