Harare, May 23 (Ians) At a time when the world's wealthy cricket board are earning millions from sponsorship and broadcast rights, Zimbabwe player Ryan Burl has highlighted the plight of his country's cricketers, who cannot even afford decent shoes for their matches.
The 27-year-old Burl, a left-handed middle-order batsman who has played three Tests, 18 ODIs and 25 T20Is, on Saturday tweeted a picture of his ripped shoe, a glue stick and some tools to fix it.
He wrote, "Any chance we can get a sponsor so we don't have to glue our shoes back after every series. Crying emoji."
Zimbwabe, who have seen talented cricketers such as Alistair Campbell, Heath Streak, Andy and Grant Flower, Tatenda Taibu, Henry Olonga and Neil Johnson, among others play for the country, have seen the standards plummet of late.

The sound of the impact is deafening. More than 18,000 feet above the German city of Fürth, the World War II B-24 bomber they call Dixie Flyer has just delivered its full payload onto a German manufacturer, devastating its ability to build military aircrafts and turning the airfield into a scrap heap. But even before making the full turn out of Bavaria, Dixie Flyer’s copilot and the leader of this bombing group, Maj. James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart to his fans), is nearly lifted out of his chair.
That’s because a German shell (or flak) has pierced directly through the center of his B-24 Liberator. The whiplash is so intense that only harnesses keep him in his seat. Still, Stewart rises in the air; pilot Capt. Neil Johnson’s hands are briefly shaken from the controls; and for a moment, the entire plane is consumed with smoke as it violently ascends.

One of General Hospital‘s great murder mysteries had its roots in the fictional town of Laurelton, and more than 34 years later, I am here to vaguely remember it.
Why? I was tweeting this week about how someone in the real world’s political arena has a habit of “gaslighting” his/her constituents. That made me recall the first time I ever heard the term “gaslight” — when Gh‘s Ginny Webber led Bobbie Spencer to believe that she had killed the abusive Dl Brock, when in fact [Spoiler Alert!] Ginny herself had done the deed, albeit in self-defense. (Watch Judith Chapman’s killer confession here.

With The Time War currently shooting currently shooting in the UK and Us, I was able to ask actress Tracey Birdsall a few questions regarding her role and what we can expect form the film
During World War 2, the Nazis were alleged to be experimenting with Time Travel Technology. What if they were successful?
The Time War shows the consequences of Adolf Hitler traveling through time and re-writing history. Rather than taking a campy-cartoony stance on the notion, The Time War takes a more serious, scientific-based approach to the consequences of time travel and the theoretical multi-verse. As Adolf Hitler starts to re-write his genetics, he learns that cause and effect are not as simple as it may seem on paper. After dealing with multiple versions of himself, his greatest nemesis is his own daughter Dijanne (played by Tracey Birdsall) who takes on his legacy of empire building and creates an army of one,...

Low budget indie Sci-Fi action movie, Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter is now in theaters across the Us and on Blu-ray from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Starring acclaimed actress Tracey Birdsall (pictured, on the left, below), the film gives the actress a chance to flex her action-heroine muscles. We had the opportunity to fire some questions over to Tracey about her love of the film, the evolution of the script, and the future of the franchise.
How exactly did you get this role in Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter, Tracey? I read it was fashioned as a vehicle for you?
I had worked with the director before, and he wanted me to “lead up” one of his films, so Rogue Warrior was the result of that collaboration. We delved through a dozen or more scripts to find one that could be re-written as one that we both wanted to produce. Rogue Warrior...

Most makers of fan-fiction cinema spend their time imagining stories in a familiar universe: They introduce new Sith-fighting Jedi knights; they imagine new starships serving the United Federation of Planets; they dress up in Batman cowls and punch men wearing Joker makeup. In Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter, Neil Johnson goes a different route. Perhaps unwittingly, he presents us with a weirder hypothetical: What if some of the characters on TV's Baywatch inhabited a Terminator-like dystopian future?
Unfortunately, the question is more tantalizing than the answer supplied by this wholly cheesy, almost entirely witless creation, which somehow attracted the attention of...

British director Neil Johnson is a favourite around these parts. His sci-fi and horror extravaganzas may not have the biggest budgets or glossiest effects but they're a heck of a lot of fun and from the sounds of it, he's back at it.
Johnson's latest sounds like a doozy.
Originally written in 1995, The Time War imagines Hitler going back in time and rewriting history. It's a cool concept and details are vague so it's not clear how far he goes back in time and what history he's re-writing but you can expect things are going to get ugly.

Pacific Coast Entertainment have today announced that they are to develop and produce a television series based on their upcoming science-fiction Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter. Tentatively titled The Gods of War, the series will see Tracey Birdsall reprising her role from the film. No other actors are currently attached.
The series, described as a cross between Star Wars and Mad Max, is set in the distant future depicting the struggles of humanity forced to merge with machine intelligence. First season will consist of 6-8 episodes, with production due to begin in 2016.
Producer Neil Johnson says The Gods of War will “be a story-driven epic series similar to the Game of Thrones model. We look to shoot primarily in the Us, but it’s expected there’ll be some additional photography in other countries”.

In the week that possibly the biggest teaser trailer of the year hits (for Star Wars: The Force Awakens), a new science-fiction film takes to the very same dunes featured in the classic Return of the Jedi – as actress and producer Tracey Birdsall’s new film Robot Fighter is currently lensing on many of the same locations as Jedi; notably the Salton Sea, Yuma, Arizona.
Robot Fighter isn’t without its Star Wars ties, thematically either. Director Neil Johnson’s space chronicle fixes on the overthrow of humanity by Artificial Intelligence and the determined rebel who goes up against the droid empire.
Starring alongside Birdsall is Star Trek III : The Search for Spock’s Stephen Manley, Daz Crawford (Blade II), Livvy Stubenrauch (Frozen), Erin Bethea (Fireproof), Tim McGrath, Ashley Park and Aaron Jacques.
Robot Fighter, the first in a potential new sci-fi series, will be released in 2016.

If this money is talking the way it's supposed to, then it looks like the proposed film series "Space Command" is not only a go -- it already has an enthusiastic fan base. The series from science-fiction alums Marc Scott Zicree, Doug Drexler and Neil Johnson, set a Kickstarter goal of $75,000 to get started on a series that would pay homage to classic 1950s science-fiction. Instead, with more than a month to go, fans have responded with just under $130,000 by Tuesday, and the pledges haven't stopped there. "This says a lot about how the fans feel," Drexler told Airlock Alpha when providing an update on the project. And it's hard to argue that. So far, "Space Command" has attracted pledges from one less than 1,500 people. That's an average donation of $87. Already, two people have ...

And by otherworldly enemies, of course, I mean aliens. Cowboys vs. aliens? What a novel idea! Below you’ll find a trailer for director Neil Johnson’s direct-to-video sci-fi actioner “Alien Armageddon”, a film which used to be called — wait for it — “Battleground: Los Angeles”. Borrow the concept from one movie, lift the title from another. The Asylum would be proud. Innocent ribbing aside, “Alien Armageddon” doesn’t look that bad, though I do have a serious soft spot for this kind of stuff. The large number of explosions certainly helps, too. Do I have a short synopsis? Of course I do: For years, UFO sightings have been documented around the world. What were once mere sightings have now become brutal attacks of epic proportions. As the human race faces total annihilation with every major city destroyed, only Los Angeles remains. Left with the task of saving humanity from extinction,...

This has not been a good year for Los Angelino/extraterrestrial relations. First there was Battle: Los Angeles. Then The Asylum’s Battle of Los Angeles. Now there’s Alien Armageddon, which, not surprisingly, was originally titled Battleground Los Angeles.
On the same day that Cowboys & Aliens limps onto store shelves, another alien invasion movie featuring a cowboy battling aliens (judging by the cover art) will be touching down on DVD and Blu-ray via Phase 4 Films.
Starring Rochelle Vallese, Katharine MeEwan, Claudia Wells, Don Scribner, Marilyn Ghigliotti and DeeDee Bigelow, with a cameo by Virginia Hey, filmmaker Neil Johnson’s Alien Armageddon is an impressive looking low budget alien invasion effort about humanity’s last stand in the last remaining city on Earth – Los Angeles.
Have a look at the trailer. Seriously, have a look at it. Really damn impressive for low budget sci-fi movie.

Alien Armageddon is the latest alien invasion flick that has its eyes on Los Angeles for some reason. Why’s all the aliens want to go to L.A.? Anyway, the movie starts off with a bang, lots of cool special effects and action scenes and then slowly fades into a plain movie that sometimes gets confusing.
The movie follows a female who gets abducted and held in the alien concentration camp, or whatever you call it. She meets up with other captives and they share stories. They watch the aliens and their behavior to learn how to take advantage of them and their few weaknesses and learning some surprising secrets while doing so.
Director Neil Johnson threw in so many puking scenes that it’s really noticeable and ridiculous and that’s not all but I wont go in to that. The special effects are the standouts of the movie,...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films.
Director/writer: Neil Johnson.
Cast: Katharine McEwan, Don Scribner, Rochelle Vallese and DeeDee Bigelow.
Here is another entry into the alien invasion film genre with Alien Armageddon. This film follows Neil Johnson's previous film titled Nephilim (2007). This title recently had a World Premiere through video-on-demand August 1st. Phase 4 Films released this title and this reviewer wishes they had not. Perhaps the low production values did not deliver the film's message adequately. However, one message is clear to this film reviewer: Alien Armageddon is a really poor executed film. This film is one half prison drama and one half sci-fi melodrama. Neither of these genres really create much enthusiasm over here at 28Dla. So, in the end, Alien Armageddon introduces a new alien species with some weak acting, poorly dressed sets and an Anglo-Norma plotline that has been done better,...

There is another alien invasion film set in Los Angeles, which is set for a theatrical release July 6th. The title is Alien Armageddon and the synopsis sounds strangely like Battle: Los Angeles and also The Asylum's knock-off Battle of Los Angeles. Skyline could also be lumped in with these films and this reviewer is starting to get the sense that certain Los Angeles filmmakers want the City of Angels to burn to the ground. With the financial setbacks for S.E.T.I. (Search for Extraterrestrial Life), director Neil Johnson will have to wait a little longer for Los Angeles to crumble and burn under alien attack. For now, sci-fi fans with similar interests to Johnson, can have their wish fulfillment somewhat satisfied by visiting the Crest Theatre in Westwood July 6th, to watch Alien Armageddon on the big screen!

When I first saw footage from Neil Johnson's ambitious scifi flick, Humanity's End, I was immediately blown away by what a SFX extravaganza it was shaping up to be. But man, nothing prepared me for what I'm seeing in this new trailer that's been released for the project. Sure the CGI work isn't up to the level of what I assume James Cameron is cooking up for us with Avatar but the sheer amount of wicked FX shots and costumes in this thing is just mind boggling. I gotta see this thing now.
The year is 3313. Mankind is being systematically massacred throughout the galaxy by an invading species.
All hope is lost until the last strand of pure human DNA is found on a remote planet in the far reaches of the galaxy. Now, an epic battle will be waged across time and space to save and protect the last of the human race.
