Tom Cruise’s new film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is stuffed with spectacular stunts, but one in particular has grabbed the world’s attention: riding a motorbike off the top of a 1,240 metre-high crag, plummeting down its vertical, semi-cylindrical face, and opening his parachute, base-jump style, just before he hits the ground.
Cruise says its “far and away the most dangerous thing [he’d] ever attempted”, and in a video released by the film-makers, revealed he had trained for the stunt by making more than 500 skydives and 13,000 motocross jumps over an 80ft mound, as well as training for a year in base jumping (a specialist skill involving parachuting from fixed objects including radio masts and skyscrapers). A practice ramp was constructed in a quarry in Wallingford,...

More than a decade in the making, the film follows a groundbreaking clinical trial that peels back the headlines to show the sweat, passion and sacrifice behind every breakthrough cure. What follows is an intimate journey with the patients and scientists who put themselves on the line to be first.
Hepner scripted the project and produced alongside Jonathan Formica (Lost & Found) and Kristin Lesko (O.J.: Made in America), with diabetes org Beyond Type 1 exec producing alongside Amy Rapp (The Woman Who Wasn’t There), Marla Oringer, Greer Wylder and Thom Scher. Exclusive: Deadline has an exclusive clip from the feature doc Since I Been Down, which is set for release on VOD on May 24th.
The film from director Gilda Sheppard stakes us to Tacoma, Washington. Influenced by the national drug war frenzy and the fear-based culture of punishment in the 1980s and ’90s, Tacoma sacrificed its most vulnerable children to a life behind bars. These children, who are now adults, cannot be silenced. As we hear them tell their stories, bravely, unapologetically, we realize: This is the story of ‘Everytown USA’.
June Nho Ivers, Saman Maydani and Bonnie Benjamin-Phariss produced the doc, with Sheppard and David Menschel serving as executive producers. Our exclusive clip from the film can be found below.

Everyone has that one show they rewatch over and over in times of stress. Here’s why they are important.
“There is a difference between your favorite show and your comfort show. Sure, there are some overlaps (my list proves that) but it also depends on you and your mood. Throughout all of the pandemic, I’ve talked about watching shows I kept putting off and, to be honest, I did that for like … two shows. The rest of the time has been revisiting shows that I know will bring me joy.”

The onscreen exploits of stuntwomen, and their off-screen battles for fair and equal treatment, is explored in Stuntwomen: The Untold Hollywood Story, a new documentary from director April Wright for Shout! Studios that debuts September 22 on digital platforms.
Narrated by Fast & Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriquez and based on Mollie Gregory’s 2015 best-seller, the film chronicles the lives of women who perform the stunts in some of Hollywood’s biggest action sequences — from the early days of silent movies to today’s blockbusters. The producers are Stephanie Austin, Michael Gruskoff and Marion Rosenberg.
“These unheralded heroines are the generations of stuntwomen who risked their lives in front of the camera, while behind it they fought for equal rights with male stunt performers, battled sexism and harassment, sustained life-threatening injuries and returned to the fray after each battle,” the producing team said in a joint statement.

You always have to worry when movies are advertised as “x meets y”, even if that – sometimes – is actually the best way to describe a film, In the case of Intensive Care, its “John Wick meets Don’t Breathe” an interesting combination if there ever was one. But its also a combo that conjures up all sorts of exciting hype – hype that the film couldn’t possibly live up to right… Right?
Well, sort of.

You always have to worry when movies are advertised as “x meets y”, even if that – sometimes – is actually the best way to describe a film, In the case of Intensive Care, its “John Wick meets Don’t Breathe” an interesting combination if there ever was one. Seminal horror films sure do cast an imposing shadow, especially for others that try to bear similar fruit in its shade; usually what grows is withered and nothing more than a mere husk of what came before. And some films simply don’t give a horse’s patootie. Welcome to Jennifer (1978), the ultimate Mad Libs homage to Carrie (’76) that, while not in the same league, works as a fun (and somewhat observant) high school horror - with snakes. A whole lot of ‘em.
Released by Aip in May, Jennifer opened to mixed reviews at best and indifference from audiences who felt they’d already been there, DePalma’d that. They weren’t wrong of course; Jennifer gulps thirstily from Carrie’s water fountain, but adds a couple other prevalent genre staples of the ‘70s to arrive at something decidedly weird (and vicious) enough to set itself apart.

Not all comic-book movies have to be about superheroes… or heroes at all for that matter. Case in point: Accident Man. Originally debuting in a series of comic strips in the 90s UK comic Toxic!, Accident Man was created by Pat Mills and Tony Skinner – two legends of the UK comics scene who, beside this character, penned stories or Judge Dredd and ABC Warriors. In fact Mills is one of creators of 2000Ad, a British institution that has already seen success outside of the comics realm, with numerous video games based on characters within its pages and not one but two Judge Dredd movies!
For those not familiar with the Mills and Skinner creation, Mike Fallon is a hitman,...

The UK comics scene in the 80s was a mixture of playground larks, smart alec troublesome kids, weekly toy advertisements, immaculate footballers and wartime nostalgia. It was boom time for the Beanos, Dandys and many more Saturday morning doormat slappers. But there was a change coming, and spurred on by the noxious odour of Viz and the dystopian adult themes of 2000Ad a new breed of comics came of age in the final decade of the twentieth century.
These new comics catered for kids who had grown up with Dennis the Menace and were ready for something a bit more mature. 1991 was the fateful year, when the Fleetway backed Crisis was joined by 2000Ad man Kevin Mills teaming up with Apocalypse Ltd to bring Toxic! to newspaper shops across the UK. Though these comics didn’t last as long as those whose pages they sat alongside they were potent enough...

As you’re no doubt well aware, comic book movies are all the rage these days. While we still get the odd dud, the genre continues going from strength to strength and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is at the forefront of that right now.
However, while we all know who characters like Captain America, Spider-Man, and The Hulk are from our childhoods, there are a lot of comic books out there you probably haven’t heard of. The question is, do you know which of your favourites movies are based on them?

However when her sister Kate comes to her and begs her to help repay a massive debt, Becca must re-enter the world of illegal underground fighting and resume her fight career as “Bex the Beast”. We have always had questions about who would win in fights. A few years back we even had a web-series called Geektyrant Vs where we would argue about specific combatants doing battle and who would win. One question we never got to, however, was who would win between Elektra and Black Widow. Both incredibly well trained in what they do, the fight would have to be something spectacular. And it is!
Someone posed the same question to Lauren Mary Kim who is the stunt double for Elektra in The Defenders series. Well, instead of just talking the talk, she got together with Black Widow's stunt double from Captain America: Winter Solider, Amy Johnston, and staged an amazing choreographed fight scene with the help of famous stunt choreographer Tsuyoshi Abe.
This looks so much better than many fight scenes that we've seen in films because they don't have to hide...

Ever since Ronda Rousey stepped into the Octogan and took the world by storm, Female Mma has gone to a whole new level. Everyone from Ufc to Hollywood is trying to cash in on this new wave of female athletes. Female Fight Squad is the latest attempt from Hollywood to capitalize on the swelling popularity of Women's Mma. Starring martial artist, and stunt performer, Amy Johnston as the main lead, Rebecca, in a prototypical fight movie. A retired fighter must get back into the ring to save a loved one from a debt they owe. As any good throwback fighting movie it is only natural to cast an actor from the 80's or 90's. Dolph Lundgren is that actor who stars in this movie, and doesn't overshadow the story at all.
The plot of the movie is nothing we haven't already seen from any Mma/fighting movie. A former fighter,...

Chris Nahon’s action film effectively lives up to its title. It features sexy ladies fighting in bloody fashion, and on its own limited terms provides the sort of violent entertainment geared to fans who enjoy watching movies like, well, Lady Bloodfight. Fans of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s 1988 cult classic Bloodsport, which this film closely resembles, will best appreciate this distaff version starring ace stuntwoman Amy Johnston, who possesses the gorgeous looks and superb physicality to carry the vehicle.

"Where did you learn to fight like that?" Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer for an indie called Lady Bloodfight, about a woman who trains to fight in an underground martial arts tournament in Asia. This kinda, sorta seems like an all-women version of Jcvd's Bloodsport, but with its own modern cinematic quirks. Amy Johnston plays a woman named Jane who is recruited by Shu, a Wudang champion played by Muriel Hofmann, to participate in the tournament. The full cast includes Jenny Wu, Kathy Wu, Mayling Ng, Jet Tranter, Sunny Coelst, Rosemary Vandebrouck, Lisa Cheng, Chalinene Bassinah, and Lauren Rhoden. This looks both extremely cheesy and extremely badass, I'm definitely intrigued, but also worried it's going to be straight-to-dvd quality. We'll have to see ourselves. Take a look. Hoping to learn the skills that will help her get back what was robbed from her,...

Cbm recently had the pleasure of interviewing Amy Johnston, the voice of Maxima in Machinima and Hasbro's Transformers: Combiner Wars animated series which is currently streaming on go90. In our chat, we touched on her performance as Maxima, whether there's more seasons of Combiner Wars coming down the line and also discussed some of her current and past projects. While Johnston does a bang-up job providing voice acting for Maxima in Combiner Wars, her day-to-day occupation is kicking ass as a stunt actor and motion capture performer. She's a frequent collaborator with Bat in the Sun and played Harley Quinn in the Super Power Beat Down episode that featured Joker & Harley vs Deadpool & Domino. She also had a role in the underrated 2013 underground-fighting thriller, Raze which starred Zoë Bell and Rachel Nichols. She also has a presence in anime fandom, as Dragon Ball fans should recognize Amy as the face...

The Autobots and Decepticons have disbanded and returned to Cybertron. With the days of Optimus Prime and Megatron over, Cybertron is now ruled by a triumvirate.
