The list of streaming platforms and new programming continues to grow, and the good news is the latest of the former is free! The Network, an ad-supported premium streaming platform, officially launched on Tuesday, April 30. It “seeks to declutter the streaming experience, eliminating audiences’ endless scrolling to find appealing series and films” and is “built on the principle ‘Always Originals, Always Free.'” The platform was created by Aram Rappaport, founder of the creative ad agency The Boathouse with backing from Bh Media Holdings, and will be available on all devices across Apple, Android, Roku, Amazon Fire, and the web. The Network will release two originals at a time: dramas on Tuesdays and comedies on Thursdays. With the launch on Tuesday, it released the first two episodes of the drama The Green Veil and the comedy Chivalry. The Network The Green Veil is an eight-episode drama/thriller/sci-fi series from...

John Leguizamo has portrayed a wide range of characters in his career, from comic book villains to Shakespearean legends to drag queens. Despite his versatility, fans have never seen him as dark and unsettling as he is in the new TV series “The Green Veil.”
His portrayal of the 1950s FBI agent Gordon Rogers was already rattling audiences after the premiere of the first four episodes of the new drama at Variety‘s TV FYC Screening Series on April 26 in West Hollywood. Following the screening, one fan revealed that it was difficult to witness Leguizamo’s character inflict trauma after trauma and asked how he managed to act out the scripted atrocities.
“I don’t need people to like me in this role,” Leguizamo responded. “That’s not what I want. I want it to be understood, understood how a person becomes this vile and twisted.” This powerful performance set...

Old to-catch-a-thief cliches get dusted off and mangled in The Crash, Aram Rappaport's macroeconomic technodrama in which a stock-market hacker is recruited by the feds to protect the New York Stock Exchange from unknown terrorists. No film in which the Chairman of the Federal Reserve (played here by Christopher McDonald) is the most colorful character can be said to have much grip on reality, but this one is further off the mark than even that suggests; theatrically and on video, its stock will tank quickly enough to test the reflexes of a high-frequency trading algorithm.

Part rejected network pilot, part Michael Crichton-esque what-if, the clumsy, cheap-looking sort-of thriller The Crash presents a very near future in which the U.S. government secretly enlists a white-collar crook from Chicago named Guy Clifton (Frank Grillo) to put together a team of hackers and analysts who can stop an imminent computer attack on the stock market. Whatever fun one might have with this junky premise is neutralized by the fact that the movie has zero narrative momentum. At once oversimplified and overcomplicated—the type of film where shadowy elites cackle sinisterly while meeting at an abandoned carnival in broad daylight—The Crash fumbles between bad diatribe and bad domestic drama, complete with subplots about absent parents and childhood cancer. Only occasionally does writer-director Aram Rappaport remember that what he’s supposed to be making is a bad techno-thriller, the kind where people shout information at each other...

"The hacker will save the world." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a film called The Crash, about a stock market crash in the "near future". Described as a "fast-paced, save-the-world thriller" about a stock market criminal who is secretly hired by the government to run a "shadow" stock market in order to keep the economy stable. This has an oddly impressive ensemble cast: Dianna Agron, Minnie Driver, Frank Grillo, John Leguizamo, Maggie Q, AnnaSophia Robb, Mary McCormack, Ed Westwick, Andrew James Allen and Christopher McDonald. As interesting as this may look, it actually seems to be some seriously absurd stock market propaganda, about how important the stock market is to the stability of the country. Truth is, it is bad, we'd be better off without it. But they don't want you to think about that. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Aram Rappaport's The Crash, direct from...

Rappaport explained, “While we were shooting, there was a fight on HBO that Ed Westwick, Frank[Grillo], and Minnie [Driver] wanted to watch. They convinced the owners of the house we shot at to let them watch it on the big-screen TV.”

Aram Rappaport’s cyber thriller “A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island” has added a couple of interesting names to its cast, including a pair of strong TV female leads in Mary McCormack (USA’s “In Plain Sight”) and Maggie Q., who is wrapping up the final season of her CW action series “Nikita”. The film also has Minnie Driver and Dianna Agront, along with John Leguizamo, Ed Westwick, AnnaSophia Robb, and Dominic Cooper. Frank Grillo will star as an ex-Wall Street man “whom the Secretary of the Treasury enlists to thwart a cyber attack that threatens to derail the American economy. "We take image very seriously." Magnolia Pictures has debuted a trailer for the indie film Syrup, based on Max Barry's "cult" business/marketing novel of the same name. It tells the story of a young marketing exec who comes up with a million-dollar idea, but "has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart." The concept behind this isn't bad, but there's something extra cheesy about the cast and the marketing dialogue that makes everything feel a bit too fake. The cast includes Brittany Snow and Amber Heard as the sex sellers, plus Shiloh Fernandez, Kellan Lutz, Rachel Dratch and Josh Pais. Not great, but may be fun. Here's the first official trailer for Aram Rappaport's adaptation Syrup, found on YouTube: A slacker named Scat (Shiloh Fernandez) hatches a million-dollar idea. But, in order to see it through, he has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart.

Directed by Aram Rappaport and featuring "Evil Dead" star Shiloh Fernandez, Amber Heard and Kellan Lutz, the film looks to posit itself as a sleek, winking satire on the advertising and business worlds. As the trailer shows, Fernandez plays Scat (yes, that’s his name), who brainstorms a soda beverage called Fukk Cola and bands together, both romantically and professionally, with 6 (Heard), the production manager at Coke. Yes, that’s her name as well, and speaking of promotional attempts aimed to please, the trailer doesn’t exactly sell the film’s charms. Amidst the rampant dolly whip-pans...

Young people doing bad things is a familiar trope in indie flicks, featuring in everything from "The Rules Of Attraction" to "Cruel Intentions" to "The Informers" and more. Amber Heard has already been down that path as the star of "The Informers," and once again it looks like she'll be in a film where everyone seems just a little bit crooked. Following the arguably amateur-ish trailer released last month, a few more pics from "Syrup" have landed online. Co-starring Shiloh Fernandez and Kellan Lutz, and directed by Aram Rappaport, the story follows Scat (Fernandez) who discovers the idea for a new soda beverage named Fukk Cola. "The fucking American Dream in a can," he says. He pitches it to 6 (yes, that's her name, and she's played by Heard), the production manager at Coke, who agrees that it has massive potential to make them rich. But Scat's roommate Sneaky Pete sees this opportunity for wealth and.

Featuring one of Hollywood’s hottest, but underutilized actresses, Amber Heard alongside Shiloh Fernandez, Syrup is based on the 1999 Max Barry’s comic novel of the same name.
A satirical comedy of marketing and consumerism is co-written and directed by Aram Rappaport (Innocent).
The story follows Scat (Fernandez) who discovers the idea for a new soda beverage named Fukk. He pitches it to ‘6’ (Heard), the production manager at Coke, who agrees that it has massive potential to make them rich. But Scat’s roommate Sneaky Pete (Kellan Lutz) sees this opportunity to climb the corporate ladder, and steals the idea.
While Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow all make appearances in the book, something tells us this indie didn’t manage to get them.
The film also stars Brittany Snow.
No release date or distributor yet.

Amber Heard and movies based on cult novels don't seem to fit so well together. "The Informers," based on Bret Easton Ellis' book, was largely ignored, while "The Rum Diary" didn't manage to bring much life to Hunter S. Thompson's work. And now comes "Syrup," which brings Max Barry's novel to the big screen, and this trailer suggests that Heard might be going 0-3. Co-starring Shiloh Fernandez and Kellan Lutz, and directed by Aram Rappaport, the story follows Scat (Fernandez) who discovers the idea for a new soda beverage named, uh, Fukk Cola. He pitches it to 6 (yes, that's her name, and she's played by Heard), the production manager at Coke, who agrees that it has massive potential to make them rich. But Scat's roommate Sneaky Pete sees this opportunity for wealth and corporate ascension, and steals the idea and takes it the bigwigs himself. In case...

Kellan Lutz (photo), best known for playing Emmett Cullen in the Twilight movies, and Resident Evil actress Spencer Locke, will star in the performance-capture 3D movie Tarzan, adapted from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tale, and to be directed by Animals United’s producers / directors Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe. Needless to say, Lutz will bring Tarzan back to life, while Locke will play Jane. The screenplay was written by Klooss, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs‘ Yoni Brenner and Jessica Postigo, whose sole listed credit on the IMDb is Harald Zwart’s The Mortal Instruments, currently in pre-production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it updates Burroughs’ story by having Tarzan’s parents killed in a plane crash, the CEO of Greystoke Energies as the film’s chief villain, and Jane as an environmentally conscious heroine. Come to think of it, the first "update" isn’t something really new: Boy’s...

Air Collision, the best action film ever directed by a woman (for The Asylum), has a great ensemble cast and comes from a really innovative company; The Asylum, like Roger Corman’s various studios, is game to give a woman a chance to direct a genre film as well as to cast all ethnicities and both sexes for all kinds of roles. In short, I love The Asylum.
Director Liz Adams had one award-winning short film under her belt (Side Effect) when she went in for an interview at The Asylum. She was originally asked to write the fast-paced script for the then-unnamed action movie, but was offered the chance to submit herself as the director as well. “I threw my hat into the ring to direct and they gave me a shot,” she says. This is not unlike the shot given to filmmakers like Katt Shea by Corman; when...

Amber Heard Rolls to Motor City
Amber Heard has the looks and the talent, but her luck is floating around somewhere in the sewers. 2011 might not have been her year but 2012 might be off to a good start as she grabs a role in Albert Hughes’ Motor City.
Films like Pineapple Express and Zombieland show that Lady Luck can be kind to Heard but Luck has been a witch to the actress lately. Just this year, Heard appeared in Drive Angry 3D, The Ward, and The Rum Diary, and all three films bombed at the box office. I can understand the first two, but The Rum Diary? When’s the last time a Johnny Depp flick tanked? To add insult to injury, Heard hooked up with NBC’s The Playboy Club, which has already been yanked off the air.
Now, Deadline brings word that the actress is heading back to...

Amber Heard has been on the rise recently with roles in the popular comedies Pineapple Express and Zombieland, as well as a starring role in last year’s Drive Angry 3D and now a substantial role in the Johnny Depp starrer The Rum Diary. Consequently, you would assume she’s working on many films due to popular demand, but up until now she’s only had Aram Rappaport‘s Syrup on the horizon.
Now, however, Deadline is reporting that she will take the female lead role in Albert Hughes‘ Motor City (not to be confused with his brother Allen Hughes‘ upcoming Broken City), a revenge tale in which a recently released convict hunts down the people who framed him.
Sounds like pretty formulaic stuff, but it will be interesting to see what Albert Hughes does with his first feature film that is not co-directed with his brother Allen (who is...

Also spotted on the set is Lutz's co-star Amber Heard. The "Drive Angry" hottie, who was nominated for Best Scared-As-s**t Performance at 2010 MTV Movie Awards for her role in "Zombieland", dolls up herself with stand-out red lipstick and white dress, which is topped with bright red coat.
Based on Max Berry's novel, "Syrup" revolves around Scat, a young marketing graduate who sells his three-million idea to a soda company. Problems come when he finds out that his roommate has unfairly claimed the copyright. So, he moves in with his friends while trying to manage summer marketing campaign for the company.

Everything's set to go for "Syrup," which will be author Max Barry's first big screen production of his debut novel. The very favorably-reviewed book will be directed by Aram Rappaport (upcoming "Summer Song" starring "Spy Kids" Alex Vega) and be lead by Shiloh Fernandez from the abhorrent "Red Riding Hood" (and the relatively interesting "Skateland") and Amber Heard from the anticipated, but seemingly long-delayed Hunter S. Thompson flick "The Rum Diary." Although the talent is rather unknown, the source material seems to be an insane delight: Marketing grad Scat (Fernandez) discovers the idea for a new soda beverage, effectively named…...

There's a reason this article is illustrated with a ten-year old image of Nicole Kidman in The Others: she's not quite a stranger to making low-budget chillers, and now she seems to be tapped for a new one. Saw and Insidious director James Wan is putting together a movie called Spectre, and a throwaway mention in a Variety [1] report on Cannes sales mentions that Nicole Kidman is in talks to star. We don't know what the film is, but knowing James Wan's general M.O. I'll let you guess the basics. Nicole Kidman already has one thriller in the can for this year (Joel Schumacher's Trespass, with Nic Cage) and may be Park Chan-Wook's Stoker and/or Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful. But I'll admit: fond memories of The Others make me hope this comes together. After the break. Mark Strong gets ready to punch,...

From Robert Altman.s The Player to George Huang.s Swimming With Sharks, Hollywood has celebrated juicy, malicious, tell-all dark comedies that tear industries down from within. Now a new indie drama takes aim at the corporate intrigue fueling the soda business, and two young leads have signed on for the sticky sweet battle. Amber Heard (of Drive Angry 3D) and Shiloh Fernandez (of Red Riding Hood have signed on for Aram Rappaport.s Syrup, Variety reports. The dark dramedy will be adapted from Australian author Max Barry.s satirical novel about backstabbing twentysomethings who will do whatever it takes to climb the ranks of the soda industry. The book seemed ripe for Hollywood exploitation. Barry didn.t shy away from including celebrity cameos in his story, with entrepreneur character Scat bumping into the likes of Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow on his rise to the top. Now we.ll...

There was one good thing in Red Riding Hood: Shiloh Fernandez. The actor will now topline the indie Syrup with Amber Heard (Zombieland), a story about competitive 20somethings working their way up the corporate ladder in the soda beverage industry.
It's being adapted from Maxx Barry's book of the same title which Barnes and Noble provides the synopsis: "When Scat comes up with the idea for the hottest new soda ever, he's sure he'll retire the next rich, savvy marketing success story. But in the treacherous waters of corporate America there are no sure things--and suddenly Scat has to save not only his idea but his yet-to-be-realized career. With the help of the scarily beautiful and brainy 6, he sets out on a mission to reclaim the fame and fortune that, time and again, eludes him."
