"A personal look at the most important illustrator of the last 100 years." Well I'm sold on the tagline alone, but the poster that it comes from is quite odd, to say the least. An official poster has debuted on Beyond the Marquee (via IMPAwards) for the documentary Drew: The Man Behind the Poster, about legendary poster artist Drew Struzan. The poster is not Struzan art, but instead is a photo of Struzan focused on his eye, with a corner turned out. I like the concept they're going for, but something just seems awkward, maybe I'm just thinking of seeing Struzan's style so much. That said, I am very excited to watch this documentary. This poster "created by Xl Brand Laboratories and photographed by Frank W.Ockenfels 3." Your thoughts? Drew: The Man Behind the Poster is directed by up-and-coming American filmmaker Erik Sharkey, of a few shorts previously. Sharkey along with...

A couple of months ago we reported that the Drew Struzan documentary, Drew: The Man Behind The Poster, needed some funds to help finish post production. Thanks to your efforts, director Erik P. Sharkey has finished the film, and even held a panel this past weekend at Comic-Con. Now we have a brand new trailer for the doc that is finally on its way to release.
If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, or own any blu-ray or DVD worth owning, you know Struzan's work. His ability to make a new movie feel instantly nostalgic is what made him the go-to-guy for Hollywood. Too bad we're living in an age quickly being taken over by bad photoshop.
In this new trailer, we get even more insight into the techniques Struzan uses to bring those qualities to the canvas, and his impact on cinema. The doc includes interviews with George Lucas,...

You may not know his name but if you grew up in the 80s and 90s or are a fan of movie posters you know the work of Drew Struzan and a new documentary entitled Drew: The Man Behind the Poster aims to spread the good word on this artist.
His artwork has become synonymous with some of the most enduring classics of popular cinema and as you’ll see from the new trailer, released a few days ago at Comic-Con, actors and filmmakers are happy to push this artist to the spotlight.
Certainly his illustrations are among the most iconic pieces of movie marketing and this new documentary aims to reveal the man as well as offer us the opportunity to see him at work. Filmmakers Greg Boas, Charles Ricciardi and Erik P. Sharkey have assembled a pretty incredible lineup of interviewees to discuss the artist, with Michael J. Fox,...

Way back in August of 2010, we called your attention to a documentary called Drew: The Man Behind the Poster which is about the legendary Drew Struzan, the iconic poster artist we all know and love. Erik Sharkey along with Greg Boas and Charles Ricciardi are the filmmaking team behind the doc that features interviews with Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and so many more. This past May the production was looking for money on Kickstarter to help with post-production costs, and that goal was met. Then last week at Comic-Con a new trailer was unveiled, which you can watch below! Here's the new trailer for Erik Sharkey's Drew: The Man Behind the Poster from YouTube: Drew: The Man Behind the Poster is directed by up-and-coming American filmmaker Erik Sharkey, of a few shorts previously. Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Comic-Con Sundays are typically light on horror, and this year is no exception although once again our favorite panel, "Supernatural", is heading to Hall H. Here are the genre highlights as well as info on the 36th annual Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive.
One thing we can't stress enough is to keep checking the Sdcc website for updates as nothing's set in stone until the event actually starts happening.
10:00-11:00 Emily the Strange— Be a part of the Emily the Strange panel experience, where you have the chance to prove your knowledge of Strange and win prizes, learn what's new in Emily's oddball universe (including a sneak peek at the new Emily and the Strangers comic book series), and Q&A with Emily's creator Rob Reger, artist Buzz Parker, and writer Jessica Gruner. Did we mention you will get some cool stuff just for showing up and being Strange?...

Over the last year or so we've been reporting on a new documentary based around legendary poster artist Drew Struzan called Drew: The Man Behind The Poster. It looks like it will be a great documentary especially for those of you like myself who really enjoy the art of movie posters. The doc includes interviews with George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Guillermo Del Toro, Steven Spielberg and many more.
We recently received an e-mail in behalf of the film's director Erik P. Sharkey saying that the film has been completely shot and edited. But he needs a little help completing it. In the middle of the sound mixing phase they ran out of money. Up until this point the movie has been completely self financed, now they are looking for an additional $8,000 to complete and polish up the movie so it can fianlly get released.

If you ever hung a movie poster on your wall, there's a reasonable chance that it was by Drew Struzan. One of the more modest panels at Comic Con was for a documentary about the artist, and an extended trailer for Drew: The Man Behind the Poster is now online.Struzan, who George Lucas calls "the only collectible artist since World War 2" (eat that, Charles Saatchi) has painted over 150 movie posters,* including the Back to the Future trilogy, John Carpenter's The Thing, First Blood, the Muppets, Et, The Goonies, Harry Potter, Blade Runner, and of course, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Plus, there are the game boxes (Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis) and the book covers (Shadows of the Empire, the Indiana Jones spin-offs)... Struzan must be able to draw Harrison Ford from memory with his eyes closed by now.The documentary has been put together by Erik Sharkey,...

For those of you that love the art of movie posters like I do, here's a documentary that looks like a must see film! The film is about illustrator Drew Struzan, who created some of the greatest and most iconic movie posters ever created. The posters this man created are forever burned into our memory, especially if you grew up in the 1980’s or 90’s. I own several of the movie posters that Struzan created in his career. Some of his most popular works include Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Goonies and Star Wars.
The documentary includes exclusive interviews with George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg and many other filmmakers, artists and critics.
The journey spans Drew's early career in commercial and album cover art through his recent retirement as one of the most recognizable and influential movie poster artists of all time.

Okay, this is awesome. I feel like I've been saying that a lot recently, but this time I really mean it. SlashFilm found an official trailer on StarWars.com for a documentary called Drew: The Man Behind the Poster about, as you've guessed, the legendary Drew Struzan, the iconic poster artist we all know and love. I'll be honest - I didn't even know this was being made. A documentary about Struzan? Awesome. I knew there was a book coming soon, but that is all I'd heard about. This looks great and features interviews with Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and so many more great movie people. Watch the trailer below!
